What does your dance routine/workouts entail?
My typical dance schedule is Monday through Saturday. I dance about 15 -20 hours a week and it’s a lot but I truly love it and the studio is my second home. I cross train on my off days and during the summer to keep in shape and keep flexible and strong, I sometimes go to the gym to do that or sometimes I choose a yoga class. When I work out it’s mainly for back, legs, and arms that are specialized exercises for me.

What is your favorite type of dance to study/practice and why?
I dance most styles including ballet/pointe, contemporary, modern, lyrical, jazz, musical theatre, I teach, but my favorite and the one I spend most time with is ballet and pointe work. I love ballet so much; I love it because it’s the most challenging and you can never be perfect at it no matter how hard you try. I am truly passionate about ballet since I have started my ballet journey 13 years ago.

What do you teach and what do you love about it?
I teach ballet to 5-6 year olds and also ballet to 9-11 year olds. I am passionate about teaching and handing down my training and teaching others who are also passionate about dance as much as I am.

What is a favorite memory from dance?
It’s so hard to choose, I would probably say my favorite memory is my first ever dance recital. I was 4 years old, and I was really nervous about being on the big stage for the first time and parents weren’t allowed past a certain point. I had a really fun time, and it was very exciting.

Why did you choose Be Bold Photography? What was your experience like? What did you love most about it?
I first discovered bee bold photography on Instagram and messages Hailee to see what kind of photography she does and see what she had open since I had seen her work before and it’s amazing! I have always had a fantastic experience with Hailee, she pumps me up and compliments me and shows me the pictures, she’s patient and kind, and she is willing to meet halfway so I don’t have to drive all the way to Palmer!

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I am family based, I value my family so much and try to spend as much time with them even when at the dance studio 6 days a week. I work and try to support and help around the house with keeping it clean and letting them know I appreciate everything they do and just as a thank you to them for supporting me in everything I do and strive to do.

What fun things do you like to do with your family?
We love to hunt, fish, camp, bike ride, take the dogs on a walk, we all love to cook. I love to bake for everyone and most of all I just love spending time with them, it doesn’t matter to me what we do, I just want to see them.

What is it like growing up in a military family?

Growing up as a military family, we would move on average every 3 years. I have moved a total of 6 times since I was born. Even though we moved often I am able to say I have friends in several states, and it has allowed me to adjust to new situations very quickly and easily.

Tell us more about your cheer career.
I did gymnastics for about a year when I was 8, then we moved, and I decided to not to do it. Then once I hit 8th grade I decided to try out for the middle school (JV) team. I had never cheered or did much Tumbling ever; I was also very shy! My parents were shocked when I expressed my interest, but supported my decision. I tried out and made the team! I started as a main base in middle school and once I went to Highschool I became a flyer. I always said I wouldn’t fly due to not liking heights. However now… I absolutely love it!
What I love most about being a cheerleader is being part of a team who shares the same goals of being the best and staying the Champions we are known to be

Tell us a favorite memory from cheer.
My favorite memory for cheer is winning State, Nationals, and Worlds
If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why?
-I would talk about the cheerleading world and help them understand the true dedication and passion this sport takes. That spending on average 20 hours a week preparing for our competitions and victories is something that doesn't come easy to a team.

What do you want to share with us about your brother's heart transplant and how it affected you and your family?
My brother was born with a rare form of muscular dystrophy. His heart was not supposed to be affected. One night he was fine and the next he was being rushed to the ER. My brother was so ill that we couldn’t make him laugh, he couldn’t get out of his hospital bed without the possibility of going into cardiac arrest. His heart was 5x larger than it should have been. He was being placed on a surgery schedule for a Berlin heart to help pump blood though his body and take the strain off his heart until a donor became available. After a total of 30 days from the day we found out about needing a transplant and only 8 days on the wait list, he received his angel heart.
This experience has made me appreciate life more and never take things for granted. Family is the most important thing! Always be there for each other, you never know when you may or may not have them.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I am a dedicated and disciplined athlete and student. I love to be a regular teen and have fun with my friends.

How did Covid-19 affect you personally with your schoolwork while you were still trying to maintain such a high GPA?
Covid-19 has made me more disciplined with my schoolwork. Over the past year and a half, I have had to learn to teach myself and become more self-dependent. Covid-19 has refrained me from reaching some of my goals but overall, it has made me a strong student with my academics

Why did you choose Bailey Anderson Photography for your senior portraits and what did you love best about your photoshoot experience?
I had seen Bailey’s work though some of my friends Sr. pictures. I absolutely loved how she was able to capture everyone’s natural beauty and not edit every single flaw. She was able to capture my photos exactly the way I had always thought my photos would turn out.
During the photo shoot I started out nervous, but Bailey has a way of getting you to calm down and just be yourself. I loved the way she took her time to make sure she had everything perfect. You can see the passion she has for her photos during your shoot. She smiled and laughed the entire time. We love her work and dedication so much, that we booking again for another shoot to end my Sr. Year.

Michaelyn Sample - Kentucky
Nomination by Makenney Alsobrook
Photography by Laney Fletcher Photography
Issue 50 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Michaelyn is the most loving, hardworking sister, aunt, student, daughter and friend anyone could ask for. She puts 110% into everything she does. She is her own worst critic because she wants to do everything just perfect. She loves with all her heart and gives like Jesus would want her too. She is so good with children. They love her. She will help anyone in anyway she can. Michaelyn is the middle sibling with me as big sister and little brother xander. She participates in FFA, Soccer, National Honor Society and church on top of school. She is taking 5 college classes as a JR in high school this semester! She deserves to be recognized for all her accomplishments. She has a beautiful voice too and sang and played guitar at my wedding. My sister is blessed with talent! She has won multiple speech competitions through FFA and competed Regionally! She also won locally and in the district last year for a talent competition for FFA. My sister is a go getter in all she does.¹

What are some of the things you love to do with children?
I love to dance around with kids. Kids don’t care what people think so they dance with their whole heart. It is very fun and they teach me so much.

What else should we know about you?
I am an FFA officer which is a pretty cool accomplishment for me, it has led to me being able to go on many trips through my school and experience and learn a great deal. I also get a lot of leadership experience this way as I am expected to help run meetings for the school club with my amazing executive team. I have always been somewhat shy and FFA has really made me more outgoing.

What has been a favorite accomplishment with FFA?
As a freshman I was on the senior parli team and got to compete with all the older kids. It was a big responsibility, but I was incredibly proud to be selected by my peers and advisors for the task.

What leadership experiences have you received through it.
I was able to attend Kentucky FFA Camp and Leadership Training Center this past year and learned a lot about planning events and setting goals for teams. I also help plan monthly meetings for our school.

How are you involved with the NHS? Tell us about a favorite community service project in the NHS that you've participated in.
I am able to do a lot of my community service on my own. I have helped decorate for weddings, passed out food to the homeless in Nashville, I have also taught third graders about where their food comes from, and ran pedal pulls at our local festivals. My personal favorite was Farm to Plate Where I got to teach the third graders about food origins.

Tell us about your Soccer career.
I have played soccer since I was six years old. I love playing even if we don’t always win. I was very fortunate to get to play even through the pandemic. My all-time favorite memory is winning in a pk shootout that had been delayed for two weeks my sixth grade year. It was absolutely amazing.

What type of music do you like to sing? Do you have a go-to song?
I like a little bit of everything when it comes to music, but I tend to lean toward very emotional songs because I like to sing with lots of emotion. My go to songs are Tin Man by Miranda Lambert and Traveling Soldier by the chicks.

What was your photo shoot like with Laney Fletcher Photography?
It was my sister's wedding. Laney is amazing and made the atmosphere so fun; she also kept things professional when the time called for it.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I am included in a large group of American teens (one in five) that suffer from mental illness. I particularly struggle with anxiety. It has been a large part of my life ever since I was a little and I used to be very ashamed of the way I felt, and sometimes I still am, but I believe there is a reason God has put this in my story. I can relate to people in an entirely new way because of it and tell how my amazing God brings me out of even my darkest days.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why?
I could talk forever to my peers about how being different is not a bad thing. The things we think are odd about ourselves and the things we keep hidden are the things that make us extraordinary. God doesn't make mistakes and we should never feel ashamed.

What is the hardest thing you have ever accomplished, and how did you do it?
I had to admit to my mom that I needed to talk to someone about my anxiety. I was terrified but I had to remember that getting better wasn’t just something I was doing for me, but for everyone around me.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
Pray about everything!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
I want to be a behavioral analyst and work with kids who have special needs on their behavioral and communication issues.

What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination?
I love to watch friends. It’s been my favorite show since elementary school.

3 Things on your bucket list
-go to Greece

Who do you find inspiring?
I think someone who is afraid but faces the fear is someone who I respect highly and they inspire me to do the same.

What about you inspires others/why do you think you are inspiring?
I think that me facing my mental health issues head on is inspiring. From my experience, I know how hard it can be. I hope people see that I did it and know they can do it too.

Parker Orlando

Photography by Ponnie Jackson

Parker Orlando - California
Nomination by Morgan Orlando
Photography by Ponnie Jackson & Stephen Hopson
Issue 50 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: I doubt history books will touch on the adverse effects the pandemic had on teens, but I witnessed firsthand my sister, Parker Orlando, take her struggles and turn them into her motivation. As a high school freshman, isolated sitting at home on zoom, Parker decided to homeschool and focus on tennis. She practiced five hours every weekday and played tournaments every weekend. Experiencing burnout, she decided to walk away from tennis, a very hard decision. Parker focused on her mental health and is now back in person at school, with a 4.0 GPA, and plays number one on the tennis team as a sophomore, a true role model in these times.
Picture
Photography by Ponnie Jackson

Tell us more about your tennis career and team.
I began competitive tennis about a year ago and it took me a few months to realize that tennis was not and could not be my entire life. When I began my sophomore year I realized that joining the tennis team might make me love tennis again and it did. Being a part of a team is an amazing experience because your teammates become your friends who encourage you throughout the tennis season and school.

What is a favorite accomplishment from being involved in tennis?
My favorite accomplishment from being involved in tennis is growing mentally. Tennis has taught me so many things, so many that I can't choose one to highlight. Playing this sport has made me mentally tough and that is a huge accomplishment.

What was your tennis photoshoot like with Ponnie Jackson & then Stephen Hopson? What did you love most about it?
The photos that Ponnie Jackson and Stephen Hopson took of me were completely unexpected. I wasn't trying to impress anyone, pose a certain way or look like someone I'm not. I love that the pictures were candid, I was simply focused on my match.

Picture
Photography by Stephen Hopson

How do you cope with being a perfectionist when you know you need to move on?
When I feel like I am not good enough or cannot get over a mistake; I just try to accept that I am human and that everyone makes mistakes. In the moment that is a difficult task to accomplish, but reminds me to take a deep breath and let things go.

Share with us your journey with your relationship with God.
During the COVID lockdown my faith in the world and God deteriorated. I finally decided to quit homeschooling and competitive tennis after experiencing severe burnout. A while after this decision, I learned that my self worth didn't come from how many matches I won or lost, but by how I treated other people, how I worked hard, and by how I tried my personal best each and every day. If I didn't have a little faith in God in that time, I would not have overcome and learned from that experience.

Picture
Photography by Stephen Hopson

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why?
If I were to present a topic to a group of my peers, it would be about how your self worth doesn't come from wins or losses in sports, letter grades in school, popularity, or money; rather it comes from the content of your heart. Once you focus on treating others with kindness and respect, and working hard to achieve your goals, you realize that impressing other people is the least impactful thing one can do for their self worth. If everyone focused more on their heart and intentions vs. materialistic things, then the world would be a better place.

Emily Mae is in 11th grade and excels in academics and is Vice President of Beta this year and a nominee for the Governors Honor program along with treasurer of the junior class.

Photography by Cheri Edmunds
What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I am currently in the 11th grade, and during the summer of 10th grade I moved to a new school. While it was very scary, I was able to get very involved in my school because I had confidence in myself. I was able to be the treasurer of my junior class and the Vice President of my school’s beta club after a month of being at my new school.

What is Beta and what does your role as president entail?
Beta Club is an organization of students that have all As. The main goal of the organization is to serve the community through community service projects. I am actually vice president and as vice president, I mainly aid the president in deciding what community service opportunities would be best for our club and organizing those opportunities.

What do you love about this organization and your role?
I love that Beta is service-focused because being a part of it always reminds me that no matter what I am doing in life, I always have time to give back to my community. My favorite part of being vice president is that I can help my other club members give back to the community.

Picture
Photography by Cheri Edmunds

With all of your leadership roles, what do you feel is your strongest leadership skill?
My strongest leadership skill is my integrity. I am a very honest person, and I want to try my best to lead my peers in the right direction no matter what. I stand by my morals and my faith in every situation, which leads me to be a steadfast leader.

Tell us more about the musicals you've been in. Which has been your favorite part to play and why?
I have been in about 20 musicals since the 6th grade and have greatly enjoyed every part that I have played in every one of those musicals. But, in the 9th grade, I was able to be in a production of Frozen Jr., and I got to play Sven the reindeer. I had the best time playing Sven because he is such a fun-loving character and it made me happy to play him.

What is National Thespian Society and what do you do in it?
National Thespian Society is an organization of students that all have 100 hours or more of theater experience. Thespian Society meets throughout the year to discuss the events that we will do at the annual convention.

What community service opportunities have you had? Which one do you find you spend the most time doing?
I have had too many community service opportunities to count, but a few of my favorites have been volunteering at an after-school special education program, tutoring other students, and helping people in nursing homes. Most of the time I spend serving I have either spent it tutoring other students or making cards for nursing home residents.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why?
If I were to present a topic to a group of peers it would be about how important it is for children to be comfortable in a hospital setting. In very stressful situations such as being in the hospital it is imperative that kids understand what is happening to them. If kids are comfortable with being in the hospital, their hospital stay, and treatment will be more calm and smooth for everyone involved.

Brianna Wright

Brianna Wright - Michigan
Nomination and Photography by Amanda Rider Photography
Issue 50 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Brianna currently attends Eastern Michigan University enrolled as a senior in high school (Milan) with the ECA program. Taking on 15 credits this semester. Upon graduation, Brianna will have completed 60 credits of college classes taken from her program through ECA. She plans to obtain a degree in Environmental Engineering with a Bachelors. Her community outreach to teens at her church as a previous youth group leader shows true inspiration to those that look up to her. Brianna continues to support local businesses by working at a local orchard for the 2nd year. This girl is definitely strong willed.
Picture
Photography by Amanda Rider Photography

Tell us about your school. What do you find most challenging about your schooling?

I have attended Eastern Michigan since 9th grade. I have been taking college classes since my 10th grade year, allowing me to accrue credits toward an associates degree. The most challenging thing about attending the ECA program would be that there are limited social interactions when compared to the traditional high school setting. Academics is considered the main priority.

What is the ECA Program?
The ECA program is an opportunity that allows students to earn up to 60 college credits for free. I am proud to be part of the Early College Alliance. The program has allowed me to get ahead in my college career by graduating my senior year with a college associates degree.
I am on the student council in the ECA program. I contribute to the program by volunteering my time to help new students navigate their way around campus. I help organize events there as well.

Tell us more about your career plans for after you finish both schools.
After I finish with my Master's I plan to move to Northern Michigan. I plan on finding a job that allows me the flexibility to work outside and enjoy our natural resources. I would love to join a field that allows me to help preserve our natural water sources.

Picture
Photography by Amanda Rider Photography

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
Limited social interactions at ECA encouraged me to expand my social circle. When looking for opportunities to build new relationships I found a youth group that welcomed me with open arms. I fell in love with the youth group and the community. They helped lead me to God and taught me how to build a strong relationship with God. I became a youth leader at my church to help encourage other teens to accept Christ and help guide them through their walk.

What did you love most about being a youth group leader and what did it teach you?
The thing I love most about being a youth group leader is helping other teens build strong relationships with Christ.

Picture
Photography by Amanda Rider Photography

Why did you choose Amanda Rider Photography and what did you love most about your experience?
I chose Amanda Rider Photography because we are close friends of family members and have really enjoyed viewing her previous Senior pictures online.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why?
Bullying, it should be a topic of discussion with teens of all race, creed, ethnicity, etc. Teenagers are at the most impressionable age to make a stand to do the right thing for each other. People should be there to uplift one another. Encourage each other. Share knowledge and to brighten someone's day. Helping those around us starts at a young age. Be the one that makes the difference for someone else.

What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination?
Raising Meat Ducks. Raising ducks has helped me to understand the importance of caring for live animals. Raising ducks has also given me an insight on how to provide for yourself and your family.
Picture
Photography by Amanda Rider Photography

Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
I like to play the violin. I also like to bake. During Covid I would bake from scratch. Zucchini breads, banana breads and cakes of all sorts. I really enjoy baking.

What about you inspires others/why do you think you are inspiring?
My mother would say I am strong willed. I was born with an condition that went undiagnosed until age 3 causing me to have lifelong kidney disease (Hydronephrosis Stage IV ). I have had to undergo 10+ surgeries as a child, including an open pyloplasty. My body has scars that I can not erase. Some of the more physical activities are not a possibility for me. My hydration status and blood pressure are monitored yearly.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
I also have a passion for Cows.... yes Cows. I would like to one day own a farm to raise cows. I know its a lot of hard work and dedication, but that is what I would like to do one day.

Morgann Fay

10/27/2021

Picture

Morgann Fay - Georgia
Nomination & Photography by Stephanie Q Durham Photography
Issue 50 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: What would you have done in her situation? How would you react to losing your Police officer father at age 13? How about a decade of an undiagnosed lung illness, shuttling between specialists in different states, scared someone would tell you that you had cancer?  Would you commit yourself to a demanding sport like crew?  Would you go on mission trips to help others?  Would you have the wisdom to change schools during Covid and leave your friends because it was where you could get the best education? Life is about courage, attitude, and resiliency; three traits that perfectly describe Morgann Fay and inspire those around her.
Picture
Photography by Stephanie Q Durham Photography
Tell us about your experience with Stephanie Q Durham Photography. What was your photo shoot like and what did you love most about it?
Stephanie Q Durham Photography provided the most amazing experience. A true professional that had an answer, suggestions, and idea for everything. I find, like most teens, I am my own worst critic. Stephanie immediately made me feel at ease and helped me forgot about the “shoot” and just helped me have fun and embrace my true self.

Tell us about your career with crew? What is the training like and what has a big accomplishment been with your involvement there? What is your team like and what are your competitions like?
Crew is the hardest sport you will ever love. It’s physically demanding, there are few stars, there is almost no individual glory, there is no professional league and it’s time consuming. But rowing is addictive: that feeling of being out on the water on a cool morning, in perfect rhythm with your team, and knowing what it took to get there. Rowing is where I have made many of my closest friends, almost like army buddies who went through basic training together. If you get a chance, read the book “Boys in the Boat” and you’ll understand why rowers are how they are!

You love to travel, tell us why and any trips that stand out.
My mom has pushed me to see the world as much as possible and I cannot thank her enough for that gift. Travel makes me curious; it makes me thankful for what I have, and it makes me want to help others. In short, it makes me a better person. On every trip, there are unforgettable moments: like running through a flooded Piazza San Marco in Venice at night or making s’mores at midnight around a campfire in Homer Alaska in July when it was broad daylight, or watching a pod of seals escape from a school of sharks in the Galapagos Islands. Those memories will be with me forever.

Picture

What mission trips have you gone on and which has been a favorite? Why did you choose that one in particular?
I have done several local missions and one missions’ trip abroad. Although every experience has had an impact on me my favorite would have to be Costa Rica. Having the opportunity to be fully immersed in the community is an experience you never forget. Listening and responding to the unique needs of the people you are helping really allows you to make an immediate impact on their day, week or even month. I can’t wait to have an opportunity to go back!

How did Covid affect your schooling? What positive thing did Covid bring to you?

For the last quarter of my sophomore year, our school (like every other school) was virtual. While some kids loved that environment, I knew I wasn’t doing my best. So, when it became evident that schools were not going to be back to normal for the fall of my junior year, I asked my mom about finding a school that I could be in person for. I knew that meant leaving my friends and having to make new ones, and being the “new kid”. But I also knew how I learn best and what makes me happy. We did the homework and found a school that suited me. Overall, it has been a great opportunity for me, as I have been able to try new things and the education has been terrific.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why?
I would talk about never giving up despite what life throws at you. I remember waking up the day after my dad died and not wanting to face the world. But I did. It wasn’t fun, it wasn’t perfect. There were lots of bad days and not as many good days, but over time, the good days started outnumbering the bad days. Same with when I got sick and spent weeks at various hospitals around the country. I was frustrated. I was mad at the world. It wasn’t fair. Why me? But I had two choices: wallow in self-pity or decide to enjoy life. I know there are a lot of people who face that same choice over difficult things in their lives, so I would hope I could help them by sharing my story.

Picture

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I am very active in my church. I have a personal small group I have been with since middle school. I also chose to be a small group leader and have been for 3 years now with the same group of middle school girls. What you get back when you give is more than I could have ever imagined.

What do you do with your small group?
My small group is an extension of me. We meet every Sunday for church but more importantly we are in constant communication. My girls know I am available for anything! We meet for ice-cream if someone is having an icky week, we have picnics in the park to laugh and take funny pictures, and we encourage one another and talk through the not so pleasant experiences in our lives as well as celebrate each other’s wins. Watching these girls grow and hold on to their faith even when times are super tough is the most amazing thing to watch and have a hand in.

Picture
What else would you most like to talk about?
I wish I could tell people about the importance of dreams. I have most of my life ahead of me, and I have big plans. I see myself having a big impact in small ways. I probably won’t cure cancer or make a billion dollars, but I know I will make a huge difference in peoples’ lives. I hope every child (and adult for that matter) has dreams of what they can do and then goes out and tries to make those dreams a reality. Dream big, and then execute!

Tell us your thoughts on being courageous
When people use the word courage, we think of heroes doing incredible things, like running into burning buildings to save babies. When I think of courage, I think of two things. I think of my dad fighting for the right to become a police officer despite having had cancer as a young adult (usually that disqualifies you). He was fighting for the right to help other people. Secondly, I think about people who have suffered a tremendous loss (death, illness, accidents, etc) and the courage they have to stand up, reclaim their lives and choose happiness. Those two things define courage to me.

Tell us about your dance career.
I have been a dancer since I was 4 years old. I have had the opportunity to learn all types of dance, but my favorites are contemporary and jazz. I dance competitively with a dance studio, and I have also been on the drill team at school since 8th grade.

What is a favorite accomplishment from dance?
My favorite accomplishment was when our high school drill team won a state championship title my junior year. I can now say I am a state champ!

What has been your favorite competition in dance?
My favorite dance competition was Showstoppers Nationals competition in Galveston, Texas, because it was always like a vacation with my best friends, being at the beach and doing fun things while also getting to do our favorite thing, which was dance.

Tell us more about your drill team. What's your team like and where do you perform?
Our team is very professional and disciplined, and, at the same time, we have a lot of fun together. We perform at school pep rallies, during halftime at varsity football games, at community events, and local dance competitions.

What is the best part of your day?
The best part of my day is teaching in the preschool program at school. The preschoolers in this program are staff members’ children.

What sort of things do you do with the children?
We teach the children things like the alphabet, colors, and word of the day in sign language. We help prepare their meals, teach them in small groups, read to them, and play outside with them.

What else should we definitely know about you?
I am the youngest of 3 siblings and have 2 older brothers.

Share with us a favorite memory with your brothers.
I don’t have a specific favorite memory with my brothers, but my favorite times are when we hang out together, laughing, cracking jokes, and just spending time with each other.

What is it like having your mom as your photographer? Do you do a lot of photoshoots whenever you feel like it and do you collaborate on ideas?
It’s pretty cool having my mom as my photographer. I like it because I enjoy spending time with her, and this makes our photoshoots fun and comfortable. We don’t do a lot of photoshoots just because my schedule is so full, but we definitely collaborate on ideas.

What has been your favorite photo shoot so far? (above)
Besides my senior shoot, my favorite photoshoot so far was for one of my friends’ 16th birthday.

Do you get to help her on photo shoots and if so, what do you get to do and what do you love doing best?
I do help my mom on photoshoots. I like helping with locations and poses. I also help carry and set up some of the equipment when on location.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?

The thing I enjoy most in life is helping people. I get to do this through teaching preschool, teaching dance to children, and also through National Charity League, a mother-daughter volunteer organization I am part of. Some of my favorite volunteering activities have been working at the food bank and working at a second-hand store. I think it is so important to give to and help others.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why?
I am passionate about working with kids. I am fortunate to be able to teach preschoolers. When I work with them, it is fulfilling to teach them something and know they learned it because they demonstrate it at a later time. I also get to work with children by teaching a dance class to 3- and 4-year-olds. I love seeing them have fun because it makes me feel like I am doing something positive.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
In 5 years, I will have graduated from Sam Houston State University and will be applying for elementary teaching positions in the school district I grew up in.

3 Things on your bucket list
Go to Hawaii.
Go skydiving.
See the Northern Lights in Alaska.

Kiana Schraufnagel

Picture

Kiana Schraufnagel – Wisconsin
Nomination & Photography by Roxanne Elise Photography
Issue 50 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Kiana started “Reading with Kiana” in 2019. She visits elementary classrooms to read and be a positive role model, sharing how reading and education are the key to success, dreams, and goals. She has donated her childhood books to her community’s “Little Free Libraries,” and opened her own in November 2019. She promotes her Little Free Library via social media, reads live, and encourages donations. Kiana is proud to give free access to books where they are limited. Early in the pandemic, local libraries closed, and reading materials were needed. Kiana made sure nearby Little Free Libraries were always filled.

What else should we definitely know about you?
Not only have I started "Reading with Kiana", in the sixth grade I started a Teen Group Support Club at my school "Empowering Teens for Better Self Esteem". We would meet up twice a month and discuss hot topics in our generation and tough challenges we face with social media expectations. Excepting our differences and ourselves. How to live a life without hiding behind camera filters. I create fun self esteem boosting activities we do together as we have discussions. I would also start meetings with a reading that is inspiring that another teen has struggled from and overcame. I have spoke at middle school assembly's on my Teen Group Support System.
I sponsor a student each year from my community to receive one book a month throughout their school year.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I am a competitive baton twirler as a soloist and a member of Team USA with my Twirling Corp. We hold several National Championship titles.
I am a titleholder with the Miss America Organization since 2019 and I am passionate about doing service in my community and with others.
I am trying to earn scholarships towards a Law Degree.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be on and why?
I had low self esteem. I was bullied. Cried myself to sleep many nights and changed my clothing to please my peers. I am no longer that girl! I learned to love myself and accept myself. I want to make a difference and continue sharing my story. It is empowering to talk about and the stepping stones to seeing the best version of yourself. By sharing and talking about our differences, struggles, challenges, self goals, and supporting one another we can face each day stronger.

Kaitlyn Walls

Kaitlyn Walls – Indiana
Nomination & Photography by Moments In Time by Kimberly Krueger
Issue 50 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Kaitlyn Walls is inspiring to me for all of her heart she brings to each shoot, she helps show love to all of the girls on my team in person and on socials. She not only comes to her shoots prepared and ready to give it her all but she will readily speak up and offer ideas as well. With a busy schedule of competitive cheer and high school cheer this young lady always wears a smile and is ready to be the hype girl.

What else should we definitely know about you?
My name is Kaitlyn Walls and I am a competitive cheerleader as well as high school cheerleader. I am in 9th grade and am working toward my biology degree in addition to my high school studies. I would like to be a pediatric cardiologist when I graduate to be able to help children have longer, happier lives that may not be able to have this otherwise.
In my free time, I love working with my local influencer group taking pictures and spending time with the other girls in my group. I also help with my church group, and love working with animals.

What other inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I love to spend time with my friends when I am not working on cheerleading or school work. I enjoy working with children and help out when possible with my local church Sunday School department. In addition to being a cardiologist, I would also like to own my own cheer gym when I am older and continue to help girls with competitive cheerleading, being a part of a great team, and feeling good about themselves.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why?
I love to talk about competitive cheerleading. I love cheerleading because it gives me a goal to strive to be my very best. I love the team atmosphere and how it takes every person on my team to be able to win a big competition. Because cheer is a dangerous sport, we all have to depend on each other and know that we have each other's back and will not let them fall. This helps in life when forming friendships and being considerate of others feelings. We do not want to let our friends and family down and it is my goal to always be uplifting and help others around me know that they are beautiful and can achieve anything they want in life if they work hard and stay focused on their end goal.

Nomination & Photography by
Contemporary Portraits. Vanessa Hendrickson
Issue 50 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: This senior is a sweet girl and a harder worker in school. She is the captain of the cheer team in school and cheers for a competitive team! She is a wonderful role model and would be very deserving of a scholarship.

Tell us about cheering?
Cheering has been my passion since I was a little girl. It has taught me to be a leader and team player.

\What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover? less)
I have an older sister who I love and truly look up to. Sydelle is the one who encouraged me to cheer when I was younger. She always had fun cheering, going to school, working, and managed her time well while doing it all. In addition to school cheer, she also participated in competitive cheer. This all inspired me to be just like her. I have taken numerous AP classes throughout school because I enjoy challenges. This may sound like I have a lot on my plate, but I learned from the best how to manage it all.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be on and why?
The topic I would select is cheer because it's so near and dear to my heart. I'd speak about why I fell in love with the sport when I was just a little girl, how cheer motivates me to be a better person, and makes me strive for success.

Nomination: Hannah is an inspiring teen because of all she has done for her community. She has won the Warrick County Cares Award, which is given to an individual who works hard for others and has a positive impact in their community. Hannah started her own outreach project to benefit the youth and families in her community. She began her own campaign and called it “Warm Hands, Happy Hearts" in which she collected items including hats, gloves, scarfs, diapers, bottles, and numerous other items for local foster children. Hannah also serves on her local church worship team and is a youth leader.

What else should we know about you?
When I did these drives, the reasoning of my idea as well as the church/church camp that made me believe I could accomplish it, is what drove me to complete it and drove me to not give up in what I was doing or who I was doing it for.

Gabrielle Gruszynski

10/26/2021

Picture

Gabrielle Gruszynski – Georgia
Nomination and Photography by Hedi Kalpak, The Pink Peach Photography
Issue 50 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Gabrielle Gruszynski (Gabby) is a senior and attends Lake Oconee Academy. While carrying a heavy load of AP classes and balancing her academics, she has always been involved in the arts (whether it be singing at vocal lessons on Thursdays, writing for her school’s literary magazine, or acting in One Act productions). However, continuing her dance education has been one of Gabby’s greatest passions. Gabby has been classically trained in ballet, pointe, jazz, and lyrical. In college, Gabby hopes to major in either journalism or international relations; nonetheless, she believes she will continue dancing for the rest of her life!

What should we definitely know about you?
I am endlessly busy, and I LOVE it! I feel that most people my age tend to get overwhelmed easily (especially amongst other seniors like myself, I completely understand and relate to the stress). Nonetheless, I’ve always considered myself a bit of a workaholic/OCD and flourish on being able to check things off my to-do list. Between managing A+ grades in 5 AP courses, to dance lessons 5 hours a week, to theatre practice and vocal lessons, managing an annual school literary magazine, and the ever daunting college applications, I relish in getting things done!

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
Alongside my hefty load of courses and extracurricular activities, giving back to my community is something I’m passionate about. I’ve been fortunate to have been raised in a household where I haven’t been limited by circumstance; however, I’m aware that this isn’t the case for everybody. I’m particularly passionate about getting to work alongside my mom as a Peer Pragmatic Coach for her speech and language development practice. She and I work with peers diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and teach them communication basics. It makes me feel whole knowing I’m leaving an impact on others as well as myself.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why?
Literature has always been a huge passion of mine. That sensation from opening a book, the crinkled pages, the aged scent, everything about it intoxicates me. Late nights spent reading musty books beckoned me to have an intellectual curiosity for not only literature but writing as well. I feel it’s important to express our imaginations through specific creative outlets (for me, it’s writing). For example, I’ve dedicated time to writing and editing my school's annual literary magazine! I believe I will engage in literature for my life’s entirety; it’s my passion and what my brain thrives on.

Nomination: Kaylee Jo Engelhardt is inspiring and beautiful inside and out. Her love and patience show most when she is working with horses and children. She volunteers at Eden Healing Center during student lessons. She has also volunteered at Smiles which is a facility where the horses are used with students with disabilities.
What should we definitely know about you?
I love helping others, and something that I feel strongly about is helping people grow their love for horses. I help assist with horseback riding lessons and I take kids on trail rides. It is such an amazing experience to be able to connect with them and see them overcome their fears.

How did you get involved with horses and assisting horseback riding lessons and what do you love most about it?
I started riding horses myself when I was in fourth grade, and ever since have loved it. I had heard about SMILES just from being involved locally in the equine industry and wanted to get some volunteer hours out of the way, this seemed like the perfect place to use my talents to help others. What I love most about it is definitely seeing the participants overcome their fears and hit milestones in their riding each week, seeing them excited and happy is the best feeling in the world.

What is a favorite accomplishment from your time there?
My favorite accomplishment from my time at SMILES would be seeing one participant in particular grow. Throughout her session, each week she would become more confident. At fist, she was so scared and would cry and need to hold my hand, but by the end of her session she was much more confident and excited to be around the horses and give them treats.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
An inspiring thing about me that my nomination may not have covered is my love for dancing. I am on my school's Poms team and we perform at halftime during football games. I previously did cheer but wanted to try something new, so for my junior and senior years, I decided to try out for poms. I made the team and knew that I was going to have to work extra hard because most girls on the team have been dancing their whole lives and I had never even taken a dance class before. I am now halfway done with my senior season and It has been so much fun, I am glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried something new.

Tell us about your pom team and season. What are they both like?
My poms team is full of amazing, talented girls who all really push each other to be the best we can be. This season has been so much fun so far, we have all become closer and work really hard to improve each and every practice!

What is a favorite memory with your team?
My favorite memory with my team so far would be our team sleepover. We all brought food and made posters and banners for our football team. It was really fun to get to know the newer girls and to learn more about my teammates I had already known.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be on and why?
I feel extremely passionate about helping people with disabilities, especially children. I believe that every person no matter the circumstances deserves a fair shot at accomplishing their dreams, and no one should feel like they can't do that because of the obstacles in their life. Volunteering at SMILES is amazing because I get to help kids accomplish their goals and break down obstacles that might seem impossible to get through.

What does being a part of SMILES mean to you and what is your biggest role there?
Being a part of SMILES for me, means having a purpose. It means being able to use my skills and talents for good to benefit other people, and give them experiences and opportunities that they wouldn’t otherwise have. My biggest role there is to walk alongside the participant and help them, as well as sometimes leading the horse in the arena and maintaining a calm, steady ride for the participant.

What leadership skills have you learned there as a result?
A leadership skill I have learned there is the importance of patience and understanding that the reason I am there is to serve others. I know when I walk in the barn that nothing I have going on is important at that time, I am there to do everything I can to create an amazing experience for the kids who are here to ride.

What was your senior portrait experience like with Sarah Kay Photography and what did you love most about your day with her?
My senior portrait experience was amazing, I love Sarah and she does such an incredible job every time. Sarah makes me feel so comfortable in front of the camera, and you can tell she knows what she’s doing. Sarah makes every photo shoot experience amazing!

Trinity Barker

Picture

Trinity Barker – Idaho
Nomination by Katie
Photography by Carrie’s Photography
Issue 50 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: I have grown up a very shy kid and have slowly tried to challenge myself with out of my comfort zone things. I started with talent shows, National junior honors society, and ambassadors for my school. It became addicting to help people and see the difference I can make. I ran for ASB president and by my surprise I won! I continued to do student council throughout high school and then took it upon myself to do a leadership program called Distinguished Young Woman. It was truly amazing to see the impact that I made on girls and that it was possible for one person to inspire others.

Picture
Photography by Carrie’s Photography

What did you perform in talent shows and what was your favorite?
I performed dances choreographed by my best friend and I. My favorite dance would have to be my 2nd grade talent show. I felt unstoppable and I am so glad I had someone to share that moment with.

What was your favorite achievement from being a part of NJHS?
I got to make my middle school a better place. We worked with serving the community and doing community hours to better our town. It was a great accomplishment being a part of and having a family that experienced it with me.

What does being an ambassador in your school mean? What were your duties? How did this help you out of your shyness?
Being an ambassador means that you are a leader in your school community. You help advocate for people that can’t and you make school an enjoyable place to be. This helped me grow into an outgoing person because I realized I could make a difference with my ideas. If I spoke up, I was listened to, and it helped me grasp the bigger picture of things and that one person can make a difference.

Picture
Photography by Carrie’s Photography

What do you do as the ASB president and how has this helped you to become a better leader?
As ASB president it was my job to speak for the people of the school. I made decisions about fundraising for sports, bettering the school, and all in all making the people heard. I’ve learned that the position I was in as ASB president did not mean anything when it came to people at my school. It was what I was doing for them that made my position so honorable. It was an awarding experience that I got to be a part of.

Tell us more about Distinguished Young Woman and what you loved about being a part of it.
Distinguished Young Woman is a program where you can’t be scared to be you. You are pushed out of your comfort zone and are guided throughout the competition. It is a program where you want to present your best self and learn who you are really are. I loved being a part of the community it brought! I have family and supporters all throughout the treasure valley and met some amazing girls along the way! I’m so happy I was a part of it!

What would you most like to be interviewed about/what should we definitely know about you in 100 words or less?
I'm open to everything. Talking about our run up through districts in softball and our trip to states in cheer is something that means a lot to me. I have also attended softball camp at FSU for the past few years. Something a lot of people don't know about me is that I am very artistic. I love art and painting in general. During covid I especially got into it. It was a form of therapy almost for me. I also manage to keep up with my life while having anxiety and ADHD. I also have a great relationship with my family, especially my siblings.

Tell us more about your softball career.
I started playing softball when I was 10 in little league. I am the starting centerfielder for my varsity softball team and the backup catcher. I love both positions because I am always moving and feel like am a part of the action! Softball is a huge part of my life and I am hoping to be able to play while in college.

What was it like running up through districts?
It was amazing! We were so nervous the entire time because our school had never made it as far as we did. But, we believed in ourselves and that we could do it and we did! A lot of us have played together for a long time. We played Little League and travel ball together. It was great to be able to do that with girls who I have been friends with for so long.

When did you start cheering and what is your team like? What are states like?
I started cheering only last year. Going to states was amazing. We never imagined that we would get to go that far. It was in this huge stadium with tv monitors everywhere. There were so many great teams there competing. It still feels like a dream. Walking out on the mat the first time was so scary and exciting all at once. We had a few things change right before our performance and I ended up flying in one our stunts. We were all just so excited when they called our name and told us our place in the competition!

What is a favorite memory from cheer?
My all-time favorite memory was when we took the day of practice before our run through districts and did some team bonding. We played games and just had fun together. I played a game called “Barrel Racing” and was partnered with my teammate Mason. They have to pick up your legs while you race forward on your hands. We crushed everyone in the race. It was so funny to watch everyone try and stay up and not fall!

Artwork by Abby Knapp

We would love to see a picture of an art piece you created!
I made this painting for my all-time favorite person, my Papa. He was having heart surgery a year ago and I made this for him to make him feel better. Now he is healthier than ever and the painting is still hanging in his house.

What are some of the things you love doing with your family?
My family and I love doing anything outdoors. I love going side by side riding with my dad and absolutely anything to do at the river. We also like to stay in a cabin in the woods every year. I have gone to a softball camp at Florida State University and this past year I ever took 2 of my friends with my sister and I. Hopefully maybe I will even attend college there.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
I live my life every day with anxiety and ADHD. Sometimes it makes doing everything I do harder, but in some ways, I am better for it. I've learned to deal with it and manage it. It is especially true during playing sports!

What advice would you give to someone who doesn't have ADHD and isn't used to being around someone who does?
I was officially diagnosed with ADHD last year. Not a lot of people knew that I was being tested. I’ve always been very enthusiastic and some of my peers would talk meanly behind my back because they didn’t understand. My advice would be just to take it in and really think about what is going on with that person. We can’t help being the way we are, and bullying isn’t the answer. Since I have talked to my friends about it, they are much more understanding and patient.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why?
I would like to present to a group on mental health. A lot of teens these days struggle with depression and anxiety. I would like to help them understand ways to cope and figure out if any of their friends are struggling their health too. I personally know several teens affected by this daily. I struggle with anxiety, depression, and ADHD and have figured out ways to help myself overcome it.

What was your photo shoot like with ProPoint Media?
My photo shoot with ProPoint Media was really fun and I enjoyed it a lot! Dave really helped put me at ease and taught me how to get used to posing and making faces for the photos. We laugh a lot and have so much fun. I even have a funny photo of me making a double chin!

What made you choose them and what did you love most about it?
Dave has taken my photos for sports for 3 years now and the photos always turn out great. He said I was a natural with getting my photo taken and we have complete trust in him. I am really interested in learning photography, and he shows me things as we go. It has really helped to build my confidence too.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
Attend college at FSU and earn a degree in early elementary education. I would like to continue to play sports in college and also adopt a French bulldog and name him Buster.

Kinsey Schuchhardt

Picture

Kinsey Schuchhardt – South Dakota
Nomination & Photography by Push Play Photography.
Issue 50 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Kinsey Schuchhardt puts a face to the title “Inspiring Teen”.
At just 17 years old, she made the courageous decision to enlist in the Army National Guard. She spent the summer before her senior year training; unlike other kids her age who were enjoying time at the river or with friends.
After one of her first days of school her senior year, she voluntarily took a 13 mile ruck in honor of the 13 soldiers lost in Kabul. At each mile mark, she stopped, placed an American flag with a soldier’s name, and said a prayer. She also raised around $1,700 in her efforts for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Kinsey embodies patriotism, bravery, and inspiration.

What led to your decision to enlist in the Army National Guard?

I’m a very independent and strong young woman. Being told I can’t do something is almost like a challenge to me. I’ve always wanted to serve our country and my own community in some way. Being a woman you are also sometimes told “you can’t do it” or “it’s a mans field of work.” I wanted to prove wrong those who believe that women are inferior.

Tell us about your summer training?
My summer training was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in my life. You are put through many challenges to overcome but there are others to help you get back up when you fall down as well. Our platoon was like a family. We were there for each other and we each taught each other something along our journey through the difficult times. It’s something I’ll never forget and memories I’ll forever cherish.

What do you look forward to most about being in the Army National Guard?
I look forward to all the new opportunities it has opened for me in serving my country. I’m also excited to make new friends and travel the world. Plus, it’ll give me a chance to be a mechanic in the military world and a photographer in the civilian world. Two jobs that I love and I can do them both at the same time!

Picture
Photography by Push Play Photography

Where do you think your drive comes from and why?
I believe my drive comes from failure. I’m not afraid to fail, but once I do, I pick myself up and work harder than I did before to prove that my failure is what will equal my success in my future. I also have tons of support from those around me that keeps me going too.

Tell us more about your volunteer activities. Which do you spend your most time with and why?
My volunteer activities aren’t really limited. People just have to ask and I’m there! It’s hard for me to say no when somebody asks me to help out our community. My favorite would be singing in church or at the Angel Tree during Christmas time. As we don’t have a church choir, they ask if I can sing and sometimes I’ll bring my guitar to accompany me.

What do you most hope to instill in underclassmen as they look to you for leadership?
I hope to instill that you need to keep your chin up and smile. Even if you’re having a bad day, sure its a small set back, but don’t let it keep you there. All these bad moments in your life, failures, are trials. They are just setting you up for success in the end. They will make you stronger and make you a better person if you look at it with the right attitude.

Picture
Photography by Push Play Photography

What did you enjoy most about your senior photo shoot with Push Play Photography?
I liked that we could both combine our creative ideas together and create one grand photo together. She’s also very bubbly, so it didn’t take much for her to make me laugh in the process to create a genuine smile.

What pleasantly surprised you the most during the process of senior pictures with Chelsey?
I was pleasantly surprised with how comfortable she made me feel. I came into the photo shoot super nervous and by the middle of it she had me comfortable enough to start creating my own ideas. It was a really fun experience, and it makes me excited to go to my next shoot.

What is the hardest thing you have ever accomplished, and how did you do it?
The hardest thing I’ve accomplished is the ruck marches during Basic Training. The way I made it through is just taking a deep breath and letting it out. Clearing your mind from every worry about what you can’t control.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
To keep pushing and never quit. Even if nobody believes in you, as long as you believe in yourself that’s all you need.

Picture

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?

I see myself graduated from college and starting my own business.

What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination?
My favorite activity or past time would be working out.

Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
My hidden talent would be that I can play almost any standard instrument and if I can’t, it doesn’t take me long to learn.

3 Things on your bucket list
Three things on my bucket list would be: travel all 50 states, own my own business, and own a horse.

Who do you find inspiring?
The people I find inspiring are my Drill Sergeants from Basic Training.

What about you inspires others/why do you think you are inspiring?
I believe I am seen as inspiring as I keep my kindness and understanding while I work hard. I’m always there for others and willing to listen to others whether I can understand/relate to what they are going through or not.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this Inspiring Teens Magazine, so I can influence more people around the world.

Amber Lyons

Picture

Amber Lyons - Georgia
Nomination by Michelle Lyons
Photography by Amy Honea Photography
Issue 50 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Amber is incredibly close to her father and attended his in-office surgery to remove skin cancer 3 years ago. At that moment, she knew she was destined to become a doctor. She has stayed committed throughout high school to attaining straight A’s in a very rigorous curriculum to prepare herself for a tough college program before launching into med school. In addition to school, she is very involved in her church student ministry, plays tennis, volunteers in her community, works 2 jobs, and is a Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Student of the Year Campaign Co-Captain.

Picture
Photography by Amy Honea Photography

What would you most like to be interviewed about?
I would most like to be interviewed about my current involvement within the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Student of the Year Campaign. I originally started this journey for the purpose of completing my senior project, but along the way, I have become so passionate about LLS' organization and mission as a whole. I have always been intrigued with anything medical-related, and this opportunity has allowed me to bridge my passion of volunteering with medicine.

Tell us more about these campaigns and your roles within them.
The LLS Student of the Year Campaign is an annual fundraising event for cancer research and treatment. It consists of teams across the country led by high school student captains and their extended team members aiming to raise the most money during the 7-week campaign in February. As a Co-Captain of a 2021-22 team, my LLS partner and I will educate the community about blood cancers, meet with local businesses for sponsorships, recruit team members, plan fundraising events, send donation request letters and emails, and much more.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
My nomination mentions that I play tennis, but it does not elaborate on the extent of its impact on my life. This sport has taught me so many life lessons about hard work, decision making, and independence. It has also been a source of therapy for me to de-stress from outside anxieties and brought me life-long friendships. With my love of tennis, I have dedicated myself to coaching younger kids in the community through summer jobs and weekly volunteering.

Picture
Photography by Amy Honea Photography

Tell us more about your tennis career. When did you start, how often do you practice, what's your team like, etc.
My tennis career began the summer of 2016 at a local tennis camp that I was sent to by my mom to get me out of the house during the day. That summer, I fell in love with tennis and the idea of how great I could be one day. Today, after hundreds of hours spent practicing on the court, I am a starting singles player for my high school team as well as a competitive tournament player through USTA. The girls on my highschool team are by far some of the best people I know and never fail to encourage and support me on and off the court.

What is a favorite accomplishment from tennis?
My junior year high school tennis season was full of accomplishments like my personal undefeated region season and our team’s first place position in regions, but our team making it to Elite 8 in the State Championships that season was by far my favorite accomplishment. This incredible season allowed our team to further our connections and support for one another on and off the court through the long bus rides and nail-biting games. We worked hard all season long and it definitely showed in those playoffs.

What is the most important thing you teach kids when coaching tennis?
The most important thing that I could ever teach a child on the tennis court is that perfection is not the goal. Perfection is not possible especially in such an unpredictable sport. The best advice I was ever given from a coach is “Practice makes permanent not perfection.” Striving for perfection takes the enjoyment out of the sport and creates the need for comparison. Every player is different and has different strengths. These differences are the qualities that allow us to create our own style within the game, so the goal is to make good habits permanent.

Photography by Amy Honea Photography

Why did you choose Amy Honea Photography?

Ironically, Amy Honea Photography basically chose me. Last fall, I was the winner of a free mini shoot with Amy as a result of a model team competition for the graduating class before me. I eventually completed my mini session in the spring around the time she accepted model team applications for the upcoming senior class. The shoot was absolutely amazing, and those photos are still some of my favorites ever taken of me. As soon as the photo proofs came back a few days later, I fell in love with her work and immediately applied for her model team that night which happened to be the deadline.

What was your photo shoot like with Amy Honea Photography?
Every photoshoot with Amy Honea Photography as a model on her team has been absolutely amazing. Mrs. Honea designs every shoot she offers to be personal to her models and their passions as well as shoots that include groups of models to promote unity. The group airplane shoot was one of my favorites because our team was in complete control over the design of our group pose. She is so supportive of any ideas or requests, and I could not ask for a better photographer to capture such an important year of my life.

What is your involvement with church student ministry and what is a favorite memory?
Within my student ministry, I am a part of the leadership team that collaborates with our youth pastor to create new ways to further include and engage students in their walk with Christ. Beyond leadership, I am a very involved member of Wesley Students because it is my safe place. I look forward to Sunday nights at church and Wednesday nights at small groups each week. My favorite memories definitely come from the trips-- both mission trips and retreats. The current senior class that I have grown up with through the church have become my second family.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why?
If I were to present a topic to a group of peers, I would discuss the variety of intriguing career opportunities in the medical field. I've spent a majority of my school career learning about the different paths that can be taken within the overarching field of medicine. Through the healthcare pathway at my high school, I have discovered very interesting occupations that I had never previously known existed like Dermatopathologists and Radiology Technicians. I would love to present the overlooked or unknown jobs that are essential to helping others in my field of passion.

What do you want us to know about you?

You should know that I love to play volleyball. I have played since I was in 6th grade. I play club and school volleyball. During club you get to travel and visit some really cool places and make new friends from other schools. While I enjoy playing this sport, I enjoy playing it with my friends. Outside of the sport we get together for sleepovers, shopping, and dinner nights. Most importantly, some of these girls have become my best friends that will last a lifetime.

What are your favorite places you've gotten to visit for volleyball and why?
Florida and Arizona are my favorite because they are both hot. Florida had a super cool beach and I’ve never seen white sand before. Arizona is my other one my favorite places to go to especially because it was in Tempe where is it warm, college town like, they had good food and just loved the city.

What is a favorite accomplishment from volleyball?
My favorite accomplishment is being able for grow in different positions on the court. It allows me to understand the game better and makes me a better athlete.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
Some inspiring things about me are that I care about my relationships with my family and friends a lot. I don’t ever like seeing anyone I care about, unhappy or upset. I believe in being kind, loyal, honest and genuine. I hope my actions toward others will inspire someone else to show the same. In my life I consider these character traits to be verbs, therefore actions speak louder than words.

What are some of the things you enjoy doing with your family?
Having family movie nights, family dinner at grandmas every Sunday, and going camping and boating with them.

Tell us about your senior portrait experience with Tammi Jolene Photography. Why did you choose Tammi, what was your day like, and what most pleasantly surprised you about the whole experience?
I chose Tammi because I know her through your High School sports photos, and I’ve seen other senior pictures she has done. I think that she did an outstanding job of taking them. Not only does she take good pictures, but she is also easy to talk to and makes you feel comfortable. I was surprised that you could make simple backgrounds and make them look amazing. I was also surprised that I was able to take all of my practice at my house and was able to get all of the picture ideas I had envisioned done.

What AP classes are you taking, and which one do you like the most?
I am enrolled in AP Calculus AB, Language and Composition. My favorite class out of those two is AP Lang & Comp.

What do you do in FFA and what are you most proud of?
I was proud that I was able to do 2 years of showing and marketing by raising a steer and setting aside money for college.

What does being a member of the Leadership Club entail and what leadership qualities do you feel like are your strongest?
Being in Leadership Club you have to organize school assemblies, put on school events like dances and spirit weeks, make bulletins boards, and create posters. I am strongest at being social and making other feel welcome.

Picture
Photography by Tammi Jolene Photography

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why?
If I were to present a topic to a group of peers, it would be about Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This club has helped me grow through volleyball, relationships with others and with God. Being a part of this family has helped be strong in my faith and given me support with my fellow classmates that may have the same struggles. The reason I would pick this topic to share with my peers would be to hopefully lead them to God.

What does this organization do and what is your role in it?
FCA is a club that follows the word of God. We have meetings twice a month to praise the lord by praying, reading, and discussing about him and continuing to grow in our faith in him. This club was designed for athletes, but we welcome anyone. My role in this club is to help lead other peers to grow deeper in their faith. I am one of seven leaders, and we meet once a month at our adult leaders house to plan out our student lead meetings.

What should we definitely know about you?
I am Native American with a great work ethic. I currently go to school, do sports (cross country, wrestling, and track), and have a job. I've been on the student council. I have wrestled since I was 3 yrs old for our AAU program and I volunteer for the program by being a referee and I do a little bit of coaching. I like to encourage our youth to stay positive and keep pushing for their goals.

What does it mean to you to be a member of the Fort Peck and Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes?
I am very proud to be a part of our tribe. Our tribal members are very giving, resilient, and strong. They had to overcome many obstacles to remain intact, and I am grateful for that. We will be here for years to come.

Tell us more about a struggle someone on your reservation may need assistance with and how you would help in that situation.
The reservation has limited resources to assist the people. Currently, the medical and mental health needs are great, we don't have the medical providers to assist with this. Our reservation location is an issue, as people need to travel out of town to go to doctors appointments. I would like to help in any way that I can.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be on and why?
- Our Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women. I support this cause because my father is the Sheriff in our county. The local law enforcement doesn't get the support that is needed if someone goes missing. I am happy that changes are being made at the higher levels of government.

What changes are being made now, and what changes do you hope to see in the future?
- The MMIW is finally getting a Federal Task Force for assistance in this issue, at the Federal government level. I can only hope that the progress continues to grow for this cause.

Tell us about your sports careers.
I am a 3X State Wrestling placer, I will be going for my 4th title. I have wrestled since I was 3 yrs old. I am currently in cross country but I have also been involved in football, track, baseball, softball, golf, and soccer.

Tell us about going to state with Wrestling 3x. Walk us through what that experience is like as an athlete.
It's an experience that you will never forget. In MT, we have a "Parade of Athletes", where you get introduced to the entire crowd. The fans understand the hard work that it takes to get to the State tournament, so when the crowd starts cheering for you, you feel a huge sense of pride. Wrestling is "one big family", you have people cheering for you that you have never met. The hard work paid off but you know it's not over yet, you still need to place or become a champion.

What is a favorite memory from one sport, and a favorite accomplishment from another?
- My favorite memory is standing on the mat at the state tournament, my freshman year, and seeing all the people there to support the sport.
-My favorite accomplishment from another would be scoring 3 touchdowns, in one game, during my middle school career.

What do you hope to instill most in the younger athletes you help coach?
Stay positive and don't give up. Determination and hard work will get you to where you want to be.

I really like her photos. My family & her family are friends, plus she likes the sport of wrestling! The day was relaxing & fun!
