Caden Cook – Texas Nomination & Photography by Lauren Cook Issue 61 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Caden has a rare chronic pain condition called AMPS - Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome. He fights chronic pain head to toe, but still finds the strength to attend school, be a part of the band, and be an athletic manager. Some days are harder than others, but he is a true warrior every day.
What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover? I have had chronic pain since I was 10 years old and I want other kids like me to know that they are never alone. Some days are harder than others to get out of bed, but this is a syndrome that you have to keep moving to keep the pain down.
What would you most like to talk about? I would like to talk about how difficult it has been for people to understand my AMPS condition. I look normal on the outside, but I have pain 24/7 that never goes away in my feet, thighs, and head.
If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why? I would let my peers know that just because a person looks normal and acts normal, doesn't mean they aren't fighting a health condition. We need to always be nice to each other and help each other when we can because we never know what someone is going through.
