Kara Straub - Michigan
Nomination by Jessica Straub
Photography by Miame Jarrett Photography
Issue 94 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Kara Straub is inspiring because she is an ambassador for Morgan's Message, a non profit organization that amplifies stories, resources and expertise to confront student-athlete mental health. Kara presented this amazing program to her school board and because of her, this program will begin in her school, fall of 2025. Kara maintains a 4.0 GPA and is ranked top 5 in her class. Kara is a 4 year varsity basketball player. She has committed to Trine University in Indiana to play basketball and major in Biomedical Engineering and eventually become a pediatrician.

Photography by Miame Jarrett Photography

You presented Morgan’s Message to your school board—what did you share that moved them to launch the program for Fall 2025?
To move my school board to launch Morgan’s Message for Fall 2025 I shared a slide deck that detailed what Morgan’s Message is, why it was created, how the school board can be involved, and its numerous benefits to the community and the ambassadors involved.

What does success look like to you one year in?
To me, success one year in would include successful dedication games to spread outreach to not only my community, but others and being able to pass the thriving program down to someone else after I graduate.

As an ambassador, how do you plan to bring student-athlete mental health conversations from assemblies into everyday team culture and the locker room?
As an ambassador, I plan to bring student-athlete mental health conversations from assemblies into everyday team culture and the locker room by using the skills and resources I have gained from both my personal experiences and Morgan’s Message.

Balancing a 4.0 GPA with four years of varsity basketball is no small feat. Walk us through a “pressure week” playbook—how do you manage time, stress, and recovery?
Although I am very busy, I make sure to create balance in my schedule. I have a color coded calendar that helps me keep track of things I need to do like assignments, practices, and other plans. Managing stress is tricky, but I have found that making sure to use my time wisely and get as much done as possible when working helps relieve a lot of my stress.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
Not only am I an ambassador for Morgan’s Message, but I have other inspirational qualities as well. I am a leader both on and off the basketball court, always eager to help and encourage others. I am also a part of my school’s leadership program that is very involved in our community, from visiting our local retirement home to hosting Unified basketball games and even being a part of the Big Brother Big Sister program. I am also an official SAT tutor for Schoolhouse.world, and help others prepare for the SAT.

Your school leadership work ranges from retirement-home visits to Unified basketball and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Which experience shifted your perspective the most, and why?
Out of these wonderful opportunities and experiences my leadership class has given me, Unified basketball has shifted my perspective the most. Being given the opportunity to play alongside ? in the sport I love was an absolute blast. It truly shifted my perspective on the impact sports can have. Bringing people together and fostering a sense of community through a sport created a fun and meaningful atmosphere, showing that basketball is truly more than just a game.

Ten years from now, when a young athlete says you inspired them, what do you hope they point to: a game, a conversation, a program you built—or something else entirely?
If a young athlete says I inspired them I would hope they mention the type of teammate I am. I pride myself in my leadership and always hold myself to the highest standard. Through communication, leading by example, empathy, and always cheering my teammates on, I better not only my team, but also myself. As someone who has always been more on the quiet side I have used my leadership skills to help push me out of my shell.

What else would you like to talk about?
I want to mention my long-term aspirations. I have always dreamed of going to college and am very excited for that opportunity. Majoring in biomedical engineering is going to give me a great foundation of skills and knowledge in diverse subjects, thus giving me ample preparation for my ultimate goal of becoming a pediatrician.

You’re headed to Trine University to study Biomedical Engineering on the path to pediatrics. What drew you specifically to Trine—on and off the court?
I was drawn to Trine on and off the court because of their elite basketball and engineering. Trine Women’s Basketball is an elite program with a long lineage of teams competing at the national level. In addition, Trine’s engineering programs are top notch and include state of the art faculty and facilities. Furthermore, it is near home, keeping me close to family which was a big factor in picking a college. After stepping on campus Trine truly felt like home, welcoming coaches and a family atmosphere led me to the decision that it was truly the perfect place for me.

What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?
My ideal dream job is being a pediatrician. It combines my best aspects and what I love all into one career. I am empathetic, patient, creative, driven, and caring. These are all useful skills that will be needed to be a pediatrician. Also, I absolutely love helping others and being around children. Plus, I overall want to improve lives, from the health and wellness of the kids, to giving their parents peace of mind about their child being cared for by the best, and ultimately be a positive influence and role model.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I could talk about basketball forever. I have played as long as I can remember and it has always been a huge part of my life. Throughout my years I have dealt with my fair share of anxiety and lack of confidence due to expectations, pressure and recruiting. These struggles have had profound effects on me both on and off the court and have made me want to be a positive role model for others in the space of student-athlete mental health.

You’ve navigated anxiety and confidence dips around expectations and recruiting. What concrete strategies or routines helped you most, and how would you teach them to a younger athlete?
I’ve navigated my fair share of anxiety and confidence dips around expectations and recruiting, but if I had to go back through my process I would definitely tell myself to take things one step at a time. It is easy to get caught up in comparison with the rise of social media, but you have to remember that your journey is yours and yours only. Focusing on what you can control and prioritizing yourself and your mental health are what have helped me most. Limiting social media to setting aside “recruiting free” time are great ways to do so.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
My mom was in search of a local photographer who could take my senior pictures. While scrolling through facebook she noticed a post of another girl’s senior pictures that Miame Jarrett had taken.
Personally, my favorite part of working with Miame was that she was not only an amazing photographer, but also very encouraging. She, through conversation, was able to relieve my anxiety about being in front of a camera. As someone who is typically shy, Miami helped grow my confidence exponentially. Through this experience I was able to see myself in a way I never have before.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
I was nominated by my mom. She is truly my best friend, my rock, and someone I can always depend on. Although it seems nearly impossible to pick a single memory of ours out of the countless laughs and cries, my favorite memories have been our numerous car rides. From driving me to hundreds of basketball practices, to our “girls days”, even mundane things like grocery shopping, I will forever cherish every moment with her.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine, not only because I'm personally inspirational, but it would also provide a platform to talk about something I am very passionate about, student athlete mental health and the stigma surrounding it. I am an ambassador for Morgan’s Message, a non-profit organization that amplifies stories, resources and expertise to confront student-athlete mental health. Furthermore, magazines are more known for glitz and glam, but as a student-athlete I want to be a positive role model for younger girls and showcase that you can be athletic but also be a part of something amazing.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I win a scholarship, I will be putting the money towards college. I am planning on majoring in biomedical engineering with aspirations of becoming a pediatrician afterwards, so the money would be extremely helpful to use toward college expenses.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
I would like to thank my parents for always being there for me, believing in me, and supporting me in every way possible, I wouldn’t be who I am without them. Also, I would like to thank my grandparents for always giving me unconditional support. Furthermore, I would like to thank all of the coaches I have had for helping make me into the person I am today.

Cylei Holman

Cylei Holman – North Carolina
Nomination & Photography by Waugh 2 Waugh Photography
Issue 94 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Cylei is a dedicated student who leads with faith, compassion, and integrity. A lifelong cheerleader, she will complete four years of high school cheerleading, consistently supporting her teams. She actively volunteers in her church’s outreach ministries and serves as a source of emotional support for her younger sister with Asperger’s. Known for her strong moral character, Cylei is frequently praised by teachers and school leaders for her honesty and values. She finds joy in spending quality time with her family and exemplifies leadership both at school and in her community.

Photography by Waugh 2 Waugh Photography

What moment from four years of cheer best captures how you lead with heart—on the track or in the stands?
Sometimes I’m not fully present—mentally or emotionally—but knowing I have a role to play, cheering on my team, gives me purpose. Like Dora says in Finding Nemo, “Just keep swimming.” So I do. On the easy days and the hard ones, I smile and keep going. Because showing up, even when it’s tough, matters.

Dual enrollment + CNA classes is a big lift—what drew you to healthcare, and what kind of caregiver do you hope to be?
Watching my grandparents and mom care for my great grandma with Alzheimer’s deeply inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare. Their compassion and dedication showed me the impact of helping others in vulnerable moments. With several family members already in the medical field, their example continues to fuel my passion. Among all paths, becoming an ultrasound technician stands out to me—I’m drawn to the blend of technology and patient care, and the opportunity to make a real difference in early detection and diagnosis.

Tell us about a church outreach experience that changed how you see service or community.
Helping at a local food pantry and clothing closet with my family has opened my eyes to how truly blessed we are. Providing food and clothing to struggling families made me realize how many people go without basic necessities—even more so in third-world countries where such support systems don’t exist. It’s a humbling experience that has deepened my gratitude and strengthened my desire to serve others.

How has supporting your younger sister on the autism spectrum shaped your patience, empathy, or communication?
Supporting my sister with Asperger’s has changed how I see the world. Learning to understand her emotions and perspective has helped me grow more empathetic and patient. I’ve guided her away from uncomfortable situations, but also encouraged her to try new things—like becoming a cheerleader, something outside her comfort zone. Watching her thrive has shown me the power of gentle support and the importance of seeing beyond my own viewpoint.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
In my junior year, I won the Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest for the Rendezvous Mountain Chapter, writing about Revolutionary War patriot Nancy Hart. I was honored by the Wilkes County Board of Education. I’ve been a Beta Club member and was named Student of the Month in May 2025. As a senior, I’m dual-enrolled at the local community college, working toward graduating with both my high school diploma and CNA certification.

You won the DAR essay on Nancy Hart—what about her story felt personal to you, and how does it influence your own courage?
Learning about Nancy Hart has taught me that gender should never limit anyone’s potential. Everyone deserves the chance to pursue what they love, regardless of stereotypes. Women have often been underestimated, seen as too weak or incapable—but Nancy Hart shattered that belief. Her bravery and strength inspire me to challenge bias and believe in myself. She proved that courage knows no gender.

Beta Club, Student of the Month, and cheer—what’s your best time-management hack when everything hits at once?
Honestly, I just breathe and take one project at a time. As my mom’s coworker used to say, “The ocean waves still reach the sand.” No matter how overwhelming things feel in the moment, I remind myself: breathe. Life keeps moving. The tide always returns. A new day is coming, and with it, a fresh chance to begin again.

If you could launch one new school or community initiative this year, what would it be and who would it help first?
I want to help refugees arriving in America get on their feet. Providing essentials, guidance, and reliable information can ease their transition and make them feel welcome. Whether it's helping with housing, jobs, language, or daily tasks, I believe offering support is a powerful way to show compassion and build community.

What else would you like to talk about?
I love vibing to music, spending time with friends, and hunting for trendy finds at Plato’s Closet. It’s all about good company, great tunes, and unique fashion.

Plato’s Closet treasure hunt: what’s your best find, and what does it say about your personal style?
My biggest treasure find has been scoring Lululemon pieces and Air Force 1s—stylish, high-end looks without the high-end price. I love the thrill of searching through clothing racks and finding outfits that reflect my style but being budget-savvy.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
Tate McRae is my favorite artist, and I’m beyond excited to see her live for the first time this October. I’ve been counting down the days, and it still feels unreal! Her music is my daily soundtrack—you’ll often catch me singing her lyrics under my breath.

Favorite Tate McRae lyric—and how does it motivate you before a game, exam, or big day?
In Tate McRae’s song Think Later, the line “live now, think later” encourages me to stay present, embrace the moment, and appreciate my surroundings. It reminds me not to dwell on negativity or overthink what’s out of my control. Instead, I choose to focus on the positive, live freely, and find joy in the now. This mindset helps me stay grounded and optimistic, even when life feels uncertain

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
Waugh2Waugh Photography instantly impressed me after hearing rave reviews from past cheerleaders. My mom and I were blown away by their photos, and I knew I had to be a Senior Ambassador. They capture my style and personality perfectly, and every photo feels magical. Working with them is an absolute joy!

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
Misty and Scott are creative photographers who makes me feel at ease in front of the camera. Misty somehow always captures my clumsy moments—especially in heels—and laughs at my many expressions. Scott has learned I’m not the most graceful, but together they keep me smiling. I truly enjoy working with them.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I'd be honored to be featured in Inspiring Teens Magazine to share my personality and the mission behind Waugh2Waugh. It’s a chance to let others see the real me—my passion, my purpose, and my faith. I hope to inspire others to embrace their uniqueness and walk boldly in their calling.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I were to win a scholarship, I would use it to help pay for my education and pursue my goal of becoming an ultrasound technician. This support would ease financial stress and allow me to focus fully on my studies, gaining the skills needed to provide quality care and make a difference in patients’ lives.

What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?
If I were offered a job today, I’d be absolutely thrilled to become an ultrasound tech at an OB-GYN clinic. Witnessing the miracle of life growing inside a woman’s body—a creation of God—is truly magical. It’s a role that blends science, compassion, and awe, and I can’t imagine a more meaningful way to serve others.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
I'm grateful to God for blessing me with such an incredible family. Their support fuels my goals and dreams, constantly encouraging me to reach higher. Alongside them, my friends and meaningful relationships have shaped who I am—teaching me to value myself and embrace self-love. I wouldn't be the person I am today without them.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
Relaxing in my room watching Grey’s Anatomy is a rare treat, since my busy schedule with school, sports, and loved ones leaves little time to unwind.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
Keep your focus on your goals and stay on your path.

Mia Andrade – Texas
Nomination & Photography by Berlinda Andrade
Issue 93 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Mia Andrade is my daughter and there are many reasons why she’s inspiring. She’s currently the Student council president at her high school, currently ranked first in her senior class, Vice president for NHS and part of the school choir and debate. She recently won a gold State medal for her choir solo and placed 5th in debate at Regionals. Mia is also very involved in her church at Our Lady of Grace. She not only inspires me, but also her younger sister Lexi.

Photography by Berlinda Andrade
What has been your favorite initiative or event to lead as Student Council President, and why?
My favorite event to lead as Student Council President is Teacher Convocation. My school does Convocation at the beginning of every school year in order to get teachers excited about the upcoming school year as well as share new information and ideas. I love this event so much as President because my position allows me to help organize volunteer opportunities for my Student Council while also getting to participate myself.

How do you balance academic excellence with your leadership roles in school and extracurriculars?
The ways I am able to maintain success in my leadership roles and academic career are time management, accountability, and communication. If I have an event coming up for an extracurricular that will require me to leave school, I make sure to get a day ahead on my work and speak with my teacher to communicate my absence. Sometimes it can be hard, pushing myself to thrive in all areas of my life constantly, but I know that at the end of the day, I will always succeed if I give 100% of the effort I am able to give.

What advice would you give to underclassmen interested in getting involved in student leadership?
Every year on incoming freshman prep days, I look like a crazy person inviting every single freshman in my sight to join our Student Council. I would encourage any and every underclassman who is interested in Student Council to join! There truly is something for everyone, whether they are interested in helping with our volunteer work or just looking to help paint posters for pep rallies, our arms are open to everyone! If you don’t join your freshman year, try it your sophomore year. No matter when you join, there are countless opportunities and new friendships waiting for you.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
One inspiring thing my nomination does not cover is the amount of service hours and dedication I have given to my community and school. With the help of my Student Council and peers, I have been able to help with multiple school related projects and even events that have happened within my community such as volunteering for our town’s Christmas festival tours and singing the National Anthem at many volleyball games.

What else would you like to talk about?
I would like to mention how active I am in encouraging school spirit. I do this not only by engaging in student council, but also by leading the student section at football games and hyping up the crowd to cheer. Being excited is never embarrassing!
Similarly, a message I would like to share is never be afraid to be yourself. There have been times where I felt like the world was against me. There will always be people in this world who want to kill your spirit and dim your light, but YOU are here for a reason. YOU are fun and unique and important. And if it ever feels like those things aren’t true, always remember that when you hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up.

Why is it important to you to promote school spirit, and what’s your favorite way to hype the crowd?
It is important to me to promote school spirit not only to provide encouragement for my peers who dedicate their valuable time to their sport, but also to make everyone feel involved at sporting events. My favorite way to hype up the crowd is through LOUD chants and songs!

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
Truly, I am passionate about many things, such as my academics, writing, inclusivity, and kindness. But one of my greatest interests and joys is musical theater. I adore the performing arts and love expressing myself through singing and acting. Similarly, I enjoy capturing joy in others by pursuing photography. I have taken pictures at many sporting events and have also done graduation photo shoots!

What role has music and theater played in shaping who you are today?
Music has not just helped shape me; it has been the foundation of my life. Making and sharing music is one of my favorite ways to express myself and my
emotions. Music is something that connects people and makes them feel seen, which is something I always strive to achieve. Fun fact: one of my biggest dreams is to be in a musical!

Can you describe what it felt like to win your gold state medal for choir?
Winning my state medal was definitely a full circle moment. I grew from a little girl mindlessly singing in a church choir, to a young woman full of knowledge of singing techniques. Needless to say, I was extremely proud of myself and thankful for all of my teachers who enhanced my knowledge of music beyond what I ever imagined!

What do you love most about photography, and how does it allow you to connect with others?
What I love most about photography is being able to catch the small moments that usually become forgotten memories. This allows me to connect with others by sharing their joy when I show them their photos, and it is such a special feeling. Although I’m sure photography will always just be my hobby, I am okay with that as long as I can bring others joy.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
I have countless memories with my mom. But one that always sticks out above the rest is a memory captured in a video; me and my mom singing Navidad. When I think of my mom, I think of her unwavering support for everything that I do, because she believes that I will succeed no matter what. She taught me that anything can be achieved with hard work.

How has your mom supported and inspired you throughout your journey?
My mom has supported me in immeasurable ways. She is the epitome of a fighter, a teacher, and a loving mother. My family is so dear to my heart, and everything my mom and dad have done to aid me in my success makes me eternally grateful for them.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
It would be a great honor for me to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine, and I would love for my name to bring attention to my school and the amazing growth of my Student Council, which has provided me many opportunities to become inspiring.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I win a scholarship, all of the money will go towards my college fund. My dream is to attend Stanford University and pursue pre-law with a minor in communications. I want to fight for those who feel they do not have a voice and make a difference in as many people’s lives as I can.

Why do you feel passionate about pursuing law, and what kind of impact do you hope to make in the world?
I feel extremely passionate about law because I believe everyone deserves a chance at justice and fairness. I hope to inspire others to share this belief, and I hope to restore faith in people who have felt that all hope was lost. I hope to help those who are afraid their life will be over due to misunderstandings or mistakes of our justice system.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
I would like to thank God for helping me get to the point I am today. My faith is my map that helps me navigate the journey of life, and my love for God is the gravity that pulls my moral compass to be so strong. Without Him, I would be nothing, and I trust that He will continue to lead me down the right path.

Katie Moyers

Katie Moyers – Ohio
Nomination & Photography by Kacie Bell Photography
Issue 93 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Katie’s got the vibe that makes any room brighter. She’s outgoing, kind, and a role model to the other students at the dance studio. Everyone knows she’s talented, but it’s the way she treats people that really sets her apart. Now she’s off to Cleveland State to keep chasing her love for theater and dance!
Photography by Kacie Bell Photography

Can you describe a performance moment that made you realize dance was your calling?
I performed my first solo at an outdoor showcase in the midst of Covid-19 to “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen. I realized that nothing could stop me from doing what I love, not even a global pandemic. The performance perfectly encapsulated this. When I heard the applause as I took my bow, I knew dance was my calling.

What excites you most about studying theater and dance in a big city like Cleveland?
With Playhouse Square being the second largest theater district in the nation, it provides so many tremendous opportunities. I can’t wait to be a part of the productions at CSU and make connections with other artists.

What do you hope people remember about you after seeing you perform?
I always do my best to let my love for dance shine through my performances. My hope is to share the joy dance brings me with others.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
Many people may think growing up in a small town is a disadvantage. However, rather than seeing it as a limitation, I saw it as an opportunity for growth. From experiences in my small town, I learned the importance of not being complacent and working hard to open doors that may not have seemed possible before. My dreams are not confined by my environment but by my determination. As I pursue a career in theatre and dance in a large city, I won’t forget my small town background.

What advice would you give to other teens from small towns with big dreams?
Never let your background or where you came from get in the way of pursuing your dreams.

What else would you like to talk about?
My family and friends mean the world to me. They have supported me through every step of my journey thus far and are genuinely my biggest fans. My dance teachers have also poured so much time, dedication, and love into helping me grow. I am beyond blessed to have them all in my life because they have collectively shaped me into who I am today. Aside from all these wonderful people, my faith is ultimately the foundation of my life. I hope to be a light and show the love of Jesus to those around me.

How has your faith helped guide you through your dance and theater journey?
My faith has shaped my outlook and approach to every situation, especially dance and theater. I was fortunate enough to dance at a studio where I did not have to sacrifice my faith and beliefs for my passion of the arts. It also provides me with unique opportunities. I was able to connect my faith and love for dance by volunteering at a dance camp through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Seeing the girls express themselves through dance and presenting the gospel to them was so special. It was one of the most liberating and rewarding of my life.

What does being “a light” for others look like in your everyday life?
I do my best to show love, kindness, and respect to others, and live a life that glorifies the Lord.

What’s one way you try to bring kindness or positivity into every room you're in?
It is always my goal to stay positive and find the bright side of every situation. By doing this, it can lift others up and encourage them. Going out of my way to be friendly to others and make sure they feel included is also extremely important to me.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I have been dancing since the age of four, and my love for the art has only grown with each passing year. I have spent countless hours at the studio training in a variety of styles and assisting classes. Within recent years, I became involved in my high school’s drama department where I choreographed our shows. My love for theatre and dance flourished during this time, which is why I have chosen to pursue a career in theatre and dance by studying at Cleveland State University. To say dance is my passion is honestly an understatement. Dance is my life.

Who in your dance life has had the biggest impact on your personal growth, and how?
My dance teacher, Miss Lisa, has been there for me since my very first dance class, and she continues to support me in and out of the studio. She has helped me grow in confidence both as a dancer and a person. In the fifteen years that I have known Miss Lisa, I have had the privilege to witness her dedication, creativity, and caring heart as a business owner, choreographer, and dance teacher. Because of this, she has become one of my greatest role models and most influential people in my life.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
Kacie Bell was actually my dance teacher’s former student, and her dad has been photographing my dance career from the very beginning. Over the years, Kacie joined her dad in taking our pictures at the studio and now has her own photography business. Kacie being a second generation photographer and a dancer herself, she’s able to bring so much experience and creativity to her work. She always captures my love for dance beautifully, and her attention to detail makes her photography truly flawless. Kacie’s energy during a shoot is contagious which makes it fun and natural to pose.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
One of my favorite memories with Kacie was when she choreographed a modern piece at my dance studio. I usually only get to see Kacie when she is behind the camera, so learning from her was so special. It is amazing to see the ways dance brings people together. Kacie has done so much for me over the years.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to inspire others to follow their passion, and what better way to do that than to share some of my story in Inspiring Teen Magazine! As my journey is unfolding, I hope I can offer the same kind of encouragement to others I received from my role models. We are the next generation, and we have to be bold in the pursuit of our dreams. “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams,” -Eleanor Roosevelt.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
Receiving a scholarship would be a tremendous help as I pursue a career in theatre and dance. I would use the scholarship for my education at Cleveland State University to further my training as a performer and choreographer. I know that pursuing this career will be fulfilling for me as an individual. However, monetary fulfillment is not always guaranteed, so any support I receive is greatly valued.

What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?
Having a job that allows me to perform or choreograph would be an absolute dream come true.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
As I mentioned earlier, my family and friends are my greatest supporters, but I would like to specifically thank my parents. I would not be where I am today without their love and support. They have sacrificed so much to see me happy and follow my passion. My parents always put my siblings and I before themselves. Their encouragement and belief in my abilities is my greatest inspiration.

What is the hardest thing you have ever accomplished, and how did you do it?
I graduated as a valedictorian from high school. Achieving this required dedication and hard work in order to maintain my grades

What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination?
I love to spend time with my friends and family, especially watching movies and going out to eat.

Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
I am actually very skilled at archery and used to be on a competitive team.

3 Things on your bucket list

How has your faith influenced the way you lead or support others in your community and school?
My Faith has taught me to be a leader because we are called to imitate Christ. Although we aren’t and never will be perfect, we are supposed to act like him. Being in Faith trying to be a leader supporting the community falls mostly into character on the days that it is the hardest. Whenever I am tired, worn out, left with no energy I have to still be the Christ like example I was made to be, which is how my faith influenced the way I have become a leader.

Can you share a specific moment when your desire to help others truly made an impact on someone’s life?
I had a friend that was in a very dark spot in life at that time. I had noticed it and I reached out to him. I was just talking to him trying to make sure he was okay and after a couple weeks he started slowly losing the battle again. After a couple months he eventually came back around worse than he was before and came asking me for advice on how to get out of the dark spot. After a sleepless night of talking to him and praying for him, he made a change for the better.

What advice would you give to someone who’s struggling to see their own value or purpose?
I would advise them to keep their head up and keep walking. Figure out what they want and put blinders on. Don’t listen to the people trying to come in from the sides. If they are struggling to find their purpose or value I would say that it might not come right away but you will find it. It may not be clear right now but every storm will lift and the sun will shine down again. You will be able to see the path of where to go. Until then, you have to keep walking through the storm.

How has being involved in FFA helped shape your future goals or career interests?
Being in FFA helped to shape me into who I am now. On the path of career goals though it has helped shape me on that road too. I used to have bad social anxiety and wasn't able to talk publicly without freaking out. FFA has helped teach me how to control the worry and become a better public speaker. Now when I think of my career, the publicity part isn't as scary.

Tell us about a time when you faced failure or disappointment—how did your mindset or faith help you get through it?
To me being a servant leader means to always put others needs before your own. By putting that into action in daily life, there are so many benefits from it. Most people think it's just giving up your seat for someone, but it could be as simple as a smile to someone who needs it even when you don't feel like it just to make their day better. For years no one could figure out what was wrong with my knee. I had to keep a positive mindset after each bad result, knowing and hoping they would figure it out.

Who has been one of the biggest inspirations in your life, and what have they taught you?
One of the biggest inspirations in my life would be my best friend, Sienna. She is the type of person everyone needs in their life. She has taught me so many things in life but the one i carry around with me the most is how to not give up when times get tough. She showed me that you can make it through and still have a smile on your face. She truly has inspired me in so many more ways than one and taught me so many things I couldn't even count them.

If you could create a project or event to bring your community together, what would it be and why?
If I could make an event to bring the community together it would be a pet parade. I would get the shelters involved and have some of the puppies out during the parade so that even if some people don't have an animal they could walk an adoptable puppy through the parade. This would bring people together because even if they don't have a pet, pet lovers would still come to watch the parade. It would be an opportunity to just bring the community together over something that wouldn’t cause any arguments or anything. Just peaceful, fun, and paws.

How do you balance school, faith, leadership roles, and helping others without burning out?
How I have managed to balance all these things without burning out is by using night time as a chance to reset. I let it all go and I don't carry anything bad from the day before into the next day. I've noticed when I carry it to the next day, it makes me burn out faster. Every night I open up my bible, play music and just use that as my reset. I pray about the things I struggled with from the previous day and ask for strength to handle them better the next day.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you that contributes to who you are today?
Something most people don't expect about me is that I love being outdoors. I love hunting and fishing and am pretty active in the ag classes with woodworking and welding. Even though it shocks some people, it has taught me that not everything works the way you think it would and sometimes you have to change plans. That doesn't mean you can give up. These things have taught me patience, a skill of working around the problem and figuring out solutions instead of giving up.

What legacy or message do you hope to leave behind for younger students or peers looking up to you?
The message I want to leave behind when I'm gone is to just be a good human. Whenever people think of me I hope they think of me as someone who tried to see the good in everyone. I truly do believe there is good inside of everyone, even the ones who try and hide it. I hope my legacy inspires people to always try and be the reason someone smiles that day no matter how bad of a day they had. To just make sure everyone feels and knows they are loved by many.

How do you continue to grow your leadership skills, and what are you currently working on improving?
I continue to grow my leadership skills by working in the nursery at my church. The kids are the future and if you allow them to grow up learning the right way they'll already know it when they need it. I am currently working on trying to spread the good word. As I continue to try to improve myself, I am teaching the future of us, the youth. Teaching them how to be leaders and learning ways that they can put themselves out there. To use their talents and find their purpose.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
In the world we live in today, it is hard to get by, day after day, while also trying to keep your head above water. Sometimes I feel like I'm not inspiring or there is more that I could be doing for people. These days are when I have to remind myself that no one is perfect. We will all mess up it's just a matter of how you handle failure. Something inspiring about me is how I want to watch everyone succeed, I strive to help everyone and be the person there during a time of need.

What else would you like to talk about?
I am actively involved in FFA at Windthorst High school and it is something that has taught me numerous lessons in life. It has brought me out of my shell, taught me how to be a leader in tough times, gave me lifelong friendships, and memories I will cherish forever.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
The thing I feel most passionate about is my faith. If you were to ask me about that I could go on and on and never run out of things to share. My faith is something I feel as if it has saved me many times whenever everything started to get hard. Beng passionate about my faith has helped me not only to get through things that seemed impossible but has helped me to find a purpose and find a meaning to life that I wasn't sure I had before.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
My photographer is Olivia Henry, and she truly is amazing. I found her because one of my good friends was involved with her and she would always tell me stories from her shoots with Olivia. To say the least, my experience was nothing short of amazing. What I love most about Olivia is how she always finds a way to bring light into the shoot and always makes me feel comfortable in front of a camera.

Are you a part of a model team with your photographer, and if so, tell us about it.
Yes, I am on the team with my photographer, Olivia Henry, and the team is amazing. All the girls are able to make each other feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
My mom was the one who nominated me for inspiring teens. Although I have many memories to pick from my favorite is going to have to be when we went to Alabama for this HUGE outdoor concert. Even though it was humid and we were sweating through our clothes it was still one of the most memorable moments of my life.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I think it would really help to not only inspire myself but share my story and inspire others in a way that I haven't ever been able to before.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I were to win a Scholarship, I would put the money to further my education by attending veterinary school.

What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?
My ideal dream job is to become an Equine Veterinarian.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
Someone I would like to thank for helping me get to where I am today is my Grandpa. He has been there for me when it felt like I had no one else. He is someone who sits there and listens. Even if what I tell him wasn't probably the best decision, he still never makes me feel judged.

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?
One other thing I'd like to talk about is an event called BCV (Big Country Veterans). It is an event supporting veterans and helping to remind them there are so many people to support them. This event has become a huge part of my life because getting to meet and talk to some of these veterans will truly further your appreciation for the sacrifice these individuals make on the daily.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
If I had nothing to do all day you would probably find me in my room curled up in a blanket binge-watching my favorite show.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
My friends and I are in Ag Mech at our school and are about to start making our project for the county show coming up.

What is the hardest thing you have ever accomplished, and how did you do it?
One of the hardest things I've ever accomplished was trying to re-learn how to walk after a major knee surgery. I did it by staying positive and knowing I could do it if I just didn't give up.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
The advice I would give is to surround yourself with people who will encourage you and help you to stay positive even on the days that seem hard.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
In 5 years I hope to be attending college starting my path to becoming a vet.

What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination?
My favorite activity has got to be growing flowers or just plants in general. The joy it brings when the seeds start to sprout is unmatched.

Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
My hidden talent would have to be math. Math has always been my strong suit in school and I guess I could consider myself lucky for that one.

3 Things on your bucket list
Three things that are at the top of my bucket list are swimming with whale sharks, visiting all 50 of the states, and going to Africa.

Who do you find inspiring?
I find my parents inspiring because they always put my needs before their own.

What about you inspires others/why do you think you are inspiring?
The thing that I think is most inspiring about me is how I can always have a smile on my face no matter the circumstance.

What has your experience with dyslexia taught you about perseverance and success?
Dealing with dyslexia has taught me that success often comes from finding different ways to approach challenges. It's about adapting, not giving up and using my strengths to overcome weaknesses.

How do you balance being a student, athlete, and holding two jobs—and still stay on the honor roll?
Time management and prioritizing tasks are key to balancing school, sports, and work while maintaining honor roll status.

What advice would you give to someone facing challenges they feel are holding them back?
Setbacks are a part of growth, and seeking support from friends, family, or mentors can make a big difference.

What does it mean to you to be a captain of your wrestling team?
Being a wrestling team captain means leading by example, both on and off the mat. It's about motivating teammates, being a role model in terms of discipline and sportsmanship. It also means supporting everyone and helping them achieve their personal best.

Can you describe a moment on the mat that changed you as both an athlete and a person?
During my first wrestling tournament as a sophomore, I was taken aback when my opponent cursed at me for pushing her out of bounds; her reaction threw me off, and when she swatted at my face, the match was stopped, leaving me in shock and challenging me to remain composed in the face of unsportsmanlike conduct.

How do you motivate or mentor younger teammates who look up to you?
I try to lead by example, showing them the dedication and work ethic it takes to improve. I also share my own experiences, both successes and failures, to help them learn and grow.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
As a family oriented person with a strong belief in God, I am driven to combat bullying in schools. My faith teaches me to love and protect others, especially those who are vulnerable. I believe every child deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued in their school community. By promoting kindness, empathy, and understanding, I hope to foster a culture where bullying is not tolerated, and every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, reflecting the love and compassion that are central to my beliefs.

Why is anti-bullying work important to you, and how do you advocate for kindness in your school?
Anti-bullying work is crucial because everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued. Bullying can have devastating effects on a person's well-being and self-esteem. In my school, I advocate for kindness by standing up for others when I see bullying occur.

What role has your faith played in shaping your character and how you treat others?
My faith has taught me the importance of compassion, empathy, and treating everyone with respect. It guides me to be kind, understanding, and to stand up for what is right, which influences how I interact with and support others.

What else would you like to talk about?
Riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers is my escape, a way to feel the rush of adrenaline and connect with the outdoors. Hunting is another passion, a chance to immerse myself in nature. These activities aren't just hobbies; they're sources of joy and connection that enrich my life.

How do activities like riding dirt bikes and hunting help you recharge and stay grounded?
Those activities let me disconnect from daily stress and reconnect with nature. The focus required for dirt biking clears my head, while hunting teaches patience. Both help me feel grounded and refreshed.

What’s one of your favorite memories from time spent outdoors?
I love the memories of being on the boat with my family at Lake Perry, tubing and wakeboarding.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
Wrestling fuels my drive to be a strong and independent woman, pushing me to overcome challenges and set personal records. Being captain allows me to inspire younger teammates, showing them the value of hard work and dedication. I love seeing their growth, knowing I've played a part in shaping their wrestling journey and building a stronger team together.

How do you hope to combine your leadership, and compassion in your future?
I hope to combine leadership and compassion in a nursing job by taking on roles such as a charge nurse. This would allow me to lead and mentor other nurses, ensuring they provide the best possible patient care with empathy and understanding. I'd also advocate for patient needs.

What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind at your school or in your community?
I want to leave a legacy of kindness and inclusivity at my school. I hope to be remembered as someone who always stood up for others, created a welcoming environment for everyone, and inspired others to be compassionate and make a positive impact.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
It's incredible how connections can form in unexpected ways. When the photographer became friends with my mom, their shared experience of loss created a bond that words can't fully capture. With my stepdad battling cancer, the photographer's gesture of offering a photoshoot is such a heartwarming way to bring joy into our lives. What I appreciate most is the photographer's dedication to capturing the best possible photos, a true act of kindness and support during a challenging time.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
My favorite memories with my mom is her showing up to all my wrestling tournaments and cross country meets. Now, watching her struggle to care for my stepdad through his cancer battle is tough. Despite everything, she's always been my rock, supporting my dreams and accomplishments. I deeply appreciate her unwavering presence, especially during these hard times. Her strength inspires me every day.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
Being featured in Inspiring Teen Magazine would be a dream come true, allowing me to share my passion for wrestling with a wider audience. Wrestling has taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of hard work, qualities I believe can inspire others. I want to show how this sport has shaped me, both physically and mentally, and how it can empower teens to overcome challenges. This platform would allow me to connect with like-minded individuals and promote the positive impact of wrestling on young lives.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
Winning this scholarship would be a game-changer, directly fueling my dream of attending nursing school. With this financial support, I can fully dedicate myself to my studies and training, becoming the best nurse possible. My goal is to provide compassionate care and make a positive impact on patients' lives. This scholarship would alleviate financial burdens, allowing me to focus on learning and developing the skills needed to help others through their most challenging times. It's an investment in my future and, more importantly, in the well-being of the community I aim to serve.

What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?
If I were offered my dream job today, I'd be torn between becoming a model or a radiologist. Modeling appeals to me because it allows for creativity and self-expression, and I enjoy the idea of working in a visually dynamic field. On the other hand, radiology attracts me due to the intellectual challenge and the opportunity to make a significant impact on people's health through diagnostic imaging.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
I'm incredibly grateful to my parents for their unwavering support and guidance. Despite my imperfections, they have always been there to help me grow and become the person I am today. Their love and encouragement have been instrumental in shaping my character and values.

Nomination: Victoria Clark is that friend who makes you feel like anything is possible. She’s smart in a way that’s not just book-smart but life-smart... she just gets it. Her energy is magnetic, her words hit deep, and when she walks into a room, people listen. She’s the type who’ll hype you up, speak facts, and still somehow teach you something without even trying. Victoria’s not just different... she’s unforgettable.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
The summer before senior year me and my family experienced a house fire where we lost a lot and were displaced. During this time I managed an internship, a job, and band camp/marching band rehearsal all at the same time and sometime even within the same day while trying to help myself and my family recover. I think that me going through this after everything I’ve already been through really showed people around me that you can’t just sit around and give up when things get hard and that as long as you’re focused anything is possible.

Where did you do your internship and why did you choose to do it?
I worked in a research lab through Upstate Medical University. My goal is to become an MD/PhD, and I knew getting hands-on lab experience would give me a strong foundation in the field I want to pursue.

What was your primary responsibility there?

I assisted with research, prepared materials, and ran various tests for the study.

What was the most valuable thing you learned at your internship?
How to run a gel electrophoresis test!

What do you love most about your job and what do you do?
I currently work two jobs. One starts early in the morning, which I actually enjoy because it gives me the rest of the day to myself—especially in the summer.

What have you learned about yourself in the workforce?
That I’m determined and adaptable. Whether I’m working alone or with a team, I find a way to get the job done.

When did you get involved in Marching Band and why?
I joined during my sophomore year. I saw it listed as a club and then watched a rehearsal after school. It looked fun, so I started asking questions—and ended up joining color guard. I’ve had no regrets since.

What instrument do you play and what does it mean to you?

I play violin and percussion, and I also sing. Music is a core part of who I am—it’s expressive, healing, and joyful.

What pushes you to keep going when things get overwhelming or stressful?

My goals—and the dream of one day being able to provide for my family. That’s what keeps me grounded and focused.

What else would you like to talk about?
I used to struggle with asking for help, even when I was overwhelmed. During high school, I faced a lot that drained me mentally, but I kept it in until I couldn’t anymore. After my house fire, I finally opened up—and the support my family and I received made me feel seen and not alone. That experience changed me. I also found comfort in extracurriculars; they gave me joy, purpose, and a place to breathe when life felt heavy. I’ve learned that healing often starts with connection—and that it’s okay to lean on others when you need to.

What extracurricular did you sign up for first, and what was the best thing about it?
Orchestra and chorus. I already played violin and loved to sing. Chorus opened so many doors for me—it helped me grow as a performer, led me to drama club, and gave me a strong sense of peace and purpose.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
Helping others has always brought me joy—whether caring for my sick grandmother, supporting my neighbor, or simply listening when someone needs to talk. I’m passionate about healthcare and believe everyone deserves equal, compassionate care. I hope to become an oncologist, where I can support people through their toughest moments. There are so many meaningful conversations to be had—about mental health, health equity, and the social determinants of health—and I’m excited to keep learning and growing to become part of the change.

What advice would you give someone who wants to start caring for others?

Do it because you genuinely care—not because there’s something in it for you. The true reward is how you make people feel by just being present.

What’s your dream job if it were offered today?

Being a doctor. I’ve wanted to be one since I was ten.

What do you hope people remember about you after hearing your story?

That I’m more than a number—whether it’s grades, statistics, or stereotypes. I’m a positive, smart, hardworking, and determined individual who wants to help others and will always do my best to show up for the people around me.

What’s something you’ve accomplished that made you stop and say, “Wow, I really did that”?

Graduating with honors, earning my CTE endorsement, the Seal of Civic Readiness, and walking across the stage with so many cords. That moment made everything feel worth it.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
I met my photographer through marching band, his child did color guard with me and he takes all of our photos during competitions and events. I truly enjoyed the positivity and humor during the experience, while I was there I could tell he was passionate about photography and I knew the photos were going to come out great, it was also a plus to have a friend there because I knew his kid they came along and helped with the photoshoot.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
One of my favorite memories is talking on the phone on my last birthday, right after everything happened with my house. We laughed and reminisced, and for a moment, I forgot all the stress. Another favorite is after school when we were hanging out and joking around. He was recording a TikTok but couldn’t learn the dance, so I ended up doing it just out of frame. We were both cracking up—it was pure joy.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
To show young people that even when life gets hard, you can persevere and make a difference—no matter how big or small. I want to uplift those who are often counted out, underestimated, or discouraged, and remind them that they can do it—that it’s possible to beat the odds, no matter what others say. And finally, I want to be a source of representation for kids like me in my community—so they know they’re not alone, that facing challenges is part of life, and that there’s strength in asking for help, and even more in choosing not to give up.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
- I would use this money to help with college expenses. Winning this scholarship would mean a lot to me. I’m saving this summer to pay my tuition each semester because I want to avoid student loans while completing my undergraduate degree. I plan to continue my education to become a doctor, which will be even more expensive. This scholarship would help cover part of my first semester tuition, bringing me closer to achieving my goals.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
My mom and my sister—without them, I wouldn’t be who I am.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
In bed watching an action series.

What’s up next for you that you are super excited about?
College!!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?

Go to class on time, join clubs, have fun, ignore the negativity, and never give up on yourself.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
In medical school, working toward my MD/PhD.

What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination?
Cooking or baking, and writing poems.

Yes—the ability to learn and memorize music and lyrics quickly.

Rhyan Sanford

Picture

Rhyan Sanford – Mississippi
Nomination by Morgan Sanford
Photography by Amanda Smith Photography
Issue 93 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Rhyan is an inspiring young leader whose drive, compassion, and resilience set her apart. Whether she’s volunteering, excelling academically, or encouraging her peers, Rhyan consistently leads by example. She balances a full schedule of school, sports, and service while remaining grounded, kind, and humble. Her passion for making a difference is contagious—she uplifts those around her and takes initiative in everything she does. Rhyan’s ability to persevere through challenges with a positive attitude makes her not just a role model to other teens, but a powerful force for good in her community.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
Having a servant’s heart is something I really value, and I try to live that out in everything I do. I’m always happy to step up and help someone when they need it, whether it’s volunteering, cheering on a teammate, or just being there for a friend. I don’t do it for recognition, I just truly enjoy showing up for others and making a difference, even in small ways. Being kind and compassionate matters to me, and I hope the way I care leaves a positive impact on the people around me.

What else would you like to talk about?
I’m so excited and honored to be selected as a member of Forrest General Hospital’s Spirit Girls! Giving back has always been really important to me, and being part of this group gives me the chance to serve my community in meaningful ways. I’m looking forward to learning, growing, and connecting with other girls who share that same passion for helping others. Spirit Girls feels like the perfect place for me to continue doing what I love, making a difference.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
If you know me, you know I could talk about my dog Kotie all day, he’s my best friend and always by my side. I also love spending time with my friends, whether we’re goofing off, or just being there for each other. And volleyball is seriously one of my biggest passions. I love the energy, the teamwork, and how it pushes me to be better. Those three things mean the world to me.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
My mom and Mrs. Amanda have been friends forever. I saw her post on Facebook about needing junior reps for the 2025–2026 school year, so I signed up. I had so much fun working with her! She’s super funny and always tells me to “smile from within,” which makes me laugh. I’m really glad I got to do it!

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
Going to Pretty Place Chapel in Cleveland, South Carolina with my mom was one of the best experiences ever. We woke up early to watch the sunrise, and it was honestly the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. The mountains, the colors in the sky didn’t even feel real. It was so quiet and peaceful. I loved getting to share that with my mom.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I would be so honored to be featured in Inspiring Teens magazine because I love encouraging others and showing that being kind, hardworking, and true to yourself really does matter. I try to lead by example, whether I’m on the volleyball court, volunteering, or just being a good friend. I think it’s important for teens to see that you don’t have to be the loudest in the room to make a difference. Being part of something that celebrates positivity, leadership, and service would mean so much to me, and I’d be proud to represent those values.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I were to win the $1,000 scholarship, I would put the money into my college savings account. I know how important it is to plan for the future, and this would help me get one step closer to reaching my goals in becoming a veterinarian. I’m so thankful for any opportunity that helps support my education and future dreams.

Rachel Papson

Picture

Rachel Papson – Washington
Nomination & Photography by Ashley Papson
Issue 93 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Rachel is inspiring to all kinds of teens in our area. She is a two sport athlete and team captain, also a business owner, selling merchandise and donating all profits to help people in foreign counties. She is very involved in her school as officer of multiple clubs and also a Young Life leader. Additionally, she is very dedicated to community service, is on a national board promoting inclusion and is willing to help anyone. She is a kind, hard worker and her dedication is clear.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
A few things my nomination does not cover is my passion and work put in for school. I am always pushing myself to be better and do harder things when it comes to school, and school related activities. Whether that’s going after a position to be the DECA president, or Class Officer, or just joining a new club to try something new, I constantly try to be involved in a variety of areas within my school.

What else would you like to talk about?
Another thing I am passionate about is travel. I love exploring new places and different cultures. The photo submitted was taken on a trip to the Caribbean where I’ve visited almost every island! A goal of mine for the future is definitely to travel to every continent and serve communities in other parts of the world.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I’m passionate about encouraging other girls to go after bold goals, especially the ones that seem too big or out of reach. I want to encourage confidence in other girls like me and remind them that they can do anything. To me, leadership means showing up with courage, speaking life into others, and reminding girls that confidence isn’t something you’re born with, it’s something you build. If I can help someone believe they’re capable of more than they thought, then I know I’m doing something meaningful.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
My photographer was my sister, she may be younger than me but she is very experienced in photography and can capture amazing images. She is always willing to take photos for me and makes every experience great through her support and skills.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
A favorite memory with my nominator is playing our sport together. With my sister as my photographer we have many memories together but a special one that stands out to me was the time we spent training and playing volleyball together. Both of us grew up playing volleyball but it wasn’t until a few years ago that we finally got the chance to play together and that was special to us because it was a rare opportunity and we got to bring our skills together.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine to show other teens that you don’t have to wait to make a difference. You can be young and still lead, serve, and create real impact. I hope my stories encourages teens to use their voice, and go after big goals.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I win a scholarship I will use the money towards my education. I have dreamed to go to law school for a long time and have been building a college application for years. However the one thing I don’t have is funds to attend my top choices for college. I hope to raise money through scholarships and would be honored to receive one from Inspiring Teens!

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
Our photographer, Jyll Jasiek, was also the principal at Quinn's first school in the United States, Holy Family Catholic School. Jyll & Quinn bonded immediately, and it is because of Jyll that Quinn had/has such a love for school. She understood all of our concerns for wanting Quinn in a small school to learn how to form bonds and skills above everything else. She welcomed her into the school family immediately! All of our prayers were answered. Jyll has taken SO many of our family photographs as well as all of Quinn's milestones. It was only obvious that she would be her senior photographer and of course every single picture is amazing! From that very first day of school to now senior year, Quinn and Jyll have been besties and facetime on the regular!

She is my mom and I love her!
