Nomination: Ayana Patel is a senior student-athlete whose leadership is defined by compassion, resilience, and service. A varsity volleyball captain and libero with a 4.2 weighted GPA, she has dedicated 500+ hours to volunteering while balancing academics, athletics, and employment. Ayana spent 238 hours at Camp Aldersgate mentoring children with special needs and also mentors younger students through Big Brothers Big Sisters and her school's DRIVEN program. She organized a Pink Out fundraiser that raised $2,000 for the American Cancer Society. A member of NHS and Beta Club and an All-Conference volleyball honoree, Ayana leads by example and strives to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about?

One quality I want readers to know about me is my commitment to becoming a strong leader. I strive to lead by example, encourage others, and create a positive environment wherever I am. Through volleyball, student leadership, mentoring, and volunteering, I have learned that leadership is not about being the loudest voice, but about listening, supporting others, and being someone people can rely on. I continually challenge myself to step outside my comfort zone, take responsibility, and make a positive impact on the people and communities around me.

What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now?

Right now, I am working toward becoming the best version of myself by finding a college that will challenge me academically, help me grow personally, and prepare me for my future. I want to surround myself with people who push me to become a better by person by inspiring me and helping me along my goal of discovering my passions. My goal is to build a future I am proud of while staying true to who I am.

What could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you?

I could talk for hours about how everything is truly what you make it out to be. Your experiences, your attitude, and especially the people you surround yourself with can completely change how you see a place or situation. A place may just be a building or a location, but the memories you make and the people you share them with are what make it meaningful. I believe you can choose to find the good in almost any situation and make the most of wherever you are.

What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year?

Your mindset determines your lived experiences. The way you see the world can turn an ordinary moment into something meaningful.

What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you?

My favorite memory with my mom was my mother-daughter trip to Greece. We created lifelong memories while continuing to grow our bond, which I am thankful for every day.
