What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
When I was 9, I lost a close friend from dance who was just 11 years old to cancer. It was heartbreaking to see someone so young go through something so devastating. That loss left a deep impact on me, inspiring me to support pediatric cancer research and awareness. I want to honor her memory by helping other children and their families who are facing similar battles, and I hope my efforts can make a difference in the fight against childhood cancer.

What else would you like to talk about?
I support pediatric cancer fundraising through Ari’s Bears by organizing various events. We host stuffed bear-making events, participate in festivals, and even hold dance marathons to raise money and awareness. These activities not only bring people together but also help provide comfort to children battling cancer. It's rewarding to see the positive impact we can make in their lives while honoring the memory of those we've lost.

What have you learned from being a part of Ari’s Bears?
Being part of the Ari’s Bears Foundation for pediatric cancer has taught me so much about the power of compassion, resilience, and community. I’ve learned that even small acts of kindness, like delivering a teddy bear, can bring immense comfort to children and their families during incredibly difficult times. It’s also opened my eyes to the importance of advocacy and raising awareness. Most importantly, I’ve seen firsthand the strength and bravery of the kids and families affected by cancer, which inspires me to keep making a difference in any way I can.

What has been the most rewarding part of this experience?
Bringing smiles (even for a brief moment) to cancer patients and their families is the most rewarding part of this outreach.

Tell us about your dance career.
I started dance in 2012 at Karen Sachs Academy of Dance. Karen Sachs herself was my very first teacher. Now I have danced there for 12 years, I am student teaching and am involved in their social media.

What is your dance schedule like - for both training and competitions?
My dance schedule this year is completely booked. I study Hip Hop, Rhythmic Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, and Ballet. Since I student teach when not taking classes myself, I am at the studio Mondays- Saturdays. This season we have 3 competitions. One competition each month starting in March.

What has been a favorite memory in dance?
My favorite memory in dance has to be when we went to Nationals when I was 5. I got to dance in the opening number of the awards and met friends that I still keep in touch with today.

What is your dance studio like and why do you love it?
I love my dance studio because it feels like a second home. It’s a place where I can just be myself surrounded by supportive teachers and friends.

What is something you wish non dancers knew about dancing?
One thing I wish non-dancers knew about dancing is that it’s so much more than just memorizing steps or routines. It’s a form of expression, a way to communicate emotions, tell stories, and connect with others on a deeper level.

How has dancing shaped you as a person?
Dance has shaped me into a stronger and more committed person in every aspect of my life. It has taught me the value of strength and discipline. Pushing through tough rehearsals and mastering challenging choreography has shown me that growth comes from hard work and dedication.
Dance has also strengthened my sense of commitment and responsibility. I know that success, whether in dance or in life, comes from consistency and effort. I’ve applied this to everything I do, from school to personal goals, always striving for improvement and giving my best.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
Dance has always been a huge passion of mine, and I could talk about it forever. From the energy of each movement to the emotions that flow through every performance, it's something that deeply connects with me. Whether it's learning new choreography, perfecting technique, or just feeling the music, I find joy in every aspect of it. It’s more than just an art form—it’s a way of expressing myself. Dance has shaped so much of who I am, and I love sharing that passion with others.

How did you find your photographer? What was your experience like? What did you love most?
I met my photographer through a mutual friend who knew I was looking for someone to help me model dancewear brands. From our first conversation, I could tell we clicked. The experience was seamless—she made me feel comfortable in front of the camera and always knew how to get the perfect shot. What I enjoyed most was her ability to capture candid moments that felt genuine, not staged. Every time we work together, it feels more like a fun collaboration than just a photoshoot, and that makes the process so much fun.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to be featured in Inspiring Teens Magazine because it’s an amazing platform to share my passion for dance and how I use it to support pediatric cancer funding. Dance allows me to connect with others while raising awareness for a cause that's close to my heart. By being in the magazine, I hope to inspire other teens to use their talents to make a difference, showing that no matter your age, you can have a powerful impact. It’s a chance to spread positivity, highlight the importance of pediatric cancer support, and encourage others to get involved.

What do you love most about your school?
What I love most about my school is the environment. You feel welcomed and loved by every teacher. I also love that we are able to openly worship the Lord. All of the teachers are there to help us grow our faith and help us in our walk with Christ, which I think is such a crucial part of my Faith.

What is a school tradition you love to participate in and why?
I enjoy our school’s regular weekly chapel, but I especially love our occasional all-school chapel. Every once in a while, everyone on campus from wee warriors to seniors have chapel together. There is something so special about seeing and hearing all different ages worship the Lord. Everyone is at a different stage in life, but they are all turning to the Lord in that moment.

Tell us about your volleyball career. When did you get started and where are you at with it now?
I started in 7th grade, not really sure if I even wanted to play, and now it is basically my life. I am in the gym almost every day during the fall working with my school team. Then in the spring, I do the same thing but with my club team, traveling all across the south for tournaments.

Why does being a middle blocker suit you?
I have always been a middle blocker, primarily because I am tall. That is still the main reason I stick to that position, but I do love it. On defense, I have the chance to block every ball coming our way to help my team. On offense, I love all the different plays we can run and ways I can hit the ball to cause the opponents confusion. I couldn’t imagine playing any other position.

What do you look forward to most at worship nights?
Over the summer while we were away from school, I hosted a couple of worship nights at my house to stay connected with my friends.  They were never anything big, but I loved the idea of growing a community of people you always knew you could rely on. God had a plan for every step of it, and I trusted him fully. Everyone that was there, God wanted to be there, which was what I found most special.

What are some of your favorite games to play at game night? Which is your favorite and why?
Some of my favorites are Phase 10, Spoons, and Uno. My all-time favorite is definitely Spoons. I love how competitive everyone gets when you play. The speed of the game makes everyone think fast, and it typically ends very quickly and competitively, making it a very funny game to watch as well.

How would you describe your leadership style?

I would say I like to have control of the planning on the front end, and I try to make everything super clear to everyone involved, but when it comes down to it, I like to step back. Once I have everything planned out and going smoothly, I like to either participate or watch. I am better at planning for an event than actively leading it.  I like things so planned out that I don’t really need to lead it.

What is your best leadership quality?
I would say my best leadership quality is planning. By the time the event arrives, I typically have everything planned. I like to have an answer for every issue and everything worked out in advance.

What is your friend group like and what do you like to do together?

My friend group is very close. We do things together almost daily. Between volleyball and school events I am almost always with my friends. Outside of school we like to play pickleball, go out to eat, and shop together.

What is a favorite family tradition you hope never ends?
My favorite family tradition is every year on Christmas Eve. We all go outside and throw reindeer food (oatmeal and glitter) all over the yard. Then we come inside to read Christmas books. Before bed, we put out the milk and cookies.

What is the Heart Ball Sweethearts and what do you do in this organization?
The Sweetheart program is a group of girls that advocate for heart health. You typically participate during your sophomore year of high school. We learn about medical care and heart health. We also do a lot of volunteering in different hospitals, and we raise money for the medical field. At the end of our Sweetheart year we have a huge ball, called the Heart Ball.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I am a very creative person, like my mother. I love to organize events, design spaces, and shop with her. I also love the excitement of traveling and exploring with my family.

What else would you like to talk about?

I love my three golden doodles, Harper Cash, Hunter Brooks, and Scotti McGraw. I am also stuck between two brothers, one who is eighteen and the other who is eight.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?

Despite the appearances created by social media, it is easy for people to feel very lonely. I am passionate about relationships and believe connection is important. I work hard to make sure everyone I meet feels involved and included, and I hate seeing people left out. But on a deeper level, with my true friends, I strive for real, genuine connection.

How did you find your photographer? What was your experience like? What did you love most?

I met Cami Jones at church. She quickly became my mentor, and she played a role in my baptism. I have stayed connected with her through the years and consider her a great friend.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?

I am excited to be a part of this great organization and amazing publication. I am so thankful that my photographer and friend, Cami Jones, nominated me. I am proud to be included among all the inspiring teens highlighted in Inspiring Teens Magazine!

Pope Scurlock - Georgia
Nomination & Photography by Natalia Jones, Juju Social Photography
Issue 84 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Pope is a ray of sunshine! She is loved by all, she is funny, witty, loving, and a well rounded student athlete. I nominate her because her joy is contagious and she is beautiful inside and out!
Photography by Natalia Jones, Juju Social Photography

How did you find your photographer? What was your experience like? What did you love most?
I have known Mrs. Natalia for a lot of years. She photographs most of my high school’s sports teams and lots of my friends have used her for their Senior Portraits. Also, her younger son is best friends with my little brother and her older son was a year above me at our high school. I absolutely love Mrs. Natalia!! She is so good at her job and she makes you feel so special. She is so sweet and thoughtful and positive and her smile is contagious.

What is a favorite memory with Natalia Jones, who nominated you?
My favorite memory with Mrs. Natalia was when she was taking my senior pictures. She was getting some up-close senior portraits, and she started played the song, “Party in the U.S.A” from her phone and she danced with the biggest smile on her face. It made me laugh and she immediately started taking pictures and told me how beautiful I was! She’s very silly and always knows how to make me laugh.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I love high school! I love the teachers, the classes, my fellow students, learning more about different subjects, and participating in any and every activity that I possibly have time for. I am a very excited and passionate person, and I love to be involved and spend time with other people and getting to know them better.

What do you love best about high school?
My favorite thing about High School is the community. I love the fact that I can stop and talk to my teachers in the hallways, and that they are always looking to come support their students at whatever they are interested in. I also love meeting and saying hello to students in the hallways or school events. It feels like you can talk to anyone. Everyone is always so welcoming and open to meeting new people, which makes it very easy to make new connections.

What is your favorite class this year and what is the most interesting thing you've learned?
My favorite class this year is AP Physics/Mechanics. I’ve learned a lot about the energy, friction, and behavior of objects in motion. I even learned how a car braking system works and how friction plays into our everyday life. Physics is very interesting because it's very applicable to the things I do daily.

What school tradition are you most looking forward to this year and what are your plans for it?
The tradition I’m most looking forward to is dressing up for “Friday Night Lights”. My school always dresses up at school to the theme of the football game on Friday. It is so fun being able to come to class and see the majority of my peers dressed up to show support for our football team in the form of school spirit. My plan is to go to every home football game, and, being a senior and all, I plan to go all out in every theme.

What activity so far this year will you never forget?
One activity I will never forget was competing in the homecoming pep rally for my Senior class with my favorite teacher. We had to run out on the gym floor and hype up our class before the big football game that followed school. I then had to play the “Hungry Hungry Hippos” in front of the whole school which meant my teacher had to push me around on a scooter as I competed against the other representatives to win. We didn’t win the game, but it was so much fun to hear all my class cheering for us! (and the other grades booing us!)

What legacy do you hope to leave behind?
I hope to leave River Ridge a better, happier place. I hope the legacy I leave points to my optimistic, ray of sunshine energy that always lights up a room. When people think of me and my place at River Ridge, I hope they think about how I made school fun, was a friend to all, and how I bring people together.

What else would you like to talk about?
I am so excited to be nominated because I hope to be a role model for other high school girls. I am a very involved and scholastic student and love to contribute to my high school’s activities. Between playing Varsity: Soccer and Flag Football and serving on the Student Athlete Leadership Team and being a spirit ambassador at the HS football games, I love my high school journey.

Tell us about your soccer career. When did you get started and where are you at with it now?
Soccer is my pride and joy. I love it and its my favorite thing to do. I started when I was about 6 years old and I haven’t stopped since. Through all the sports i grew up playing, soccer was always at the top of my list. I am continuing to play soccer in the next era of my life as I am now committed to play soccer at Sewanee: University of the South.

What position do you play and why does it suit you?
I play striker, which is the position highest up the field, closest to the goal. My main job is very simple, to score goals. I love it because it's always filled with lots of excitement, and everyone counts on you to put the ball in the back of the net. It suits my ambitious and confident personality. To be a good striker, you not only have to be able to take risks and take advantage of your opportunities, but you also must stay positive and be patient because you never know when the ball will end up at your feet, and your time to strike will come.

What about flag football do you love the most?
I love flag football because it has great emphasis on teamwork and strategy. Being the quarterback of the team last year, it forces you to make quick decisions under constant pressure. I love being able to analyze the defense and make suggestions that I think could work on the next play. It requires constant problem solving and consistency.

What is a favorite accomplishment in flag football?
My favorite accomplishment in flag football was advancing to the playoffs my freshman year. We worked hard all season and practiced countless plays over and over to consistently get the ball in my hands (I was a wide receiver this year.) We beat the team by only one point, and I was able to outrun two defenders to get the ball across the endline for the extra point for the win.
What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I love all sports! I love to watch sports as a spectator but I especially love to play!! I have been fortunate to be a fairly good athlete and have learned so much about myself out on the field, like: how to be a good teammate, how to be coachable and trainable and how to collaborate with my teammates. I have also learned how to reign in my racing thoughts by trying to temper my internal voice and my mental game Being on a sports team has helped me in my real life on and off the fields.

What is the Student Athlete Leadership Team and what are your roles and responsibilities?
The Student Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) is a group of student athletes that focus on developing leadership and promoting positive values within the sports community. We organize events, mentor young athletes, and act as a bridge between the athletic department and the student body. For example, on Friday, we are going to the elementary school to read books to kindergarteners and donate books to the library. It is a great program for student-athletes to make a positive impact on and off the field!

How would you describe your leadership style?
My leadership style is team mentality. I am very good at connecting with teammates and determining their strengths and weaknesses to help them reach the best they can be. I also lead by example. My positive attitude and constant hard work ethic encourages people to want to do the same.

What do you do as a spirit ambassador at HS football games?
My responsibility is to go to as many high school sports games as I can and show support for our sports teams. I also get to hold the megaphone at football games to start chants and cheers in the student section. It represents that I am an advocator for River Ridge athletics and my job is to convince my peers to come ready and spirited for the games to help our atheletes play the best they can.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
It would be cool to be in the Inspiring Teams Magazine, and to be featured as a positive leader for my fellow teens. High school can be hard, but there are lots of helpful people, amazing resources, and fun activities that you can participate in to enrich your life.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
If I could choose, I’d definitely be at the beach. Now, I know that is very unrealistic because I live far from the beach, but the beach is my overall my favorite place to be. I love being outside and listening to the waves, and my music, and I don’t get to relax much, so the beach calms me. I also love skimboarding on the waves as an activity.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
I am very excited to attend Sewanee and play soccer at the next level. I look forward to getting a great education while also being a part of a sport and making new friends. It will be a big step in my life, and I am ready to work hard to accomplish my goals academically, athletically, and grow as a leader.

Corynn Kjederquist

Corynn Kjederquist – Colorado
Nomination by Brian Kjederquist
Photography by Five Parks Photography
Issue 84 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Corynn Kjederquist, she is inspiring because of the unimaginable things she has been through that I think inspires all teens to keep going even if challenges get in their way. In 2021 she had spinal fusion surgery from T2-L4. A scar that lay from the bottom of her neck to her tailbone. She’s a super high athlete and the road to recovery was not the best. But she worked it all out. Not even 8 weeks after having major back surgery she was back on that soccer field playing again. Her dedication and perseverance is why she is inspiring.

Tell us about your soccer career.
I started playing when I was 4. My dad coached me up until I was 11. Right now I am getting offers from colleges to further my soccer career later in life. Soccer is a big part of my life and I'm very blessed I get to continue my journey further down the road.

What position do you play and why does it suit you?
I play center mid. This position suits me because I am a very strong and dominant person in the midfield who doesn't give up no matter what. I distribute the ball extremely well and create those winning opportunities for my team. I'm a great asset in the midfield and someone who my team relies on for chances.

What is a favorite accomplishment in soccer?
Being captain and being able to play at the national/regional level in Colorado. Being captain is one of my best accomplishments. It shows my leadership as a teammate and my overall dedication towards my team and the sport paid off. I'm very proud of myself and I'm glad my teammates and my coach saw that in me. Also playing at the national/regional level. Over the past year I have significantly improved my overall technique and growth towards my sport. A year ago I was playing at the bottom level at my age group. I've worked very hard over the summer and put in the extra work to where now I'm playing for the top level in my club as well as the national/regional league which is ECNL-RL. I'm very proud of myself because I made it happen. I'm super passionate about this sport and I will do whatever it takes to be my best at it every single day.

What is a favorite memory with your soccer team?
Winning our first tournament together. Something I will never forget. It was a pre-season tournament and we all have never played with each other. Team chemistry wasn't there and we were still getting used to names and the style of play everyone was used to. Mind you we also had a brand new coach as well. We ended up making it to the finals after being very very successful in our other games. We worked our butts off and ended up winning through a PK shootout. Best feeling ever. Especially before our regular season league even started!

Tell us about the events leading up to your need for a spinal fusion surgery.
It all started when I was born. I was born with idiopathic scoliosis. All my life, since kindergarten, I was full time wearing a back brace to help correct the curve as I was growing. I slept with it, wore it all day. I would only take it off when I had to shower, or for an after school/activity break which typically lasted 2-3 hours before it was time to put it back on. I couldn't sit on the floor like the rest of my classmates. It was super hard going through that at a young age. It worked through elementary school, but once I hit 8th grade, it stopped. My curve got worse and the brace wasn't doing anything. It was time for surgery. I was promised no surgery at the start, but no one expected it to get like that. April 5, 2021 was the surgery date.

What was the recovery like?
Recovery was hard, I have to admit. My goal was to get back on that soccer field and that's all I was thinking about. Sleeping was rough and I had to adjust to the way I was laying down. The worst of all was sitting. I could not sit down and eat a meal without being in excruciating pain. We compromised and my dad fed me while walking around the house just so I could get some food in my system. But walking was the key to full recovery so I had to push through no matter what it took. My favorite thing was taking showers. The heat of the water would really help soothe the pain I had. I took at least 3-4 showers a day. I kept up on everything and walked to where I was back on that soccer field after undergoing major back surgery 8 weeks later. Greatest accomplishment of my life.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
My nomination gave the general base of what I went through. Adding onto it, after I recovered, I then spoke to young kids my age or below about to undergo the same surgery. Talking about my experience to them uplifted me and the families I was talking to. Engaging with them and letting them know that it will be okay is what I think is inspiring and also a healing process of my own. I think talking about it helped me express the way I was feeling through those hard times.

What is the most important thing you tell these kids about to undergo the same surgery?
That you are going to be okay. The kids are so scared to undergo surgery and are scared of the pain after and the road to recovery. I tell them that it is going to be all okay. You will have your rough days no doubt, recovery is most definitely not perfect. You will have your best days too. Where you experience little pain, or more movement you weren't able to do yesterday. I tell them not to be angry at themselves for failing but take it as a lesson. It will get better and it does take time, but it will all be okay.

What else would you like to talk about?
My dedication towards my sport. I think the willingness to fight for something I love even when things get hard is inspiring by itself. Many kids would have given up after the pain and suffering of recovery, but that is not my case. I pushed through and if I could share that even more with kids around me that are struggling and fighting to get back to the things they love I most definitely would.

What was your recovery like on a day to day basis?
It was super difficult for sure. I would wake up and take my meds. Shower first before I eat so I could get the muscles loose before I started to walk. I would then walk around my house while eating because sitting was still an issue throughout my recovery. I would then have to walk all the way up my neighborhood as my PT for the day. After that I would rest and recover for the remainder of the day, in between eating and taking showers until it was time for bed.

What do you wish others knew about the recovery phase?
How strong you really have to be. I'm not talking about being physically, mentally strong. It takes a huge toll on your mind taking pills all the time, the pain, the frustration and it hurts mentally and causes even more physical pain. People may see it as just physical since it is surgery and recovery of the body, but they never think about the mental side of it.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I feel passionate about my sport. The love I have for it and how it helps me focus on myself in many ways. It helps me with confidence and being proud of myself at something which I think all teens need to feel at some point in their lives.

How has soccer helped shape you as a person?
I think my leadership responsibility I hold on my team has definitely shaped me into the person I am. It has taught me to persevere and keep going no matter what gets in my way if its a challenge brought beyond the team or if it's a personal challenge for myself.

How did you find your photographer? What was your experience like? What did you love most?
Funny story! My mom works at an orthodontist and her kids go to see my mom! My mom saw her work and found interest and showed me! Also one of my old teammates also had her take senior photos as well and we just fell in love with the way they turned out! My experience was great! She is such a kind hearted lady and her work is incredible! I love that she always asks for my ideas and what I would like my photos to look like! I think that's very cool and important.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
To tell a story. I think that if my story were to be put out there, it would help a lot of teens/kids in many different ways. Teens and kids these days can't really relate to anyone with anything anymore, and I think seeing a role model or seeing someone that is going through similar stuff as them is really life changing and could benefit them in many ways. I want to be that person who had an impact on someone based on my own challenges. That is why I would like to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
The soccer field for sure. Or in my room painting. I've told you enough about soccer but not my passion for painting. I love to watercolor paint and I'm pretty good at it. It relaxes me when I have a tough day, or if the weather is bad and I cannot train for soccer. My room is full of the paintings I have done. Typically I paint sea animals. My favorite thing I have done so far is a stingray!

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
College. I'm super excited to branch out of high school and engage in college activities. I love the environment and the feel of it. The girls on the soccer team are so nice and I'm super excited for that to come up later in my life!

Photography by Seniors By Vaughanadora

What does taking dual credit college courses entail on your end?
Taking dual credit college courses helps me to get ahead, so that when I go to college, I’ll already have my basic courses out of the way. It also helps that my high school pays for all the college courses that I attend, and I also receive high school credit for these courses.

What is the CNA program and how does it factor in with your school work?
A CNA is a Certified Nursing Assistant that works under a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse. I am currently enrolled in this college program through my high school and will hopefully be a licensed CNA before I graduate, which will help me find a job in the medical field while I finish college.

What are you hoping to do in the medical field?
I am hoping to either be a cardiologist or a pediatrician.

Tell us about your cheer career.
I’ve been a cheerleader since 7th grade. As a Junior, I am now in my 5th year in cheerleading, and have been voted All-American at cheer camp 3 years in a row.

What is a favorite memory with your cheer team?
My favorite memory with my cheer team would have to be attending cheer camp. You are not only able to bond with your team, but with the other schools as well. As we are learning new dances, cheers, and stunts, we are also learning to trust and be comfortable with each other.

What position do you play in volleyball and why does it suit you?
My position in volleyball is a middle front, but I’m not sure why it suits me.

What is your favorite accomplishment in track?
Just being involved in track is an accomplishment for me. I suffer from asthma and my lungs are not the strongest, but I love running and at the same time, it helps me to strengthen my lungs.

What do you love most about being in the marching band?
What I love the most about being in the marching band is all the love and laughs that I get to share with the rest of my band members, while also accomplishing our goals of being an award-winning band.

What is your favorite genre of music to play and why?
My favorite genre of music to play would have to be pop music because the songs are faster and more outgoing.

What was your time in the gifted and talented program like?
My time in the gifted and talented program was fun because we were able to do several projects that were challenging to complete.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
Celeste Perez is a beautiful soul. She is smart, kindhearted, selfless, and shy, among other things. Once you break through her shyness, you find she has a great sense of humor, and you see she is the type of person that anyone can depend on with no questions asked.

What else would you like to talk about?
Things that I enjoy doing when I'm not involved with school activities is spending time with my family, reading, and writing. I am the oldest of my siblings. I have two brothers and a sister. Our ages vary, so I am the closest with my 13-year-old brother. He is one of my best friends. Reading and writing are things that I enjoy doing that help me relax. They take my mind off some things that may be a little stressful at the moment and help me clear my head.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
What I feel most passionate about would have to be my family. I am very close with both my parents and I love all 3 of my siblings dearly, but I would have to say that my most favorite person in the world and the one person that I could talk about forever would have to be my oldest brother, Jose, known by everyone as "Cuatro".

How did you find your photographer? What was your experience like? What did you love most?
I heard about my photographer through a social media post on Facebook. She was recruiting juniors and seniors from our surrounding areas to be a part of her team. I let my mother know that I was interested, and she took me to a meet and greet that the photographer had arranged. I decided to apply and was lucky enough to have been chosen and given the opportunity to participate and be a part of her team. My experience with being a part of Seniors By Vaughanadora has been a challenge, and I mean that in the best way. Being taken out of my comfort zone for some of the photoshoots is the scariest feeling, but then seeing the results and how my pictures turn out, is the most thrilling feeling. The fact that I was able to get through my fears and accomplish the task is fulfilling. What I love the most from being a part of Seniors By Vaughanadora, is the bonding and time spent with my photographer, Roxann, and the other models on the team. It feels like a second family. The support that we give to one another is amazing. I know a lot of my confidence comes from this group of girls. I'm grateful that I was given the opportunity to meet every single one of them and have them a part of my life. Especially my photographer, Roxann. She's a firecracker! She brings the best out of me.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I never would’ve imagined that a small-town girl like me would have the opportunity to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine. I've always been shy in front of a camera or when meeting new people. I would want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine because it would allow me to show other girls out there like myself, that are just as shy or lack that little bit of extra confidence, that they too can come out of their shell and that putting themselves out there, setting their fears aside, can give them access to opportunities that they otherwise wouldn't know existed.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
You would definitely find me at McDonald’s. I will be sitting there with my best friend, Omar, eating the chicken nuggets and drinking the sweet tea that he paid for.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
I am really excited about being a senior next year.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
In 5 years, I see myself still attending college and preparing myself to become a pediatrician or cardiologist. Hopefully by then, I will have made up my mind on which of the two I want to be.

3 Things on your bucket list
I want to learn how to speak fluent Spanish.
I want to watch a sunset with all my friends together.
I want to travel to Paris.

Who do you find inspiring?
My mom because she is so strong and goes through so much and still manages to take care of all of us while also working and being the best mom she can be.

Sadie always manages to make someone smile, no matter what. She loves to hug anyone and everyone, and she is kind and compassionate toward everyone around her. She has the bravery and courage to overcome any obstacle that might challenge her at any moment.
Photography by Samantha Southerland

What do you love most about high school?
What I love most about high school is the amazing people and the opportunities that my school provides. From the college career nights to the career internships, the options are endlesses. I feel so blessed to have all of these options. I think about it like my school provides me with amazing opportunities and my friends encourage me to be the best version of myself.

What has been the most exciting part of your senior year so far?
The most exciting part of my senior year so far is homecoming week, football games, post-season for golf, and the fact that I have learned so much through the classes I am taking this year. I believe that this year alone has definitely helped me carve out a path for my future. Being able to dress up with my friends and go to the football games together has truly made some of my best memories.

What is your favorite class and what is the most interesting thing you've learned?
My favorite class this year is my health internship class. Through this opportunity I am able to get experiences in the health care department while also learning things about myself. Getting to go to the hospital and experiencing real life situations has certainly taught me how to care for patients, but being put in these high stress situations has shown me what I shine in and what I need to improve on. Some of these things I have shined in and need to work on, I have found particularly interesting because they were not as I expected.

What legacy do you hope to leave behind?
I hope to leave a legacy of inspiration, but most importantly kindness. I strongly believe being kind and having a positive mindset will further anyone within their lives and improves the ability to live life to the fullest. I also hope I leave behind plenty of encouragement for others to put God first and trust him. God is our biggest supporter and is always there for us to turn to even when we feel most afraid. His Grace> Our Sins!

What do you love most about taking pictures?
I love the inspiration that a picture can show without words. Pictures capture some of the most beautiful and precious moments in life, and through pictures you can relive some of your happiest moments. Not only that, but a picture can take our moods, feelings, and ideas into something whole and I think that is beautiful.

What has been your favorite instagram picture you've posted and why?
My favorite picture I have posted will be the first instagram post I made, because it was a family trip to Wyoming. Traveling to Wyoming let me experience what the world was like outside of Alabama. My family and I also had so many amazing experiences that we were able to cherish together. I love going back and looking at that post and the pictures and feeling that overwhelming happiness I once did.

What is your friend group like and what do you like to do together?
My friend group is amazing. With all of the different personalities it creates the most hilarious, beautiful moments. I also love my friend group because of the respect they show for others. They are all so respectful and kind to others and I truly look up to them for that because I really value respect. We love to go out and eat, send funny videos, watch movies, and go to different places. I will always cherish my friends because of their encouragement and inspiration they have given me. They set great examples and that helps me try to be the best version of myself.

What is a favorite memory with your friends?
My favorite memory is when my friends and I went to Gulf Shores for a softball tournament. We definitely did not place well in the tournament but that did not matter to us. We gave it our all and never stopped cheering. We still  had so much fun together and made so many great memories. I am forever grateful I got to experience such a time with those girls.

Tell us about your family. Where do you fit in, and where do you stand out?
I am the oldest between my sister and I, and our parents have been divorced since I was 7. Being the oldest, I am definitely more of the leader in the family. I try to make sure everything is put together and going well, and when it is not I fix it. Throughout my family I can say I'm the more “go getter” and always have the mentality to be outgoing and loving to everyone. I try to make sure everyone is happy and everything stays in line.

What is a favorite family tradition you hope never ends?
I hope the Christmas get-togethers never end on both sides of my family. I love being able to give to the most valuable people in my life. Getting together with my family will always be one of the greatest things as I do not get to see some of them very often. My happiest moments are when I am with my family, and I truly miss them.

Where is your favorite place to travel to and why?
My favorite place to travel will be Jackson Hole, Wyoming. There are so many beautiful sites and experiences. I got to learn more about what our world has to offer, and the amazing animals that live in the environment. I believe I enjoyed this experience so much because not only was it so much fun, but I felt as if I got something out of it. The knowledge of the outside world is incredible, and I can not wait to go on more adventures like that one.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go, who and what would you take with you - and why?
I would love to go to Thailand with my family. My family never fails to leave a smile on my face and we always have an extremely fun time together. I have always wanted to visit Thailand because of the amazing social media posts that make me want to experience it in person. Even if it is not as amazing as it looks bringing my family, I still would have an amazing time.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
Although my nomination covers key points about my personality I always like to say my motto is be brave and courageous, but throughout my experiences I have learned the most inspiring thing is being true and staying real to yourself. BE YOU! I want to inspire others to be themselves and not to let others take over who you truly are. I have been blessed to have such amazing people in my life that inspire me and I want to influence others to do the same. Always follow God the path he has for you is yours for a reason!

What else would you like to talk about?
I would like to talk about opportunities. I am so thankful I have the opportunity to fill out this form and be an "Inspiring Teen". Honestly, I feel like some people do not understand the potential opportunities they have and at times doubt themselves. If you have the opportunity, take it. Overtime I have learned, especially being a senior this year, that time goes fast and taking advantage of the opportunities around you is so important because they are definitely not there for forever. Do not worry about other people, be courageous and do what your heart desires.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I feel extremely passionate about the relationships I have built throughout my life. I cherish these because not only do these relationships help me grow, they inspire and push me to be the best, but respectfully. These relationships have inspired me and made me want to inspire others. Honestly without the relationships I have built I would not be the person I am now. Some of these people have helped pull out of the hardest situation I thought I could not survive, but here I am. Some of my goals actually include being kind enough to help someone through a hard situation as some of these people did me.

How did you find your photographer? What was your experience like? What did you love most?
I actually found my photographer, Samantha, online. Her pictures on social media are stunning and I messaged her immediately after! During our first shoot we figured out my grandfather was her Driver's Ed teacher and we had many connections. We had talked the entire time and there was most definitely not a dull moment. She made me feel confident and comfortable while taking pictures, so as you could imagine the end results were fantastic!

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to be in the Inspiring Teens Magazine because I want to show other kids my age that they are capable of anything they put their mind to. Choosing to inspire others is one of the greatest achievements for myself. I would love to give someone the confidence to be themselves and achieve their goals. Having this opportunity gives me the chance to inspire someone else through my words. I love accepting challenges and chances, so it is important that I encourage others to do the same.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
Honestly, cleaning. I am not a procrastinator, so I always have to be doing something. One of my favorite things to do is clean, especially since I am very OCD about my room. Having a fresh environment helps anxiety and relaxation. It also makes me feel confident within myself because I enjoy getting things done.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
College and the college lifestyle. I am never going to take my time in high school for granted, but I always hear amazing stories about college. I am excited to take on some more responsibilities and be more independent. Most importantly I am ready to get my future on a roll and get my degree!

What is the hardest thing you have ever accomplished, and how did you do it?
The hardest thing I have ever accomplished is my mindset in sports. It took a while for me to realize that everyone goes through slumps and It is not possible for me to just be amazing at something I just started, so I cannot get down on myself when I do not do as good as I expect myself to. It took time but I did build a more positive mindset about my performance, but now I am just grateful that I have the opportunity to do these things.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
I would tell them that things do not just happen, so take initiative and do not procrastinate. Life is what you make of it, so why not make the best of it? Also I would tell them look at all the things around you, look at how blessed you are, focus on the good things, so don't complain it does not help you anyways. Lastly, be a kindhearted person, and treat others the way you want to be treated that will get you pretty far.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
I see myself pursuing a Computer Engineering degree and having a sustainable career. I would hope by that time I am nearing financial stability, and living or looking for my own house. I  would love to see myself thriving and growing within my career! Also, I would love to be very involved with my community and help other organizations. I want to be more involved in a church so I would love to see that happen

What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination?
I love to read and run. Reading is calm and enjoyable. I learn so much when I am reading and in a peaceful environment. Running is an activity that really makes you feel good about yourself, and when I run I always view it as making myself better!

Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
I honestly do not have a hidden talent, but I would say my talent falls between golfing and cooking. I never fail to not enjoy golfing because I love the environment and I know the practice I put forth shows when I play. I also never fail to not make a good meal because I put all my attention into any meal to make it the best.

3 Things on your bucket list:
3 things on my bucket list would have to be to obtain a degree, influence more people like myself, and travel the world!

Who do you find inspiring?
I find all of my grandparents inspiring. They always push me to do my best and never fail to support me. Truthfully, they always know the most too, so I never fail to go to them for advice.

What about you inspires others/why do you think you are inspiring?
I hope my personality and mindset inspires individuals. I think I'm inspiring because of the relationships I have made and the encouragement and kind words I receive overtime from the little things.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?

I am looking forward to making the most out of my senior year with my friends and cherish every moment.

When did you start cheering and what do you love most about it?
I began cheering ever since I was little but this is my first year cheering in high school, I love the excitement I get at football games and getting closer to my friends.

Where has been your most memorable place you've traveled to and why?
The most memorable place I have traveled to is South Padre because I spend time with family I haven’t seen in a while.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, who would you take, what would you bring, where would it be and why?
I would travel to Greece and take my cousin! I have always wanted to go to Greece and take my cousin because we live in different towns so spending time with her at my dream vacation would make me so happy.
