What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
Agriculture has always been a passion of mine. I have been an active FFA member for four years and a member of 4-H for five years. I know various agriculture topics and have taken numerous courses throughout high school. Ag has taught me many life lessons about following your dreams and the importance of hard work. In the fall, I am attending
Tarleton State University, Majoring in Agricultural Development and Communications. After graduating from Tarleton, I intend to be an agricultural teacher and give back to our younger generation.

What are some of the Livestock Project competitions you’ve been involved in and what do you love about them?
I have been raising market goats for four years and pigs for one. Throughout my show career, I have grown so much as a showman. I have surrounded myself with the toughest exhibitors and challenged myself to always do better. What I love most about showing livestock is being in the ring and attending showmanship camps. As my breeder always tells me, it takes hours to be the best and to beat the best. I have
been participating in livestock judging for three years and have broadened my knowledge.

What is your favorite part about being a member of FFA?
FFA stands for Future Farmers of America. I enjoy being surrounded by people with the same hopes, goals, and dreams. I love that FFA has a variety of events for you to participate in. FFA has allowed me to find my passion, and I am excited to be a part of other people's journeys.

What leadership opportunities have you had within the FFA?
Through FFA, I have held leadership positions including Head of Record Books, junior chapter advisor, and NASP archery captain. Leading the archery team for four years now has afforded me the opportunity to strengthen relationships with younger chapter members.

How would you describe your leadership style?
Regarding leadership, I am a supportive and collaborative leader. I believe in working with my team, listening to their ideas, and empowering them to reach their full potential. It is all about fostering a positive and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and motivated.

What does the Title of a Duchess at the Waller County Fair entail on your end?
After the coronation and receiving the title WCF Duchess, my responsibilities included attending all livestock events, handing out awards, and being involved in backdrop pictures. I have been honored to attend point ceremonies and banner recognition at the non-livestock events. After the fair, the queen court will attend any events at the Waller County Fair or that pertain to the association. As the court, we represent the queen contest as a symbol of royalty and pride.

What are some of the community service projects you've been involved in?
I have been involved in numerous community service projects! One of my favorites was volunteering at a local animal shelter. It was so rewarding to help care for the animals and find them loving homes. I have also helped organize food drives and clean-up events in my neighborhood. It is always great to give back to the community!

Which is your favorite and why?
My favorite service project was "Project Linus." It was a service project where, as an FFA chapter, we made tie blankets and distributed them to local shelters and nursing homes. During this project, our culinary classes made cookies and sweet treats as a reminder that people are always thinking and caring for them.

What is your favorite class this year and what is the most interesting thing you've learned?
Culinary class has been my favorite class this year! I have learned so many fascinating things including exploring different flavor profiles and how to balance them in a dish. It is amazing how certain ingredients can complement each other and create a symphony of flavors. I also enjoyed learning about the cultural significance of various cuisines and how food brings people together. It has been a tasty and enlightening journey!

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I actively participate in organizations, such as Bridge the Blue, Community Service Advantage, and Houston Food Bank. Bridge the Blue focuses on supporting law enforcement. Community Service Advantage is an agency where I volunteer to help people with developmental disabilities. Once a month, I volunteer at Houston Food Bank to collect cans and take them downtown. I inspire others to give back to communities like ours that help us daily in ways we do not always recognize.

What is Bridge the Blue to you and why are you proud to participate in this organization?
Bridge the Blue is an organization that means a great deal to me. Law enforcement goes above and beyond for us every day, keeping our streets safe and fighting for every one of us. Police officers are not given enough credit for what they do, and this organization allows me to advocate for them.

Tell us more about Community Service Advantage and what you do to participate?
Community Service Advantage allows me to work with people with developmental disabilities and help with daily activities. My mom has been a case worker for 22 years, and I grew up in the environment. I look at people for who they are and do not judge. I had the opportunity to help assist in the Special Olympics for the past two years.

How did you get involved with the Houston Food Bank?
I got involved through my middle school, which holds monthly food drives and volunteer days to help and give back. I also had the opportunity to volunteer with them through my high school's food pantry organization.

What else would you like to talk about?
I am confirmed in the Lutheran Church. For the past seven years, I have been a Lone Star Cowboy Church member. My life centers around Christ and his biblical teachings. I have attended private school since Pre-K, which has strengthened my Christian core values. Weekly, I lead a Bible study for young women at my school called Friday Morning. This Bible study allows me to share my knowledge about how to be a biblical woman according to the Bible.

How do you share your Christian values with others - directly or indirectly?
When sharing my Christian values with others, I believe in leading by example. I live out my values in how I treat others, show kindness, and lend a helping hand. Sometimes, if the opportunity arises, I might have conversations with friends and share my beliefs, but I always try to do it respectfully and understandably. It is important to me to show love and acceptance to everyone, regardless of their beliefs.

How did you find your photographer, Angie Read Photography? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
I befriended Angie in my junior year through a friend. As a thoughtful and caring photographer, she feels like a second mom. Angie's passion for photography is evident in every session; she ensures my pictures reflect my true self, even in imperfect lighting. The Angie Read Photography Rep program has connected me with girls outside my school. Engaging in community service projects and self-defense classes has fostered a close bond. Angie's program goes beyond photography, creating a meaningful community through shared experiences and activities.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
You could find me in a barn somewhere. I am always seeking ways to expand my knowledge and improve my skills. Recently, I have started teaching showmanship skills to first-year students. I love the barn atmosphere, where everyone is always happy and ready to help!

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
I am extremely excited to attend Tarleton State University in the fall. When it comes to college, there are so many exciting things on the horizon! I am looking forward to exploring new subjects, meeting new people, and experiencing the independence of college life. It is a chance to dive deeper into my interests and broaden my horizons. I cannot wait to join clubs and organizations, attend agriculture classes, and make lasting memories. The college experience is just brimming with possibilities, and I am thrilled to embark on this new chapter!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
Keep going even when you want to give up. I have learned to push myself beyond my max to be the best version of myself.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
In five years, I plan to graduate college and start my adventure as an agriculture teacher to high school students.

3 Things on your bucket list
The top three things I want to do are travel to Cabo San Lucas, go zip-lining in New Zealand, and visit London.

How did you find your photographer,
Stephanie Boeshaar photography? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
My journey started with an English exchange program, where my host mother, a skilled photographer, made the experience truly remarkable. The sessions were so fun, we laughed a lot and you could tell they were filled work genuine joy. I particularly enjoyed the creativity involved, including outfit changes and exploring locations. My host mom's expertise shone through and made me feel comfortable. This experience not only enhanced my language proficiency but also gave me an appreciation for the art of capturing people in a genuine way.

What else would you like to talk about?
My family is a source of inspiration for me, but the one that provides me inspiration to forge ahead day after day is my mom. Her unwavering fight for my progress shaped who I am today. She lights my path, and all my achievements are owed to her dedication. Alongside, my brothers and sister provide strength and motivation, pushing me towards my goals. My family is a constant source of stability, offering support that has been important to my decision to study in the US. Together, they create a cheering team, inspiration that makes me want to make them proud.

Tell us about your family. Where do you fit in, and where do you stand out?
I'm the youngest among two brothers and a sister. In our family, I'm known as the joker, always aiming to bring smiles and create enjoyable moments for everyone.

What are some things you enjoy doing with your siblings?
I have loved bonding with my brothers through baseball. They taught me the sport from the very beginning. Weekends were often spent at the field, hitting balls and playing together. With my sister, our time was filled with laughter through movies and cooking. Although I didn't contribute much to the cooking, it was a shared experience that I cherish.

What is a family memory you will never forget?
An unforgettable memory was a trip to ¨Semuc Champey ¨. The trip consisted of going to visit the Semuc Champey river, a touristic place in Guatemala that we had never visited before. It was a trip that I will always carry in my heart because we spent quality time, we strengthened our relationship as a family, we laughed like we had never laughed before, we had unique experiences, I strengthened my relationship with my brothers and my mom. That is why that trip left a mark in my heart.

How did you get the opportunity to come to the US?

Thanks to my US host family, my life took a new direction. Following my three-month high school US exchange program, I returned to Guatemala to complete my high school studies. One day, my mom from the United States asked if I wanted to study there, and without hesitation, I seized the opportunity. Initially challenging, my decision turned out to be the blessing of a lifetime, and I owe it all to my host family.

What was the most exciting part vs the most nerve racking part of your experience in the move?
Understanding that this chance would pave the way for my own personal growth, and in academics, by providing the opportunity to study alongside field experts and building new connections and friendships. On the other hand, the prospect of leaving behind everything I hold dear – my home, family, friends, and sports – is deeply distressing. The realization that I won't be able to continue my journey with my loved ones, especially leaving behind my cherished home and dear family, brings a deep sadness but also an excitement of a new journey.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
Baseball isn't just a sport for me; it's my passion and a source of unwavering support. The discipline and perseverance ingrained in baseball have shaped my character. It's not just a game; we’re a family, a community of teens that work together to bring joy to each other through sport. Besides entertainment, baseball helps develop values, teamwork, and personal growth. Whether playing or cheering from the stands, it also brings people together, strengthening our community. Baseball, for me, isn't just a pastime; it's a profound connection that leaves a lasting impact on my life and the community that embraces it.

Tell us about your baseball career.
I started playing this beautiful sport when I was 6 years old thanks to my dad. When I was seven years old my dad decided to put me in a team called ¨Bronx¨. After 2 years our team won the first national tournament in my category. In that tournament I was batting leader, stolen bases leader, gold glove, leader of more runs batted in. After that championship I was called to be part of the national baseball team. Now I am just studying and at the same time trying to be part of a team.

What position do you play and why does it suit you?
I cover nearly every position on the field, with shortstop being my primary role. This position resonates with me due to my athleticism, making me quick and agile on the field.

What is a favorite accomplishment with baseball?
Joining the Guatemalan national team was a true honor, especially after being selected following our victory in the children's category championship. My first journey as a national team member was to Mexico, a moment that filled me with immense pride. Since then I have competed in various countries including Puerto Rico, Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Colombia. Notably, we secured a third-place position in the tournament in Colombia, barely missing the chance to advance to the Little League tournament in the United States.

What do you love about engineering and what are you excited for next in the field?
Contributing to individuals or communities is a rewarding part of many engineering professions. Many engineering paths offer the chance to create a real impact by solving important problems and designing solutions that benefit society. Pursing a career in engineering also enables me to perceive the world in a more analytical way. The idea of pursuing civil engineering excites me, as lets me to play a role in the maintenance, control, and operation of buildings and structures.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?

My love for Guatemala's culture, landscape, food, traditions and family capture my heart. The challenges disadvantaged communities face is a daily struggle and leaves a lasting impact on me, especially considering the shadow of government corruption that seems to roadblock positive change. My love for Guatemala is strong but the reality is inequality and corruption of government inhibits many aspects of life. Fortunately, USA education has become a refuge and has given me a wider perspective of careers, friends and opportunities I wouldn’t have had in Guatemala. It has provided an opportunity to navigate a more promising future.

What do you wish people who have never visited Guatemala knew about the community and culture?
That Guatemala is famous for its impressive handicrafts and textiles, which are hand-woven by local artisans using traditional techniques. However we Guatemalans are known for our warm hospitality and friendliness towards visitors. People usually welcome foreigners with open arms and are willing to share our culture and traditions. In addition, Guatemala is a country with a rich cultural diversity. Its indigenous people, such as the Mayans, have a deeply rooted history and culture that have influenced the country's identity.

If they were going to go visit, what is a must see or do that they would have to experience to get a positive impact?
There are three places that are perfect to get a good impression of Guatemala , among them are : Antigua Guatemala: This colonial city is famous for its well-preserved architecture, cobblestone streets and vibrant markets. Lake Atitlan: Considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, Lake Atitlan is surrounded by volcanoes and picturesque villages. Finally, Tikal is practically where the Mayan civilization lived. It is an archaeological site, located in the tropical jungle of northern Guatemala, has imposing temples and pyramids found in the jungle.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
In Guatemala, enjoying the day with my family, perhaps at a dinner in Antigua Guatemala, an amazing spot in the country to visit, creates a fun and happy atmosphere. It’s warm, friendly, full of life and activities. This would be my ideal way to spend a day, surrounded by my family, sharing experiences, laughter, adventures, and stories. The joy of being with my family brings a happiness and warmth that words can't capture.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
Completing my two-year studies at TCC and subsequently applying to the University of Washington Tacoma is my pathway to becoming what I truly aspire to be. I'm eager to learn more about the United States, its communities, and actively engage with them.

Ellie Denton – Tennessee
Nomination & Photography by Neely Roberts Photography
Issue 76 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Ellie Denton is inspiring because she loves being outdoors with her animals, going for a run, reading books, and trying new recipes! She stays busy as she is involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Farmers of America, and runs cross country. After graduation Ellie will attend Freed-Hardeman University, and double major in Bible and Kinesiology with plans to become an occupational therapist.

Picture
Photography by Neely Roberts Photography

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
My desire to go into occupational therapy comes from a class I took working with kids from my school with disabilities. After being in this class for two years I knew this was the path I wanted to take with my career. My desire to help other kids comes from personally receiving help with multiple surgeries as a young girl. I want to help others gain strength to do the things they desire.

What is your favorite genre of book to read, and what is a favorite book you recommend to anyone who asks?
Some of my favorite genres include historical fiction, mystery, and adventure. One of my favorites that I highly recommend reading is by Delia Owens, “Where the Crawdads Sing.”

What type of food do you love to cook and what is your go-to favorite?
I enjoy cooking Italian and Mexican foods, but one of my all time favorite dishes to make is Green Bean Casserole!

What is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and what do you do there?
Fellowship of Christian Athletes or FCA is an organization for athletes to meet for a devotional before school. This gets me started on a good note having a message from God to think about throughout the day.

Why is this organization important to you?
This is important to me because it brings change within the school through christianity.

Picture
Photography by Neely Roberts Photography

What are you involved in the FFA?
I don’t compete in any state competitions but I highly recommend getting involved in Future Farmers of America. I attend the meetings and participate in the after school activities at our AG barn and green house. Within my little time of being in the club I have learned so much about agriculture.

What leadership opportunities have you had as a result?
Speaking opportunities in front of large groups has been my biggest leadership since I am not involved in the competition levels.

What else would you like to talk about?
Running has become a passion for me over the last seven years. I started running in middle school and have continued to run ever since. Through the years I have become more familiar with nature through running. It’s a great way to clear your mind and refresh, especially after a long day.

What has been a favorite accomplishment with running?
Since Covid has made its appearance in our world, I have had major problems breathing during my runs. Through doctors’ help and perseverance, I am now able to run for miles without difficulty. So breathing during runs is a big accomplishment for me.

Describe a typical enjoyable run for you.
Running in the rain for about four miles through my hometown is the BEST!

Picture
Photography by Neely Roberts Photography

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I am very passionate about all animals. I have grown up on a farm and know a lot about how to work as a “farm girl.” I remember the first big birthday present I asked for was a horse. At the age of ten I started working with cattle and knew how to do anything that was thrown my way - including hay bales. I also enjoy our animals in the house. We have little dachshunds. I started breeding them last summer and absolutely loved it. I think animals have so much to teach kids through their life cycles.

What did you learn about breeding dogs that others may not realize?
There are a lot of uncertainties, and you have to be prepared for them. You have to prepare a special area for the birth, the diet of the dog has to be closely watched, and unfortunately, you have to be prepared in cases when a pup doesn’t make it.

Tell us about your first litter experience with the dachshunds.
My dog, Daisy, successfully had six puppies. I was able to witness 5 out of 6 births. Daisy wanted me to be by her side during the process. This was surprising because oftentimes animals want to retreat from humans during births and deaths. I was so amazed with it all.

How did you find your senior photographer, Neely Roberts Photography? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
I found Neely Roberts through social media. I knew some girls from my school that were on her senior rep team and I thought I would apply. She had reached out to me about the application, so I gave it a shot! My experience in working with Neely has been incredible. She is so sweet and she made me feel comfortable in every pose. During my session there were poses I had never done but she had confidence that I would nail them. I would highly recommend Neely to anyone looking for a great photographer!

Picture

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
I would be at home spending time with my family - trying something new in the kitchen or playing a board game with my mom.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
Going to college! I cannot wait to start this new chapter of my life. I am already buying some things for my dorm and making some new friends.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Working as an occupational therapist in a clinic. Possibly looking to settle down with that special someone!

What would you most like to talk about?

Tell us about your friend group and what you like to do together.
My friends and I are each other's support system. They are the people I can go to when I need a shoulder to cry on or even just need good company. I love watching movies and eating snacks while I'm with my friends.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I am passionate about helping people. Since elementary school I have wanted to work in the medical field. I hope to make people feel loved and seen. Sometimes life can feel lonely, but everyone has a purpose and I hope to help those around me understand that.

Tell us about a way you recently helped someone.
Recently I have been attending a middle school classroom to help students with their classwork. The stress of school work can be a lot, so helping them understand and complete this work in class can be a relief for not only the student, but the educator as well.

What are you doing now to prepare for a career in the medical field?
I have applied to my colleges of choice and have been accepted into nursing programs. I also have gotten job experience through shadowing in my Health Occupations class. This opportunity gave me an idea of what I want to plan for my future.

How did you find your photographer, Laura Lynn Rhode photography? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
I found my photographer through my mom. Laura had taken pictures for my mom when she had first opened her business. My mom had shown me some of her work and I immediately fell in love with her editing style. As soon as I had arrived for my senior session, I knew it was going to be an amazing experience, and that it was. She gave us the warmest welcome, and made me feel incredible. I loved her energy all throughout the shoot. You can see that she loves what she does.

What has been the best part of your senior year so far?
The best part of my senior year has been getting all those last moments with my peers. The senior events, like Senior Sunrise really put this last year of high school into perspective.

What legacy do you hope to leave behind to underclassmen?
I can only hope that I have been a good example of being kind. I dream that they will do the same. You never know who you are influencing, so being kind will lead to a greater good.

What do you have planned for summer for graduation?
The summer after graduation I hope to spend a lot of time saving up money for school, while also being by the lake. I really enjoy summer activities like water skiing and paddle boarding.
If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you? On a day off someone could find me watching “This Is Us” on Netflix while drinking a coffee and wrapped up in a warm and cozy blanket. I also enjoy reading my bible, so adding a devotional into my day would be ideal.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
I am most excited about what my future has in store. Currently I am still deciding where I would like to attend, but I know wherever I go there will be new opportunities all around me. I look forward to getting to experience life outside of my hometown.

Tell us why you wanted to graduate high school early and what you are doing now.
At 12, I started looking at my life plan to age 19 and I wanted to achieve goals that wouldn’t
work with a traditional path. By choosing to finish high school early, I will be able to have my degree finished in time to be on to go on a mission for my church at age 19. Right now, I am enjoying the choices that I have made, I’m enjoying college, serving at church, and have been picked for one of the lead roles in my college play. I’ve also been learning Japanese, and loving it!

What is your favorite class right now, and what is the most interesting thing you've learned?
I am excited about my public speaking class! I am learning how to best present myself and learning to communicate my message better to others. These are skills I can use in all aspects of my life. I look forward to presenting myself better as a Follower of Christ.

What do you love most about college that is different from high school?
I completed high school early, by choosing to use a two-year homeschool program. This was a lonely route! I love sitting in class again, chatting with classmates, and all the other simple things that I didn’t get while completing high school. While all great goals come with sacrifice, I’m glad to be walking school halls again with my peers.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
Living in a small rural area, I try to create fun, safe activities for teens. I work with members of the community, getting sponsors, to create events that have reached young people in a 100-mile radius. My events have reached hundreds of teens. These activities have helped create healthy Christian friendships that are so needed in small communities.
I have served in my church and youth group for many years. My love for my Savior has been a large motivator in my goal-setting. I plan to have my Radiology Tech degree before serving a church mission when I turn 19.

What community events have you run for teens?
I have built and run many events in my small community such as: Teen game nights, Community Game nights, Nerf Gun battles, dances, and weekly teen socials for my church. I have also been part of helping other nearby cities start their local events.

Tell us about your favorite community event and why it was your favorite.
The Nerf Gun battle has been my favorite! This is because it brought youth from over 8 cities together! We had teens ages 11 to 18 in attendance. I built an amazing team of people who believed in my vision enough to help me bring it to life! Becca Murray listened to my ideas and helped by providing the venue, snacks, decorations, etc. She is a huge reason I have been able to accomplish the work of “safe places for teens” in my sweet town as much as I have! We plan to create many more events together!

What have you learned about the teens in your community because of your events?
We are better together! We are strong! When you give teens a safe place and creative outlets, their personality shines! Covid hit us teens hard. We lost a lot of our social skills and even motivation to leave the house. Events have helped create safe places for teens to venture out and learn how to have fun again. I enjoy meeting new people at these events. Seeing kids my age enjoying themselves and meeting new friends has been the best reward ever!

What has your leadership style been throughout the process of creating these events?
I have surrounded myself with amazing people. I have learned what motivates them and have learned their strengths. Having everyone provide their feedback helps make building events so much easier. I listen often to all the great ideas, then we decide the best outcome. I have also realized that I can delegate assignments to those who are naturally more skilled in certain areas. We have an amazing team that can create an event rather quickly! Delegating, trusting, and building together, I feel, are big parts of my leadership style.

What else would you like to talk about?
It has been a hard journey with many discouraging my alternative choices and goals. I believe that age shouldn’t define what you can and cannot do. The youth of this world have the power to make a difference now and we just have to keep fighting for causes we believe in and find great people to help. Teens have a voice and can do amazing things to make the world better. If young people can gather together often in safe places and lean on each other, we can be an impossible force for good.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I love my Heavenly Father and Savior who have given her the courage to make smart goals and keep fighting for the things that matter in life. I love all things nerdy. I enjoy board game conventions, Harry Potter, Brandon Sanderson books, and Winnie the Pooh. I love meeting new people. I love being around like-minded people and am fueled by their energy!

What is your favorite board game and why?
My favorite game changes regularly. Right now, Ultimate Werewolf is my favorite game! It's easy to teach people and plays an unlimited amount of people. It’s a good way to make new friends. Werewolf is in the social deduction genre of games. I love games where everyone can join in, laugh, talk, and everyone can win!

What book would you change the ending if you could - and to what?
I love my books! I love to see why the stories go in the direction they do and watch the characters grow in the book. However, in DragonWatch 1st series, one character’s story didn’t progress how I wanted for him. In the first book series, Seth started to grow and mature into a character that I loved to watch throughout the series. However, by the 2nd book series, he reverted to the immature boy he was before. Reading how Seth’s character loses growth and maturity in the story was unfortunate to me. I feel the book series could have used a different method or introduced a different character to create the amazing story without losing Seth’s maturity.

What do you love about Winnie the Pooh?
I grew up with my dad singing Winnie the Pooh songs to me and we would sing them together. He would have the stories memorized and would quote them. I got my first Pooh Bear at age one. My dad is a huge inspiration to me. He gets along with everyone and is in constant service to others. I would love to be more like him. He is such a teddy bear! Me and my dad still love singing Winnie the Pooh songs together to this day. I love Pooh Bear because my dad loves him, too!

How did you find your photographer, Loretta K. Wall Photography? I found Loretta on Facebook and have been following her amazing work for some time. I was impressed by her range of photography. She has done so many things. Her range was what inspired me to get photos from her. Her photos were unique.

What was your experience like?
Loretta was amazing to work with! She made Emily feel comfortable and welcome. This amazing Senior trip adventure they went on was great and an experience she will hold dear her whole life. Emily was treated with the same respect as everyone else invited on the trip. Emily felt she was on a road trip with her friends. Loretta created that environment so quickly!

What did you love most about it?
When asked if Emily qualified to attend a senior photoshoot, she welcomed her and validated her right to hold the title. Emily never felt younger than, or less than anyone else on the trip. She was one of the seniors. With so many discouraging Emily’s journey, Loretta made her feel like she belonged. Loretta didn’t just take great pictures, she took Emily to amazing sights and she had great experiences traveling to amazing places with her.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?

You would find me in a group of people. I’d be with friends or making more friends to add to my group! I love opportunities to meet other amazing people. I love learning, laughing, and listening to others. I love hearing what inspires them and knowing their stories. People are one of God’s greatest blessings on earth, with everyone being a child of God.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
It feels like the sky’s the limit at this point! I feel I’m on the path I want to be on and plan to stick with it. I will continue to help my 4 younger siblings reach their potential. I have loved reading with them, studying scriptures together, and helping them learn new skills. I plan to continue to create great events for my friends and community. I will also continue to grow my knowledge of Jesus Christ by attending my early morning bible study class daily. I hope to always serve in my church and show up big for the people in my life.

What is the hardest thing you have ever accomplished, and how did you do it?
Besides completing high school from home in two years, the next hardest thing was having surgery. My appendix almost burst when I was 7 years old the recovery took a lot of time. My parents have always been great at knowing my limits and encouraging me through all of life’s challenges.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
You have to look ahead at your life and plan out each step. Check your sacrifices and your rewards on this path then prepare to enjoy your journey.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
I’ll be 21 in 5 years and I hope to be home from my 1 1/2-year church mission. I hope to be stable with my career and ready to support a family of my own.

What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination?
I have been learning Japanese through Duolingo for the last year. I love learning new things and this has been my favorite pastime.

Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
I can do impressions. I have loved developing this skill and practicing imitating my favorite voices.

3 Things on your bucket list
Going on a church mission is something that I want to do and am so excited to share Jesus with others!
Traveling is something I'd love to do more of. My amazing photographer took us to many amazing sites and now I want to see it all!.
Going to Universal Studios and Harry Potter World is something I want to do! Just to nerd out like crazy!

Who do you find inspiring?
My mom and dad are the most inspiring people I know and they have also pushed me to be the best person I can be! I am grateful to have a home that has taught me the importance of growing a relationship with my Savior!

What about you inspires others/why do you think you are inspiring?
I’m the oldest of 5 kids. I hope they see my love for my Heavenly Father and my goals for the future and are inspired to be their best self.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
Thank you for this opportunity! I have a hard time making things about myself. This has been a humbling experience to be acknowledged in this way. It means a lot to me. Thank you!

Haley Wyer

Picture

Haley Wyer – Georgia
Nomination by Joy Bennett
Photography by Chad Trammell
Issue 76 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Haley Wyer captivates young, old, male, female, strangers and besties. Her smile invigorates rooms and her essence lingers long after her. How? Is it her dynamic color guard dancing or beautiful worship singing? Is it serving basic health needs to Nicaraguan children at K.B.Carter Memorial Institute or serving disadvantaged youth at Spirit Horse Camp and Young America? Academic greatness, perhaps? She is remarkable for all of this (and more), but her power to inspire comes from authentic inner qualities. Haley Wyer is charismatic and compassionate. She equally cares for others as she is fascinating to behold.

When did you get started in color guard and what do you love most about it?
I began color guard my freshman year of high school. What I love about it the most, are the friends I have made through guard and how they push me to be a better version of myself every single day.

What is one of your favorite color guard experiences?
My favorite guard experience was when we won Grand Champs for the 7th time in a row. I was so excited knowing that I played a role in each of those wins and that I was a working member of a team who was good at what we did.

What do you love most about working with your dance consultant, Joy Bennett?
Mrs. Joy is sweet, compassionate, hard-working, and committed to what she does. She gives good advice and is there for whatever you need. However, what I love most about her beautiful soul is that she never gives up on you. When I work with Mrs. Joy, I feel like no matter what I do, or how I mess up, she is always there to pick me back up when I fall.

What is your favorite memory of worship singing?
I love the moments when everyone in the room is singing. When the entire group is praising God together, everything else in the world melts away. One particular night at summer camp we sang Good Good Father. We had no microphones, no stage, and no fancy lights, but everyone was singing. Not a single person was embarrassed to lift their voice in praise, and it was truly amazing.

Do you have a favorite song- and if so, what is it and why?
I do not have a favorite song, but I really like the song Lord I Need You by Matt Maher. I like it because it is an easy song to sing, remember, and it is so true.

How do you serve basic health needs to Nicaraguan children at K.B. Carter Memorial Institute?
This year I am taking a trip with a group from my school to go and serve. My classmates and I are simply helping out with a clinic to make sure that the school children are healthy.

How did you get involved with it and why is it important to you?
I got involved in taking this trip through HOSA. This trip is important because I have so much that I take for granted, and I live in a bubble but sometimes it's good for that bubble to pop. I am not taking this trip to feel like a superhero, because a superhero is not always what people need. When a superhero swoops in and fixes a problem, they often create bigger problems in the process of trying to help. I am taking this trip to build relationships, create community, and show love to everyone I can.

What have you learned serving disadvantaged youth at Spirit Horse Camp and Young America?
I have learned that life is absolutely beautiful in ways that I never would have thought it to be. When working with the youth at Spirit Horse I get to witness children from all walks of life come together despite differences to create something bigger than themselves. When working with the youth from Young America, my eyes are opened to the needs of our community and the appreciation each child shows for everything. These organizations have taught me to appreciate the smallest things in life because what may seem small to me could mean the world to someone else.

What leadership opportunities have you had in this capacity?
Through Spirit Horse and Young America, I have learned how to work through differences, understand difficult situations, and appreciate the small things in life.

What is your greatest leadership skill?
To lead, one has to know what it feels like to make a mistake and receive forgiveness for that mistake so that one understands how to forgive others when mistakes are made. I value forgiveness because I know that the only perfect one to ever walk this earth was Jesus Christ, and until he comes back one day no one will be perfect. It’s not right to hold the people in your life to a higher standard than you hold yourself to. I cannot expect to be forgiven if I am not willing to forgive others.

Picture

What inspiring things does your nomination not cover?
Perspective changes everything. My perspective on life is what fuels my passion and gives me the strength to face my fears. Some people may look at a rainy day and think of it as depressing, but like to think of it as a chance to dance in the rain.

What else would you like to talk about?
Our society today has lost many values that humanize us and enable us to function as a successful group of people. Love, respect, and compassion seem to have been lost in the consistent war between friend and foe. People would rather rip apart a stranger than have a challenging conversation with a brother. By fighting one another we have created a battle that will never be won. Everyone walks a different path in life, and until we can see the beauty that lives in our differences we will never be at peace.

What do you feel passionate about and could talk about forever?
I can and will forever talk about my faith. Christ has brought me so far in my life, and I cannot help but speak about the wonders he has done for me. He is with me in my lowest moments, but he is also waiting to celebrate my successes with me. When I fall, his hand is extended to help me back up. I do not deserve his love, yet it is a gift he freely gives to anyone who accepts him. God is good, and he will never fail.

How did you find your photographer, Chad Trammell? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
My photographer is a friend of my mom’s so we knew him before our photo shoot. During the course of our session, the photographer was willing to work with my ideas and make my visions become a reality. By working with me, the photographer created a fun, exciting, and professional atmosphere. What I loved most about the photo shoot was how he made me feel like a real model.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
If I had all day to do nothing, you would find me in the woods, near a stream, lying in the grass underneath a tall oak tree listening to the delicate songs of birds, and whispers of the breeze.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
Up next for me is the next chapter of my life. I am about to graduate high school, and though I don’t quite know exactly what the next chapter of my life looks like just yet, God does and I trust that he will lead the way. However, I am super excited to see where life takes me, who I become, and what difference I can make.

What is the hardest thing you have ever accomplished, and how did you do it?

The hardest thing I have ever accomplished was passing both the Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy courses at my school. I got through them by hard work, determination, grit, and prayer.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
I would tell them to never give up on themselves. Life is not always easy, and sometimes it just flat-out sucks, but by pushing through with hard work, grit, determination, and prayer, you can get through anything.

Where do you see yourself in five years, what are your plans?
In five years, I see myself graduating college with a BSN and working in the medical field somewhere.

What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination?
I love to hike and experience nature in any way that I can.

Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
Nope, I am an open book.

3 things on your bucket list
I want to learn how to scuba dive, Swing dance, and trick ride on horseback.

Who do you find inspiring?
I find my Mama to be inspiring because she never quits. No matter the circumstance she always puts me and my sisters first, and she sacrifices everything to care for those around her.

What about you inspires others, why do you think you are inspiring?
I think what makes me inspiring to others is my empathy and grace. There is always a reason why someone is the way that they are, and though I may not immediately understand why, I know that their life might look drastically different than mine and they may need that smile in the hallway or that forgiveness for their mistakes that morning.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
I would like to say that forgiveness is one of the most important gifts you can give in life, to yourself and someone else.

What would you like to talk about?
I would like to talk about my career. More specifically how I am the youngest screen writer to have their film produced in America, I would also like to talk about the films and plays I have done and my new script and novel I have in the works.

Tell us about the feature film you produced. What is the genre and what is it about?
Hope is a Faith based family friendly drama about a family's world that gets turned upside down, but by the power of faith, Hope and love they managed to get through it.

What inspired you to write a script for a feature film, and what inspired you to write about that subject in particular?
Ever since I was young, I loved to write. And when I got into acting, I wanted to produce a film of my own, so I wrote a screenplay. I wanted the script to have a positive message, and as someone who has dealt with loss I'm real life, I wanted to bring comfort and positivity to those who have gone through the same thing in their lives.

Picture
Photography by Marissa Smith

How did you go about getting it from your hands into the hands of someone who could help you get it produced?
Well, this is actually a funny story. I was on the set of Miracle Manchester with Dean Cain, who plays Superman in the Adventures of Lois and Clark. We were talking about how his father had been a film producer, and how he made films. I mentioned to him that I had a screenplay. He asked if I had it with me. I pulled it up on my laptop and he loved it! Dean presented the script to the owner of JC Films, Jason Campbell, and told Jason that if he would produce the film, he would love to be a part of it, and the rest is history. So basically as they say, Superman came to the rescue!

What was it like starring in the film? Tell us what a typical day is like making a movie.
Starring in the film was my dream come true. A typical day on a film set usually starts when the sun comes up and ends late at night, but in between those times there’s a lot of waiting around while they film other scenes. There is a saying in the film industry , “hurry up and wait”. We start off with hair and make up, then go to wardrobe and get dressed for the scene you are shooting. Then you talk to the director about what shots you’re doing, read through lines with the other actors and then you shoot your scene. They can be very long days, but it’s not work when you love with what you’re doing in my opinion.

Picture
Photography by Marissa Smith

What other films have you been in?
I’ve been blessed. I’ve done 18 films in past 2 years, most are in post production still. You can watch Miracle at Manchester and Twitter Files on JC Films Plus streaming service as well as on Prime Video, Tubi, etc. Chowchilla is available on HBO Max and sometimes does reruns on TV. Hope will be on streaming services any time.

Which was your favorite and why?
Hope is very special to me because I got to see it come to life from start to finish. From an idea in my head, to my pen and paper, to Dean Cain, and then to production was pretty amazing!

What do you think others might not realize about being an actress?
Acting starts from the first step auditioning. A lot of people don’t realize it takes 100 auditions sometimes to get that one yes. You must have thick skin and a lot of patience in this industry, but it’s all worth it in the end.

What is your new script about and what drives you to get it finished?
My new script, A New Believer, is a story about how a father and daughter’s relationship grows through pain and suffering from his past. The father‘s childhood was extremely painful. The story is based solely on the daughter, trying to bring her father to discover his Faith.

Picture
Photography by Marissa Smith

How would you describe your writing style - and your writing strategies?

The first step of my writing process is to plan out the characters. I like to map out who they are, what they like or don’t like, their goals etc. Then I map out the plot and where I see the story going. Once you start to write your story, you can always make changes. I have learned with Hope, you are never done writing until you wrap on the film. Changes are made on the fly while you are shooting scenes, and sometimes things just look or feel better on Film while you are in the moment.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I believe my hard work and dedication to my craft and everything I do hopefully can inspire others. I am a Christian girl. I only choose to do Faith based or family friendly films because I don’t want to do anything that is not honoring God, or promoting evil.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I could get into a conversation with anyone who would listen about Harry Potter and Animals. I have read all of the Harry Potter books and seen all of the movies. I also have six dogs who I could spend all day talking about!

How did you find your photographer, Scott Hayes Photography? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
We found Scott Hays out of Scottsdale AZ online. We also have worked with AZ local Steve Chadwick, but thought we would reach out for a different style of photography. Both Steve and Scott are amazing artists.

Ashley Harris

Ashley Harris – Pennsylvania
Nomination by Jennifer Harris
Photography by L. Welsh Photography, LLC
Issue 75 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Ashley inspires me with her sense of purpose as she pursues her dreams. She works hard to complete every task that she starts. I have learned patience, empathy, creativity and the ability to see the world through her eyes. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, she was my biggest supporter. She was there for my surgery and other appointments. She said that she always knew she wanted to be a nurse, and going through this with me has only reinforced this decision. I know that she will make a wonderful nurse someday. This is why she's inspiring!

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
Something I think that is inspiring about me, is  how I work in a dress shop and help women find their dream dresses. I have helped girls looking for homecoming/prom dresses or brides looking for that perfect dress for their big day. I am able to take the time to help them go through dresses and make recommendations as to what I think they may like. It always makes me feel good when they find that perfect dress and know that I was there to help them.

What have you learned about working with women and teens in looking for their perfect dress?
I have learned so much while working with women. The most prominent thing is that everyone is different. You never know what to expect when someone walks through the door. Most of the women and young ladies I have helped dress are some of the best people out there.

What do you wish most women knew about dress shopping?
I wish people knew that dresses look very different on the hanger than they do on. A dress may not look the best on the hanger but look amazing on. I big part of my job is showing people the dresses they might not like in the hanger and convincing them to give it a try.

What dress styles for prom do you find most attractive?
I think slits are the most attractive. I love when dresses have one but you don’t see it until they walk. It’s always a very fun surprise. I also like when dresses have sparkle. It’s gives the dress an extra element to it.

What else would you like to talk about?
Something I really enjoy is skiing. It is an escape. I find to be relaxing and thrilling at the same time. I started skiing when I was ten. I only took one lesson and the rest is history. I am a part of the Ski Club at school and also have a season pass. I love hitting the slopes on the weekends with friends. One of my favorite things to do is beat my speed record.  I enjoy the rush! Flying down the slopes at 40 miles per hour with the wind in your face is exhilarating.

Where do you like to ski the most and why?
I have always skied at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. It is my favorite place to go because it has so many different slopes to choose from. I could go up the same lift 10 times but ski a different trail each time.

If you could ski anywhere in the world, where would you go and who would you take with you?
If i could ski anywhere in the world, it would be in Switzerland. There mountains out there are huge. You could go up some lifts and it will take you at least 20 minutes to get to the bottom. I have also seen many images of their mountains and they are beautiful. I would love to go with my dad because he is the person who taught me to ski.

What do you think non skiers might not realize about skiing?
It is not easy. It’s something that i have spent many years doing and I still have a lot of room for improvement. It also takes patience when learning. You will get frustrated and you will want to quit, but you eventually get the hang of it.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
The one thing that I feel passionate about is baton twirling. I started taking lessons when I was in 7th grade. Prior to starting lessons, I self taught myself by watching videos. By doing this I was able to move up in classes quickly. I eventually became part of the junior competition team. A year later I moved up to the senior team. One of the best things about being on the senior team is spending time with friends. I love working so hard to complete routines as a team and solo, and then getting to perform.

How did you find your photographer, Laura Welsh Photography LLC? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
I found out about Laura Welsh through one of my teammates on my competitive baton team. From the moment I met Laura, I knew it was going to be a great experience. I am a part of her Senior 2024 modeling group. She spent a lot time on all my photo shoots (team and individual) and had a ton of great ideas as to where to go, and what poses worked best. The best part is that she made it fun. There was so much laughter and she just knows how to put you at ease.

What are you most looking forward to in the second half of your senior year?
I am looking forward to starting my adult life. I am ready to graduate and get the rest of my life started. This is just the beginning and I’m ready to keep moving forward.

What legacy do you hope to leave behind to underclassmen?
I hope to leave the legacy of being a good person and kind to others. Throughout high school I have done my best to be nice and help others when they are in need. I hope the underclassmen will do the same throughout their schooling.

What are you most looking forward to the summer after graduation?
I am looking forward to traveling. I have many trips planned for this summer. These trips include: Punta Cana, Europe (France, Switzerland, and Germany), Notre Dame for my national baton competition, and possibly a trip somewhere in Florida. I have a busy summer but I’m so excited for it.

How would your friends describe you?
My friends would most likely describe me as a quiet but bold person. I am either quietly doing my work or talking with a big group of people.

What is your friend group like and what do you like to do together?
My friends consist of many different people from many different groups. One of my favorite things to do with my friends is go shopping. Even just talking in the car with my friends is a great time.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
You would probably find me in bed reading a book with one of my puppies by my side. If you couldn’t find me there you would probably be able to find me at the mountain skiing.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
What’s next for me is college. I am going to be attending an undecided 4 year college to major in nursing. I don’t know what I want to specialize in yet but I expect to figure that out while in school.

Billy Deluhery

1/19/2024

Picture

Billy Deluhery – Iowa
Nomination by Pamela Deluhery
Photography by Wanderlust Photography
Issue 75 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Billy is 17 years old and has a passion for volunteering with a community light display, weightlifting and playing high school varsity soccer. He enjoys helping others, working hard and being outdoors. Billy’s early life story is unique. He was gifted to his mom as an embryo and has 5 biological siblings. He maintains a healthy relationship with his biological siblings and their parents, Billy lives at home with his mom and two younger siblings who were adopted from foster care. He’s a positive role model for them. Billy attends a Catholic school and is in the National Honor Society.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
Beginning at 4 weeks of age, I was exposed to volunteer service at a homeless center. As I grew, I served drinks and desserts.
Beginning at 3 years of age, I helped change out light bulbs for a large community Christmas light display, Symphony of Lights. As a teen, I have continued to volunteer by assisting with set up, and gate admission. This experience has given me the opportunity to work outside with others in cold/very cold weather for 14 years.
I have also completed school related community service one day twice a year beginning in eighth grade.

What else would you like to talk about?
I would like to share how my work experiences have shaped me. At 16, my first job was remodeling houses for a small contractor. I worked inside and outside of the properties. My second job was as a welding apprentice at a local fabrication shop. I worked in the shop as well as in the community at job sites. My coworker and I found $5000 inside a vent of a homeowner. We gave the money, which had been missing for years, back to the homeowner. These jobs have strengthened my values of integrity, problem solving, accountability, respect, ambition, and dependability.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I began playing soccer at age 4. I will never have Lionel Messi’s talent, however, I continue to build my soccer skills. My first two years of High School, I had little playing time and was a benchwarmer. Junior year, I started in 17 games. The coach now uses me as a model of hard work and dedication.

I attribute the growth of my soccer skills and self confidence with weightlifting. 3 ½ years ago, I was introduced to weightlifting by a basketball coach. He coached me for 1 ½ years. Independently, I continue my passion for weightlifting.

How did you find your photographer, Wanderlust Photography? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
Tricia, the photographer was chosen by my mom due to the high quality family pictures she had taken in 2022. I loved the way Tricia made the photo shoot fun and relaxing. The location I chose was new to her, and she enjoyed exploring areas of the location as much as I. She asked me questions about myself and my favorite music. She played the music during the session. She asked me about what I wanted included in pictures (truck and cowboy hat). Lastly, as her gift, she took some special, surprise pictures of me with my mom.

Kimber Keil – Michigan
Nomination & Photography by Colleen Keil Photography

Nomination: Kimber Keil is an inspiring teen for many reasons. She has battled chronic health issues and an autoimmune disease that went undiagnosed for years, but despite these challenges, she has remained resilient and strong. She takes care of her physical and mental health, and advocates for the same with others. In addition to these obstacles, she has a life-threatening peanut allergy and hopes to open an allergy-friendly bakery someday. Her story is a reminder that even when life gets tough, it is possible to find joy and positivity in the midst of challenges.

However, preserving the planet is incredibly important, and considering my love of nature I would like to do my part.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?

I met my senior photographer because she is my mother. We had quite a lot of fun during my session, experimenting with various different areas and lighting situations. I chose to put effort into the Arkansas Period Poverty Project because this is a cause that I am passionate about. How did you get involved in Arkansas Cinema Society's Filmmaking Lab for Teen Girls?
I have always loved movies and television shows. At school, I saw a flyer, which piqued my interest, and decided to join.

What do you love most about what this organization does?
I love that the Filmmaking Lab is an inspiring and safe place for young teens to tell their story through filmmaking.

Tell us about your filmmaking process for your short film.
We began the program by learning from experts in the industry about the role each person plays from directors to gaffers. The first step in the filmmaking process was to create a pitch for our story line. Each of us spent time researching and putting together a storyboard for their idea. After a pitch was selected, we worked with an experienced writer to create a script. We auditioned multiple people for each role, and eventually, we found our cast. We assigned roles to each of the team, with me becoming co-director, and then, we began shooting. After shooting, we worked with professional editors to edit the film.

What was the hardest part about co-directing this short film vs the easiest.
The hardest part about co-directing was trying to combine my co-director and my ideas together, as we were two different people, creatively. The easiest part was when we began filming and directing how the shot should look.

When it was said and done, what was the most rewarding part of this experience?
This short film has made it possible to reach out to a larger audience and potentially impact teens who have been struggling with this issue, especially with the continuous problem of the media glorifying diet culture.

My favorite experience in the robotics field is working on building the robot and planning the strategy for competitions.

What do your duties as co-captain of your robotics team entail?
As co-captain, I oversee what each section of the team is doing and communicate with our sponsors.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I could talk about music forever. I love discovering new artists and finding out why an artist wrote or created a song. Anytime I meet someone new or am starting a conversation, I always ask what music or artists they are listening to. I will talk to anyone who is interested and always wants to discuss their opinions on certain techniques or instruments used in songs.

How did you find your photographer, Shimsha Jain Photography? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
I knew my photographer, Shimsha Jain, prior to my session, so I reached out to her for my senior pictures. At the start of the session, I felt a bit awkward as I was not used to being photographed. After a few shots, my photographer made me feel comfortable and I was able to loosen up, which led to me enjoying the photo shoot. The thing I loved most about taking the photos was the way I felt in the outfits I chose for the photos and she captured my confidence on camera. Thank you to her for nominating me.

What else would you like to talk about?

Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I first started playing piano when I was five and enjoyed having an outlet for my creativity. Tell us about your tennis career.

One of my passions is tennis, I started playing tennis in the 7th grade, I love training in the mornings, and giving everything I can during each game and each season, more than anything I have taken it for fun, because I know that it is important to maintain physically healthy with a sport that you really like and tennis for me is the most fun, it has also given me the opportunity to meet my best friends who are really good at playing tennis, in reality I take it more as a healthy fun! but I don't rule out the possibility of continuing playing later, it will always be my favorite sport!

What do you love most about playing this sport?
Everything, I like everything about tennis, each training takes me to a level of improvement in my skills and physical conditions, I have always liked exercise and in tennis the types of training really help you stay healthy and in shape, and it also requires a level high concentration to be able to play at the level of your teammates, but ultimately I think that the most appreciated thing that tennis has left me is the brotherhood that exists among my friends, the best people in the world for me, they are in tennis, they are kind, sincere They are very cooperative and are also worth gold to me. Getting my friends involved in this sport while we have fun is the best thing apart from developing very healthy physical conditions.

When did you start playing violin and why did you choose this instrument?

The violin for me is a very interesting instrument, its sound leads me to think about the beauty of the classical combined with the ability to play a stringed instrument. At first it was a real personal challenge since when I started the first year I really didn't We practiced a lot since the world was impacted by COVID-19 and everything stopped, my first year was not very good, but thanks to the perseverance and perseverance that my teachers have helped me have, I have been able to improve my skills and develop a greater pleasure in what comes out of playing my violin, it has cost me work and effort to practice more, but thanks to that I feel that I have improved a lot and it is something that I enjoy a lot and it makes me feel good! I know that I can improve even more and I also know that only practice helps you achieve the best of yourself.

What is your favorite genre of music to play? Do you have a go-to song when people ask you to play or you just feel like playing? What is it?

I really love all genres, but definitely Marichi, Mexican music is my favorite, we can play anything, including also classical and international songs, but there is one called that really fascinates me because it not only involves violin, but it envelops. to all the instruments, then each session can demonstrate their skills in a certain part of the song, we all have a lot of fun when for example; The guitarrón can play its part, the trumpets or the guitars can play, and of course playing on the violin throughout my session during that song is where we have the most spirit and have the most fun, since I know that music is a set of many things. that make everything seem like magic, that's what I like about music, and of course, my violin and that’s the song that I always have ready to go and I always be!

How did you get involved in the mariachi group?

It all started many years ago when my mother and I danced in Mexican and Venezuelan folk dance, from there a special interest in instruments started and I definitely loved the violin, its elegance and how elegant and interesting each and every one of them looked. mariachis dressed in their uniform, giving beautiful sounds of wonderful songs to those who hear them and appreciate their talents, I love dancing, but making music and being part of who gives you that magic of playing a musical instrument is really incredible and I enjoy it a lot, giving smiles and leaving something memorable in the hearts of the public is what keeps me wanting to move forward with my mariachi, I really enjoy it and I had the opportunity in 7th grade to join high school mariachi, that's where my passion began.

Where do you perform and what has been your most memorable performance?

Usually in events and presentations at our High School in Uvalde, in special events, inaugurations, in Mother's Day events in restaurants, in churches in competitions, this year we are with all the energy and positivism to bring back to our school the title of mariachi champions, last year we won and I hope to have the privilege of being in that competition, on the other hand I think that the most memorable memory of mariachi is when I sang for the first time, and it is memorable just because that was my first time, the second time was better and it was exciting, but the nerves of my first time made it unforgettable. I remember that the name of the song was “You are no longer of interest to me” and I remember for part of the song, I think the audience liked it more than me. voice, my attitude and the grace with which I tried to dance a little, to make it more fun and feel more confident, that was in the auditorium of our high school here in Uvalde, I would return to it. sing a thousand times!

What dances do you study? Which is your favorite and why?

I also really enjoy dancing, 12 years ago, when I was only 4 years old, I started at the Uvalde ballet academy called “Classical Académic” I was there for a few years, then I did some Mexican folk dance, and the truth is that I bring the rhythm in the blood since my mother is dedicated to teaching aerobic fitness dances from which I also have learned a little, I think that alone and dabbled in dance more for fun, for a hobby than anything else, if I had to choose one of the genres I think Folklorico accentuates me very well because of my Latin blood, but I have not considered it as a career, but rather as a hobby.

What has been your most rewarding dance experience?
When I was in 4th grade, I entered a Talent show at my school and created my own choreography using ballet knowledge for the song Frozen, everyone was impressed with my own choreography without help from anyone, I was only 7-8 years old and I won second place in the competition, I must admit that the boy who won played the piano very well, the truth is we were very happy with the results even though I did not get first, many people congratulated me for the ability to create my own dance in a single way. completely original way.

What field of medicine do you plan on entering and why did you choose this?
Radiology is extremely interesting to me, but also one of the reasons that drive me to study radiology is because thanks to these exams, human beings, with the help of technology, can have the ability to early detect diseases as dangerous as, for example, cancer. , among others and I feel in my heart to be able in one way or another to help people prevent such serious diseases and to be able to detect them in time to help improve, I have lived closely with members of my family on my mother's side, they have gone from this world, just for not having an early arrest, I want to help be part of a team that helps prevent, cure and help people who suffer from serious illnesses, helping others is my goal in this life, like himself Jesus taught us and I followed in his footsteps using this field of medicine as a tool for me is extremely important.

What are you most looking forward to learning about in this field?
As I explained previously, for me it is very important to help people in the early detection of diseases that today can be cured almost entirely if they are detected in time, I know that technology will advance and that perhaps very soon the part The technique of this field is displaced by advanced technological machinery, so after spending some time working in the technical part doing the exams with the machines, I want to continue studying until I become a doctor in Radiology and thus be able to continue with my work of control, prevention and Raise everyone's awareness about the importance of having a healthier lifestyle that includes dietary improvements, an active lifestyle and of course giving my future patients the necessary tools to be and stay healthy. Helping others is my greatest goal. staff, thank you all for the support and your expressions of affection. always grateful!

What leadership opportunities have you had in your school?
At Southern Academy I have had the opportunities to lead in the student body, National Honor Society, spanish club, rum for positions as a class officer, along with team captain positions.

What is your strongest leadership quality?
In my opinion, I believe my strongest leadership quality is encouragement. Being a leader is not all about the way you handle stressful decisions or how well you can organize things. As a leader I encourage others to push themselves out of their comfort zone so they can reach their full potential as a student, athlete, and overall self.

What do you love best about being a leader in your community?
Being a leader in my community comes with new challenges every day. As I accomplish a new goal I have set for my community is a new smile I see on someone's face. Seeing someone enjoy their environment and wear a smile on their face is what makes me feel most rewarded as a leader in my community and that is what I love most about having this role.

What does being president of your school's student body entail?
Being president of my school's student body entails representing student's opinions and being the primary voice to my school's administration. This includes running meetings amongst my officers for new ideas to increase school spirit, give back to the community, and to support our state's project.

What legacy do you hope to leave behind?
If I could leave anything behind, whether it is to one person or as an entire legacy, it is to live in the present. Do not dwell on the past because it will stop you from moving forward. Do not excite yourself with the future or you will not make memories. As a senior I am guilty about being so excited about the next chapter of my life that it consumes my train of thought. Life flies by and if I could leave anything behind it would be to encourage each person to live in the present and be grateful for every small moment.

What is AISA and what do you love most about it?
AISA is the Alabama Independent School Association. I became a student in this association in the 8th grade. What I love most about this association is how much people connect through it. It feels as if everyone from every school knows each other. This association feels like home and that is the best part about the AISA.

What responsibilities do you have as a district representative in the AISA organization?
My responsibilities as the District 1 representative of AISA entails being the primary voice of the schools inside of our district. I feed and gather information to and from the state president and district 1 so everything runs smoothly in our state conventions.

What are the ALA Girls and why is this organization important to you?
The American Legion Auxiliary Alabama Girls State is an association met at Troy University where girls spend a week learning about the government and running for positions. This organization is so important to me because it allowed me to go represent my school as a delegate while making life long friendships. It is truly such an inspiring week to help young women learn more as an individual and to show off our individual talents.

What is your role in the Future Medical Leaders Congress as an alumni vs when you participated?
My role as an alumni allows me to go back to another week long congress to represent the dedication I have in my desires to be in the medical field. When I participated I got to sit and listen to noble prize physicians along with watching a live surgery. It was a remarkable experience and opened my eyes into other options that are in the medical field.

What is a rewarding achievement in the Spanish Club?
A rewarding achievement in the Spanish Club is to become completely bilingual. Every student tries their best every day to become better at pronunciation, listening, and translating so we are more diverse in the future and can communicate with those who are not experienced in the english language.

What is a fun memory from the Scribblers as community club president?

Tell us about your softball career and what you love about the sport.
I have been playing softball consecutively for 14 years. I play in all 4 seasons in a year. This has became such a constant routine in my life. It grew a special bond between me and my father. It gave me new friends across the United States. But most importantly, softball gave me memories, ones that I will never be able to replace. Softball has been what I am most "known" for. As I am about to graduate I have made the decision to finally retire from this career and focus on my future. Softball has given me 14 years of the best times in my life. This sport will always hold such a huge place in my heart and I am extremely thankful for playing it as I have grown up.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
If I had all day with nothing to do, you would find me painting. Painting is a time where I can relax and be free of thought. I love to turn music on and paint, even if I don't know what i'm going to paint!

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
Graduation! I am super excited about this particular time in my life because I have dedicated 12 years of my life to get to this point. It is something that I have not fully comprehended because I have never experienced it before but it is a check mark on my list of goals for my future!

In 2021 my family and I went through a very traumatic emergency, losing my step dad to mental health. Although it has been a roller coaster of ups and downs fo us it has really opened my eyes up to the criminal justice /phycology field. I have always had a love for criminal justice and the people brave enough to go into such an intense field and firmly believe now that I am one of those people. I want to be people's light at the end of the tunnel or moment to breathe in an incredibly hard situation, meanwhile learning more about the human brain and ways to help society.

Drill team has made a huge impact on the person I am today. This is my fourth and final year on my High Schoo team and I am blessed with the honor of being captain.
Dance has not only shown me my full potential and to push through even when I feel like giving up, it has taught me dedication and responsibility. Reaching the position as captain has truly been one of the best gifts to ever receive. Helping direct and perfect such an incredible team with so much love and dedication from not only the directors but every member is an experience I will never forget, always hold close to my heart, and has helped me earn the privilege to be able to help other drill teams in texas with choreography.

Tell us about your soccer career.
I've been playing soccer for 15 years and club for 7. I traveled a lot during the 7 years of club soccer, going to all of the surrounding states to play every weekend and at one point my home field was in Ohio ( I live in central Kentucky). During my high school career, I have won awards including the 2020 The Frankfort State Journal Traditional Bank Athlete of the Week, 2020 golden boot award, 2021 most assists, 2022 Capital City Classic All tournament team, and 2023 District All tournament team.

What is a favorite memory with your soccer team?
My favorite memory with my soccer team is all the bus rides we had going to away games, and then going out to eat after. Another one of my favorite memories is a team sleepover we had after we had won the Capital City Classic Championship. Everyone is like a family on the soccer team and that is one of the best parts about it.

What position do you play and why does this suit you?
I am a strong, aggressive player with great field vision and foot skills and that is why I play midfield. I am a great distributor, which is a key component if you play in the midfield. I have also played as a forward, but midfield is my natural position.

What are you most looking forward to playing for Midway University?
One of the things I am most excited for is getting to know all of the girls and being able to compete at a high level.

Picture
Photography by Jim Tincher Photography

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
One thing that I am very passionate about is soccer. I have been playing soccer for 15 years and have played club for 7. Playing soccer has taught me leadership, communication, teamwork, and it has also helped me develop friendships. I tore my ACL my junior year and missed half of my senior season, but I strived to get back to normal and did physical therapy for 11 months. The thought of getting to play soccer again really helped me push through all the struggles. I came back from my injury early and have now signed with Midway University.

How do you balance your social life, athletic life, and still keep a 3.4?
I balance my social and athletic life by trying to get as much homework done as possible during the school day so I will not have to worry about it at home. I am taking 4 dual credits this year, so it’s definitely harder to get everything done during the day, so when that happens I will have to prioritize my academics over social life.

What do you love most about playing softball?
One of the things I enjoy most about softball is being able to play it with some of my best friends. Having good coaches is very important in order to excel and enjoy a sport, and thankfully I have the opportunity to play for great coaches.

What is a favorite softball accomplishment?
My favorite softball accomplishment is when I was 1st in runs and 2nd in stolen bases out of my whole team my sophomore year. Unfortunately I was unable to play my junior year because of an injury, but I am super excited to be back this season!

What role do you play in the drama club? Where do you fit in, and where do you stand Out?
In the drama club I am a part of the tech crew, so I help out backstage, move props, and also help build props when necessary. I enjoy helping out behind the scenes and also hanging out with two of my best friends who are also a part of the drama club. I love being able to be involved even if I am not out on the stage.

What is a favorite memory with this group?
This is my first year of being a part of the drama club, but my favorite memory so far is when we did The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and getting to be around my friends while also putting on a good show.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
Another inspiring thing about me is that as a senior in high school, I have taken and passed the state exam to become a CNA (certified nursing assistant). In order to achieve that I had to pass all of my exams, check off on many skills, and work in a nursing home for clinical hours. In the spring, as one of my classes, I plan on taking phlebotomy in which I will earn my certification.

What else would you like to talk about?
I am a member of the traveling panthers with my school. My sophomore year I went on a trip to Italy, Greece, and Crete. We visited so many cool places including the Colosseum, Pompeii, the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica, St. Paul’s basilica, the Trevi fountain, the Pantheon and more. We took a Ferry across the Sea to get to Greece, and during the night we went through a big storm. In Greece we went to Mycenae, the Epidaurus, Olympia, the Acropolis, and more. The flight to Europe was my first time flying ever, and it was over 9 hours!

How did you find your photographer, Jim Tincher Photography? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
I was picked by my photographer to be a senior model. We started our shoots in March of this year and it will continue into 2024. We have lots of photo shoots that he sets up, and we can also set up our own. We have a lot of creative input, so if we have an idea he is always up for it. In June, we went to Charleston as a destination shoot and it was so much fun! We did sunrise, sunset, downtown shoots, iconic looks, beach barbie, and also did a photoshoot at Magnolia Gardens and Charleston college.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
If I had nothing to do and all day to do it, I would probably be hanging out with my friends. I love spending time with my friends and getting to make great memories with them.

Interact is a volunteer based club at my school. Through this organization I have the opportunity to be a leader in my community as a volunteer.

I like to take pride in sticking out in the crowd because I do not want to be like everyone else. I encourage kids around me to follow their dreams and to never change for anyone but themselves.

What else would you like to talk about?
I grew up in a single parent household. Despite the many obstacles I have had to face, I persevered. When my family and I moved to Lufkin we chose to not let our past define us. I wanted to change, not just for my family, but for myself. My education has always been my top priority. I am now in my senior year, starting to see my hard work pay off.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I could talk about the law forever. I have been passionate about law since I was a kid. I grew up around people who had trouble with law enforcement. Seeing the cases of people getting killed and their murderers getting off, made me passionate about the subject. Not too long ago, a kid that I knew was killed when she was outside playing. We live in a world where there is constant violence going on somewhere. There are innocent kids getting killed. That is why I can talk about the law or injustice forever.

Simple, at home sleep or watching Rick and Morty.

I don’t think people realize the intensity of being a CNA. It is a lot of hard work, especially now being low staffed. There are very confused residents and there is always the possibility of you experiencing pain or mean things being said.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I feel very passionate about the need for CNAs in the healthcare field.

What is the hardest part about waitressing vs the best part?
The hardest part of waitressing is rude guests. It’s hard to do my job when people are taking anger out on me for something f I have no control over. The best part is the incredible people I meet everyday.

What could every human being do to be a better guest at any restaurant?
I believe everybody could be more patient in restaurants to be a better guest.

My favorite book I have read was “ It Ends With Us” because it was very touching, i felt very connected to the characters and the plot in the story.

I feel i could write a better ending to the movie “A Star is born”.

How did you find your senior photographer, Janet Roberson of BluMoon Photography? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
As a freshmen in high school i reached out to Mrs.Janet and asked her to take my pictures. After this I became a blumoom model and have done so for that past 4 years. We do so many fun and crazy photoshoots and working with her has been such an honor.
