Nomination: Brooke is a freshman at Watauga High school and the starting catcher for the JV softball team. Brooke is from a generational military family which has provided the foundation for being a team player while having a deep appreciation and understanding for the true meaning of sacrifice. Brooke’s dedication to academics is evident by maintaining A’s and B’s despite it being an area that she has faced many challenges. In addition to school and sports, she volunteers with youth camps, church, and hurricane relief efforts after Helene. Brooke plans to become a registered nurse after high school and continue her passion of advocating for marginalized individual's.
What inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you were not mentioned in your nomination that you’d like readers to know about?
I try to inspire others around me by following the golden rule of treating others how you want to be treated. I feel it’s important to value others and show them that you care. A small gesture can go a long way. I am also proud to be the recipient of The Daughters of the American Revolution Award which is a student that demonstrates dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now?
My long term goal is to become an ER nurse. Short term I am focusing on my dedication to becoming a better catcher in softball by working daily at practice and working with my awesome catching coach, Kaylee.
What is something you feel passionate about or could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you?
Softball. The reason it matters so much to me is because I have worked so hard to be good at it not just for myself but for my team and my family.
What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or person in the past year?
I have learned that when my peers are not treating me kind that I have to maintain self control and still treat them with respect but also stand up for what I think is right. How you act in the moment of heated discussions or interactions make a difference.
How did you find your photographer, and what did you enjoy most about your experience working with them?
Waugh2Waugh was picked by the softball team at my school. What I enjoyed the most was how nice the photographer was and how easy the session was. We laughed the entire session and it was an enjoyable experience. The pictures also looked really cool.
What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you?
Something that means a lot to me is that my mom always tells me to do my best and that I can do anything that I set my mind to. My mom is an inspiration to me because when life was hard and people thought she couldn’t accomplish her dreams, she did and she became a nurse practitioner. My mom is also the person that inspired me to go into the nursing profession.
How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you?
I heard about the magazine when the photographer that took the picture called my mom and told her that I was the daily winner for the magazine. Being a part of Inspiring Teens is important to me because what I say in my questions could help to inspire another person trying to accomplish their dreams. It would also be cool to have colleges that can see my motivation for softball.
If you win a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine, how would you plan to use it and what goals would it help support?
If I win the scholarship it would help me to accomplish my dreams of being a nurse. My dream is to attend the University of Alabama. My dad is from Alabama and I love their softball team.
