Gracie Schill – Ohio Nomination & Photography by Capture Life Photography by Davinda Issue 54 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Gracie Schilll is a kind-hearted, god-fearing young woman whose hard work and determination are obvious reasons why many would consider her inspiring. When asking a peer about her she immediately said, “She is strong. Not just physically, but mentally. If she has a goal or a dream, nothing is going to stand in her way of accomplishing that.” When asking her sister she said, “I admire Gracie’s ability to make people laugh. She can put a smile on anyone’s face.” As her photographer, I can tell you that her sweet smile and inner beauty radiates from the inside out. She is sweet, kind, and loving but as tough as they get on a basketball court. I believe Gracie is the perfect example of an inspiring teen.

What would you most like to be interviewed about? I would most like to be interviewed about my high school basketball season. Also, about my mini hat business that I just started this past winter and how I am saving that money for my journey to college. Additionally, anything about painting/drawing or art and writing poems.
Tell us about your basketball career. When did you get started, where are you with it now and what do you love most about it? I started playing in 4th grade and have played ever since. I will also be playing in college for 4 years. I love how much I have learned about leadership and being a part of a team.
What is a favorite accomplishment from playing basketball? My favorite accomplishment is going to the state final four my junior year. Getting to travel with my team and make so many memories along the way will be something I remember forever.
What is a favorite memory with your team? My favorite memory with my team is our holiday sleepovers at my house. We would play games together to win prizes and watch movies. Through these times it felt like we bonded most, and I cherish them.
What would your team say you bring to the court? I think my team would say I bring energy. I say this because I am more of a defensive player, and I like to work hard with the aspects of the game that I can always control.
What is the mini hat business you started? How did you think of it and how did you get it started? So, this started with me getting a hat maker from my aunt for Christmas. After I had successfully made my first hat, I knew it was something I wanted to try and sell.
What was the hardest part about getting the hat business started & how did you get past it? I would say the hardest part was buying all the products but still being able to make a profit. I got past this by trying to make limited stops at the store and to go when the yarn was on sale.
What have you learned about yourself along the way? I have learned that I have quite the entrepreneurial spirit along the way. But also more importantly that I love making things for people that they can use and say they got them homemade from me:)

How did you find Capture Life Photography by Davinda and how did you decide Davinda was the photographer for you? What did you love most about the planning and the shoot itself? Capture Life Photography by Davinda is extremely well known due to her incredible talent to make everyone comfortable and feel pretty! She did my sister's senior photos as well and we knew she had to do mine. What I loved most about the shoot is that it was her first shooting at the location we used so it felt unique and special. I chose Davinda because I knew we would have fun and I know how incredible she is at what she does. What I loved most is that she let me be myself in the shoot and she made a video part of my session, and it really just shows how much fun we had while doing it.
What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover? It does not cover that when I get to college I would love to pursue a business management degree in hopes to own my own business some day. I have tried having really small business ideas to sell stuff and make some money here and there. Another inspiring thing is I love making poems about deep feelings and relatable things that are not often talked about out loud.
What are you most looking forward to about college life? I am most excited about getting to form new friendships and to set myself up for my future in business. I am also excited to play basketball and continue to grow as a player and person.
What do you like to paint/draw & what is a favorite piece you've created? I like to paint really anything and I like drawing things with designs in them.

How long have you been writing poems and what do you write about most? I started writing poems in about 7th grade. I like to write most about feelings that I feel I see other people going through.
Here is one of the poems I wrote… The moon… No matter what happens under the moon, it’s easier to sleep when you’re happy, And it's harder to function when you’re sad, It’s easier to smile when you’re laughing, It’s harder to laugh when you’re mad, I may not know what the future holds, But I do know I need you to be mine, We might have to wait for the story to unfold, But it would be better without us on the line, I love you might be strong, Yet with you it feels so easy, And makes me feel like nothing is wrong, Without you I feel so queasy, I believe you are my forever, And that will never change, There may be obstacles along the way, But nothing I would rather exchange, Because no matter what happens under the moon, It will forever be me plus you. If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why? One thing I am passionate about and feel that I could talk about for a long time would be small business ideas. I feel that there is a lot that could be learned about this topic and it could be a fun and creative way for people to be able to be themselves more often. Look for Gracie in issue 54 of Inspiring Teens Magazine!
