  • Kylin Blanck: A Dedicated Student-Athlete and Inspiring Team Leader

Kylin Blanck - Minnesota Nomination & Photography by Erinn Letts Photos Issue 106 of Inspiring Teens Magazine Nomination: Kylin Blanck’s warm-hearted soul shines through her eyes the moment you meet her. As captain of both her soccer and basketball teams, Kylin has learned that leadership isn’t about being the loudest voice, but about bringing out the best in others. She encourages teammates through losses, celebrates their achievements, and makes sure everyone feels like they’re part of the team. That same drive carries into the classroom, where she challenges herself with college and PSEO courses. Her warm, supportive energy lets everyone around her know they matter and to believe in themselves as much as she believes in them. What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about? Family has always been a huge part of my life. I am very family-oriented, and the support I have received from them over the years has helped shape me into the person I am today. They have taught me the importance of showing up for those you love and appreciating the relationships around you. Those are values I carry with me in everything I do. What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? Besides focusing on finishing my senior year, I am currently working towards figuring out the next chapter in life. Things such as where I want to go to college and what I see myself doing in the future have definitely been on my mind. I’m interested in becoming a pediatric registered nurse. I say that because I have always enjoyed working with children, and I want to make a meaningful difference in others’ lives. What could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you? One thing I could talk about for hours is growing up and how strange it feels to be at this point in my life. For so long, the year 2027 felt so far away, almost fake, but now, as I enter into my senior year of high school, that year is right around the corner. I have never experienced such a bittersweet feeling before. It’s exciting that I have such an amazing opportunity, but at the same time, strange realizing how quickly everything changes. What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? I have learned that being a leader doesn’t mean being perfect. Though many people may look up to you as a leader, that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a bad day or make mistakes. Everyone is human and learning as they go. What matters to me most is being someone others can count on, even when I’m still learning too. This past year has taught me to be confident in myself and trust that I make a difference for others in the way I show up. What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you? The person who nominated me was my photographer, Erinn Letts. Looking back at my session, the most memorable moment was her constantly hyping me up behind the camera. She made me feel confident in every pose and always knew what to say to make me laugh. I remember feeling so comfortable in that session because of how encouraging she was. Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like? I first connected with Erinn after seeing some of her work and loving the style of her photos. Immediately, I knew that I wanted pictures like that for myself, so I reached out to her using her website, and we set up a date for my session. The entire experience was amazing from start to finish, and the day felt so easy as well as enjoyable. In the end, I loved how everything came together, and I am so grateful for her. How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? I first heard about Inspiring Teens Magazine through my photographer, Erinn. Being a part of this is very important to me because it gives me an opportunity to showcase who I am and what I value. With that, it is very meaningful to be a part of something that recognizes teens for more than just one accomplishment. How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you? Earning a scholarship would help me as I prepare for college and work towards my future. It would help take off some of the financial pressure of continuing my education, allowing me to focus more on pursuing my goals. • Grace Galan: An Inspiring Teen with a Passion for Pediatrics and Community Service

Grace Galan Nomination by Christina Galan Photography by Faith Photography Issue 106 of Inspiring Teens Magazine Nomination: Grace Galan is an amazing daughter, sister and friend. She leads with a kind heart by volunteering and helping others in need. She enjoys volunteering with her school and National Charity League. Her hope is to continue to give back to her community as she wants to work in pediatrics. What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about? One thing I would want readers to know about me is that I am always willing to try something new, even when I am not sure I will be good at it right away. I have learned to be comfortable being challenged and asking questions when I do not understand something. Whether it is taking difficult science classes, balancing cheer with school and service, or stepping into new leadership roles, I try not to let the fear of failing keep me from trying. I am proud of the person I am becoming because I have learned that growth does not always come from being the best at something. Sometimes it comes from simply being willing to keep going. What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? Right now, I am working toward my goal of becoming a pediatrician. My experiences shadowing and interning with healthcare providers have made me realize that medicine is about much more than treating an illness. I want to become a doctor who makes children and their families feel heard, especially families who may have difficulty accessing healthcare. I am also working toward college and challenging myself academically so I can build a strong foundation for studying biochemistry and eventually medicine. I know the path will be difficult, but I am excited about the opportunity to keep learning and eventually use what I learn to help others. What could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you? I could talk about pediatrics and the human body for hours. I am fascinated by how something happening on a microscopic level can affect an entire person. My interest in medicine grew through shadowing and interning at Community Health Alliance, where I got to see how doctors interact with patients and families. What matters most to me is the human side of medicine. Every patient has a different story, and I want to understand the person behind the symptoms. That is one of the reasons I hope to become a pediatrician. Children cannot always explain exactly what they are feeling, so doctors have to listen carefully, pay attention, and understand each child as an individual. What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? Over the past year, I have learned that being a leader does not always mean being the person in front. Through cheer, school, and service, I have learned that leadership can be as simple as being someone others can rely on. Sometimes that means helping someone who is struggling, accepting correction, staying positive when things do not go as planned, or doing something that needs to be done without being asked. I have realized that people notice consistency. I want to be the kind of leader who makes the people around me feel supported and knows that leadership is more about what I do than what title I have. What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you? My mom nominated me, which makes this experience especially meaningful to me. She has always been one of my biggest supporters and has encouraged me to work hard, try new things, and pursue my goals. One of the things I appreciate most about her is that she believes in me even when I doubt myself. I am grateful for everything she has done to help me become the person I am today, and having her nominate me makes this opportunity even more special. Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like? I met my photographer through my best friend’s family. Since we already had that connection, the experience felt comfortable and easy instead of feeling like I was meeting a complete stranger. I really enjoyed getting to know her better and having someone capture this part of my life. I am grateful that my best friend’s family helped connect us and gave me the opportunity to have these photos taken. How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? I first heard about Inspiring Teens Magazine through the person who nominated me. Being part of the magazine is meaningful to me because it gives me the opportunity to share parts of my story and the experiences that have shaped me. As a student, it can sometimes feel like everything is about grades, accomplishments, and what comes next. I like that Inspiring Teens recognizes the person behind those accomplishments. Being included would be an opportunity to celebrate the people and experiences that have helped me grow while also hopefully inspiring another student to believe in themselves. How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you? Earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine would help me as I begin the next step of my education. I plan to attend college and pursue a path toward becoming a pediatrician, so there will be many years of education ahead of me. Any scholarship support would help with the cost of college and allow me to focus more on my education, experiences, and service. More than the financial support, I would also be grateful to know that someone believes in my goals and the work I am putting toward them. That encouragement would mean a lot as I begin this next chapter. Look for Grace in issue 106 of Inspiring Teens Magazine! * Interviews are shared in the teen’s own words so their authentic voice shines through.

I stay pretty active and involved at school. In my free time I enjoy painting, listening to music and am an avid Disney fan. What inspired you to take on leadership roles in organizations like the National Art Honor Society and FFA? I was inspired to take leadership roles because of the leaders I had the ability to work with and look up to. The leaders who came before me showed me what it is to be a good leader, and that alone inspired me to become one. I also have deep passions for both art and agriculture which helps me be able to be a passionate and determined leader in both organizations. What does being a National Morgan's Message ambassador mean to you, and how do you hope to make a difference through that role? As someone who is an athlete who has struggled with mental health challenges in the past and continues to struggle with things like anxiety, being able to be an ambassador for a program who has done so much to end the stigma around mental health, especially in athletes, is so important to me. I hope to continue Morgan's message to end the stigma and make the conversation surrounding mental health more widespread. I want to be someone that people know doesn’t judge them because of their own battles. What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? My sights are set on college. I’ve always been inspired by Disney, so if I got the chance to combine my other interests like art or agriculture it would be a dream come true. I would be so excited to bring important things in my life into a place that is so important to me. What skills or experiences are you hoping to gain in college that will help you turn your passion into a career? I want the experience of learning more about the industries I would like to go into to be my focus. Knowing what it takes to make it in these industries or career paths I think is so important for success, even if down the road I don’t fit into the stereotypical mold, I would like to gain all of the knowledge and skills you need to make it far. I would love to also further my skills in art. Being able to work with more mediums and more types of subjects is something I strive to do. If I'm able to gain those skills it would help so much. I have grown up loving Disney and history I can absolutely tell you random facts for hours on hours. Finally, agriculture in the past year has given me a new appreciation for the hard work put into the industry, so much that I found myself beginning to work in the AG industry. It has taught me so much about myself over the last year and I could talk about that for hours, because it has become extremely important to me. So much so that I started my first job, working on a flower farm, this last Spring. How has working on a flower farm changed the way you view agriculture and the people who work in the industry? Working on a flower farm taught me so much about the floral industry and everyone who works in it. Learning more about the industry and all that goes into it helped me gain a respect for agriculture and those who dedicate their lives working in it. I’ve also learned this through FFA and getting to meet people in the industry and learning what they all do and how much time and effort goes into it gave me an appreciation for agriculture that I didn't have before. What is one piece of art you have created that holds special meaning for you, and what inspired it? An art piece I've made that holds special meaning was the piece that I made for freedom 250 competition. Walt Disney throughout my life has been a big inspiration to me and Disney World has been a place that my family has shared so many memories with. Having a big family that has lived and served overseas, Disney World is a place we can always meet up and share memories with even when for the majority of the year we can’t be together. How did winning the Freedom 250 Art Competition impact your confidence in your creativity and artistic abilities? Being recognized for such a big award gave me a confidence boost I needed. It made me realize that other people see the beauty and effort I put into my art. Sometimes as an artist you can doubt your own abilities but winning this award gave me confidence and showed me that people really do appreciate my art. If you could create an art project or experience at Disney that combined your interests in art, history, and agriculture, what would it look like? I would love to help create some fun floral pieces for the parks. Epcot has a Garden Festival ad an Art Festival ad being a part of both or either would be a dream come true. Florals, art and beauty all combined. What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? Over the past years my leadership has flourished as I've been involved with NAHS and FFA. I've gotten to learn about how I am as a leader and how I can best use my skills to help guide others. Leading and creating are a highlight for me. How do you balance your leadership responsibilities, varsity volleyball, schoolwork, and personal interests while still making time for yourself? It takes a lot, I spend a lot of late nights finishing work after activities or games. I’ve learned to balance it all through time management and choosing what I do wisely. I don’t waste my free time. I'm typically always doing something that helps with something I do. I make time for myself often by spending time with my friends even though I enjoy my down time alone, having time with my friends helps me be able to relax and have fun. Where is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today? I would LOVE to be a Disney fine artist. I know I have a lot of work to do to get there, but that would be my dream job. What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you? Jamie is a pillar in our small town community. She has always stood for parental rights in education and providing excellent education for the students of Fauquier County. Jamie stands by her truths and values. I hope to be half of the mother and community member she is one day. What values have you learned from the important women and mentors in your life that you hope to carry into your own future? I hope to stand strong and carry my beliefs so the women in my life don’t back down on their beliefs and opinions. I hope to carry that with me. I want to be as confident and sure in myself and beliefs as the women in my life are. People like my mom are my biggest inspirations, they constantly push me to be myself and strive for success. Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like? Jamie also took my pictures. Her and my mom met in 2020 and have become great friends. I love watching her as a business owner and mother. She made the experience so fun and took the fear away. Posing can be awkward, but not with Jamie's guidance. How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? I had not heard of it until my nomination. I am excited to hopefully show that being a good student and hard worker is just as if not more important than a beautiful picture. What advice would you give another teen who has a creative passion but is nervous about sharing their work or putting themselves out there? I would say just do it. The biggest thing for me was just putting myself out there. As an artist you have to be willing to take criticism. You have to learn how to take it and move on. Take the positive feedback and use the negative. Not all negative criticism or feedback is necessarily bad; it has been some of the criticism that has pushed me harder and more toward my goals. Overtime the nerves will vanish. How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you? College isn't cheap. My mom sacrificed a career to stay home and raise my brother and I. She has run small business and worked in our school system but we practically run on a single income. My dad has a wonderful career but the cost of college is daunting. Any help I can give with scholarships I know will make it easier on my parents. What made you say “yes” to the Inspiring Teens challenge, and how did you feel when you first started? I felt nervous but as the challenge kept going, I gained more confidence and I’ve enjoyed getting to take part. I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I have but so many people ask me about it and are so supportive, which helps a lot. What is one moment during the challenge so far that has made you feel proud or realize you were growing - in confidence, mindset, or taking action? When I got my vote count after day 1 and it was already so high, I for sure gained a lot of confidence then. I wasn’t expecting to do so well of the get-go. If another teen is thinking about joining the Inspiring Teens Magazine Leadership Challenge but feels unsure, what would you tell them? I would tell them to do it, I’ve enjoyed the experience so much and I hope more teens get the chance to experience this. Beyond votes or placements, what are you hoping to gain from this experience—and what would make you feel truly successful at the end? Confidence in myself is the thing I hope to get out of this beyond placement and votes. Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you get where you are today? My parents. They’ve helped me get to where I’m at today and I couldn’t have done any of it without them. Look for Sadie in issue 106 of Inspiring Teens Magazine! * Interviews are shared in the teen’s own words so their authentic voice shines through.

One thing I would like readers to know about me is how much I value serving others, even when I do not receive recognition for it. I have had opportunities to serve through church, school, and my community, including being a table leader at church camp, helping with younger children, volunteering at food and clothing drives, and participating in Operation Christmas Child. These experiences have taught me that making a difference does not always require doing something big. Sometimes, simply being willing to listen, encourage someone, or lend a helping hand can have a lasting impact. My faith has also played an important role in shaping the way I treat others and reminding me to lead with kindness, humility, and compassion.I would also like readers to know that I have been involved in Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) for three years and am a second-year Diamond Doll member. My experiences have taught me that helping others does not always require doing something big. Sometimes, it is simply taking the time to listen, make someone feel included, or offer a helping hand. Through church, school activities, and volunteering, I have learned the importance of being compassionate, dependable, and willing to serve wherever I am needed. Working with younger children through gymnastics coaching, church activities, and being a church camp table leader has taught me patience, responsibility, and the importance of being a positive role model. I have learned that children need people who will listen to them, encourage them, and make them feel valued. These experiences have strengthened my desire to become someone children can trust, especially during difficult or unfamiliar situations. They have also helped me realize how much I enjoy building relationships with children and watching them grow. What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? I would also like readers to know that I have been involved in Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) for three years and am a second-year Diamond Doll member. Being involved in these organizations has given me opportunities to support positive choices, build relationships within my school, and become more involved in my community. Along with my volunteer experiences through church and school, these activities have helped me grow into someone who values service, responsibility, and encouraging others.Right now, I am working toward becoming the best version of myself academically, personally, and through serving others. As a junior in the Medical Academy, I am working toward my dream of becoming a pediatric nurse and eventually traveling to care for children in different communities. I am also focused on challenging myself academically through advanced and AP classes while gaining experiences that will prepare me for college and a career in healthcare. Outside of school, I am involved in activities and service opportunities that allow me to encourage and help others. Ultimately, my goal is to use my career, education, and relationships with others to make a positive difference in the lives of children and the people around me. What inspired you to pursue pediatric nursing, and what excites you most about the opportunity to care for children? Learning how many children do not have access to proper healthcare really touched my heart and made me want to help. It made me realize that something many people take for granted is not always available to everyone. I want to be part of making a difference by helping children receive the care and support they deserve. What excites me most about pediatric nursing is the opportunity to care for children when they need it most, comfort them when they are scared, and help families through difficult situations. I hope to become the kind of nurse who makes every child feel safe, valued, and cared for. You hope to travel to care for children in different communities. What motivates you to pursue this goal, and what impact do you hope to make? I want to travel as a nurse because I hope to help children in different communities, especially those who may not have easy access to healthcare. Knowing that so many children need medical care motivates me to pursue a career where I can make a difference wherever I am needed. I would love to learn about different communities, meet new people, and use my skills to serve others. My goal is to help children receive the care they deserve and leave every community knowing that I made a positive impact, even if it was in a small way. Where is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today? My ideal dream job would be working as a pediatric nurse anywhere I could make a difference in children's lives. I do not have one specific hospital or location in mind because what matters most to me is being able to help. Whether that means working at a children's hospital, serving an underserved community, or traveling to provide care where it is needed, I want a job that allows me to use my passion for nursing to help children. My biggest goal is to make sure the children I care for feel safe, supported, and loved. How do you balance your academic responsibilities, extracurricular activities, and volunteer work while continuing to work toward your future goals? Balancing everything requires organization, commitment, and learning how to prioritize. Between my advanced classes, the Medical Academy, band, track, school activities, church, and volunteering, I have learned that I have to be intentional with my time. I try to stay on top of my assignments, plan ahead, and remember why I work hard. My goal of becoming a pediatric nurse motivates me to challenge myself academically while continuing to make time for the activities, relationships, and service opportunities that are important to me. What could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you? I could talk about working with children and helping others for hours. I have always enjoyed being around kids, whether it was through babysitting, coaching younger children, serving at church, or helping students at school. I love seeing how even small acts of kindness can make someone feel supported and confident. This matters so much to me because I hope to become a pediatric nurse one day, and I want my career to be more than just a job—I want to make children and their families feel cared for during some of their hardest moments. What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? I have learned that by being a leader I do not worry about what others think and that I have become more involved in school clubs and events. I have also learned that I try my best to help others who need something or I check in on them to see if they need anything or would like to talk. Can you share a time when you encouraged someone who was struggling or helped them feel included, and what that experience taught you? One experience that really shaped me was being a Tiger Buddy in middle school, where I spent time with students with special needs. That experience taught me that everyone needs a friend and that a little kindness can help someone feel included and valued. Being a church camp table leader has also shown me how meaningful those relationships can become. I have built relationships with kids at my table, and many of them still talk to me today. Knowing that my words and kindness have made an impact on them means so much to me. These experiences have taught me that leadership is not always about being in charge; sometimes, it is simply showing someone that they matter and that they have someone in their corner. How has becoming more confident in yourself helped you take on new leadership opportunities or step outside your comfort zone? As I have grown, I have become more willing to try new things, take on responsibilities, and build relationships with people I might not have known otherwise. Being a Tiger Buddy helped me understand the importance of reaching out to others and making sure people feel included. Becoming a church camp table leader has helped me grow in my ability to connect with younger kids, encourage them, and build relationships that last beyond camp. Seeing that some of those kids still talk to me today reminds me that I can make a difference through my words and actions. These experiences have helped me realize that confidence is not about being perfect or never feeling nervous; it is about being willing to step up, care for others, and trust that I have something meaningful to offer. What role does your faith play in the way you lead, serve others, and make decisions? My faith is an important part of who I am and influences how I try to treat others. It reminds me to lead with humility, show compassion, and serve people without expecting anything in return. I want my actions to reflect the love and kindness that God has shown me. My faith also guides my decisions and reminds me that success is not just about personal achievements, but about the difference I make in the lives of others. As I work toward becoming a nurse, I hope to carry those values into every relationship and every opportunity I have to serve. What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you? The person who sent in my nomination was my mom. One of my favorite things about my relationship with my mom is all the girls’ days we get to have together. Whether we are shopping, getting food, running errands, or simply hanging out and talking, I always enjoy the time we get to spend together. I’m grateful that she is someone I can laugh with, talk to, and make memories with. It’s the simple moments together that mean the most to me. What is one lesson your mom has taught you that you hope to carry with you into college and your future career? One of the biggest lessons my mom has taught me is that I do not need other people's approval to know my worth. She has taught me that if someone says something about me, I do not have to take it to heart or let it define me. Instead, I can learn from the experience, grow through it, and keep becoming the person I want to be. She has also taught me that I do not have to be liked by everyone, and that is okay. As I go into college and eventually my career, I want to remember to stay true to myself, be confident in who I am, and focus on the difference I can make rather than worrying about what everyone else thinks. Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like? I am in Maia's junior model group and when I first met her she was really funny and smiling a lot and shes is super encouraging and it was like my self esteem was boosted with her pictures and her complements. How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? I first heard about it through Maia with one of her models being nominated. Being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matters to me because it would give me an opportunity to share my experiences, encourage other teenagers, and grow as a leader. I want to be someone who inspires others to step outside of their comfort zone, get involved, and make a positive difference in their community. Being recognized by Inspiring Teens Magazine would also be meaningful to me because it would remind me that the time I have spent serving others and working toward my goals can make an impact. What advice would you give to another teenager who wants to get involved in their school or community but feels nervous about taking that first step? My advice would be to start small and not let fear keep you from trying something new. You do not have to be the most outgoing or confident person in the room to make a difference. Some of the best opportunities come from simply saying yes, showing up, and being willing to learn. You never know who you might meet, what you might learn, or whose life you might impact. Even if you feel nervous at first, give yourself the chance to grow. Sometimes, stepping outside your comfort zone leads you to experiences that shape who you become. How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you? Earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine would help me reach my goals of attending college and pursuing a career in pediatric nursing. College can be expensive, so receiving financial support would help reduce some of the cost and allow me to focus more on my education and gaining experience in the medical field. It would also encourage me to continue working hard, serving others, and pursuing opportunities that help me grow as a student and leader. What made you say “yes” to the Inspiring Teens challenge, and how did you feel when you first started? I said yes to the Inspiring Teens Leadership Challenge because I wanted to challenge myself, grow as a leader, and become more confident in sharing my story. I also saw it as an opportunity to represent the values that are important to me, including faith, service, and helping others. At first, it felt exciting but also a little intimidating because it pushed me outside my comfort zone. However, I knew that growth often comes from doing things that feel unfamiliar, and I wanted to give myself the opportunity to learn more about myself and what I am capable of. What is one moment during the challenge so far that has made you feel proud or realize you were growing—in confidence, mindset, or taking action? One thing that has made me proud is realizing that I am willing to put myself out there and pursue opportunities that align with my goals. Taking part in this challenge has encouraged me to think more intentionally about the kind of leader I want to become and the impact I hope to make. It has reminded me that growth does not always happen in one big moment. Sometimes, it is recognizing that you are becoming more confident, more willing to take chances, and more comfortable using your voice to encourage others. If another teen is thinking about joining the Inspiring Teens Magazine Leadership Challenge but feels unsure, what would you tell them? I would tell them to go for it! It is easy to talk yourself out of an opportunity because you are worried about what other people might think or whether you are good enough. But you do not have to have everything figured out to get started. Challenges like this can help you discover strengths you did not know you had, meet new people, and grow in ways you might not expect. Do not let being nervous or worrying about other people's opinions stop you from doing something that could help you become a more confident version of yourself. Beyond votes or placements, what are you hoping to gain from this experience—and what would make you feel truly successful at the end? Beyond votes or placements, I hope to grow in confidence, develop my leadership skills, and inspire other teens to get involved in their schools and communities. I want to learn more about myself and become even more intentional about using my opportunities to help others. I would feel truly successful if this experience helped me grow as a person, encouraged someone else to step outside their comfort zone, or reminded someone that they have something valuable to offer. To me, success is not just about recognition or winning; it is about the impact you make and the person you become along the way. Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you get where you are today? I would like to thank my mom and dad for supporting me, encouraging me, and helping me become the person I am today. I am also grateful for my family, friends, teachers, coaches, and church leaders who have encouraged me to grow, try new things, and use my abilities to help others. Most importantly, I thank God for the opportunities He has given me and the people He has placed in my life. I would not be where I am today without the love, encouragement, and guidance of the people around me. Is there anything else you'd like to tell us? I am excited to continue growing as a leader, serving my community, and working toward my dream of becoming a pediatric nurse. Learning about the children who lack access to proper healthcare has strengthened my desire to make a difference wherever I can. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I hope to keep challenging myself and taking opportunities that help me grow. I want to be someone who makes others feel valued, encourages people to believe in themselves, and uses her talents to help others. No matter where my future takes me, I hope to carry my faith, compassion, and desire to serve with me. • McKinley White: Faith, Leadership & a Dream to Become a UT Majorette

McKinley White – Tennessee Nomination by Michelle White Photography by Rural Southern Photography Issue 106 of Inspiring Teens Magazine Nomination: McKinley is an exceptional teenager who doesn’t simply participate—she leads, organizes, finds solutions, and makes everything she touches better. She recently revived her school’s Teen Board induction ceremony, collaborating with peers to create a meaningful experience for young teens seeking belonging. She is a dancer, competitive baton twirler, and strong student who loves the Lord and intentionally includes others. Having experienced anxiety, she has worked hard to develop tools to overcome challenges and remain actively involved. She hopes to attend the University of Tennessee, pursue business and law, and ultimately build a career in legal cybersecurity. She also plans to try out for Pride of the Southland Majorette. She has been selected 5x as a top 10 twirler from their summer camp and recently performed halftime at their season opener it was truly an honor for her to perform with such an amazing program! McKinley White – Tennessee | Photography by Rural Southern Photography What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about? Alongside my co-president, I help organize community service projects for our club. This has been one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences of my high school career. Through Teenboard, I have accumulated over 450 hours of community service and had the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in my community. I was also selected to represent my club as a Teenboard of Knoxville Presentee, which has been a personal goal of mine for a very long time. Of the more than 450 hours you’ve dedicated to community service, is there one experience that particularly changed your perspective or made a lasting impact on you? One experience that made a lasting impact on me was volunteering at Isaiah 117 House. That day opened my eyes to how much good you can do simply by giving your time and energy to help others. I genuinely enjoyed helping them clean, and it reminded me that even the simplest acts of service can make a difference. It made me even more grateful for the opportunities I have through Teenboard to serve my community and showed me how rewarding it is to give back. You helped organize your school’s Teenboard induction ceremony. What inspired you to create it, and what did you learn? My co-president, Hannah, and I realized our club needed an induction ceremony, so we decided to create one for our new members. We wanted them to feel welcomed, celebrated, and appreciated as they joined Teenboard. Through organizing the event, I learned that even a small gesture can go a long way in making someone feel special. Leadership is not always about doing something huge; sometimes, it is simply recognizing a need and taking the initiative to make someone’s experience better. I am proud we created something meaningful for our club! What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? I am currently working toward my goal of becoming a University of Tennessee Majorette. Between dance and baton, I practice approximately 34 hours a week, dedicating countless hours to improving my skills, growing as a performer, and pushing myself closer to achieving this lifelong dream. All while balancing college-level classes at my high school and maintaining straight A’s, I have learned the importance of discipline, time management, and perseverance as I continue working toward my academic and athletic goals. What was it like stepping onto the field at Neyland Stadium to perform during halftime? There are truly no words that can describe that experience. I have grown up volunteering at the University of Tennessee and watching former majorettes perform on that field, so finally stepping onto Neyland Stadium myself was surreal. It was incredible to experience a place I have admired for so long. Performing there strengthened my determination to become a University of Tennessee Majorette and reminded me why I dedicate so much time to dance and baton. It made my dream feel even more real and motivated me to work harder than ever! With approximately 34 hours of dance and baton practice each week while maintaining straight A’s, what strategies help you stay organized, motivated, and balanced? One of the most important things I have learned is to not worry about something until you get there. With approximately 34 hours of dance and baton practice each week, along with college-level classes and other responsibilities, it is easy to become overwhelmed. I have learned to enjoy the moment I am in and focus on the assignment, game, or performance in front of me. When the future comes, I will focus on it then. My faith also helps me trust that the Lord will guide me through whatever comes next. You’re interested in pursuing business and law with a future in legal cybersecurity. What sparked your interest in this career path? Honestly, my biggest goal is to help others. My interest in legal cybersecurity began after I met a little boy at the beach who introduced me to his parents, who worked in this field. After meeting them, I immediately knew it was what I wanted to pursue. It is amazing how the Lord can use even the smallest interactions to guide your future. I hope to combine business and law to help protect companies from cyber threats and scams. This experience reminded me that God can place opportunities in our lives in ways we never expect. Where is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today? My ideal dream job would be working as a cybersecurity and data privacy attorney. I would love to combine my interests in business and law while helping protect companies and the people who depend on them. I hope to build a career where I can solve problems, continue learning, and make a meaningful difference while staying true to my values and faith. What could you talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you? I could talk for hours about my relationship with the Lord and how important my faith is to me. I truly would not be where I am today without Him and His unwavering faithfulness. My relationship with Christ has shaped who I am, guided me through challenges, and continues to give me strength and purpose in everything I do. Can you share a moment when your faith helped you overcome a difficult situation or gave you the courage to keep pursuing something important to you? My faith helps me through difficult situations every day, but I especially feel its importance before performances. My dance team has a tradition of praying together before every performance, and I will never forget praying before the performance that ultimately brought us our state title. We prayed that the Lord would stay with us, help us have fun, and keep everyone safe. He truly did so much more than we could have imagined. That experience reminded me of the importance of trusting Him and keeping God at the center of everything I do. Your nomination mentions that you’ve worked hard to manage anxiety while continuing to pursue your goals. What advice would you give other teens facing similar challenges? My biggest advice is to find your people and remember that quality matters more than quantity in friendships. I am so thankful for my close friends who genuinely support me, care about me, and encourage me through challenges. Having a strong support system is so important, especially when life feels overwhelming. You do not have to change who you are to find those friendships because true friends will love you for exactly who you are. I have learned how valuable it is to surround yourself with people who encourage you and bring positivity into your life. What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? As a leader this past year, I have learned the importance of showing grace, compassion, and understanding toward others. Everyone has different experiences and faces challenges that may not always be visible, including myself. This has taught me to be more patient, less judgmental, and more intentional about supporting those around me. I want to use my leadership to make others feel valued, encouraged, and supported in any way I can. How do you encourage other teens to feel included and confident, especially those who may be struggling to find where they belong? I encourage other teens by reminding them to stay true to themselves and their values. Being a high school girl can be difficult when there is so much pressure to fit in and follow what everyone else is doing. However, you have to be willing to go against the current when something does not align with your morals or values. You should never have to compromise who you are just to belong. I want others to know that the right people will appreciate them for who they truly are. What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you? One of my favorite experiences with my mom was watching her reaction when I stepped onto the field at Neyland Stadium for the very first time as a Top 10 Twirler. Since she was a University of Tennessee Majorette when she was in college, that moment was especially meaningful to both of us. Seeing how proud she was made the experience even more special, and it is a memory I will always cherish. What has your mom taught you about pursuing your dreams, and how has sharing a passion for baton twirling strengthened your relationship? My mom has taught me to always try my hardest for myself and to keep pushing even when it feels like there is nowhere else to go. Her faith has shown me the importance of trusting God and keeping Him at the center of everything I do. Sharing a passion for baton twirling makes my dream of becoming a University of Tennessee Majorette especially meaningful because she was a majorette there herself. Seeing her support and excitement when I perform makes those moments even more special. I am so grateful to have her example as I continue pursuing my dreams. Tell us about the person who took your photo. How did you connect, and what was that experience like? The person who took my photo was Kasey Stringfield with Rural Southern Photography. Kasey is so much more than a photographer to me; she is a friend, role model, and supporter. Every time I step in front of her camera, she makes me feel loved and seen, and that is exactly how she captures everyone she photographs. I found Kasey through the Rural Southern Belle Senior Representative Program, which not only introduced me to her but also brought some of the friendships I cherish most into my life. I am so thankful to be part of her team and for the love, encouragement, and memories she has given me. Tell us about the Rural Southern Belle Senior Representative Program. Wow, I honestly have no words to describe how much this program has meant to me! So many people encouraged me to apply, and I was not sure it would be worth it, but I could not have been more wrong. I have found a family, team, and sisterhood through this program. Kasey is so much more than a photographer; she makes sure you feel seen, valued, and beautiful in front of her camera. I encourage everyone to check her out and book a session because you are getting more than beautiful photos. You are getting someone who genuinely cares about capturing these important moments for you! How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of it matter to you? I have followed Inspiring Teens Magazine for quite some time, and I have often wondered if I would ever be fortunate enough to be featured in one of their issues. I deeply admire their mission of recognizing and celebrating teens who are making a difference in their communities. How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you? Earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine would help me take another step toward becoming the inspiring woman I hope to be. I plan to attend the University of Tennessee in the fall, where I hope to continue growing as a leader, serving others, and making an impact even greater than I imagined in high school. This scholarship would help support my educational goals and allow me to focus on making the most of the opportunities ahead. I am excited to see where this next chapter takes me and how I can continue inspiring others along the way. What made you say yes to the Inspiring Teens Challenge, and how did you feel when you first started? I said yes to the Inspiring Teens Challenge because I am always up for a challenge and an opportunity to try something new! When I first started, I was not entirely sure what I was getting myself into, but I am so thankful I kept going. This experience has given me the opportunity to reflect on my accomplishments and challenge myself in a new way. Sometimes, you have to step into something unfamiliar to discover what you can gain from it! What is one moment during the challenge that made you feel proud or realize you were growing? One moment that made me especially proud was putting together the list of my accomplishments. I sometimes get so focused on my next goal that I forget to look back at how far I have come. Seeing everything written out reminded me of how much time, effort, and dedication I have put into my goals throughout high school. It also made me grateful for the opportunities I have been blessed with and the people who have supported me along the way. If another teen is thinking about joining the Inspiring Teens Magazine Leadership Challenge but feels unsure, what would you tell them? I would tell them to do it anyway! It is always good to step outside your comfort zone and experience something new. You may not know exactly what to expect at first, but that is part of the experience. You do not have to have everything figured out before taking the first step. Be willing to challenge yourself, learn along the way, and make the most of the opportunities that come your way! Beyond votes or placements, what are you hoping to gain from this experience? Beyond votes or placements, I hope to inspire someone else to keep going when things get hard. I want my story to remind other teens that they can continue pursuing their goals even when the journey is not easy. More than anything, I hope to use this opportunity to lead others toward the Lord and encourage them in their faith. If someone is inspired to trust God, stay true to their values, or keep working toward a dream because of my story, I would consider that a success. Earning a scholarship would be an incredible blessing, too! Is there anyone you’d like to thank for helping you get where you are today? I would especially like to thank my community for allowing me to represent you in so many different ways and always showing up for me when it matters most. Whether it is voting, donating, supporting my activities, or simply showing up, I am truly so thankful. It means more than you know to have people who believe in me and encourage me as I pursue my goals. I would not be where I am today without the love and support of my community, and I never want to take that for granted! Is there anything else you’d like to tell us? I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to share my story and be part of this experience! Awards and Achievements by McKinley White 1. She serves as Captain of the Varsity Soccer Team, President of Student Council, and HOSA Secretary, while also participating in Varsity Cheer. She is involved in National Honor Society, National Charity League, and Symphony Debutantes. Addison plans to pursue a degree in Biology and a career in dentistry. She is active in her church youth group and hopes to become fluent in ASL to serve as an interpreter during church services and events. What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about? I love to volunteer and serve my community. My favorite organization to serve is Meals on Wheels. I love getting to meet the clients and bring a little bit of joy to their day. I also enjoy being able to meet new individuals and grow relationships with people I would have never met without this organization. What has volunteering with Meals on Wheels taught you about compassion, connection, and the impact of small acts of kindness? Volunteering with Meals on Wheels has taught me that we never truly know what someone else is going through or how much one small act of kindness can mean. Meals on Wheels helps older adults remain safely in their homes when everyday tasks, such as cooking, become more difficult. Being able to deliver a meal, share a warm smile, and offer a few words of encouragement can make a meaningful difference in someone's day. I am grateful to be part of an organization that reminds me how powerful simple acts of service can be. You helped establish a Student Organ Donation Advocacy Chapter at your school. What inspired you to take on this initiative, and what do you hope your chapter will accomplish? After hearing a speaker from LifeGift explain the impact of organ donation, I realized how much education had changed my own perspective. I immediately wanted to find a way to share that knowledge with as many people as possible. Many people have misconceptions or lack accurate information about organ, tissue, and eye donation. One organ donor can save multiple lives and help many others through tissue and eye donation. Through our chapter, we hope to educate our peers, clear up misconceptions, and inspire more people to consider becoming organ donors. What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? I am working on collaborating with the local Boys and Girls Club to host a mini soccer camp to kick off the beginning of their soccer season. What inspired you to organize a soccer camp for younger children, and what do you hope they will take away from the experience beyond learning soccer skills? I love the mission of the Boys and Girls Club and I love soccer. When I heard that their soccer season would be kicking off soon, I wanted to find a way to get involved. This seemed like the perfect way for me to combine my love of soccer with my passion for volunteering. I think spending time with the kids and watching them develop new skills is going to be so much fun! What first sparked your interest in dentistry, and what kind of impact do you hope to have on the lives of your future patient I don’t think there was an exact moment when I knew that I wanted to pursue dentistry, because it was never a question. Around the age of 6 I was nose deep in my sister’s mouth while the dentist explained everything he was doing. I was fascinated! One major impact I want to have on my future patients is making them feel confident in themselves, and their smiles. I believe that someone’s smile is the first thing you notice about them when you meet them, so I want every one of my patients to feel proud of it. Where is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today? If I could snap my fingers and be working my dream job, I would be operating my dental practice in Oregon. What could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you? My faith. Everything I am and hope to be comes from my relationship with God. How has your faith guided you through a challenging moment, and what did that experience teach you about trusting God's plan? My faith has guided me through every season of my life. Through the difficult times I have learned that trusting God’s plan is the only way you are going to get through it. When we try to do it our way we end up just digging ourselves deeper into the hole. However, when we do it His way, no matter how deep the hole we dig is He will always get us out. Trusting in God’s plan might not always make sense, but it is what will lead you to become the best version of yourself. You hope to become fluent in American Sign Language and serve as an interpreter at church. What inspired this goal, and why is making church services more accessible important to you? I believe that every person should have equal access to information no matter what their ability. By learning sign language, I can become an active member of my church’s deaf ministry. I can sign the songs and services so that they are able to engage and receive the word. What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? Being a leader is an action, not a title. What you do and how you treat others matter far more than the position you hold. A good leader builds relationships and genuinely cares about people. You want others to come to you not because you have an impressive title, but because they trust you and know you will be there for them. What advice would you give to a younger student who wants to get involved in leadership, athletics, or community service but doesn't know where to begin? The main advice I have for younger students is to find what you are passionate about and pursue it. We only have a short time on this earth to find what makes you happy and do it. If you don’t know what you are passionate about then step out of your comfort zone, and try everything until you find the things that you couldn’t imagine not having in your life. What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you? The person who nominated me is my mom. My favorite moments with her are our late-night chats. I love that I always have someone to talk to and process all the life moments that go along with being a teen. What is one piece of advice your mom has given you that you know you will carry with you as you graduate and begin your next chapter? My mom always says, “See a need, fill a need.” When you notice something in your school, community, or even at home that needs help, step up and do something about it. Nothing negative comes from trying to make a difference. Instead of being the person who complains about a problem, be the person who works to solve it. Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like? My photo was taken by Morgan Glaspie. I met Coach Glaspie when she coached me in Cross Country. It was an incredible experience, and I will always appreciate how supportive and encouraging Coach Glaspie was. How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? I came across Inspiring Teens Magazine on Instagram. I enjoyed seeing the photos and reading the bios. It’s so empowering to see the impact my peers and I are having on our communities and the difference we can make when we are passionate about something. How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you? I have a long road of education in front of me. I plan to obtain a Biology degree and then continue my education in Dental School. Every little bit of financial assistance I receive puts me one step closer to achieving my goals. What made you say “yes” to the Inspiring Teens challenge, and how did you feel when you first started? I was initially a little nervous about applying to Inspiring Teens challenge, but eventually I came to the realization that it doesn’t hurt to try something new and that in every experience there is an opportunity for growth. What is one moment during the challenge so far that has made you feel proud or realize you were growing - in confidence, mindset, or acting? One moment that made me realize how much I have grown was reflecting on what it means to be confident in yourself and your choices. There was a time when I second-guessed every word I said and was afraid to be myself. Now I understand that the right people will appreciate me for who I am. Learning to embrace that has shown me what real growth looks like. If another teen is thinking about joining the Inspiring Teens Magazine Leadership Challenge but feels unsure, what would you tell them? I would tell them it is an amazing opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. It never hurts to try. Beyond votes or placements, what are you hoping to gain from this experience—and what would make you feel truly successful at the end? I hope to gain greater confidence in myself. Stepping outside my comfort zone and sharing my photos in a magazine has already challenged me in a positive way. I hope this experience opens the door to more opportunities to try new things, meet new people, and continue growing into the person I want to become. Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you get where you are today? I would like to thank my mom because I would be nowhere near the person I am today without her. She has always been there and has always pushed me to my fullest extent, and for that I am so grateful. I would like to also thank my dad for always being there. When I had a game, he was there. When I lost my entire soccer bag, he was there to buy me a new one. He has driven more hours than humanly possible to be there. I can’t imagine a better dad than him. Is there anything else you’d like to tell us? My best piece of advice is to take pride in who you are as a person, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Find the people in the world who make you a better person and love you for who you are. She has a heart for making a difference, whether she is encouraging her classmates, working with children at church, participating in worship, media, and outreach, or developing her leadership through JAM, NJHS, and the Boys & Girls Club.
