Issue 106 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Cadence is a senior who serves as Student Body President and leads with purpose, compassion, and genuine care for others. She has a heart for making a difference, whether she is encouraging her classmates, working with children at church, participating in worship, media, and outreach, or developing her leadership through JAM, NJHS, and the Boys & Girls Club. What inspires me most as her mom is that Cadence doesn’t lead for recognition—she leads because she cares. She notices people who need encouragement, looks for ways to make a difference, and uses her voice and gifts to make those around her feel seen, valued, loved, and included.

What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about?

I love leading people to Jesus and including the outcast wherever I may be.

What does including people who may feel left out look like in your everyday life, and why is that so important to you?

A simple compliment, a conversation to feel welcome or an invitation to sit at my table. This is important to me because I want them to be reminded, they are not alone.

As Student Body President, what is one change or impact you hope to make at your school before you graduate?

As student body president, I hope to create a stronger sense of unity and belonging so every student feels seen, valued and heard.

What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now?

Currently I’m pursuing my passion for caring for people, taking a PCT class aiming for a medical profession to be an occupational therapist!

What inspired you to pursue occupational therapy, and what excites you most about helping people through that career?

I can wake up every morning knowing I can make a difference in someone’s life.

How is your PCT class preparing you for your future, and what have you learned from it so far?

My PCT class is preparing me with real-world, hands-on experience. I have learned that hospitals can be uncomfortable but with the help of a “Patient Care Technician” we make a difference.

What could you talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you?

I could talk for hours about being a light in other people’s lives and spreading kindness. This matters so much to me because I’ve seen people struggle, and I believe even the smallest act of kindness, like giving someone a genuine compliment, can make a meaningful difference in their day or even their life.

How does your faith influence the way you treat others and the decisions you make as a leader?

My faith influences the way I treat others by reminding me to lead with compassion, integrity and respect.

What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year?

Something I have learned about myself as a leader is that it’s not about perfection, but just about showing up for others.

What has serving in worship, media, outreach, and working with children at church taught you about using your individual gifts to serve others?

Serving in these areas has taught me that leadership is about others and not being in the spotlight. God can use every gift, big or small to make a difference.

What advice would you give another teen who wants to become a leader but doesn't feel confident enough to step forward?

My advice would be, to be yourself and embrace the gifts that God gave you.

What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you?

Something about my mom that means a lot to me is how strong she is despite the physical and mental battles she has faced; she continues to represent being the light even in dark places of life.

What is one lesson from your mom that you hope to carry with you throughout the rest of your life?

One lesson she has taught me is to guard my heart and to be a good human.

Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like?

The person who took my is photoshoot was @capturedbyhanna. She was recommended to me by a friend. I felt very confident, and comfortable during this shoot!
