Kylin Blanck - Minnesota

Nomination & Photography by Erinn Letts Photos

Issue 106 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Kylin Blanck’s warm-hearted soul shines through her eyes the moment you meet her. As captain of both her soccer and basketball teams, Kylin has learned that leadership isn’t about being the loudest voice, but about bringing out the best in others. She encourages teammates through losses, celebrates their achievements, and makes sure everyone feels like they’re part of the team. That same drive carries into the classroom, where she challenges herself with college and PSEO courses. Her warm, supportive energy lets everyone around her know they matter and to believe in themselves as much as she believes in them.

What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about?

Family has always been a huge part of my life. I am very family-oriented, and the support I have received from them over the years has helped shape me into the person I am today. They have taught me the importance of showing up for those you love and appreciating the relationships around you. Those are values I carry with me in everything I do.

What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now?

Besides focusing on finishing my senior year, I am currently working towards figuring out the next chapter in life. Things such as where I want to go to college and what I see myself doing in the future have definitely been on my mind. I’m interested in becoming a pediatric registered nurse. I say that because I have always enjoyed working with children, and I want to make a meaningful difference in others’ lives.

What could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you?

One thing I could talk about for hours is growing up and how strange it feels to be at this point in my life. For so long, the year 2027 felt so far away, almost fake, but now, as I enter into my senior year of high school, that year is right around the corner. I have never experienced such a bittersweet feeling before. It’s exciting that I have such an amazing opportunity, but at the same time, strange realizing how quickly everything changes.

What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year?

I have learned that being a leader doesn’t mean being perfect. Though many people may look up to you as a leader, that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a bad day or make mistakes. Everyone is human and learning as they go. What matters to me most is being someone others can count on, even when I’m still learning too. This past year has taught me to be confident in myself and trust that I make a difference for others in the way I show up.

What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you?

The person who nominated me was my photographer, Erinn Letts. Looking back at my session, the most memorable moment was her constantly hyping me up behind the camera. She made me feel confident in every pose and always knew what to say to make me laugh. I remember feeling so comfortable in that session because of how encouraging she was.

Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like?

I first connected with Erinn after seeing some of her work and loving the style of her photos. Immediately, I knew that I wanted pictures like that for myself, so I reached out to her using her website, and we set up a date for my session. The entire experience was amazing from start to finish, and the day felt so easy as well as enjoyable. In the end, I loved how everything came together, and I am so grateful for her.

How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you?

I first heard about Inspiring Teens Magazine through my photographer, Erinn. Being a part of this is very important to me because it gives me an opportunity to showcase who I am and what I value. With that, it is very meaningful to be a part of something that recognizes teens for more than just one accomplishment.

How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you?

Earning a scholarship would help me as I prepare for college and work towards my future. It would help take off some of the financial pressure of continuing my education, allowing me to focus more on pursuing my goals.
