Britton Stratton – Texas

Nomination & Photography by Angie Read Photography

Issue 106 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Britton Stratton is truly inspiring because she is driven, exceptionally talented, and, most importantly, kind. Pursuing a career as a professional dancer is challenging, yet Britton has known what she wants and worked tirelessly toward that dream since childhood. She dedicates approximately 15 hours each week to dance while maintaining excellent grades and participating in theater and cheer at school. Despite her demanding schedule and accomplishments, she remains humble, genuine, and compassionate. She is always the first to check on a friend, offer a hug, or simply listen. Britton’s greatest strength is pursuing her dreams without ever losing sight of who she is.

What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about?

I love art! Specifically, I love to sculpt. I enjoy bringing ideas to life through sculpture. Some of my favorite pieces include a bull in action, a horse (also) in action, and a ballerina. I am planning to make a snake to enter into this year's rodeo art contest.

What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now?

I am currently working on my college dance auditions. Applying to a college dance program has additional requirements than just the academic portion. I must prepare several solos in different styles of dance, prepare additional essays, prepare a dance resume, additional pictures, and for some schools, travel to the school for an audition class.

What could you talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you?

Dance. Dance is my passion and where I want to spend my career. There are so many different styles of dance that bring out different emotions. Every choreographer brings something unique to the pieces they create. How much dance inspires different emotions and movement. How it all tells a story. The topics are endless, and I enjoy every aspect of it.

What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year?

I have learned how much I care about people who struggle with something. Usually, it is something I am good at, but even if I am not, I love helping people solve a problem or reach their full potential. Whether it is dance, cheer, theater, or even schoolwork, I truly enjoy helping others.

What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you?

One of my favorite memories of Angie happened at the end of a photo session. We had a little bit of time, and we just talked. I got to know a little more about her time as a photographer, and I was able to tell her about my plans for the future. It was a special connection.

Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like?

Angie is a professional photographer, and we connected through my mother and sister. My sister was part of her power team last year for her senior year, and I joined this year, as well. The first time I met Angie I was more than a little nervous. It was interview for her power team. Angie continued to have this big bright smile, and it helped calm my nerves and make me less anxious.

How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you?

My sister participated last year. The idea that I could inspire others is, by itself, inspiring to me. It brings me confidence and energy to know people might be influenced positively by me.

How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you?

It will help pay for college or travel to attend dance auditions.
