Emma Shields – Missouri Nomination & Photography by Cara Hill Photography Issue 52 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Emma Shields is an inspiration to all because she is motivated to achieve all her goals and is firm in her morals. Emma is unstoppable because she is courageous through adverse circumstances. In her athletic career, Emma has had two knee surgeries. Those injuries required her to put in hard work mentally and physically. She has a strong will that lets her take the first step towards amazing adventures. In her community she has volunteered at local blood drives and the nursing home. Emma is also inspirational in her academic successes remaining in the top 2% of her class. We are so proud of Emma!
What could you talk for every about? I could talk forever about my new passion for radiologic sciences. Over the summer, I attended a healthcare camp at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy and was inspired to pursue a career in the healthcare field. One of the professors, Dr. Katherine Push, said, “I always want to remind myself to never forget when that lightbulb moment went off for me.” After hearing these empowering words, I made it a goal to find a career that gets my heart racing. I plan to attend Arkansas State University to study Radiation Therapy to help treat cancer patients.
What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover? More inspirational aspects that my nomination does not cover include my ability to make everyone feel involved. I make it a priority to make sure everyone I meet feels loved and appreciated so they can grow in self-confidence. I also believe at school I have created a reputation of being approachable to underclassmen that are on my sports teams, in my classes, and at club events. They all look up to me as a leader that can answer their questions and use me for guidance.
If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why? I feel most passionate about presenting my faith in front of my peers. Sharing my testimony with my friends is important because it shapes my life. At my school, I gave a message at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting. I explained my struggle with self-worth, but how God’s love saved me through my dark time. I read my favorite verse 1st Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” Students were touched by this verse and my walk with God. I loved making a life-changing impact on my classmates' lives.
