  • Parker Dooley: Grit, Leadership & a Future in Health Sciences

Parker Dooley – Texas Nomination & Photography by Angie Read Photography Issue 105 of Inspiring Teens Magazine Nomination: Parker is a senior at Grand Oaks High School in Spring, Texas. She plays center-back for her varsity soccer team, anchoring the defense with focus and leadership. Outside of school she is a certified lifeguard. She fully embraces the importance of her role and performs her duties with dedication and excellence. Beyond her athletic and professional commitments, she dedicates her free time to community service work, volunteering through various organizations, including The National MS Society and her home church. After graduation in the Spring, she plans to attend college where she will transition these strengths into the medical field to pursue a career in Health Sciences. She is looking forward to a new chapter after graduation and the adventure that awaits! What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about? I have had a lifelong struggle with ADHD. Although that can make school quite difficult at times, it has taught me how to work hard and to never give up. I have learned what true grit is over the years as nothing comes easy for me. My teachers have used words like determined, driven, and persistent to describe me. Grades have never come easy for me, but that's okay. Having to work hard has prepared me for life after high school. I will always remain diligent and keep my eye on the prize. I received the "Most Improved" varsity player for the 2025-2026 season. I was also named All-District Honorable Mention and All-District for Academics in May 2026. What did receiving the "Most Improved" varsity player award mean to you, and what growth in yourself are you most proud of? The most improved award was such an honor to receive. My whole life is about showing up, working hard, and being coachable. To be chosen for an award that highlights consistent, noticeable improvements over the last year means everything to me. Hard work definitely pays off! How has playing center-back shaped the way you approach leadership, pressure, and responsibility both on and off the soccer field? Playing center back has taught me how to stay calm under intense pressure, how to lead with grace, and how to be someone my team can count on. These experiences, on and off the field, have taught me to be strong, accountable, and how to be a team player. Being a high school athlete comes with a lot of responsibility. As athletes, we commit to represent ourselves, and our school, to the highest level and utmost standard. What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? I am currently working on my college admissions applications, which seems to be a full time job right now :-) The fall semester is all about getting the best grades I can, training hard in pre-season, and college applications. What qualities do you have that you believe will help you succeed in a career where patients may be depending on you during stressful or uncertain moments? Just a fun fact about people with ADHD, we are highly effective in the most stressful of situations. We know how to lock in and do what is necessary in the moment. I am responsible, reliable, and resilient. I am a problem solver, especially in a chaotic or stressful moment. I even know how to lighten a mood with a word of encouragement or something light hearted to make someone smile or laugh when they need it the most. What could you talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you? I love FOOD! I am a legitimate foodie and can discuss it endlessly. I enjoy exploring cultural cuisine, experiencing new restaurants, and trying all of the flavors! If you want to discuss all things food, I am your person :-) If you could travel anywhere in the world specifically to experience its food and culture, where would you go and what would you want to try first? Greece (Mediterranean food is a-mazing), Hawaii (attend a Luau, of course), and Italy (well, all of it!) What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? I have learned determination, persistence, and to never lose heart. If it's important to you, it's worth believing in and fighting for. This year, I have stepped into a mentorship role where I encourage younger soccer players by motivating them and offering supportive, guidance when they need it the most. I have learned about the bigger picture, healthy boundaries, and how to prioritize what matters most. Never let anyone steal your JOY! What have the younger soccer players you mentor taught you about yourself and the kind of leader you want to be? They have taught me to actively listen before I speak. They have also taught me to be patient, encouraging, and to always lead by example. You said, "Never let anyone steal your JOY!" What has helped you protect your joy when things haven't gone the way you hoped? That's a long story, but protecting your joy is essential. You can't control other people, but you can control your reaction, so keep your mind peaceful and walk away when you can. Not every little thing demands your attention or energy. Maturity is learning that you don't always have to have the last word or always be right. Protect your peace, forgive, and stay JOYFUL! Of all the community service work you've been involved in, what experience has made the biggest impact on you and why? Probably the biggest impact is working with disadvantaged youth. It is important to get out of your bubble and see the need that is in the community around you. Playing games with the kids, filling back packs with school supplies, loading up bags of groceries for the Food Bank, feeding families at Thanksgiving - all of that is impactful and reminds me to always be grateful for everything I have. We are blessed to be a blessing to others. What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you? I have enjoyed getting to know Angie. Although we have only had a few photo shoots together, so far I enjoyed our Galveston photo shoot the most. She is the real deal and I am honored to work with her this year! The person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like? I first met Angie in a coffee shop. My mom and I learned about her photography business and got to know her on a more personal level. I instantly liked Angie. She is genuine and friendly. She is a lovely person and super easy to work with - I am honored to be on her Senior Rep team this year! What has Angie helped you see or appreciate about yourself through the photographs she has created of you? She has helped me to overcome my insecurities and find the joy in photography. Most women struggle from time to time with the camera. Most of us do not feel photogenic, but Angie has a gift for photography and always comes through with the most beautiful shots! How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? I heard of Inspiring Teens Magazine through Angie. Kenzie Parrish – Ohio Nomination & Photography by Fischetti & Co. Photography Issue 105 of Inspiring Teens Magazine Nomination: Kenzie was such a fun client to work with. She is a very hardworking student and diligent athlete. Kenzie plans on becoming a nurse, and has already been working in the field for over a year. At this point she is training new people who are much older than her! Kenzie is from a kind, caring family and has all the tools to accomplish whatever she wants. I believe she will be a terrific asset to the healthcare industry. What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about? Kenzie has been competing in gymnastics for the past 12 years. She manages to balance work, practice and school and still is achieving a 4.0 GPA. What has gymnastics taught you about discipline and perseverance that you use in other areas of your life? Gymnastics has taught me to stay disciplined and never give up when things get difficult. I use those lessons in school, work, and everyday challenges by staying focused and continuing to work toward my goals. How do you balance the demands of gymnastics, school, and working in healthcare while maintaining a 4.0 GPA? I balance gymnastics, school, and working in healthcare by staying organized and managing my time wisely. I make schoolwork a priority and plan ahead around my practices and work schedule. Being disciplined helps me stay focused and complete assignments on time. I also make sure to give myself time to rest so I can perform my best in every area. What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? Kenzie is working hard to be able to compete at the next level in gymnastics for her final year of the sport. What would competing at the next level during your final year of gymnastics mean to you? Competing at the next level during my final year would mean so much to me, especially getting to experience it alongside my teammates. We have grown up and worked so hard together, and I would love to finish my gymnastics journey by competing at a higher level with the girls who have supported me throughout the years. It would be a special way to make our final season unforgettable. After 12 years in gymnastics, what is one accomplishment or memory from the sport that makes you especially proud? After 12 years of gymnastics, I’m most proud of simply making it through my senior year. Gymnastics has been a huge part of my life, and finishing my final season means I never gave up and stayed committed through all the challenges. What could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you? Kenzie could talk about gymnastics for hours. It is important to her because she has developed leadership skills as well as life long friendships. It is a difficult sport but exciting at the same time. It is a commitment. How have the friendships you've made through gymnastics shaped your experience in the sport? The friendships I’ve made through gymnastics have shaped my entire experience. Honestly, without my friends and teammates, I don’t think I would have made it this far. They have supported me through the hard days, encouraged me when I wanted to give up, and made every practice and competition more memorable. What advice would you give to a younger gymnast who is struggling with the commitment or challenges of the sport? My advice would be to keep going, even when it feels like you’ll never get a new skill or improve. Eventually, you will, and it will feel so much better knowing how hard you worked for it. Also, don’t compare yourself to other gymnasts. Everyone improves at their own pace, so focus on your own progress and keep believing in yourself. What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? I have great natural instincts when caring for patients in my nursing aid role. I enjoy getting to meet patients from various backgrounds. I have the privilege of caring for them when they need it the most. I enjoy teaching the new hires and showing them how to do things right. I’ve learned that you need to change your approach based on the situation and the patient. What first inspired you to pursue nursing and begin working in healthcare while still in high school? My mom first inspired me to pursue nursing because I’ve always seen how much she enjoys caring for others. I’ve realized that I have that same passion for helping and caring for people. Working in healthcare while still in high school has allowed me to experience that firsthand and confirmed that nursing is what I want to pursue. What have your patients taught you about compassion and connecting with people from different backgrounds? My patients have taught me that everyone has a different story and needs to be treated with patience and understanding. Working in healthcare has shown me how important it is to listen, be kind, and make people feel comfortable. Even small acts of compassion can make a big difference in someone’s day. What is it like training new employees who are older than you, and how has that experience strengthened your confidence as a leader? Training new employees who are older than me has taught me that leadership is about confidence, communication, and knowledge, not age. I’ve learned to trust what I know and be comfortable helping others. I also enjoy being in charge and taking on leadership responsibilities. This experience has made me much more confident in myself and my ability to lead. What qualities do you think will make you a great nurse someday? I think my compassion, patience, and willingness to help others will make me a great nurse. I care about making people feel comfortable and supported, and I’m not afraid to work hard. I’m also a good listener, responsible, and confident, which I think are all important qualities in nursing. Where would your ideal dream job be if it were offered to you today? My ideal dream job would be working at Firelands Health alongside my mom. She is one of the biggest reasons I want to become a nurse, so being able to work at the same hospital as her would be really special to me. I would love to care for patients while learning from someone who inspired me to pursue nursing. What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you? We found him on the internet and felt drawn to his website. We liked the style of his photography. When we met in person it was comfortable and fun. He did a great job preparing me for what to expect and how to get the most out of my sessions with him. I was appreciative that he took the time to scope out settings that I would feel comfortable getting my photo taken in. How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? I first heard about this magazine from Stef when he said that he wanted to nominate me. I think it is important to see all the good in the world and what our next generation is working towards. Too often there is an overwhelming amount of negativity in the press. We don’t spend enough time highlighting all of the good that is happening around us. How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you? Earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine will help me achieve my goal of becoming a registered nurse and ultimately caring for the sick. What made you say “yes” to the Inspiring Teens challenge, and how did you feel when you first started? I said “yes” to the Inspiring Teens challenge because I thought it would be a great opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and share more about myself. When I first started, I was a little nervous and unsure of what to expect, but I was also excited to be part of something that encourages teens to be confident and inspire others. What is one moment during the challenge so far that has made you feel proud or realize you were growing - in confidence, mindset, or taking action? At first, I was nervous about putting myself out there, but I’ve learned to be more comfortable talking about my experiences and what I want for my future. It has helped me realize that I have a lot to be proud of and that my voice and story are worth sharing. I would tell them to go for it and not be afraid to step outside of their comfort zone. You never know what opportunities can come from trying something new. Even if you feel nervous at first, it can help you grow in confidence and learn more about yourself. Beyond votes or placements, what are you hoping to gain from this experience—and what would make you feel truly successful at the end? I hope to gain more confidence and become more comfortable putting myself out there. I would feel successful knowing that I challenged myself, grew as a person, and was able to inspire even one other teen through my story and experiences. Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you get where you are today? I would like to thank my family, friends, teammates, coach, and everyone who has supported me throughout my life. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the people who have encouraged me, believed in me, and supported me along the way. Is there anything else you’d like to tell us? I’m really grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Inspiring Teens challenge. It has given me a chance to share my experiences, step outside my comfort zone, and reflect on how much I’ve grown. I hope my story can encourage other teens to believe in themselves and keep working toward their goals. What inspired you to choose Livestock Production and Agricultural Business and Marketing as your areas of study? Hard work, determination, and dedication will always pay off. What is one of your favorite memories involving horses, farming, or rodeo with your family? She is my biggest cheerleader and supporter, pushing me to be the best version of myself. Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like? Rachel Wood Photography had a Senior Spokesmodel application and on a whim I applied. I was beyond excited when I found out I was selected. I have already had my senior photo shoot with her which showcases the real Emerson Price. Rachel was so much fun to work with. She had so many creative ideas and she even helped me climb a 10-foot ladder so I could take pictures on my school’s football goal post! What has being part of Rachel's Senior Spokesmodel team added to your senior year experience? Creating new friendships with girls from other schools and being mentors to younger girls. How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? I first heard about ITM when Rachel posted a picture of me leaning against my late grandfather's tractor. This picture meant so much to me because my grandfather and I had a very special relationship and this picture showcased it. Being selected to represent the ITM team means that I am a part of a legacy of young women leaders. Women leaders have the ability to foster change and create opportunities for young girls like my young sisters. What do you hope your younger sisters learn from watching you pursue your goals and step into leadership opportunities? I hope my younger sisters learn that they should always believe in themselves and never be afraid to chase their dreams. I want them to see that stepping into leadership opportunities can be scary, but having confidence and working hard can open so many doors. I think it's extremely important for people to realize that mental illnesses don't make a person "dangerous" they don't change who the person really is.Society likes to categorize people, and according to science the brain categorizes to help organize and keep all the information in the brain. So understandably we use categories to help us remember, however, we tend to have bias towards certain categories or groups.I could go on and on about the importance in breaking the stigma around mental health and in general inequality in our society. Tell us about your childhood and physical challenges. I was born in Xiamen City with a rare disease known as albinism. This means that I lack pigment in my skin, hair and eyes. This disease is not curable, and its primary impact is on my eyesight. Growing up I had several accommodations in school to ensure my success. Even now that I am in college, Iowa State’s Student Accessibility Center has provided me with accommodations to aid in my educational success. Throughout my childhood I was extremely active and did several extracurricular activities and would not let my lack of vision stop me. As a dance, self-taught aerialist, handbalancer and contortionist I have proven that there is no limit to success. There is no limit to what you can do because of what you were born with, where you came from or what society says you should be able to do. Where are you now with the internal struggles that have impacted you as a teen? Today I am continuing to learn and grow from my past. I am becoming an advocate for others who may be experiencing similar internal struggles. As someone with depression and anxiety, I understand the feeling of not being good enough. I know several teens who have experienced that feeling and being a voice for others is such an empowering thing to do. Contributing to changing the stigma around mental health is my current priority because mentally ill people are still human beings and should be treated as such. I truly believe that no diagnosis should define a person. Being able to stand up and come forward with my struggles has inspired other teens to do the same and the beauty in that is breathtaking. To know that I have such an impact on others gives me hope. How did you get into dance and contortion, and what is your training like? Walk us through your journey as well as what a typical training day is like. As a child, my siblings were dancers, I grew up playing piano and doing gymnastics everywhere I went. When my siblings were in dance I decided, I was just going to “try” it. Seven years later I found a new physical activity. I had gone to see my first Cirque Du Soleil show and was inspired to be a contortionist from that moment on. Living in Iowa I knew there weren’t any contortion instructors, so I began teaching myself. I began learning and expanding my knowledge in aerial arts and contortion. On training day, I always start with a warmup whether that be learning a new tik tok dance, dancing around the house, or going for a run. I typically do strengthening after that to prepare my body for handstands and contortion. From there I will stretch out and work on various contortion poses. Then come the handstands and lastly will come the aerial stuff and I will end with another stretch session and conditioning. Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine? I would love to be in Inspiring Teens because I truly believe that my words, my voice and my passion shows through when I write, and through the actions I take to raise awareness about important topics. I think my voice is one to be reckoned with and believe that others will find inspiration and knowledge from what I have to say. • Emma Mike: From Robotics & Softball to a Future in Aerospace Engineering

Emma Mike - Minnesota Nomination & Photography by Erinn Letts Photos Issue 105 of Inspiring Teens Magazine Nomination: Emma doesn’t simply step up to a challenge, she brings others along. Whether she’s teaching water safety, serving her community, cheering on her swim team, or fulfilling her role as captain of her robotics team, Emma shows up with kind and cheerful leadership that draws others in. Her commitment to helping others started early, earning the Jean Schreier Memorial Volunteer Award in 8th grade. She later became a two-time Team Spirit Award winner for her vibrant encouragement. On the robotics team, Emma blends STEM skills, strategy, mentorship, and creativity at every phase of competition. Emma always goes the extra mile! What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about? I started coaching girls softball this past summer, and I plan to continue because the sport has always been a passion of mine. Coaching has been incredibly rewarding — not just because it keeps me connected to the game I love, but because I get to help players grow and discover their confidence. Watching these girls develop, both on and off the field, is what I enjoy most. Seeing them push through challenges and master new skills is unforgettable. I hope they learn resilience, teamwork, and confidence. Softball is the tool; the life lessons are what truly last. What do you enjoy most about coaching younger softball players, and what do you hope they learn from you beyond the game? For me, the best part of working with younger softball players is seeing their confidence grow. There’s something special about watching a girl who was unsure of herself learn a skill, try it again, and eventually nail it. That spark of “I can do this” is incredibly rewarding. I also often enjoy the energy younger players bring — the excitement, the goofiness, the willingness to try things — it keeps the game fun. How has being both an athlete and a coach changed the way you think about leadership and teamwork? Being both an athlete and a coach has a way of reshaping how you see leadership and teamwork from the inside out. When you’re a player, you experience leadership — you feel the impact of a coach’s decisions, energy, and communication. But when you step into coaching, you suddenly create that environment. Seeing both sides gives you a much deeper appreciation of what truly makes a team work. What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? As a high school senior, I’m excited to reach the next milestone in my journey: receiving my college acceptance letters. I plan to major in electrical engineering and pursue a minor in aerospace engineering. My dream is to build airplanes someday — to play a part in designing and creating the machines that push the limits of what’s possible. Engineering has always fascinated me, and I’m eager to take the next steps toward turning that passion into a future career. What first sparked your interest in electrical and aerospace engineering? I built my first robot at eight and spent countless hours experimenting with Snap Jr. circuits and creating LEGO inventions. I’ve always loved the challenge of building something from nothing. Joining my high school robotics team strengthened that curiosity, giving me my first experience working with complex electronics and showing me that engineering was more than a hobby — it was my future. I’ve also been drawn to aerospace, fascinated by machines that fly and push boundaries. Combining electrical and aerospace engineering feels like the perfect path to turn that excitement into a career focused on designing innovative, inspiring technology. Where is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today? My ideal job is working for a major organization like Boeing or even NASA someday. Both represent innovation, precision, and teamwork at the highest level. Boeing inspires me with its focus on safety, engineering, and the customer experience, while NASA pushes the boundaries of science and technology. Either path would let me apply my STEM skills, solve complex problems, and contribute to something bigger than myself. Whether improving how people travel or supporting advances in space exploration, I want to be part of a team that changes the way we move, discover, and connect. What could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you? I could talk about Marvel movies for hours! I’ve watched every single one — and in order. It’s something my dad and I have always bonded over, and our Marvel movie marathons have become one of my favorite traditions. Whether we’re debating which movie has the best storyline or quoting our favorite scenes, it’s something that always brings us together and gives us time to relax, laugh, and just enjoy the moment. And some of the movies have the best soundtracks! Which Marvel character do you relate to the most, and why? Tony Stark, because I’m constantly wanting to build things and make them work. I love the challenge of taking an idea, figuring out how it functions, and then improving it. His creativity, problem-solving, and drive to innovate inspire me to keep pushing myself in STEM and never stop building. What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? I’ve learned that there’s almost always more than one way to accomplish a task, and thinking creatively often leads to better, more efficient solutions. Looking beyond conventional approaches has taught me to be flexible, curious, and open to new ideas — skills that are valuable both in engineering and in everyday problem-solving. How has being captain of your robotics team challenged you to become a stronger leader and problem solver? Being captain of my robotics team pushed me to become a stronger leader and problem solver. The role meant supporting teammates, communicating clearly, and making decisions under pressure, even when I didn’t have all the answers. I had to stay calm during setbacks, think creatively, and help break down complex problems piece by piece. Instead of getting overwhelmed, I learned to see challenges as chances to improve our strategy and teamwork. Overall, leading the team taught me to trust my abilities, stay adaptable, and empower others. I learned that real leadership is collaboration, curiosity, and resilience. What advice would you give to another girl who is interested in STEM but may be hesitant to put herself out there? If you’re interested in STEM but feeling hesitant, start small—but start. You don’t need to be fearless; you just need to take the first step. Curiosity is already a strength, and it absolutely belongs in STEM. Feeling nervous or unsure is normal — everyone begins without knowing everything. What matters is choosing to show up anyway. You’ll be amazed by what you discover about yourself. Find a supportive community—clubs, mentors, teachers, or friends—who encourage you. STEM is for everyone, and surrounding yourself with people who believe in you makes it easier to believe in your own potential. Why was incorporating your robotics flag into your senior photos so meaningful to you? Robotics has been a big part of my high school experience and during our competitions we have a flag that we bring with us and it was important to me to capture that during one of my photos and Erinn got creative to make that work for me! Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like? Erinn immediately made me feel at ease and took the time to explain what contributes to a great senior photo session. We discussed colors, styles, and what tends to work well in photos. She also spent time getting to know me and my personality, which made the experience even better. How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? My photographer, Erinn, introduced me to the opportunity. As a natural introvert, getting involved with Inspiring Teens Magazine excites me because it encourages me to step out from behind the scenes and try something new. It’s a chance for me to grow, challenge myself, and share parts of my story that I don’t always put out into the world. What have you discovered about yourself when you've pushed beyond your comfort zone and allowed yourself to be seen? When I’ve pushed beyond my comfort zone and allowed myself to be seen, I’ve realized I’m stronger and more capable than I once believed. It’s nerve-wracking at first to step into uncertain spaces, but every time I’ve done it, the hesitation fades and the growth is real. I’ve learned that being visible doesn’t mean being perfect — it means being present and willing to try. By sharing the vulnerable parts of myself, I’ve adapted, connected more deeply, and proven that I can handle challenges. Each experience has strengthened my confidence and shown me that showing up fully leads to real progress. How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you? Earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine would support me as I continue my education and pursue new opportunities with confidence. It would also motivate me to keep pushing myself outside my comfort zone and stay involved in activities that help me grow. Knowing that others believe in my potential would be a powerful reminder to keep challenging myself, stay curious, and step forward even when something feels new or intimidating. What made you say “yes” to the Inspiring Teens challenge, and how did you feel when you first started? I said “yes” to the Inspiring Teens challenge because I saw a real opportunity to make an impact and be part of something that would help me grow. I felt nervous and a bit hesitant at first, I knew those feelings were just part of stepping into something worthwhile. Starting out, I was a little overwhelmed by everything that came with the role, but I didn’t let that stop me. Instead, I focused on showing up, learning quickly, and trusting that I could rise to the challenge. And once I got going, that initial uncertainty shifted into a clearer path. If another teen is thinking about joining the Inspiring Teens Magazine Leadership Challenge but feels unsure, what would you tell them? If another teen were thinking about joining the Inspiring Teens Magazine Leadership Challenge but felt unsure, I’d tell them to go for it. I understand the hesitation — I’m an introvert, and stepping into something new can feel intimidating. But this program gives you a safe space to grow, try new things, and learn more about yourself. You don’t need to be loud or outgoing; you just need to show up as you are. You don’t have to have everything figured out, either. Taking that first step is enough, and the things that feel scary often become the experiences that shape you most. Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you get where you are today? Thank you to everyone that voted for me! Look for Emma in issue 105 of Inspiring Teens Magazine! * Interviews are shared in the teen’s own words so their authentic voice shines through.

  • Vivien Pina: Leading with Faith, Compassion & a Dream of Nursing

Vivien Pina – Texas Nomination by Francine Pina Photography by Angie Del Orbe Photography Issue 105 of Inspiring Teens Magazine Nomination: Vivien Carolina Pina is a senior at Cornerstone Christian School whose leadership and dedication have distinguished her in the classroom and in athletics. Guided by verse Proverbs 3:5-6, she strives to trust in the Lord and seek His direction in all aspects of her life. As an active member of the varsity cheer and track teams, Vivien demonstrates discipline and perseverance on and off the field. Known for her academic excellence, she approaches education with a strong work ethic and commitment to her studies. She plans to pursue a nursing career, combining compassion, service, and a commitment to helping others. What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about? Family is at the center of my life. I deeply values the love, faith, and strong moral principles instilled by her family. Their guidance and encouragement have helped me pursue my goals with confidence. What is one lesson or value your family has taught you that you know you will carry with you throughout your life? Hard work and integrity. My parents always emphasized that showing up consistently and being honest, even when it’s difficult, defines your character more than any achievement. I carry that as my baseline for every decision I make. How have your experiences in varsity cheer and track helped shape your discipline, confidence, and perseverance? Balancing the technical precision of cheer with the physical endurance of track taught me to manage my time, push through fatigue, and stay composed under pressure. Those experiences showed me that confidence comes from preparation, and perseverance is just the decision to keep going even when you're tired. What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? Right now, my primary goals are to successfully finish high school, gain acceptance into a college where I can continue my education, and pursue a degree in nursing. As I continue pursuing my future, I’m determined to grow personally, academically, and professionally while remaining grounded in my faith, values, and the support of my family. I’m looking to making a positive impact in the lives of patients and their families. What inspired you to pursue nursing, and what qualities do you hope to bring to your future patients and their families? Watching my family navigate health challenges showed me the difference a compassionate, steady nurse makes, and I want to provide that same comfort. I hope to bring empathy, patience, and clear communication to my patients and their families when they need it most. Is there a particular area of nursing you are interested in pursuing, and what draws you to it? Pediatric nursing appeals to me because it offers the unique opportunity to care for children throughout their development while providing crucial emotional support to their families. The prospect of advocating for a patient who may not be able to express their needs fully, combined with the resilience children show in the face of illness, is what draws me to this specialty. What could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you? I can talk about my faith for hours. It is one of the most important parts of my life, and I strives to live in a way that reflects God's love and guidance. Through my actions, words, and relationships, I hope to encourage others to grow in their own faith and trust in God's plan for their lives. I believes that sharing personal experiences, offering support, and leading by example can help others strengthen their relationship with Christ. Guided by Proverbs 3:5-6, I strive to demonstrate the importance of trusting in the Lord through both challenges and successes. My goal is to inspire others to deepen their faith, find hope in God's promises, and build a stronger connection with Him. Why is Proverbs 3:5-6 especially meaningful to you, and how has it guided you through an important moment in your life? When I was deciding on my career path and feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to choose the "perfect" direction, this passage helped me let go of my need for total control. It guided me to stop overanalyzing every possible outcome and instead trust that if I stayed focused on my values and put in the work, things would unfold as they were meant to. It turned my anxiety into a sense of peace, allowing me to move forward with confidence rather than fear. How do you hope your faith will influence the way you care for others throughout your future nursing career? My faith will be the foundation for providing compassionate, holistic care that goes beyond just the physical needs of my patients. I see nursing as a ministry of presence, where I can offer genuine kindness, patience, and hope to children and families who are often going through their most difficult days. It will remind me to treat every patient with dignity and to listen deeply, ensuring that they feel seen and valued, even when they are at their most vulnerable. What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? One thing I’ve learned about myself this past year is that I’m capable of achieving more than I once thought possible when I stay focused, work hard, and trust in God. Balancing academics, athletics, leadership responsibilities, and personal commitments has taught me the importance of perseverance, discipline, and faith. I discovered that I can overcome challenges, adapt to new situations, and continue growing even when things are difficult. Most importantly, I’ve learned to trust God's plan for my life and to have confidence in the talents and opportunities He has given me as I pursues my goals and future aspirations. What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today? My dream job would be working as a pediatric nurse in a specialized children's hospital, where I can provide compassionate care and support to families during their most challenging times. What is one challenge you've faced that showed you just how capable and resilient you really are? Balancing intense academic pressures while navigating a major personal transition really tested me, but coming out the other side showed me that I can handle significant stress and still remain focused on my goals. That experience taught me to rely on my own inner strength and adaptability when things get tough. What advice would you give another teen who is struggling to trust the process when things aren't going according to plan? Trust that you’re exactly where you need to be, even when life feels uncertain. Lean on your faith to remember you aren't navigating these challenges alone, and be kind to yourself as you grow through the process, knowing you have the strength to handle whatever comes next. What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you? Family is one of the most important aspects of my life. Their unwavering support has helped shaped my character, strengthen my confidence, and motivate me to pursue my goals. I deeply value the love, faith, encouragement, and strong sense of togetherness that my family provides. Whether it is gathering for family dinners, supporting one another at school and sporting events, or simply enjoying time together, these moments have created lasting memories that I will always cherish. As you prepare for college and the next chapter of your life, what family tradition or memory do you think you'll treasure most? I feel ready for college knowing I have such a rock-solid support system in my family, and having that foundation makes me feel like I can handle whatever comes my way. I’ll always treasure our family traditions like those big holiday dinners where we all crowd around the table to share stories, because that feeling of being completely surrounded by love is exactly what I'll hold onto whenever I'm feeling homesick. Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like? The photo was taken by Angie Orbe-Cardenas. Her studio's name is Angie Del Orbe Photography. Vivien and Angie's daughter both attend Cornerstone Christian School where they are both cheerleads. Are you part of a model team with your photographer? If so, tell us about it. I loved how Angie made me feel so comfortable and natural in front of the camera, which really helped my personality shine through in the photos. I’m also a part of Angie's 2026-2027 senior rep team. It’s given me the chance to connect with so many other girls and express my own style through all the fun, themed shoots we do together. How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? I first heard about Inspiring Teens Magazine through my photographer, and being part of it matters so much to me because it celebrates real, diverse stories and gives young people a platform to share their voices and passions. How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you? Earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine would help me take an important step toward achieving my educational and career goals. As I prepare to attend college and pursue a degree in nursing, this scholarship would help ease the financial burden of higher education. Beyond the financial support, being selected would be a tremendous honor and an encouragement to continue striving for excellence in academics, athletics, leadership, and service. What made you say “yes” to the Inspiring Teens challenge, and how did you feel when you first started? I decided to take on the Inspiring Teens challenge because I wanted to grow my confidence, and honestly, I felt a mix of nerves and excitement as I started the journey. What is one moment during the challenge so far that has made you feel proud or realize you were growing - in confidence, mindset, or taking action? I felt so proud during my first solo shoot when I realized I could pose naturally and confidently without overthinking every single movement. It was that moment where I stopped worrying about how I looked and just focused on having fun, which totally changed my mindset. If another teen is thinking about joining the Inspiring Teens Magazine Leadership Challenge but feels unsure, what would you tell them? I’d tell them that feeling unsure is totally normal, but the growth you’ll experience is worth it—just take that first step and see what you're capable of. You'll be surprised at how much confidence you build once you dive in! Beyond votes or placements, what are you hoping to gain from this experience—and what would make you feel truly successful at the end? I’m looking to gain genuine connections with other driven teens and a deeper understanding of my own leadership style. I’ll feel truly successful if I walk away knowing I pushed past my comfort zone, contributed meaningfully to the community, and left with a clearer vision of how I can use my voice to make an impact. Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you get where you are today? I’d definitely want to thank my mom for always encouraging me to be my authentic self and teaching me the value of perseverance. She's been my biggest cheerleader, and I wouldn't be the person I am today without her support. Is there anything else you’d like to tell us? I just want to say how much I appreciate the opportunity to reflect on these questions, as it's been a great reminder of how far I've come and what really matters to me. Look for Vivien in issue 105 of Inspiring Teens Magazine! * Each interview is shared in the teen’s own words, so their authentic voice shines through.

  • Vivian Ho: Breaking Barriers & Empowering Young Changemakers

Vivian Ho - Texas Nomination by Anika Luangaphay Photography by Pranet Ramanan Issue 105 of Inspiring Teens Magazine Nomination: Vivian Ho is a 17-year-old youth changemaker and co-founder of All The Same Organization, a youth-led nonprofit that brings resources and opportunities directly to underserved schools to help remove transportation, language, and information barriers. Growing up in a small apartment with five family members, Vivian was often the only English speaker in her household and helped her family navigate resources from age 8. At 16, she turned those experiences into action. In one year, All The Same has grown to over 200 chapters across 150 countries, inspired over 200 young leaders, mobilized over 8,000 volunteers, distributed over 150,000 supplies valued at $75,000, and partnered with 20 schools across the U.S. What could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you? Existing resources do not always equal accessible resources. I call the barriers between resources and the people they were created for “invisible barriers.” These include language, transportation, and information gaps. Food banks and free tutoring may exist, but how is an 8 year old with limited English and no transportation supposed to find them? I experienced this firsthand growing up, and it’s something I could talk about for hours. It matters because I know how frustrating it is to need help but not know where to find it or how to access it. That experience shaped my work and led me to share my perspective through KQED Perspectives and Channel Kindness. Beyond connecting families and students with resources, what other programs or services does your nonprofit provide to the communities you serve? One program I'm proud of is Cultural Surprises. A lot of the students we serve come from cultures that don't always get seen or celebrated at school. Through Cultural Surprises, our volunteers make crafts and art inspired by each student's culture: cards edged in gold with a panda in red ribbons for a Chinese family; a mosaic painted with encouraging words in Swahili for a Kenyan one. It's a small gesture with a big message: your background matters. It also teaches our volunteers about cultures outside their own, which is what the name All The Same Organization is about. What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? I hope to create a lasting impact on students’ lives through my nonprofit and community work. A parent support specialist at a Title I school once told me, “The supplies that you bring for these kids, It lasts them for months, but you forever stay in their hearts. I hope you know that.” I think about that often. I hope to expand my work and connect students with resources and opportunities in every U.S. state. Beyond my own impact, I want to inspire others to take action. Knowing I helped someone else make a difference would remind me my efforts matter. What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about? Beyond All The Same, I’m passionate about helping other young people make an impact, too. I mentor youth nonprofit founders, helping 30+ young leaders grow their organizations and 15 students start nonprofits from scratch. I also use marketing and social media for impact, creating content that encourages philanthropy while sharing educational opportunities. I’m Vice President of the TEO Program, which connects students with free SAT, AP, and college resources, and Vice President of my school’s Cultural Committee Student Council, representing 400+ students while currently running for President. To me, leadership isn’t just about creating change myself. It’s about helping other young people realize they can create change, too. What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? I’ve learned two things about myself as a leader. First, social media and impact can go hand in hand. I’ve learned to use what the younger generation is good at: our ambition, creativity, and voices. I wouldn’t have expanded internationally without our amazing chapter founders, each taking All The Same Organization’s mission and making it their own. Second, I’ve learned to change the system when something doesn’t work. Failure is inevitable, but it doesn’t have to be the end. Every setback has taught me to rethink, improve, and come back stronger. How have you learned to use social media and marketing as tools for creating meaningful change rather than simply building an audience? When I started posting about All The Same, I decided to share my real journey, including what a day in my life as a teen nonprofit founder actually looks like. People don't just see a cause; they see someone their age doing something about it. Hundreds of people have reached out to tell me I've inspired them, and that's how I measure success. A follower count doesn't change anything by itself. But if one person sees my story and decides to start something in their own community, that is change that keeps spreading. As All The Same continues to grow, how do you make sure its work stays personal and responsive to what individual communities actually need? For me, staying personal means never assuming every family needs the same thing. Our supply packages are built around each student's or family's specific needs, so we respond to real people instead of guessing. Cultural Surprises work the same way. Each one is built around an individual's culture, so no two are alike. We also work directly with Title I schools, which keeps us close to what students are actually going through. As we grow, I want that to stay our rule. Growing doesn't have to mean becoming generic. It should just mean more people get something made for them. If you could change one thing about the way resources are delivered to underserved students and families, what would it be and why? I'd bring resources straight to schools. A lot of help already exists, but families have to go find it. That's where many of them get stuck, whether it's because of transportation, work schedules, or not knowing where to look. Schools are where students spend most of their day, and they're one of the biggest sources of opportunity a student has. If resources were right there, students wouldn't have to choose between getting help and everything else going on in their lives. That's a big reason ATS works directly with schools. How did helping your family navigate resources from such a young age shape the way you see problems and solutions today? It made me a creative problem-solver. When you're young and helping your family figure out systems that weren't built with you in mind, you learn quickly that the "normal" way doesn't always work, so you find another way. I still approach problems like that. Cultural Surprises came from that mindset. I noticed cultural gaps and misunderstandings between people, and instead of just talking about them, I found a hands-on way to bridge them through art and crafts. Can you share a setback that forced you to rethink your approach and ultimately made you or your organization stronger? In middle school, I told my school counselor about my idea to bridge gaps for underserved students by bringing support directly into schools. She asked me, "Why would they need that if they have food banks?" It stuck with me, and it showed me the problem runs deeper than I thought. The issue isn't only missing resources. Many people, even those who work with students every day, don't see the barriers underserved families face. That changed how I built ATS. We focus on removing barriers like access and stigma, not just handing out supplies. What advice would you give another teen who sees a problem in their community but feels too young or inexperienced to do something about it? You are never too young to do something. It's easy to think you need to be older, more experienced, or have everything figured out first, but you don't. Start your idea, no matter how small it feels. Every big thing starts small, and you'll learn far more by doing than by waiting until you feel ready. The people you want to help don't need you to be perfect. They need you to show up. What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today? My dream job would be at the intersection of business and public policy. Policy shapes who gets access to resources, and business teaches the leadership and organizational skills to turn ideas into something real. I want to combine both. I'd use my knowledge of law and policy to expand access for the people who need it most, and my business skills to build programs that actually reach them. Running ATS has shown me how much good one idea can do with a strong organization behind it, and I want to do that on a bigger scale. Beyond votes or placements, what are you hoping to gain from this experience—and what would make you feel truly successful at the end? More than votes or placements, I hope this experience helps All The Same's story reach people who haven't heard it. I'll feel truly successful if I inspire even one young person to become a changemaker. If someone reads this and decides to help their community, even in a small way, that means more to me than any title. My message is simple: strive to help others, and strive to help your community. What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you? Anika is my best friend and co-founder, so some of my favorite memories with her are honestly the simplest ones. I love how our hangouts can start with us debating the best pasta and somehow turn into a full planning session about, “How can we help these communities better?” Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like? Pranet is a devoted volunteer with All The Same Organization, and I’m incredibly grateful for the time and effort he has contributed to serving underserved communities. Working with him has been especially meaningful because he’s someone who genuinely cares about the mission and consistently shows up to help. I’m glad we were able to capture a little piece of that work through these photos. How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? I first heard about Inspiring Teens Magazine through my best friend and co-founder, Anika, who insisted it would be a great fit for me. Being part of the magazine matters to me because it gives me another platform to raise awareness about the “invisible barriers” between resources and the people who need them, while hopefully inspiring other young people to take action in their own communities. How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you? Earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine would allow me to put the funds directly toward connecting more resources to students who need them. I would use it to provide educational opportunities and customized supply packages based on the needs of individual students and their families. My goal is to make every resource we provide intentional, accessible, and genuinely useful to the students receiving it. • Monreux Slater: Dancing, Dreaming & Inspiring Others with Confidence

Monreux Slater – Florida Nomination & Photography by BaiYu Harrah Issue 105 of Inspiring Teens Magazine Nomination: I am honored to nominate Monreux for Inspiring Teen Magazine. This summer, at Elev8Escape—ElevateHer’s first ambassador retreat—I had the opportunity to witness firsthand exactly why she was chosen to represent our brand. Monreux is the kind of person who notices others. She was consistently kind, uplifting, and encouraging to every girl around her. If someone seemed shy or was standing alone, Monreux was often the first to welcome her and make sure she felt included. Her ability to help others feel seen and valued is something that cannot be taught, and it left a lasting impression on me. Beyond being a talented dancer, Monreux is a dedicated student, a wonderful sister, and an exceptional ambassador. She has also been selected to walk in New York Fashion Week for Wild Child Magazine and has appeared in several music videos. Her accomplishments are exciting, but it is her character, compassion, and natural ability to inspire others that make her truly deserving of this recognition. As the founder of ElevateHer, I could not be prouder to have Monreux representing our community. She is truly one of our most outstanding ambassadors, and I believe she is destined for incredible success—not only because of her talent, but because of the light she brings to every room she enters. Monreux Slater – Florida | Photography by BaiYu Harrah | Issue 105 of Inspiring Teens Magazine What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about? I am very energetic and full of life & love to make people happy, smile & inspired! I have done well with dance and am especially proud of my Judges Awards for Personality, but I am also doing a lot of acting & modeling and was very excited to be in several music videos the past few months, plus walking in Miami Swim Week and New York Fashion Week & being an ELITE Ambassador for Elevate Her Activewear! Of all the opportunities you've had in dance, acting, and modeling, which experience has made you the most proud and why? I was really proud to be featured in the Like Nastya music video and when I saw it for the first time I couldn’t believe that was actually me on the TV!!! What was it like walking in Miami Swim Week and New York Fashion Week, and what did those experiences teach you about yourself? Miami Swim week was so fun and gave me more confidence and took me outside of my usual comfort zone of dancing on a stage. This type of experience is very in the moment and you have to go with the flow no matter what so it taught me to just smile and keep going, no matter what! What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? I am working on making creative videos, as I love all aspects of filming and editing. I am using this year to just train & focus completely on myself, working on pure growth without competition! Plus, I have a huge passion for acting and modeling and am truly enjoying the industry! My dream is to go to a Performing Arts high school for dance & acting, then professionally dance in the commercial world! What inspired you to take a year to focus on personal growth rather than competition, and what do you hope to gain from it? I wanted to take a step back and just train and dance and not worry about any pressure or competition and really focus on movement quality and keep myself grounded in my pure love of dance! I am also challenging myself to try new styles and techniques in dance, specifically developing the area of control If you could land your dream professional dance, acting, or modeling opportunity tomorrow, what would it be? My dream job would be to go on tour as a dancer with a favorite singer or direct and dance in an amazing music video! What could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you? I can talk about Dance for hours because it is what I feel most passionate about and I am always having new ideas, thoughts and dreams that are constantly evolving! I am a work in progress and learning new things every single day. I have such a strong desire to work hard to be the best version of myself. What is one area of dance that has challenged you the most, and how are you working to improve it? One of my biggest challenges is to Slow Down and just hear & feel the music and I am working to not rush through choreography and instead to take my time and savor the process! What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? I have learned that I truly enjoy helping others feel more comfortable about themselves and that including the people that can tend to be left out brings happiness to my heart. I have a very outgoing personality, and I try to bring other people out of their shell and to encourage them to try things outside their comfort zone, in dance and in life! A big lesson my mom always reminds me of is to ALWAYS stay humble and to put ourselves in other people's shoes to be aware of their feelings! Can you share a time when you helped someone come out of their shell or feel like they belonged? I have a little sister who is one year younger than me and she often feels insecure about her friends, dance and her body and I go home and help her with choreo, learning new moves, and even her homwork. I give her a weekly pep talk to remind her how amazing she is! What advice would you give to another teen who wants to be more confident but is afraid to step outside their comfort zone? My advice would be to take a chance and to take baby steps! It is better to try new things than to regret not trying at all! What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you? My favorite memory with BaiYu is a three part answer because I knew her for a year before I was fortunate to meet her in person and my favorite memory is the entire weekend, especially celebrating her birthday, doing a photo shoot together in which I felt so comfortable and our circle time, discussing our hopes and goals!! What is one lesson or piece of encouragement from BaiYu that you know you'll carry with you into the future? From my time with BaiYu, I carry with me the encouragment to “always be myself” and to keep believing in who I am and who I want to be. Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like? I connected with BaiYu immediately after becoming an ambassador for Elevate Her, and it has been such an inspiring experience to work with her and to be evolving and growing together. BaiYu has made me feel "truly seen" and I feel encouraged by her support to "always be myself"! She has created an amazing sisterhood of girls through her designs and It's been such a great network to be immersed in, so focused on love and acceptance! What has being part of the ElevateHer sisterhood taught you about supporting and empowering other girls? Girls can be really mean and very judgemental, especially in the dance world but this sisterhood has taught me so much about unconditional love and support and what that actually looks like in real life! That no matter your level of dance, your size, your age, I always have a home with my EH sisterhood! How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? I heard about the magazine from BaiYu because she was featured in the magazine a few years ago and I am grateful to be a part of Inspiring Teens to continue to pay it forward to encourage and empower my fellow peers! How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you? A scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine would be such a tremendous help to myself and my family as dance can be very expensive and my parents are both artists and they work very hard to support my dreams. They often help do photos and videos at the studios just to offset the costs, and I am beyond grateful for the sacrifices they make for me. A scholarship would be a huge help! What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today? To be a choreographer for a famous music artist for their tour or music video and to dance on Broadway! What made you say “yes” to the Inspiring Teens challenge, and how did you feel when you first started? I felt nervous to enter this challenge since I am probably the youngest but I said Yes because I think the mission behind it is so awesome and inspiring, no pun intended! What is one moment during the challenge so far that has made you feel proud or realize you were growing - in confidence, mindset, or taking action? At first I was afraid to put myself out there and possibly fail, but seeing so many friends vote right away made me feel so special and loved! If another teen is thinking about joining the Inspiring Teens Magazine Leadership Challenge but feels unsure, what would you tell them? Take a chance on yourself and go for it!! Beyond votes or placements, what are you hoping to gain from this experience—and what would make you feel truly successful at the end? Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you get where you are today? I would like to thank my mom, who is truly my rock and always by my side, and my little sister Juno who is my biggest cheerleader and best friend! I also want to thank BaiYu with all my heart for this heartfelt nomination!! Is there anything else you’d like to tell us? I am teaching myself Italian and my favorite class at school this year is culinary! What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination? I LOVE to bake with my mom and my sister, and my favorite things to make are sugar cookies and blueberry coffee cake! We have so much fun in the kitchen together! 3 Things on your bucket list? Go to Italy Be in a Movie Ride in a hot air balloon Who do you find inspiring? I am most inspired by my mom. She has been a photographer her whole life and has always run her own buisness and is the most creative, dedicated & hard working person I know, while being the best mama to her 3 children. She is the ultimate multi-tasker and the best MOMmanager to me and drives me everywhere while still making homemade meals for us every single day! What is up next for you that you are super excited about? This weekend I am going to NYC and I have not been back in several years and so excited to be booked for 2 fashion shows! I am also excited to be at a new studio called Stars, which has always been my dream studio to attend and I am already learning & growing SO much!! • Kaylee McKee: Leading Through Faith, Service & a Dream of Medicine

Kaylee McKee – Texas Nomination by Kari McKee Photography by Daisy Jo Photography Issue 104 of Inspiring Teens Magazine Nomination: Kaylee McKee is a compassionate, driven, and servant-hearted young woman who leads with integrity, humility, and purpose. She is known for her strong work ethic, genuine kindness, and ability to encourage those around her. As an academically dedicated student, Kaylee is also actively involved in her Varsity Cheer Squad, competitive cheer team, HOSA, Student Council, NHS, National Charity League, and Debutantes. Through these organizations, she has completed more than 100 hours of philanthropy, reflecting her commitment to serving others with compassion and grace. She strives to make a meaningful impact through leadership, service, and excellence in every opportunity she embraces. What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about? I did mention my involvement in philanthropy but I would love to expand on my love for serving others and our community. My favorite organization to work with it Second Helpings, where me and my mom serve the less fortunate and the feeling of humbling yourself in front of others in unmatched. These people have gone through and represent a side of humanity that's not seen in some peoples everyday life. So for me to be able to see and help those who may not be able to help themselves, creates a emotional pull to help those even more and continue doing so. What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? My goal I am currently working towards is to get into one of my two dream colleges, Auburn University or Texas Christian University. In order to reach these goals I am taking difficult classes and mentally preparing myself for the time and commitment these universites may require. Along with taking these classes, I am also applying to many scholarships, so if I am lucky enough to get into one of these universities, I will have some financial aid to be able to pay for my education and opportunity into one of these colleges. What could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you? I could talk about my faith and my Family for hours and hours, this is because at the end of the day these are my main priorities and why I am the way I am. Every aspect of my life points me back to these two priorities whether its my education, sports, goals, health, and even friendships. My family never fails to support and comfort me when I try something new or when I fail along the way, but my relationship with Jesus is what keeps me rooted and continues to point me in the right direction. No matter where I end up in life I know I will have my family and the Lord to keep in my pocket. What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? I have learned that in order for me to be a sucessful leader within my life, I have to listen to others and become good at understanding to see the best possible way to lead someone in the right direction. Everyone is built and wired differently, therefore, everyone sees things differently. To be a strong leader I must understand how others take on situations and how I can adapt my leading techniques to best fit their style of following. Making them feel seen and understood to open up a deeper connection. What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you? The person who nominated me was my mom. My memory is not one specifically but a combination of the same one. Me and my mom do all kinds of things together including shopping, traveling, and even short errands, but no matter what we may do I always find myself sitting in the passenger seat while she listens to me ramble on and on. There is something about being in the car and putting my bare feet on the dash that hits all my emotions and makes me spill my thoughts to my mom. She has never once ignored my thinkings but instead expanded by asking me questions and helping guide me when my thoughts get too big. Sitting in the car and talking will forever be my favorite memory with my mom. I will never be able to replace the times I've spent in her car and times that I will spend in her car. Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like? My photographer's name is Morgan Glaspie. She was my freshman year basketball coach as well as my Biology teacher. She has continued to support me through whatever it may be I decide to take on (even if it is not basketball), and is someone I would trust if I ever needed anything at school. During our photoshoot she said something along the lines of “I cant believe we are taking these”, referring to my senior photos, this showed me that she has seen me grow up and mature throughout my high school years and cares enough to notice. She is one of the sweetest photographers that I have worked with always making me feel pretty and telling me how good the photos looked after they were taken. For anyone looking to take pictures and may be nervous I would immediately send them to Daisy Jo Photography. How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? I first heard of Inspiring Teens Magazine from instagram when me and my friend were featured in a fourth of July photoshoot we took together. I began to scroll through all the picture and saw how different they all were, not just the pictures but the people. I love being able to see everyone's differences, and how we all come together by being seniors and taking our next step forward to our futures. I would love to be apart of Inspiring Teens Magazine because of the opportunities it provides and how I can be apart of all the different people it represents coming together for one similar thing. Class of 2027. How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you? Earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine will help me reach my goal of being able to get into my dream colleges. Where I can further my education and be able to make something out of myself. I would love to be able to attend medical school someday and become a doctor, receiving this scholarship would take a huge weight off my shoulders so I would be able to attend college and save/gain money needed to be able to attend medical school later on. • Taryn Hartman: Building Her Future Through Leadership, Animals & the Skilled Trades

Taryn Hartman – Michigan Nomination & Photography by Caryn Dodson Photography Nomination: Taryn Hartman doesn’t wait for opportunities, she creates them. Driven, compassionate and fiercely independent, she has turned her love for animals into a business, raising and caring for more than 70 rabbits while giving younger kids the opportunity to experience showing at the local Youth Fair. She competes on her school’s equestrian team, works full time and is already pursuing her electrician’s license through her high school CTE program. Taryn leads by doing, teaches by sharing what she loves and proves that age is no measure of ambition. Whatever future she chooses to build, she is already laying the foundation. What other inspiring qualities, achievements, or experiences about you, not mentioned in your nomination, would you like readers to know about? In addition to the achievements mentioned in my nomination, I have earned my HAM radio license and OSHA 10 certification. Last year, I won Grand Champion Market Rabbit, an accomplishment I am especially proud of because of the time and dedication I put into raising and caring for my animals. I have also served as cheer captain and received the Coaches Award last year, which recognized my leadership, work ethic and commitment to my team. What goals, dreams, or projects are you currently working toward right now? Right now, I am working toward my career as an electrician. I will begin my apprenticeship this year while completing my senior year of high school, giving me the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and start building my career before I even graduate. My goal is to earn my electrician’s license and build a successful, independent future doing work that challenges me and allows me to continue learning and growing. What could talk about for hours, and why does it matter so much to you? I could talk for hours about animals, especially raising rabbits and riding horses. I have spent years learning how to properly raise, care for and show rabbits, and I love being able to share that knowledge with others. Riding horses is another huge part of my life and has taught me patience, confidence and responsibility. Animals have always been something I genuinely enjoy, but they have also taught me that the time, work and consistency you put into something directly impacts what you get out of it. What is something you have learned about yourself as a leader or influencer in the past year? Over the past year, I have learned how important it is to listen to others. Being a leader isn’t just about giving direction; it’s also about taking the time to hear other people’s ideas, concerns and perspectives. I’ve learned that listening and having patience with others helps me become a better leader and someone people can trust and depend on. What is one of your favorite memories with the person who nominated you, or something about them that means a lot to you? One of my favorite memories with the person who nominated me is going ice fishing together up north. I love being outdoors, and getting to spend that time together doing something we both enjoy makes those trips special to me. It’s the simple memories like that, being outside, fishing and spending time together, that I know I’ll always remember. Tell us about the person who took your photo — how did you connect, and what was that experience like? The person who took my photos is my cousin, so being able to share this experience with her made it even more special. The entire experience was phenomenal, and we laughed a lot throughout the session. Having someone I already knew and trusted behind the camera made it fun, comfortable and something I’ll always remember. How did you first hear about Inspiring Teens Magazine? Why does being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine matter to you? I first heard about Inspiring Teens Magazine through Caryn, my photographer, when she nominated me. Being part of Inspiring Teens Magazine means a lot to me because it gives me the opportunity to share the things I have worked hard for and hopefully inspire other teens to work toward their own goals. It is exciting to be recognized for the things I am passionate about and the future I am working to build. How will earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine help you? Earning a scholarship through Inspiring Teens Magazine would help me pay for my schooling and take some of the financial pressure off as I begin working toward my career as an electrician. It would allow me to focus more on my education, apprenticeship and building the future I have been working toward. Look for Taryn in issue 104 of Inspiring Teens Magazine! * Each interview is shared in the teen’s own words, so their authentic voice shines through.
