Elizabeth Gaus-Schmidt – Texas
Nomination & Photography by Silver Image Photography
Issue 80 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Elizabeth Gaus-Schmidt is an outstanding student who consistently demonstrates a strong commitment to academic excellence. Her grades reflect her determination and diligence in mastering any challenge. In addition to her excellent grades, Elizabeth has shown remarkable leadership skills through her involvement in various extracurricular activities. Including such activities as serving as an FFA officer for four years, playing in the school orchestra and mariachi band. In addition, she finds time to volunteer, raise animals and enjoy time with her family. Elizabeth always goes above and beyond to make a positive impact on the people she's around.
Photography by Silver Image Photography

Tell us about your academic excellence and why you value it.
Academics have always been immensely important to me because it is the key to my future success. The career I want to pursue in the veterinary field is extremely competitive, so having a strong background in academics will be necessary to advance me further in achieving my goals.

What was your favorite class this year and what was the most interesting thing you learned?
My favorite class this past year was my college introductory biology class. Being related to my interest in animal science, I walked into this class the first day already excited to learn. But having the opportunity to expand my knowledge not just in the area of animal science, but also in microbiology, botany, and the general order of life, combined with the complementary lessons it provided with my veterinary and statistics classes made this class a truly immersive and enjoyable experience.

What were your roles and responsibilities as an FFA officer?
After serving as an FFA officer over the past four years on the chapter, district, and area level, I had many roles and tasks that I was responsible for. One of the primary tasks that I faced repeatedly was planning engaging and constructive events forthe various levels of which I was an officer for. It was always our goal to provide opportunities for members to grow in their career skills and leadership ability, so much of what we did was focused around this. Another of my primary tasks was developing and leading leadership conferences and various conventions.

What did you learn about yourself in this position?
Serving in these positions have allowed me to find out so much more about myself. As a child, I had always been shy and introverted, but after choosing to envolve myself in these activities and embrace leadership roles, I have overcome my initial fear of stickinng out from the crowd. Instead, I now embrace the things that set me apart from others, knowing that this version of my self is the true me, the one that allows me to accomplish all that I have and will continue to in the future.

How would you describe your leadership style?
In the past year, I have learned to identify my leadership style as one of service. While it may not always serving alongside others to do good deeds in the community, I believe that one cannot truly be a leader unless they have in their heart that what they are doing is not for their own advancement or pleasure, but as an act of service to others.

What is your best leadership quality?
In my opinion, my best leadership quality is my ability to listen. While I do think this stems from my earlier shyness, a struggle that I had to move on from, I see no weakness in my ability to keep quiet. Often times, there are so many opinions and strongfeelings that people will have about something, that if no one is able to take a step back and listen to peoples’ needs, them there is simply a room full of people shouting. Instead, I believe that by staying quiet, I am providing the opportunity to make others heard.

What instrument do you play?
Over the years I have dabbled in playing quite a few different instruments, but the ones that I am best at and have played for the longest are guitar and violin. I first began playing instruments when I was seven and started taking guitar lessons. A few years later, I joined the junior orchestra program at my school and started learning violin, following in the footsteps of my older sister. I have been playing these two consistently since then, and recently began competing in mariachi contests when I started high school.

What favorite memory do you have with your band mates?
While my friends in my mariachi band and I have a lot of good times, some of the best memories I have are playing these tours we do to elementary and middle schools every year. While there are plenty of other times we get to perform for competitions or to raise money, the times where we play simply to spread joy to others are the best. By playing in the younger schools, we are able to bring the taste of mariachi music to those kids, many for the first time, ensuring that the future of the program and the music.

Where have you volunteered and what roles did you have?
Some of the ways that I commonly volunteer are helping maintain and harvest crops at my local community garden, preparing and delivering newspaper to a local no-kill animal shelter for the cats and dogs to have clean bedding, organizing donation drives to various entities across the state, and collecting items to support farmers in need after recent fires in the panhandle area.

Where do you spend the most amount of time volunteering and why?
I have volunteered in various ways in my town, throughout the state, and in locations across the nation, yet being able to support my local community always brings to me the deepest sense of satisfaction. One of my favorite places to volunteer is at my local community garden. There, we grow and harvest different fruit, vegetable, and herb products to donate to a local food bank so that our neighbors in need can have free and healthy meals to support them. Not only this, but having the opportunity to serve with other members of our community brings us closer together.

What animals have you raised and what is the most interesting thing about it?
In the past four years, I have raised over fifty livestock animals ranging from goats and sheep, to pigs, chickens and rabbits. What I would say the most interesting part about raising livestock is the skills and connections you make during the process of it. While there are career-based skills in animal husbandry and maintaining proper diets, there are also skills such as financial management, networking, and developing and maintaining an action plan. Further I think that the connections built with your advisors, peers, potential buyers, and industry professionals serve to build you into a better person.

What do you enjoy doing with your family?
My family and I share many common interests, so we spend a lot of time together in various activities. Since I was little, we would always make time to go camping and hiking, making sure to spend time in nature and refusing to allow the world to rush past us. Since then, we have taken to traveling even further around the world when the opportunity presents itself. My family has also been very supportive of me with all of my animals, taking time out of their day to join me at the barn.
What is a favorite family tradition you hope never ends?

One of my favorite family traditions that I hope will never end is our love of a good old-fashioned game night. While it’s very rarely a structured or scheduled event, my family loves to spend time together playing games, so we take every chance we get to do so. Whether it be a Friday night, Christmas with relatives, or even playing cards till deep into the night in our tent in the middle of the woods, I value every moment that my family has time to take a step back and just have fun.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I believe that I can serve as an inspiration to others due to my commitment to self-less service. Whether it be playing music for elderly individuals who are no longer capable of going out into the world, cleaning up community gardens to provide food for local food banks, or simply being there to help others when they are in a time of need, I believe that a life lived in service to others is one that should be considered as an inspiration for others to follow.

What else would you like to talk about?
Helping others has always been a goal of mine, and this last year I embraced this in a new way by volunteering at a local veterinary hospital. Over the course of the year, I had the opportunity to see people in their happiest moments to their worst days and help them through it all. As I graduate this year from high school and plan to pursue a higher education, my end goal will be to serve a small-town community as a veterinarian so I can continue to help people through the ups and downs of life.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
Among the many things that I am passionate about, I love helping others grow as a person and into their roles as leaders. One of the ways I have chosen to do this in the past is through agriculture and the opportunities it provides. The agriculture industry offers to individuals experiences that will allow for growth and personal development through various challenges and responsibilities. Over the course of four years, I have seen many people engage in these activities and, through encouragement and support, have emerged a completely new person and a servant-leader.

How did you find your photographer, Silver Image Photography? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
Cristie Reddehase with Silver Image Photography came to me highly recommended by friends and family alike. She has years of experience in producing high quality photos and a degree in photography further supporting her wonderful work. My entire experience with Cristie was positive, from the planning the session and the selection of photos and products at the end. Something that was very important to me with the amount of my time spent working with and raising animals is that Cristie was able to capture beautiful moments with the in the shoot, something that is not common to most photographers.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
More than likely, a day that has nothing on the schedule and no pressing tasks to worry about will find me outside. On a peaceful day by myself, a good book and the shade of a tree next to a small lake or river is all that I’d need to keep happy until the sun goes down. Otherwise, I could easily spend the day away with my friends and family, either riding our horses through the woods while having a good laugh, playing with my sheep and goats in the field, or simply enjoying ourselves out in nature.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
After this summer, I will be attending Texas Tech University majoring in Pre-Veterinary/Animal Science. Other than that, I don’t know! I spent a long time bouncing back andforth between the two different universities I wanted to go to, and while I have made my decision and have a plan for what I hope to be able to do, I’m a little nervous, but very excited to see that I have no idea what the future holds in store for me.

What is the hardest thing you have ever accomplished, and how did you do it?
One of the hardest things I have ever done was when the state FFA horse judging contest and advance to nationals. This is a task that took years of hard work, late night practices, and working with y tea to fight for the opportunity to achieve our goals, and in my senior year we were able to do just that.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
The best advice that I can give to someone who wants to be where I am today is to try everything. If I had not taken advantage of the opportunities presented to me, I wouldn’t be who I am now.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
My current plan of graduating with my bachelor’s degree within threes years will put me half way through veterinary school in five years from now.

What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination?
One of my favorite pastimes that was not in my nomination is to read and write. I’ve always loved to red a good book, and in recent years I have been encouraged to do some writing of my own.

Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
On eof my hidden talents that has actually been quite useful to me when preparing for exams in academics, my high school vet classes, and various competitions, is that I am able to memorize dates and facts very well.

3 Things on your bucket list
Three of the biggest things on my bucket list are to do a horseback safari in Africa, travel to Australia, and to own/manage a functioning goat and sheep farm.

Who do you find inspiring?
One of the people who has been most inspiring to me is my high school ag teacher, Mrs. Roos. In the four years that I;ve known her, she has set an example of selflessness and service to others for so many people to follow.

What about you inspires others/why do you think you are inspiring?
I think that other people are inspiring to us when they bring out a better part of ourselves with the way they influence us. In this way, I hope that with each person I met, I am having a positive impact and thus influence them in some way.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
In having this opportunity to share my story and experiences, I hope to be able to inspire others to pursue their dreams and become better versions of themselves, just as I did.

When Hudsyn is not dancing, she can be found studying or socializing. She is an honor roll student and always puts in the work to be the best she can be. She is also very passionate about animals and she aspires to be a veterinarian someday.
Photography by Mad Media

Tell us about your dance career.

I started dancing when I was about 3 years old. Since then it’s been about 11 years. I started only taking a simple combo class (jazz/ballet/tap) and I am now in 3 classes: Junior Company (jazz, tap, lyrical), combo (jazz/tap), and pointe class.

What do you love most about dance?
I love the performance side of dance. After a season of hard work and practicing, getting to dance on stage is the biggest reward.

What has dance taught you?
Dance has taught me discipline, teamwork, responsibility, creativity, and even how to deal with stress. My mom first enrolled me in dance when I was 3 years old hoping it would help me build confidence because I was extremely shy. I would definitely say it helped with that.

What is a typical day in the life of you as a dancer?
I always try to stay as active as I can and even on days I don’t have practice I'm still practicing. I also make sure I’m fueling my body and am eating 3 healthy meals and snacks each day.

What has your favorite recital been and why?
Probably this year because it was my first year dancing with the junior company girls. I loved all my dances and all the girls on my team. I had so much fun performing these dances and getting to show off my flexibility, energy, and grace.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
During the school year I participated in cheerleading. I quickly developed a leadership role and was a captain my 8th grade year. Being dedicated to this sport and learning how to work well with others, I was a role model for my teammates.

What are your roles and responsibilities as captain?
I was expected to lift up the team and constantly show good spirits. When a teammate was having issues I was responsible to help them learn whatever material they were confused about. I was also responsible to host activities for the team like our homecoming float decorating.

How would you describe your leadership style?
I try to set and example and be a role model for the girls on my team. I like to share tips and give advice to make the team stronger as well.

What is your best leadership quality?
My determination. I am always looking for ways to get better and succeed and I encourage that in others.

What is a memory with your cheer team you will never forget?
Probably during my 7th grade year at our state competition. In the middle of the routine my shoe fell off and I had to figure out a way to get it back on before the next stunt. I only managed to get it half way on and my bases were trying to get it back on for me in the set. The stunt still managed to hit but we still laugh about it to this day.

What else would you like to talk about?
Something else that is unique about me is that I am one of five children in my family. I have one older biological brother, one younger biological brother, one younger biological sister, and one younger adopted sister. Even though our ages are very spread out and we have a big family we are still very close. I take a lot of pride in being a sister and helping my siblings whenever I can. Fun fact, when my younger brother was 5 I taught him how to read before he started kindergarten.

What do you and your siblings like to do together?
I spend a lot of time with my little brother practicing baseball in the backyard. My little sisters love to be in my room so I’ll give them makeovers or let them watch TV on my bed and they love it.

What is a family tradition you hope never ends?
Every year since I was really young our family has taken a summer vacation to our cabin in Wisconsin. Clam Lake is our front yard and it’s very secluded there with only a few neighbors that all know each other. The lake is my favorite place to be and I look forward to going every year.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I have always been very passionate about animals. Our family has a total of 6 pets, 3 of which are mine. I love working with all of them and giving them my attention. Thanks to me my dog knows all sorts of fun tricks and I find joy in teaching her. I hope to one day turn this passion into my career. Being a veterinarian has been my dream for a long time.

Tell us about your animals and what kinds of tricks you've taught them.
We have a chicken and are currently trying to hatch more, a rabbit, a cat, a lizard, a hamster, and a dog. Our dog, Maisy, is an English Golden Retriever so she’s usually pretty smart. She knows how to sit, lie down, roll over, shake, high five, spin, beg, touch, and leave it.

How did you find your photographer, Mad Media?
What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?He is a local sports photographer and was willing to step out of his comfort zone to take some dance photos. He was very encouraging and excited during the photoshoot. He gave me the freedom to do whatever I wanted and it was an empowering experience.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
If I had no plans all day you could find me either in my room laying with my dog or outside with my family and probably eating something.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
High School cheer! I am very excited to work with more experienced cheerleaders and coaches. I’ve had a few practices already and I absolutely love it!

Hailey Bistricky – Georgia
Nomination & Photography by Beautiful Memories Photography By Aurora
Issue 80 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Hailey Bistricky is kind caring and those that know her love being around her. Hailey is an amazing friend and daughter. She is a straight A student and a member of her schools Beta club. Her hard work has paid off and she has received a full ride scholarship to Brevard University in North Carolina. She has a strong moral compass and is active in her church. Hailey is a joy to be around and is the definition of what an Inspiring Teen is.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I have spent my senior year of highschool fully dual enrolled, along with working full time, and being in several clubs. Managing all of this, while keeping my grades up and still making time to see my friends and family, has been one of the hardest tasks I’ve ever faced. However, I learned many valuable lessons from it that will benefit me in the future.

What else would you like to talk about?
When I go to college in the fall, I will be studying Exercise Science to eventually become a Physical Therapist. I chose this career because it is a way to be able to help people while also getting to know them. I’ve always been interested in the medical field, but I also wanted a career where I would get a chance to genuinely know my patients.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I am very passionate and could talk about mental health forever. The main reasons for this are I have seen many of my family members and friends struggle with mental health and I have struggled with my own mental health as well. I know how hard it can be to deal with first hand and there isn’t always an easy fix.

How did you find your photographer, Beautiful Memories Photography By Aurora? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
I found my photographer through instagram and because I was friends with her daughter! I have loved absolutely everything about my experience this year, from the pop-up photoshoots to our out of town trips. My favorite part about my experience was probably how well the pictures fit my personality and how personalized the sessions were.

Something I am passionate about is helping kids. I would like to study psychology and a few other things in college so I can get a job in the criminal justice system helping kids who are victims of crimes.

How did you find your photographer, Devine Dezines? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
I found my photographer through my parents. My father coached middle school baseball last year and he used Devine Dezines for the boys baseball pictures. I love Devine Dezines they are willing to do almost anything to make your pictures come out the way you want. For instance my pictures were taken in the middle of the woods and they aren't woods people but I am. I love the woods and nature and they came out in the middle of nowhere just to make my dream Senior pictures happen. I am forever grateful for them and the experience.

Tell us about your dance career.
I began dancing when I was about five years old and have been passionate about it ever since. Over the years, I trained in various styles, participated in numerous recitals, and even competed in dance competitions. Dance has been a significant part of my life, providing me with joy, discipline, and a creative outlet. Currently, I'm taking a break from dance. Preparing for college has taken up most of my time and energy, making it challenging to maintain the same level of commitment to dance as before. Although I'm not actively dancing right now, I still love it and hope to return to it in the future when my schedule allows.

What dances do you study, and which is your favorite? Why?
I study both Bollywood and Bharatanatyam. My favorite is Bharatanatyam because it is more structured and has a deeper meaning. Bharatanatyam connects me to my religion and enhances my spirituality. The intricate gestures, expressive storytelling, and disciplined techniques in Bharatanatyam offer a profound way to explore and express my cultural heritage and spiritual beliefs.

What do you wish non dancers knew about dancers/dancing?
I’ve been told many times in my life that dancing is not a sport, but dancing is just as laborious as any sport. Dancers undergo intense physical training, build strength and endurance, and practice for hours to perfect their technique. Dance requires not only physical prowess but also mental discipline, creativity, and emotional expression. It demands the same level of dedication, commitment, and hard work as any other athletic pursuit.

Tell us about your dance arangetram degree and what it took to get it.
For my arangetram, I had to dance for 2 hours straight in front of an audience, performing seven different songs, each with its own distinct meaning. The longest piece was 30 minutes long. I learned this entire set list over the span of two years. To be able to participate in this ceremony, I had to prove to my teacher that I was dedicated to this art form. This commitment wasn't just about my time; it also involved two years of my teacher's time and my parents' time. The preparation required rigorous practice, discipline, and a deep understanding of the cultural and spiritual significance of each dance. Completing my arangetram was a testament to my devotion and passion for Bharatanatyam.

What has dance taught you?
Dance has taught me discipline and commitment. The rigorous training and practice required to master different techniques and routines have instilled in me a strong sense of discipline. Committing to regular rehearsals and performances has shown me the value of dedication and perseverance. These lessons from dance have not only helped me grow as a dancer but have also positively influenced other areas of my life.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
Due to my hard work, I have been accepted into Nova Southeastern's BS/DO program. This program gives me early acceptance into their medical school.

What led you to want to go to medical school?
Honestly, I have always wanted to be a doctor. Every time someone asked me what I wanted to be when I was older, I would always respond with, “I’m gonna be a doctor!” and I would flash them the biggest smile. To this very day, I have never changed my answer. My unwavering passion for medicine has been a constant in my life, driving me to work hard and pursue my dream of helping others through a career in healthcare.

What are you hoping to do with your degree?
I hope to change at least a small portion of women’s healthcare. Right now, I am doing research on menstrual pads and women’s health, but I cannot wait to see what the future holds. My goal is to make a meaningful impact in this field and to be the cause of positive change. Through my work and dedication, I aspire to improve women's healthcare and contribute to advancements that can benefit many lives.

What else would you like to talk about?
Not only am I a dancer but I am also a singer and I am tied to the arts world in multiple ways.

What is your favorite genre of music to sing?
My favorite genre of music to sing is probably pop music. I enjoy its catchy melodies, upbeat rhythms, and the wide range of emotions it can convey. Singing pop music allows me to express myself and connect with a broad audience, making it an enjoyable and fulfilling experience.

Do you have a go to song you love to sing when someone asks you to sing for them? What is it?
Although my favorite genre to sing is pop, the song I sing when someone asks me to sing for them is "On My Own" from Les Misérables the musical. This song resonates with me because of its powerful emotions and beautiful melody, allowing me to showcase my vocal range and connect deeply with the lyrics.

If you could dance on any stage on earth, where would it be and why?
Dancing on the stage of the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, India, would be an incredibly meaningful experience. The temple's grandeur and spiritual significance make it a sacred space where dancers can connect deeply with their art and devotion. The large stage, surrounded by the temple's stunning architecture and immersed in the rich cultural heritage of India, would provide a profound setting for a dance performance. Dancing on this stage would feel like a divine offering, a way to express reverence and devotion through movement. It would be a powerful experience to feel the energy and presence of the gods and ancestors who are believed to bless the temple. Additionally, being part of the Meenakshi Thirukalyanam festival, with its vibrant atmosphere and celebration of tradition, would add to the richness of the experience.

What other ways are you tied to the arts world?
In addition to my involvement in dance, I'm also tied to the arts world through crafting and baking. In my free time, I enjoy crocheting and embroidery, which allow me to express my creativity through tactile and visual mediums. Crocheting and embroidery are not only artistic pursuits but also therapeutic activities that help me unwind and relax. Furthermore, I love baking and decorating sweet treats. Baking allows me to combine my passion for creativity with my love for delicious desserts. Whether it's decorating cakes, cookies, or cupcakes, I enjoy experimenting with different flavors, colors, and designs to create edible works of art. These artistic hobbies complement my dance practice, providing me with additional outlets for self-expression and creativity. Whether I'm dancing on stage or crafting in my free time, the arts play a significant role in enriching my life and allowing me to explore my passions.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I could talk about mythology forever because the first ever book series I read was about Greek mythology and since then I have completely fallen in love with everything about myths.

What is your favorite greek story - give us the short version of what it is and about.
My favorite Greek myth is about Eros and Psyche. The story of Eros and Psyche revolves around the mortal princess Psyche, whose beauty sparks the jealousy of Venus, the goddess of love. Venus orders her son Eros to make Psyche fall in love with a hideous creature, but Eros himself falls deeply in love with Psyche. Despite his affection, Eros keeps his identity hidden, causing Psyche to uncover it, leading to his departure. Psyche embarks on a quest to win back Eros's love, facing trials set by Venus. Through perseverance and the help of gods, Psyche proves her love and earns Eros's forgiveness, leading to their union and Psyche's transformation into a goddess. This myth explores themes of love, jealousy, and the transformative power of perseverance.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
If I had nothing to do and all day to do it, you would find me in the kitchen, baking up a storm! Whether it's whipping up batches of cookies, cakes, or pastries, baking is my passion and my favorite way to spend my time. There's something incredibly therapeutic and rewarding about mixing ingredients, watching them transform in the oven, and ultimately enjoying the delicious results. Plus, the aroma of freshly baked treats filling the house is simply irresistible. So, if you're looking for me, just follow the scent of something sweet and you'll find me happily baking away!

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
College is what's up next for me! I'm particularly excited because my college is right next to the beach, and I believe the sun and ocean will be incredibly beneficial. I'm looking forward to meeting new people, making new friends, and spending quality time with my roommates. This new chapter is full of opportunities for personal growth, academic achievements, and unforgettable experiences.

Criss Pierce

Picture

Criss Pierce – West Virginia
Nomination by Sarah Dillon
Photography by Autumn Branscome Photography
Issue 80 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Criss Pierce is one of the most skilled dancers I’ve ever seen. She has attended Princeton Dance Studio since age 4 and has dedicated her life to honing her skill. In 2022 she participated in Liberate Artist in NYC. Last summer she also participated in The Intensive in Toronto, then went on to win a scholarship for Art of Movement which she attended in Michigan in March. Recently, she ranked among the Top 3 competitors at District Fine Arts in Beckley, WV and will be competing at Nationals in Columbus in August shortly after attending Joffrey Ballet in NYC.

Tell us about your dance career.
My mom put me in my first dance class when I was 4 years old and I’ve loved it ever since and now I’m hoping to pursue a career in dance and become a professional choreographer

What styles of dance do you study, and which is your favorite? Why?
I do ballet, jazz, pointe, modern, hip-hop, contemporary, lyrical, tap, and musical theatre, and I have also done different folk dances during intensives. Hip-hop and contemporary are my favorites because I can express myself without having to speak.

What was it like participating in the Liberate Artists in NYC?
It was a very fun experience. During one week I got to dance with professional choreographers, learn new choreography, and do a performance at the end of the week. I also was chosen to be a Liberate Dance Captain.

What was your favorite memory of dancing at the Intensive in Toronto?
Dancing with professional choreographers.

What did you do to win a scholarship for Art of Movement in Michigan?
I participated in class for three days doing many classes of various styles and received a scholarship by the AOM ballet choreographer Michael Crawford.

What did you dance to to get Top 3 competitors at District Fine Arts in West Virginia?
I danced to Still Rolling Stones by Lauren Daigle and wore an old costume from one of my recitals. It was a lyrical style dance.

What are you doing to prepare for Nationals in Columbus?
Practicing my choreography to keep my memory fresh and to apply the critiques I was given during auditions.

What are you most excited for to attend Joffrey Ballet in NYC?
To be dancing in a big city filled with talented and experienced choreographers while learning new dances and growing as a dancer.

What do you wish nondancers knew about dancing?
The commitment and dedication it takes to become good at what you do. Dance is healing but many hours of dance a week can be very tiring it pays off when your performance looks good. It can be extremely competitive because of dance competitions and how everyone always wants to be the lead for things like classical ballet or even to be in the center of a hip-hop dance.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I have been dancing for 14 years and would love to continue my dance career after graduation. I’d love to be a choreographer and inspire others who love to dance.

What else would you like to talk about?
I am the oldest of three siblings and we have been homeschooled our entire life. My Sister is also a dancer and started at 2 years old after joining one of my dance classes. Dance is a huge part of my family and my Parents are very supportive and try to make my dreams possible.

I also started my own business called Sugar Coated several years ago to help raise money to pay for my dance. I ended up doing so well that I still continue to get orders today to help with any of my expenses and I really do enjoy it.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
Dance. Dance choreographers, music and all of the places I dream about dancing one day.

How did you find your photographer, Autumn Branscome Photography ? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
Autumn has been taking my photos since I was 11 years old and received my first pair of pointe shoes. We had so much fun doing the photo shoot. What I loved most is being able to capture such a special moment.

I would say I am passionate about movies. I love movies the way an actor/actress takes a role and embodies it. The way a movie can tell a story within just around two hours. Whether it’s going to the movies or picking one at home, I really enjoy watching them. The way it can bring people together just based on the fact that people would like the same movie.
