Alexis Wong – Texas Nomination & Photography by Allen David Photography Issue 51 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Alexis Wong is a junior in High School and is proud to be of mixed races. Currently, Alexis is highly involved with theatre; performing as a theatre technician and as an actress. Other hobbies include learning about other cultures, cars, video games, art, and of course MODELING!! After high school, Alexis plans to attend college and pursue a career in law enforcement with the FBI or CIA. Never taking no for an answer, rising to every challenge and taking on even the toughest assignments, that's what makes her an Inspiring Teen!
What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover? I am currently taking three AP classes. I am the Junior Acting VP for my high school’s thespian troupe. I just took on the position of Assistant student director for our upcoming production of Millie. In addition, I am also a member of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honors society. You know what they say: “Be cool, stay in school!”
That's a lot of responsibility! Which is your favorite AP Class vs which one do you spend the most time studying for? Thanks! This is a tough question to answer...hopefully my teachers don't hold it against me. All of the classes require a lot of time to study, but AP Bio is the most time-consuming because of the memorization in addition to the concepts. My favorite class is by far AP Chemistry. My teacher is very entertaining and I love the subject. AP Stats is in between the two.
What does your job entail as Junior Acting VP of your thespian troupe? I help create and organize events for our theater group to sponsor at school. These have included our first ever Back to School Theater Camp, Karaoke night, and Halloween movie night. All of this is so that other students can have the opportunity to participate in fun activities and step outside of their comfort zone if they dare, and perhaps try a theater class in the future.
As student director, what do you feel will be the hardest part of your role? Based on past productions, Tech week is very chaotic and my directors have always seemed the most stressed during that time. I expect during that week I will find out what will be the hardest part of my role.
What has been your favorite production to participate in and why? This is easy! Nevermore was my favorite production to participate in for multiple reasons. It was a small cast for our 2021 UIL competition. I love competition, and so does our theater group. We became like a family during a time that "normal" life seemed so far out of reach. We had fun and still have fun together.
What do you do in Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor's Society and what is one of your favorite accomplishments? Since I am a new member of Mu Alpha Theta I will be able to start coaching middle school Math teams in the Spring semester. Always up to a challenge, this sounds fun and I will fit volunteer time into my schedule. My favorite accomplishment actually seems odd but relates to Math. I was accepted into the TAMS program at UNT Denton, however, I decided to decline because I realized that my passion is to be in theater, while still doing my best in my academics.
Tell us more about modeling for Allen David Photography. I began in May so I am new to modeling. Of the three shoots I have been in, I cannot pick a favorite because I think they are all great! We are on a set schedule; it is go, go, go! David knows exactly where he wants us to be and at what specific time to get those perfect shots.
If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why? I am a full-believer that students should get involved with at least one extra-curricular activity. I have been in sports, music, and obviously my biggest passion – theater! Each and every activity has introduced me to new groups of friends and made me more comfortable when starting new schools. I think being involved and having those relationships has helped me become worthy of the Inspiring Teens nomination.
