What sports do you play? What is your favorite memory from them? My main sport is basketball and I have been playing that since I was in the 3rd grade! I have also played soccer and tennis. My favorite memory from basketball was the time my AAU team placed in the platinum bracket for our pool in one of the largest AAU tournaments in the country!
How has the COVID 19 pandemic impacted your sports seasons? Are you still able to practice? COVID-19 hasn’t affected my high school season yet since it is a winter sport, however we did have to cancel our Summer basketball schedule and cancel all of our workouts during this time. In addition, we have not been able to get in the gym to shoot or utilize the weight room on our own time.

How have you been dealing with the pandemic disrupting the beginning of your senior year and all the changes that come with that? I think the most important thing to remember during all of this is that everyone, not just seniors/students, are having to sacrifice things for the well-being of our community. Of course, I get upset when I think about the possibility of missing my last first day of school, senior homecoming and prom, senior basketball season and possibly graduation, but in the end, I am thankful for my health and my family’s health. If missing these events means that I am doing my part to help keep my community members healthy and safe, then that is rewarding in itself.
How do you balance your schoolwork and athletics? What are your tips for others trying to do the same? I balance this by just thinking about how important both are to me. The best advice I can give to others who may be possibly struggling with this is to always set designated times for each and always know what you have on your schedule between sports and school so you know that you are getting done what needs to be done. It is also important to work really hard during the school day and try to get everything finished in order to have the maximum amount of time after school to focus on your athletics.

What are some goals that you have for your future? Do you hope to play sports in college? In the future, I plan to attend college and major in biomedical sciences. With that degree, I plan on going to medical school and hopefully pursuing a career in Dermatology. One thing I pride myself in, is working hard in school and my athletics so that way I have both options when it comes to deciding what school I want to attend. I would like to play sports in college, but I know I have academics to fall back on just in case that route does not work out for me.
