Natalie Reyes – Indiana
Nomination by Alejandra Veronica Reyes
Photography by April Moore Creations
Issue 99 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Natalie would not be the person she is today without the hardships she has faced, each one has shaped her strength and has turned those hardships into growth. I admire the way she continues to push forward through adversity, facing every challenge with courage and determination as she pursues her goals and becomes the best version of herself every single day. Being part of the senior model team has boosted her confidence, and I can see the transformation in her. She started with just a smirk to now showing off that beautiful smile in her latest photos.

How have the challenges you’ve faced helped shape the way you see yourself today?
The many challenges I have faced have helped me be more confident in myself. I can definitely say I am more aware and resilient today than I was before.

Was there a specific moment when you realized your hardships were turning into personal growth?
When I realized that my hardships were turning into personal growth was when I realized that those hardships were not becoming a huge burden on me and weighing me down like they did before. I was balancing school and responsibilities at home better. I was able to overcome hard situations and learn to organize my time effectively. These experiences were shaping me and they were teaching me patience, strength, and like said before with more resilience.

Who or what has helped you stay grounded when things felt especially difficult?
My mom has helped me stay grounded when things felt difficult, she always supported and got me on my 2 feet when I felt I couldn’t any longer. She was always there to push me to succeed and to be a better person.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination
I am proud of the way I keep showing up even when things are hard but I am even more proud of how I choose to love deeply and stay true to who I am regardless of what is happening around me. I believe that every challenge has shaped me into someone stronger, more compassionate and more empathetic. With God's grace, one of my accomplishments this year was going on a mission trip that inspired me to travel the world and help others in the future.

How has choosing compassion and empathy changed the way you approach difficult situations?
Choosing compassion and empathy has changed the way I approach difficult situations by figuring out the problem in a positive way instead of reacting negatively. I am able to approach situations and look at it from different perspectives. Compassion and Empathy are really important to have as it creates trust, stronger communication which result in better outcomes

What lessons from your mission trip have stayed with you the most?
The lessons that stayed with me the most during my mission trip was Serving out of love. I took many life lessons from my mission trip. I learned humility and teamwork. I was able to build relationships and understand their situations and struggles and truly see people's needs. It definitely strengthened my faith while serving.

In what ways did that experience inspire your future goals?
This experience inspired my future goals by confirming that being a nurse is what I do want to continue to pursue and to continue to help people in my life and people around the world in future mission trips.

How do you continue to live out the values you learned from that journey in your everyday life?
I was able to value life more and be more grateful for the opportunities we have now. I am definitely more thankful for those opportunities that are given to me in life and especially thankful for the people that I have in my life. I learned to live life to the fullest and never give up.

What else would you like to talk about?
One of my current goals is to become a traveling Nurse to be able to travel and help others along the way while doing what I love, which is seeing the world and experiencing and learning about different cultures. I am currently working on a candle business. This project helps me raise money by selling at local markets and saving up for college.

What inspired you to pursue nursing as a career path?
I was inspired from a young age, I knew I wanted a career where I was able to make a difference in people's lives. I always saw the compassion, patience, and dedication that nurses showed, they were dedicated to making sure people's lives were taken care of. Watching a good friend work in the nursing field inspired me even more. Seeing the impact that she had on others made me also pursue nursing with empathy and dedication.

What excites you most about the idea of combining travel with helping others?
I am able to experience different environments and different backgrounds. It is able to help me adapt to change, experience new places, and experience different cultures while still making a difference. I am not only traveling, but traveling with a purpose to care for people and know that I am making a real impact in their lives.

What have you learned about yourself through starting and running your candle business?
Starting and running my candle business has taught me to be creative, responsible, and willing to put in the work even when things feel overwhelming. It allowed me to think outside the box. Running a business includes planning, budgeting, promoting, staying consistent, and especially engaging with your customers. I had to step out of my comfort zone and handle responsibility, but seeing people supporting my business and enjoying my candles showed me that I can make an impact in my own way.

How has balancing entrepreneurship, school, and future planning helped prepare you for adulthood?
Balancing entrepreneurship, school, and future planning has helped me become more responsible and dedicated to my work. Adulthood can come with many different obstacles that are not taught but with these experiences that I have been given, it has helped me strive for success and to become a better version of myself. I feel more prepared and ready for what comes ahead. I have learned to stay organized, have leadership skills, and especially have time management.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I truly feel passionate about my faith. I believe that talking about my experiences and my testimony can help someone else along the way. Talking about our outcomes and expressing our failures and strengths in our own life can change someone else’s perspective in their own struggles. My faith has carried me through moments when I felt weak, and it's taught me to walk forward with gratitude and compassion for others. This is something I truly feel passionate about and could talk forever about.

How do you hope your story and faith can impact others who may be struggling right now?
I hope that my story reminds others to never give up. There were times when I felt overwhelmed or uncertain. I went through the loss of my father and grandfather, we struggled at home, went through sickness, medical needs, had financial struggles but my faith and prayer got me through it each time. I was able to grow into a better version of myself. Growth often comes from the most difficult moments but know that these hard seasons don't last forever.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
I found April Moore through my mom, she had been our family photographer for a couple of years. Being part of her Senior modeling team really pushed me to step out of my comfort zone. She encouraged us to try new ideas, try new fun outfits and always made us feel comfortable. Each session with her was always fun and memorable. April is a very creative photographer and her photos never disappoint.

How has being part of a senior model team influenced your confidence beyond just photos?
Being part of a senior model team has influenced my confidence in more ways than just posing for a picture. I became more comfortable with who I was and was able to express myself freely. Being part of the team allowed me to talk to other girls, support each other, and especially promote each other on social media. I was able to create new experiences that embraced growth, courage, and confidence.

What does confidence mean to you now compared to how you defined it in the past?
In the past, I described confidence as looking put-together or not being nervous in certain situations but now confidence means so much more to me. Confidence means to trust myself even when I might be unsure or nervous. I think confidence is built on challenges, growth, and especially stepping out of your comfort zone.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
My Favorite memory with my mom who nominated me was hiking through Zion National Park. We walked miles in the narrows and had to walk through freezing water in between the mountains. The water was so cold we laughed through the pain, that experience was unforgettable. It was such an amazingly breathtaking place. This memory with my mom will forever stay in my heart.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine because I believe this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity, it’s not every day that I am given the opportunity to be part of something so special or given the chance to express who I am as a person.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I win a scholarship I will be using the money for my nursing goals. I plan to go to college to earn my bachelor’s degree in nursing and become a traveling nurse. I am a first generation college student and I am focused on becoming the first in my family to aim for success.

Where would your dream job be if it were offered to you today?
My dream job would be to work as a Travel Nurse at a hospital in the city.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
I would like to thank my mom for everything she has sacrificed to help me become the person I am today. She has always put my needs before her own and made sure I have every opportunity to succeed. I would not be where I am today without her love and sacrifices.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
-If I had nothing to do all day, you would find me binge watching all kinds of shows and movies on Netflix, especially watching true crime documentaries

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
I am super excited for the next chapter of my life. I am excited to graduate high school with the people I love and start working as a CNA.

What is the hardest thing you have ever accomplished, and how did you do it?
The hardest thing I have ever accomplished is going to college while attending high school, doing sports and having my own business all at the same time.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?

Ellary Davis – California
Nomination by Lorena Davis
Photography by Mike McDermott Photography
Issue 99 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Ellary Davis is a strong academic student who participates in many extracurricular activities. She’s beautiful inside and out, kind to everyone. Her future aspiration is to be a teacher and inspire others to be their best self.
Photography by Mike McDermott Photography

What early experiences or influences helped shape your desire to inspire others?
My sister was always a very inspiring figure and her influence made me realize I want to do that for people as well.

How would the people closest to you describe your personality and strengths?
They would say I'm very good with connecting with people and making them feel safe.
The people around me would say that I have a very outgoing personality and love to get to know people.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
An inspiring quality of mine is my ability to connect with people. Over the summer I worked as a counselor at a horseback riding camp with seven girls who varied in ages ten through fifteen. I had never been in a leadership position before and so it took me a little bit to get comfortable with it. At the end of the week all of the girls had opened up to me about numerous life experiences. I learned that I love to be that person that makes people feel safe to be themselves around and come to for advice.

What did that leadership experience teach you about yourself?
It taught me that I can be a good role model and that if I trust my instincts I can be a good leader.
How did earning the trust of those girls impact the way you view leadership and responsibility?

What else would you like to talk about?
My current goal is to go to college to be an elementary school teacher. My mom is a teacher and watching her inspire kids every day is so rewarding. I saw first hand how she would change and enlighten the lives of her students and it inspired me to do the same. I love the look on kids' faces when they piece together something they're learning. My goal is to not only be a teacher, but a teacher who makes kids want to learn. I want to be the teacher that students feel safe coming to no matter what.

How do you hope your classroom will feel for students on their hardest days?
I hope my classroom will feel like a place where students can take a break from whatever hectic world is going on around them.

What values do you want your future students to learn from you beyond academics?
I hope my students will learn kindness and respect for everyone.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I am very passionate about the subject of psychology. The science behind why we do what we do has always fascinated me. The human brain is so deep and complex with countless layers to it. I feel as if people don't fully realize just how powerful our brains are. Psychology as a subject is always changing and that's another reason I love it. There will always be more to learn and that excites me. I talk about psychology any chance I get so I can share something that most people have never heard of but should know.

How do you see psychology influencing the way you’ll teach and support your students?
I think it will be good to be able to analyze and understand why my students are feeling what they are feeling.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
My photographer Mike McDermott is a very popular photographer in Bishop California where I'm from. I had seen his work many times and it was always stunning. I entered a free photo shoot give away and won! What I loved most about the experience was how much freedom I had to be myself. I've done photo shoots that don't have as much freedom in how I pose or what I wear and I end up not liking the results. With Mike however, it was the opposite. I felt very natural and ended up absolutely loving the results.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
The person who nominated me was my mom. I have made countless memories with her so it is hard to pick a favorite. One memory that stands out and is really special to me is the first time I accompanied my mom to the spa for her birthday. I was around eleven years old and I got my first facial. We went to lunch, sat in the hot tub, and I got a smoothie. I felt so grown up and I loved spending one on one time with my mom.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I would be honored to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine because it's more than just a magazine. It's an opportunity to showcase our future leaders of America. It is a way to highlight teens around the country for the things that make them amazingly unique that will evidently keep our world spinning. I am so glad that I get to play even a small part of something that features, encourages, and inspires the talented teens of America today.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I won a scholarship I would use it towards furthering my education and pursuing my dreams of being a teacher. The cost of college is a problem many of our youth struggle to afford including myself. I am thrilled with the opportunity to even make a few dollars for my future.
What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?

Alanna Thomas

2/11/2026

Picture

Alanna Thomas – California
Nomination by Andrea Thomas
Photography by Molly Juliette photography
Issue 99 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Alanna is a resilient leader who transformed adversity into purpose after experiencing bullying during her freshman year. That challenge helped her develop confidence and compassion, motivating her to support others struggling with self-esteem and to become the senior she once needed. She is a student in her high school’s International Baccalaureate Patient Care program and is actively involved in the Student Advisory Board, Black Student Union, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Varsity Soccer as the starting goalkeeper. Outside school, she enjoys youth outreach, traveling, club soccer, painting, snow sports, and shopping. Next fall, she will play college soccer and pursue a medical major.
Photography by Molly Juliette photography

How did your experience with bullying shape the way you now support and uplift others?
Being bullied at a new school pushed me to become assertive and advocate for myself. It also deepened my empathy for others who struggle and inspired me to help them find their voice and shine.

What helped you rebuild confidence during that time, and what advice would you give your freshman-year self today?
The harassment and rumors came at the worst time—I had just lost my great grandmother, someone who truly understood me in a way not many did. She was a woman of faith and wisdom, always reminding me to know my worth, stand tall, express myself, and “give it to God.” She also taught me to be kind, because you never know what someone else is going through. If I could go back in time and give advice to my 14 year old self, I would let her know that mean kids are just projecting their insecurities and sadness- hold your head up and pray for them.

How do you balance being involved in so many organizations while still staying true to yourself?
I stay organized using my Chromebook calendar and commit to activities I’m truly passionate about, so staying to myself is easy. I also make time for leisure and prioritize sleep, hydration, and nutrition to stay balanced.

What has being part of the International Baccalaureate Patient Care program taught you about leadership and responsibility?
Being in the International Baccalaureate program has taught me leadership and responsibility by challenging me to think critically, communicate clearly, and take initiative in my learning. Through group projects, global discussions, and service experiences, I’ve learned to lead with empathy, responsibility, and open-mindedness. The program has strengthened my time management, confidence, and ability to support and guide others preparing me for college and the medical industry.

How has serving in spaces like Student Advisory Board and Black Student Union helped you find your voice?
Getting involved in clubs that I’m passionate about helped bring me out of my shell with community service. Joy comes with this, and that encourages me to continue get put myself out there and serve others.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
Additional highlights include serving as captain of my soccer team and as the starting goalkeeper. I was recently nominated for the Congress of Medical Excellence Award by a Nobel Prize–winning physician in Boston, recognizing my leadership and strong academic performance within my International Baccalaureate medical program.

What did being named team captain teach you about leading under pressure?
Being team captain in soccer teaches me to lead under pressure by trying to stay calm, making quick decisions, and encouraging my teammates and giving cues during intense moments. It pushes me to set the tone of resilience, especially when the game is on the line.

In what ways do you bring leadership from the soccer field into the classroom and vice versa?
As a goalie, I bring leadership into the classroom by staying focused, thinking ahead, and communicating clearly—just like I direct my defense on the field. In the classroom, I strengthen those skills by listening carefully, analyzing situations, and staying calm under pressure, which helps me stay confident and decisive in goal.

How did it feel to receive recognition for your academic and leadership achievements at such a high level?
Oh my! I was so honored! I’ve worked so hard in this medical program and to be acknowledged is so encouraging!

What else would you like to talk about?
My current goals include earning my IB certificate and graduating with honors. I plan to pursue a nursing degree to become a registered nurse and provide compassionate care. I also hope to travel internationally and spend time helping others in underserved communities.

What inspired your desire to enter the medical field and pursue nursing?
I love science and hate seeing people suffer. Growing up and watching close family members struggle with health issues inspired me to become someone who can help and serve others using my love for science, just as doctors and nurses have helped my loved ones.

How do you hope to combine healthcare and travel in your future career?
There are so many options. I could be a traveling nurse, or I could take trips with organizations that provide medical services to underserved communities in third world countries.

What impact do you hope to make when working in underserved communities?
I’d love to show them that humanity is still strong and God loves them. I also hope to learn from them about their culture and the human race in general.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I am passionate about helping others in need, especially supporting people on their journey to better health.
Also unity. There’s currently so much negativity and division in the world. The only way to change this is by being open to learn about each other, respect, compromise and agree to respectfully disagree.

What mental strategies have helped you stay focused and confident as a goalkeeper?
Believing in my abilities and keeping a close eye on the game. Also, if I get scored on I can’t dwell on it. I have to get back up and reset quick. It got through 10 other players before it got to me- we are a team, yet I’ll hold myself accountable and try to make up
for any mistakes. All I can do is my best and work hard to prepare.

How do you encourage younger athletes who may be struggling with confidence or pressure?
Keep playing and never quit if you love it. Go to extra trainings and work when nobody’s watching. Preparation is key. Also, tell yourself positive affirmations and don’t pay attention to the haters. Keep them talking and that’s how you know you’re doing something right.

What role have coaches and mentors played in shaping your mindset?
The tougher they were on me and pushed me to my limits, the more I knew they saw my potential. They never gave up on me, and I knew I couldn’t give up on myself either. I owed it to myself to be my personal best on and off the field.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
Molly Bolinger was a PTO mom at my K-8 school and her kids attended the same school. She did some portraits for us during the pandemic in 7th grade. Junior year, she asked me if I wanted to do senior photography modeling for her. It seemed fun, and it was fun! I met some great people and got to shoot at beautiful locations different parts of the year.

How has being part of a positive model team environment impacted your confidence?
It makes you feel comfortable in your skin by stepping outside your comfort zone on camera. You learn not to take yourself so seriously.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
My mom nominated me, and she has been by my side throughout my entire confidence journey. She supported me during difficult times, and consistently encouraged me to believe in myself. One of my favorite memories with her is a road trip we took to Los Angeles a few years ago, where we visited my older cousin, and spent time at the beach, shopping and doing fun, girly activities together.

How has your mom’s support influenced the way you show up for others?
Her loyalty and support has made me someone who stays loyal and supportive to everyone I love.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?

I would love to be featured in Inspiring Teen Magazine to remind others to never let anyone steal their joy. If you are being bullied, it is often because you possess something the bully lacks. You are not a victim. You have power within. Keep smiling, stay true to yourself, and continue living your best life. Your strength and confidence can inspire others who may be facing hidden struggles and remind them they are not alone and they were put on earth for a purpose.

What message do you most hope readers take away from your story?
Find your purpose and thrive.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?

If I won the scholarship, I would put the money toward my text books at school. Text books will run me about $800 per semester so the scholarship money would be helpful.

What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?
I would love to work with pediatrics to give them hope and encouragement when they’re ill.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
Yes. I’d like to thank my Dad, and Mom for always encouraging and unconditionally loving me. My grandparents, Shams, Papa D, Memere and Poppy for always reminding me how much I’m loved, and my late great-grandma Gammy for instilling me with wisdom and strength and encouraging me to walk by faith in this crazy world.
Thanks to all my soccer coaches and trainers.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
My passion for theater goes beyond just the stage. I love to take on new opportunities within theater that will help me stay well rounded. I have stage-managed a competition One-Act that placed 2nd in the state and 4th in the nation and I am currently Assistant Directing another competition One-Act that placed 1st in the state and will move on to nationals! I have made great connections outside my school that led to a really awesome opportunity to Assistant Direct the Hunchback of Notre Dame at a community theater close by with a director that I love working with!

What else would you like to talk about?
My dream is to be on Broadway or a National Tour but I would love to just get to perform with awesome directors anywhere I can. Whether or not that’s community theaters, regional theaters, or even broadway! I’d be grateful and blessed to share the talents God has given me.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I am really passionate about anything relating theater but do be more specific I could talk about The Outsiders the musical for hours. The show is so well directed and designed and I could watch it a million times and never get tired of it.
I also could talk about family forever. Specifically my dad because he is the most supportive dad ever and I couldn’t be more grateful for his support for me to follow my dreams.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
I found her because my voice lesson teacher informed me of what is called her “Street Team.” It is a team full of senior girls who get to help advertise her business but also just a support group for all of us girls going through similar walks of life. The experience was amazing and I couldn’t ask for a better hype person during the shoot. She showcased me but also the woman I was becoming. What I love most is that she let me incorporate my dad in the shoot and I got some photos with him.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
I have a few favorite memories. The first one was when all the girls got together to create our vision boards and she was so engaged with everyone and you could tell she really loved talking to us about all of our ambitions and the things we put on our vision boards and why they were there. My second favorite memory was going in after the shoot to pick out my photos for my album. She played a slide show of my photos and I think we all got a little teary eyed. It was a beautiful moment.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
The name of the magazine is something that really pulled me to want to submit. Being apart of a publication that will be used to inspire other teens around me is something I would hold close to my heart. As a performer my goal has always been to inspire and uplift others around me and this would allow me to achieve that goal in another way.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
I would definitely put the money towards college expenses. I’m so glad I get the opportunity to go to college and study my craft. Not everyone gets to do that. I would use it to help cover tuition and as well as things I may need for my dance classes, vocal classes, and other things of that nature!

We’ve had Victoria take our photos before, so we called her out here and it went really well! I loved taking the photos with my dog, he’s the sweetest and makes every photo better

What is a favorite memory you have with the person who nominated you?
After we got the family photos she wanted to take a few of just me so we hopped our fence and took advantage of the beautiful sunset with our shoot. What was most memorable to me was that she made me feel completely comfortable to be myself and have fun with it.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to show other teens that it’s okay to stand out, it’s okay to be yourself, it’s okay to try and fail, it’s okay to stand up for yourself, life has so much to offer and if you back down you never know what you might miss.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
I will put it towards college

Amelia Cho

Amelia Cho – Virginia
Nomination by Sunmin Lee
Photography by Lia Hair
Issue 99 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Amelia Cho is a youth leader passionate about food advocacy, leadership, and sustainability. Through her own endeavors with food, she has advanced her passion into Mindful Meals, organizing over 3,580 pounds of fresh, sustainable food donations, and providing food education by co-authoring five children's books currently used for a six-week after-school curriculum at Franklin Sherman Elementary School. In addition to her personal work, Amelia is an active leader who works to advance food sustainability initiatives as the president of both the Class Council and the Student Government Association at her high school.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
Food education is a large priority for Mindful Meals. However, the impact of food choices on health and lifestyle is not discussed as widely as it should be. Knowing this, I wanted to raise more awareness about food, especially among the young generation, to help them develop healthy habits early. This sparked me to collaborate with Mediquills, a medical literacy organization, to publish 5 children’s books about food, sustainability, and health, called “How Does it Work: The Intersection of Public Health and Nutrition for Kids.” We are excited to donate these to various community centers and libraries across the country!

What else would you like to talk about?
Mindful Meals started its official after-school program at Franklin Sherman Elementary School on January 15! It is a 6-week program that covers a range of topics in food, including culture, school lunch, cooking, sustainability, and utilizing food to give back to the community. As the founder and organizer of the program, it is a full-circle moment to teach such a bright group of students. Food is often overlooked in education, and I am extremely excited to lead a course and teach the significance and importance of health, culture, and the climate to K-6th-grade students!

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
As an ambitious sustainable food advocate, I could discuss the importance of prioritizing a diet that is both healthy for people and the earth for days! An individual’s ecological footprint is a major factor in climate change, revealing the lifestyle that requires energy in practices that can challenge sustainability. Food production, especially red meat, is a significant contributor to a high footprint due to its intensive production methods. By prioritizing low-energy-intensive foods like vegetables and fruits, more people will be able to create an everyday food palette that is both fresh for their bodies and the planet!

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
I met my photographer through one of my favorite hair salons, Lia Hair, who kindly offered an additional service to capture a photo of me after my beautiful haircut. My favorite part of the experience was how patient and comforting they were. Their kind gestures helped me to embrace my most confident self in the moment!

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
My favorite memory with my nominator, my mother, is our spontaneous recipe-making days every weekend. We start by compiling a list of the most intriguing recipes from social media, then bake or experiment with new ingredients to expand our food palette! This small yet fulfilling tradition of ours has allowed me to learn more about plant-forward eating, as well as various cultural dishes, making food a meaningful part of our everyday lives.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to be a part of the Inspiring Teens Magazine to increase awareness about the importance of prioritizing healthy, sustainable food among other youth leaders across the country through my personal story. Prioritizing the connection between food and the Earth is critical for combating climate change, and progress is only promised if the young generation decides to take action. Food is a vital part of sustainability that is often overlooked. I believe that sharing my story will help others grow awareness of plant-forward eating and encourage them to take small steps to save the planet’s future.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I win the Inspiring Teens Magazine Scholarship, I want to invest it in my passion for supporting environmentally sustainable food donations, as well as my future education in college. I would love to use a portion of the scholarship money to purchase more food for local food pantries in my neighborhood, in addition to the 3,580 pounds I have already supplied through Mindful Meals. In terms of my education, I hope to use it as a pathway to explore innovative approaches and detailed methods in sustainable agriculture to develop effective solutions to combat climate change.

Addison Stewart

Addison Stewart - Texas
Nomination & Photography by 374Photography
Issue 99 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination:  Hi, my name is Addison Stewart. I’m a Senior at Frenship High School, a member of the FHS Pom Squad, and on the Revolution Elite Dance Competitive Team. I’ll be attending Texas Tech University in the fall, majoring in nutrition. My postgraduate plans include attending dental school.
Photography by 374Photography

What originally inspired you to pursue both academics and competitive dance at such a high level?

To be honest, I am hard on myself. I always wanted good grades early in elementary school. It carried on to middle and high school. In high school, being in the Top 10% gives you perks for college applications/entrance. Once I knew that, I just continued working on my grades. Dance – that started in middle school. I wanted to do more than just be in recreational dance classes. I wanted to compete on stage with my friends. I saw the older dancers on the team having fun, improving their skills, traveling, and winning competitions.

How do you balance the time demands of school, dance, and extracurricular commitments?
Don’t procrastinate! I try and save big projects for days when I don’t have dance. Some weeks/seasons are easier than others. The weekends or late at night are also times when I try to get caught up or ahead on things.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
I've been a member of the National Charity League since 8th grade. It is a mother-daughter organization where we volunteer in our local community. I’ve volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Second Helpings, Moonlight Musicals, and Salvation Army (to name a few through NCL opportunities). I'm also a Lubbock Symphony Debutante. This entails volunteering at the symphony and enjoying the cultural arts. High school activities include being a member of National Honor Society. I'm currently the Social Media Officer for the Frenship Pom Squad as well. On Sundays, I like to volunteer in the nursery at my church.

Which volunteer experience has impacted you the most, and why?
Probably my volunteer work through National Charity League at Second Helpings. Second Helpings serves meals to the less fortunate. I’ve been able to serve individuals and families a hot meal that might not have had one that day or for a few days. Sometimes it is returning individuals that I might recognize and talk with. Other times it is new individuals that I get to meet and help.

How has giving back to your community shaped your perspective or priorities?
It has made me realize that I am blessed for the simple things that I have in life. I get to dance, hang out with my friends, go to school, and be a part of things that some do not have.

What skills have you gained through leadership roles like being Social Media Officer that you’ll carry into college?
Collaboration and communication. I’ve learned that I need to collaborate with my team and advisor on things that should or should not be posted. I’ve learned how to post stories that highlight our events for the community to see.

What else would you like to talk about?
Competitive dance and Pom competition season has started. My high school Pom squad qualified for Nationals this year. We head to Florida to compete against other Pom squads from across the country in February. This has involved intense Pom practices with extra hours of practice. We are excited and ready to compete at Nationals. In addition, I compete outside of school for a dance company called Revolution Elite Dance. This will be my final year, so I'm just making the most with my teammates and the time I have left dancing.

What does qualifying for Nationals mean to you personally?
I think it means that all the work that we have put in has been worth it. We’ve had highs and lows. Teammates have been sick or hurt. We’ve all had to push past the pain. We’ve had lots of good moments as well. I love that I’m ending my dancing career with a big competition on a national stage.

How do you stay mentally strong during intense training and competition seasons?
I try to remember the end goal. I try to have a growth mindset. I don’t let little things get to me. I just work on a mistake by practicing more.

As this is your final year with Revolution Elite Dance, what moments or memories do you hope to hold onto most?
The time I spent with my best friends. They really have become my people that I hang out with after hours, that I enjoy spending time with, and rely on to help me when needed. We’ve had so much fun the last few years together. Just like any sport, you have to bond to be successful. I feel like we have done just that. They will be missed – we are all going separate ways.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
Dance is the answer to this question. I have been involved with dance since I was 3 years old (mommy and me ballet class). Dance has taught me teamwork, resilience, and how to push through challenges even when hurt or tired. I have created lifelong friendships, and it has helped shape the person I am on and off the dance floor.

How has dance influenced the way you approach challenges outside of the studio?
Resiliency – keep working at it no matter what. You get stronger and/or smarter for the next time!

What advice would you give to younger dancers who look up to you and want to follow a similar path?
Start early and do not give up. Some days are better than others! I would also say find a studio with teachers and other dancers that push you; makes you want to do better.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
The photographer is a family member. She is my mother's cousin. She has a sense of style that I have always admired (the way she dresses, her decor at her house, and the way she presents herself). She has taken pictures of me and my family since I was a little girl. Her photography has helped me win several photogenic awards at dance competitions as well. She always has great ideas and locations for pictures too. We just love her!

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
For one session, I had requested some tall grass as the background. What I didn't know is that she had searched around town to help make this happen. She didn't have to do that, but she wanted to help me get the background I requested. That shoot ended up being adventurous as well! We had to jump around mud puddles, plus we saw a huge spider (swear it was a tarantula) and a snake. The shots ended up great though!

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I would love to be in the magazine for a few reasons. First, my photographer deserves some recognition. She puts up with my ideas and has patience while I change clothes and locations (lots of them). She has also traveled out of town to take my pictures. Second, being featured would be an opportunity to celebrate my hard work at school and outside of school. Third, what a fun way to end my Senior year in high school...being in a magazine!

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
After I graduate from Texas Tech University, I plan on attending dental school. If I win a scholarship, the money will go towards that dream. Dental school involves several more years of classes, books, and maybe even moving out of my hometown (dental school only offered at certain places). This scholarship would be a huge blessing.

What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?
My dream job if offered today – an orthodontist.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
I appreciate all my family and friends that voted for me during this contest. Thank you to Tonya, my photographer. Thanks to my dance teachers (school and competitive) for believing in me and for pushing me. Thanks to my parents and my grandparents for helping me on a daily basis.

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?
 Thank you for this opportunity!
If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
You would find me working out or shopping. Those are two of my favorite things to do.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
I’m excited about graduating from high school and going to college! I can’t wait to live in the dorms and go through sorority recruitment.

Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
I can walk on my toes. My feet are flexible due to dance.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
In 5 years, I hope to be in dental school earning my degree.

3 things on your bucket list.
1) Travel out of the country 2) Pet a dolphin 3) Attend a 3rd Taylor Swift concert

Kaitlynn Jameson

1/15/2026

Picture

Kaitlynn Jameson – Wisconsin
Nomination by Kimberly Jameson
Photography by Tara Rudy Photography
Issue 98 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Kaitlynn Jameson's love for music shines through everything she does—from playing percussion and viola, to singing in multiple choirs and a cappella groups, and performing in musical theatre productions at her high school and local community theatre. Through her leadership, she inspires others to find their voice, work hard, and support one another.

How did music first become such an important part of your life, and what drew you to explore so many different musical outlets?
Music became such an important part of my life in middle school. I was having a hard time finding ways to regulate my emotions so I would sit down and listen to music that represented what I was feeling and that would help me understand more about how I was feeling. I was really drawn to explore different musical outlets because of others around me. I was very curious because of how much fun that they were having creating their own music and I wanted to experience that myself.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments were not highlighted in your nomination?
I am currently in three extracurricular music programs along with taking part in two musicals and one play throughout the course of each school year. I find it inspiring that I am able to balance my good grades, a social life, a job, and my passion for music.

What strategies or habits help you successfully balance academics, work, friendships, and such a demanding performance schedule?
I try to create a schedule for myself or block off time slots for each of my extracurricular activities and my personal activities. It gets hard sometimes and I forget that I need to give myself time to just exist in my own space but I have been getting better at that.

What else would you like to talk about?
I am currently working on perfecting my ICHSA set for my school’s competition a’ capella group. It’s my third year performing in this competition. I have been a choreographer for our sets all three years. This year I arranged one of the songs for our set. I have always been passionate about performing at this competition with my friends/classmates.

How has your role as a choreographer shaped your confidence and leadership within the group?
Being a choreographer has given me the confidence to stand in front of my peers and share my creativity and teach them something that I have come up with. It has really helped me grow as a leader.

What inspired you to arrange one of the songs this year, and what was that creative process like?
I wouldn’t say that anything inspired me to arrange. I just really wanted to let my creative juices flow and share my musicality with my peers. The creative process was definitely all over the place. I would sit in front of my computer for hours listening to the song and trying to figure out all the correct chord progressions and background vocals. I know that there were times when I would spend hours on only two measures because I couldn’t figure out what the rhythms were but I really loved the experience.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I am very passionate about music. Music is the reason I get up in the morning and go to school. I love being able to create music. It brings joy to my day and I know that it brings joy to those around me. I want to continue my journey with music in college by going for either vocal performance or musical theatre.

How do you hope your love for music will continue to impact others as you move into college and beyond?
I hope that I am able to create music that will help people understand themselves just like the music that I listened to when I was younger. I also hope that my music will inspire others to follow their dreams.

When you imagine your future, what role do you see music playing in your life long-term?
I see music playing a very large part in my life. I want my love for music to continue to push me to be better and help me create new music for others to enjoy.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
My mom found my photographer on Facebook and decided to go with her because we both loved her photos. I loved that I was able to laugh throughout my entire session. She made me feel very comfortable in my own skin and that was a wonderful feeling.

What is a favorite memory you have with the person who nominated you?
One of my favorite memories with my mom is going to watch the musical Wicked and the Overture in Madison last summer. We had planned to see it in March of 2020 but I was cancelled due to COVID. I think because we had to wait to see it, it made the experience even more amazing.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I have always found it inspiring reading about people’s stories in these magazines and it would be amazing if I could be someone else’s inspiration.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I win a scholarship, I will use the money to continue my education in music in college.

What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?
I would love to be a professional singer/songwriter. It would be my dream to sell out stadiums and have a large platform to share my music with.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
I would really like to thank my parents and friends for always encouraging me to follow my dreams and continue pursuing my passions for music.

Photography by Photography by Jeremiah PLLC
Nomination: Emily is a tenacious and bright young lady, who is driven to serve others in her church and community. Her smile and laughter brighten the mood of everyone she encounters.

What do you believe motivates your desire to serve others so wholeheartedly?
I’ve always had the desire to help others, it’s always been something that I’ve felt called to do.
What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
I try my best to give back in any way I can. I currently work at a K9 rescue where we constantly receive dogs who have come from abusive situations and strive to give them better lives and help them feel the love they deserve. I also volunteer at my church every Sunday as a Sunday school teacher. I love what I do here because I've always loved working with younger kids and I also get to teach them Christ-like love through my actions and words.

What has working with rescued dogs taught you about patience, healing, and compassion?
Working with dogs who have been in abusive situations tend to be more skittish and unpredictable, so with that in mind it has taught me to be more patient with them not only for my safety but also so they can feel safe. Shelters are loud and can be chaotic when there’s a large number of dogs, so making them feel safe helps their adoption process. In order to do this patience and compassion are a necessity especially on some days when the dogs can seem out of control, so working here has definitely helped me improve in that area.

How do you emotionally navigate caring for animals who have experienced trauma?
When we get dogs who have been in unimaginably abusive situations the best way I navigate around that is by reminding myself that they’re safe now and that my coworkers and I are now in control of making sure they are comfortable and happy until they are adopted. I know I’m doing something right whenever the dogs who once wouldn’t allow a person near them get excited when I show up. This tells me that I’m doing my job and these dogs are happy despite their prior situations.

What do you find most rewarding about teaching Sunday school and working with younger children?
The most rewarding part of teaching Sunday school is building relationships with these kids and getting to the point where they smile when I see them on Sunday. Working with children around the ages of two to three can be difficult considering these kids are still so attached to their parents even if they’re only apart for an hour, so seeing them happy to be in my classroom tells me I’m doing something right and making them feel safe.

How do you intentionally model Christ-like love through both your words and your actions?
I do my best to speak with kindness and understanding. While sometimes I fall short I try in every way possible to make those around me feel loved and cared for.

What else would you like to talk about?
I am enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves where I am currently attending drill monthly to learn about my MOS before I leave for basic training. My current MOS is unit supply specialist, however I am planning on re-classing to being a Public Relations and Mass Media specialist. I have this goal because I have had a consistent interest in Journalism my entire high school career, so much so that I've earned the position as editor of my high school's yearbook staff.

What inspired your decision to enlist in the U.S. Army Reserves?
I knew early on I didn’t want to go the traditional route after high school. I wanted something different and to gain different experiences than what I am used to. Joining the military has always been an idea of mine since a young age but I never really knew exactly what I wanted to do. My love for Journalism sparked my interest in my career goal. When I started doing Yearbook in high school I knew it was something I wanted to do, however I wanted something more active, which being a journalist for the military aligned perfectly with.

How has your experience in journalism and yearbook leadership prepared you for a future in public relations and mass media?
I have learned a lot about journalism over the past four years of high school. I’ve learned how to write stories, captions, and mods; as well as taking good meaningful photos. Having these skills will be transferable to my future career in public relations and mass media which will make learning the job so much easier.

What lessons have you already learned through monthly drills that are shaping your discipline and mindset?
So far I have only been able to attend one drill weekend, however from that weekend I learned that everyone has a role to play and you cannot be the weakest link. Seeing how everything operated reminded me of a well oiled machine where everyone was working together for one objective. I saw teamwork and structure which seemed to be the key element for them getting the job done efficiently.

How do you hope to use communication and storytelling as a form of service in your military career?
I hope to use communication and storytelling as a way to tell the world what is happening. I strive to be as informative as possible so people can understand what’s going on in the world around them.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
Something I am passionate and could talk about forever would absolutely be the gospel. The overwhelming and unbreakable love of Christ is a topic that puts me in such awe. Knowing that a perfect and pure being had a sinner like me in mind when he gave up comfort and paradise in Heaven to give me an opportunity to join him in Heaven, despite my imperfections.

What does living out the gospel look like for you in your everyday life?
Living out the gospel on a daily basis for me looks like treating people with kindness. You never know what someone is going through so a simple, “you look pretty today” or “how are you” can go a long way, which is something I try to incorporate into my everyday life.

When challenges arise, how do you lean on your faith to stay grounded and hopeful?
I remember that whatever happens is a part of God’s perfect plan and that no matter what challenges I may face he will always be there as a safety net and to put me back on my feet.

Looking ahead, how do you hope to continue serving God, your country, and your community as you step into the next chapter of your life?
By working hard and sticking to my morals. I hope to reach my goals in the military by working as hard as I can and gaining as much knowledge as possible, while also keeping true to my faith and beliefs.

What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?
If I was offered a position as a Public Relations Officer I would accept it in a heartbeat. This leadership position would be an amazing opportunity for me and I would be honored to be offered it.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
I owe a huge thank you to my parents for helping me get to where I am today. Without their support and motivation I don’t know what my life would look like. They’ve encouraged me to challenge myself and work for what I want. They’ve taught me that there are no handouts in life and that you have to work hard to get anywhere, and this lesson has kept me humble as I face adversity and motivated to try to reach my full potential.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
My photographer was my dad. I've been blessed to have a dad with a talent such as this. Taking photos out in public where people may be watching has always felt somewhat awkward to me, however having my dad as my photographer makes the experience much more relaxing since I'm with someone I know well and not having to get out of my comfort zone with someone I don't know.

Are you a part of a model team with your photographer, and if so, tell us about it.
In a way, yes, having my dad as my photographer gives me unlimited opportunities to have pictures done without having to worry about cost.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
My thoughts of the person who nominated me, my dad, would be that he has been my greatest inspiration. Juggling being not only a father, a fire captain, and a business owner has been something that has always amazed me. I owe all credit to my love of photography to him, as he has taught me everything I know. I love my dad so much and I thank him for everything he has done and provided for me.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I would love to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine because it seems like an amazing opportunity to get out of my comfort zone while also competing for scholarships that can support my advancement into college and new stages of my life.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I win a scholarship I would use the money to support my goal of paying for college. I am currently enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves, and while the benefits give me tuition assistance I will still have significant costs. Reducing the financial stress of college will help me focus more on my studies and advancing in my military career as I enter this new chapter in my life as an adult.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
You would find me outside reading a book. I absolutely love reading!

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
Going to basic training and advanced individual training.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
Don’t give up and push yourself, you never know your full potential until you reach it.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
I see myself graduating from college and advancing in my career as a Public Relations and Mass Media Specialist for the Army.

Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
I enjoy singing, I sing in my church's youth band.

Who do you find inspiring?
I find my mom inspiring. She not only raised two children alongside my dad, she also completed nursing school at the same time which is so inspiring to me as a woman.

Ava McIntyre – Texas
Nomination by Susan McIntyre
Photography by Nicole Buitron Photography
Issue 98 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Ava McIntyre lights up every room that she walks into. She is smart, athletic and brings joy to everyone she encounters. Her smile is contagious.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
I am a hardworking and driven person who strives to be the best version of myself in everything I do. Balancing cheer and track has taught me discipline, time management, especially while maintaining strong academics, which are very important to me. I push myself to succeed even when things get challenging, and I never give up on my goals. I believe my determination and positive mindset inspire others to work hard. I lead by example, showing that dedication, effort, and passion, make it possible to achieve success.

What else would you like to talk about?
I am currently working toward earning my Certified Nurse Aide certification. I dream of becoming a nurse, so this goal is very important to me. I love learning medical terminology and gaining a deeper understanding of how our bodies function and how I can use that knowledge to help others.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I am passionate about many things, including track and field, cheer, and school, but something I could talk about forever is music. I love music and the way it allows me to express myself and connect with others. Music has always been a big part of my life, whether I am listening to it to relax, motivate myself, or get through stressful moments. It inspires me and brings me comfort.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
I met my photographer through my family. My brother had his senior photos taken by her, and I did as well. She is amazing, and her photos are absolutely beautiful. She always makes me feel confident about myself, which is something I truly love and appreciate about her.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
My mom nominated me, and she is truly amazing. I don’t know what I would do without her. One of my favorite memories with her is going to Six Flags when I was little and she would ride every ride with me, no matter how many times I asked to go again. She is a selfless, loving person and truly the best mom I could ever ask for.
Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to be featured in Inspiring Teens magazine to encourage girls my age to be confident in themselves and recognize their worth. Being a girl at this age can be challenging, and it is easy to doubt yourself. I want to remind other young women to dream big and chase their goals, no matter how difficult or overwhelming they may seem. With discipline and self-belief, anything is possible. Don’t give up and keep pushing yourself to be the best version of you, not anyone else.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I were to win a scholarship, I would put the money toward my education. I plan to attend Texas Tech University and major in pre-nursing. I believe the United States is in need of nurses who are dedicated to making every patient feel safe and cared for. Becoming a nurse who can do this is my dream. Receiving a scholarship would not only support my education but also help me work toward contributing to the future of healthcare in America.

What do you think it means to truly be kind, and how do you try to show that through your actions each day?

To truly be kind isn’t just about being nice to people but showing empathy and compassion. I show kindness through my everyday actions by going above and beyond for the people around me. Being kind isn’t just about the things that benefit you, but what benefits the people around you as well.

How has playing multiple sports shaped your mindset, confidence, and ability to work with others?
Playing multiple sports has truly shaped me into the person I am today. I am known for my reliability, timeliness, effort, and gratitude. Starting hockey freshman year was extremely difficult as I had never skated before, but it taught me to push through my failures. Eventually, as I got more comfortable skating, it built my confidence and my mindset around everything. That I can do anything that I put my mind to.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
For tennis, I was a varsity captain who was recognized for my leadership qualities and my outstanding teamwork skills. I also played in my high school’s advanced level symphony orchestra, which is tryout based. For orchestra, I was nominated for homecoming court by my classmates.

What did being a varsity captain teach you about leadership and supporting your teammates?
Being a varsity tennis captain taught me that even on bad days, you must be there for your team and show them how much you care. As a leader, it’s important to show support and encouragement, especially when things are tough. This helps build team morale and resilience, ensuring everyone feels valued and motivated to push through challenges together.

How did participating in a competitive orchestra environment challenge you in ways different from athletics?
Participating in a competitive orchestra challenged me differently than athletics by demanding a unique blend of individual precision. In orchestra, while individual skill is crucial, the ultimate goal is to blend seamlessly with the ensemble. Unlike athletics, where individual performance can stand out, in orchestra, you must have self-awareness and adaptability constantly to adjust to the tone, volume, and phrasing of the section and the orchestra as a whole.

What did it mean to you to be nominated for homecoming court by your classmates?
To be nominated was an incredible honor because it showed me their appreciation towards my contributions to the orchestra. It meant that they saw my school spirit, leadership, and liveliness and thought that I would be the perfect fit for that role to represent my high school orchestra.

What else would you like to talk about?
I’m currently working on becoming a manager at Culver’s to kickstart my management and leadership skills. My current goal is to go into project management and eventually own a business of my own one day! I love to be constantly doing things, and I am always up for challenges that life may throw my way!

What inspired you to pursue management at a young age?
My early interest in management stemmed from observing how my father manages his business and the benefits he has of being his own business owner. When I turned eighteen my part-time job offered me a management position which I thought would be a perfect fit for me since I am extremely organized and reliable. I learned that lack of strategic planning can lead to missed opportunities and unnecessary stress which made me interested in different management principles.

What skills are you learning right now that you know will help you as a future business owner?
I am currently learning about time management, organization, and leadership skills. By understanding and developing these skills, I will be able to manage a business effectively. I am also seeking different connections to find an area where I can add my experience to.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I love spending time with my family, especially on the lake. I’m very passionate about the outdoors, and love to go for hikes, bike rides, and to go for a swim. I love being athletic and am always willing to try new exercise classes including pilates! I love talking about fitness and bettering my health, and well-being.

Why do outdoor activities and fitness play such an important role in your happiness and well-being?
I truly believe that mind, body, and spirit play a huge role in every human. You must do something that feeds each of those categories daily. Being outside is good for your spirit and can sometimes give your body a nice cleanse from the indoors. When you’re athletic, it boosts your confidence and will overall give you a happy glow.

3 Things on your bucket list
Three things that are on my bucket list are to travel to most or all the fifty states including Hawaii for sure. Another aspiration is to own a cabin in northern Wisconsin one day in the far future. I love spending time with family, and I feel that it would be the perfect place to do so. Another bucket list trend is to go skydiving as I have a fear of heights, and I feel like that would easily get me over that very fast.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
If I had nothing to do, then there would be something seriously wrong because I always have something planned every single day. But in all honesty if I had a day off, I would spend it in northern Wisconsin on the lake with friends and family relaxing in a sunchair.

Looking ahead, how do you hope to continue growing personally and professionally while staying true to the things you love most?
I hope to continue to grow personally and professionally by tying my passions into my career through continuous learning, networking, and actively seeking projects that align with my values. This includes prioritizing my time to ensure that the goals I set each day are accomplished.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
I found my photographer online through Instagram. I loved how nice she was, and she was very on top of her work. Everything was very professional, and she knows exactly what she’s doing to get the right shot!

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
I loved how my senior pictures turned out, and all the laughs we had taking them. Some of the poses my photographer made me do were very silly or awkward, and it was very easy to laugh about them and have a good time.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I believe it’s such a wonderful opportunity, and it’s really inspiring, especially someone who is from Wisconsin. By participating in this magazine, I have shown my classmates what Inspiring Teens Magazine is and the impact that it has on people. This has shown me that there is no limit, and that anything is possible!

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
I will use the money to further my education in business management to become a project manager, and hopefully a business owner one day! I will start my career off by going to my local technical college to get an associate's degree in business management.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
I would love to thank my family, specifically my father. He showed me that determination can take you very far in life, and he sets the bar extremely high for my visions in the future. He’s inspired me to pursue my career in management and is always there to give me whatever advice I need.

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?
Something that I have learned in life is that you are the maker of your own success. However much effort that you put in day to day is the determining factor of the success that you will have. I wish people realized how much they are worth. Advice to younger peers is that you need to dream big always, and anything is possible.

Nomination: Cross Zeedyk is a senior at Hicksville High School and a dedicated student-athlete, excelling academically with Honor Roll recognition every semester, induction into the National Honor Society (serving as Vice President), and multiple Scholar Athlete and environmental science honors. Beyond athletics, he is deeply committed to his community through volunteer service and plans to attend college to pursue a business degree in agriculture, with the goal of leading his family’s farm operation.

How do you balance the demands of being both a high-achieving student and a multi-sport athlete while staying grounded?
I like to hang out with my friends and go hunting and fishing. Sometimes I just need to take a long nap.

What lessons from leadership roles like team co-captain and NHS Vice President have had the biggest impact on who you are today?
Knowing my teammates and friends look at me as a leader has built my confidence and makes me try hard to do my best for them.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
I had a life-changing experience on October 13, 2023. I wrecked my 1974 International Harvester pick-up truck on the way to school for an early morning Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting. The truck rolled, hit a pole and landed upright. I walked away with a cut on my chin that only needed four stitches. It made me realize how precious life is and how things can change in an instant. For my Senior Project, I am fixing it up. My dad is helping me with mechanical repairs, and we have a friend that is helping me with the body work.

How did that experience change the way you approach each day and the choices you make?
I don’t take anything as a given and I appreciate small stuff more.

What did working on your Senior Project with your dad teach you about patience, responsibility, and teamwork beyond the classroom?
We are still working on it, but a big moment was when we got it running again. It has a small block Chevy 350. My mom cheered when she heard it start up.

In what ways has that moment strengthened your faith or sense of purpose?
I always carry a cross with me. It was the first thing I found after the wreck. I feel like God saved me for a reason. I don’t know what it is yet, but I try listen to where He might be leading me.

What else would you like to talk about?
I really want to play football in college. I’ve talked to coaches and visited campuses from Division II and Division III schools in Ohio and bordering states. My high school is small, so I had to play on both sides of the ball as a running back and as a linebacker. I believe I have the determination, work ethic, and discipline to compete at the college level.

What have you learned about yourself by playing both sides of the ball at a small school?
I learned that I can push myself further than I thought possible. It’s one of the reasons I believe I can play at the college level.

How do you stay motivated during the recruiting process, especially when opportunities require extra persistence and effort?
I am very goal oriented. When I decide to do seeming, I will work as hard as I need to so I can real that goal.

What qualities do you believe set you apart as a potential college athlete?
I know I won’t be the biggest guy out there, but I think I have a big drive and a big heart for football. I will work as hard as I can in whatever role the coach sees for me.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I like to talk about philosophy. The meaning of life and beliefs about morality and ethics is very interesting to me. The teachers at my high school have us discuss issues at a deeper level, especially in history classes. It exposes us to ideas and views that we might not have considered before and helps us become better critical thinkers. Trying to understand people and our place in the world is fascinating.

How has studying philosophy influenced the way you lead, compete, and interact with others?
Jesus was a philosopher. Some people don’t count him as one. But his message of loving one another and helping other people is a great guiding principle for me.

Do you see connections between philosophical thinking and decision-making on the field or in life?
I try to look beyond the surface of things to see if there is a deeper meaning. Sometimes I overthink things though.

Looking ahead, how do you hope your values, curiosity, and work ethic will guide you as you pursue college, athletics, and your future in agriculture?
I hope it leads to success so I can give back to my community.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
Memories by Tawnya was taking photos at a basketball league for little kids. My younger brother played there, and my mom had his picture taken. Tawnya used a really cool background and Mom loved it. When my brother was in 12U baseball, one of the other moms hired Tawnya for team pictures. She did an amazing banner that they hung on the fence at the field. My mom loves Tawnya’s pictures and wanted her to do my Senior Pictures. I liked how easy she made it for me.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
Honestly, I didn’t want to get my picture taken and was doing it mostly for my mom. Tawnya made me feel comfortable even though I felt awkward. She was good at telling me how to pose. She didn’t pressure me and went at my pace. My favorite memory is when Tawnya was sitting in the middle of the road taking my picture while my mom watched for cars.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I think that because I’m from a farming community, I might be able to show a different way of life that is not like what other people have experienced. I also think that Tawnya did an awesome job and deserves a lot of credit.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
I will definitely use the money for tuition. I’m not sure what college I’m going to attend yet, but I want to major in business and financing. I plan to use that degree to help my parents run the farm more efficiently and possibly expand. Eventually I would like to head the operation of the farm and continue our family’s legacy of farming for generations into the future.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
I want to thank Tawnya for nominating me and all the people that made the effort to vote and help me out.

Kyra Sizemore

Kyra Sizemore – Kentucky
Nomination by Shonna Sizemore.
Photography by Keshia Amburgey Photography.
Issue 98 of Inspiring Teens Magazine.

Nomination: Kyra is a driven and compassionate young leader who founded the EBF Project, a community service initiative dedicated to making a difference. As Miss Teen Kentucky Festivals she represents confidence, service, and excellence with grace and purpose. She is also a young entrepreneur, proudly running her own baking business, KS Sugar Express, where her creativity and ambition shine.
Photography by Keshia Amburgey Photography
What does being a “driven and compassionate leader” mean to you personally, and how do you try to live that out each day?
To me, being a driven and compassionate leader means leading with both purpose and heart. It means showing up consistently, leading by example. Being compassionate means, you listen, understand and care. Helping others to grow and leaving people better than you found them. I live this out everyday by learning from setbacks instead of giving up, supporting others and using my drive to make a positive difference. It’s not just about achievement, it’s about service, compassion and choosing every day to serve with integrity and heart. Treating others the way you would want to be treated.

What inspired you to create the EBF Project, and how did the idea first come to life?
The EBF Project, Embracing Babies Forever, is a community outreach where we take donations for gently used stuffed animals and blankets, and distribute those to our first responders to use in traumatic situations involving children. We also receive new stuffed animals and blankets and donate those to the local hospitals, to use them with the newborns who may be less fortunate to have this type of luxury. It is amazing the comfort a cuddle of a stuffy and the warmth of a blanket can bring to a child that may have lost everything or just experienced something no child should ever have to experience.
My older brother, Keaton, started this project when he was in school, but after graduating, college and marriage, the outreach stopped. I began to see a greater need in our community for this type of service and asked if I could pick up where he left off, the answer, of course, was, YES! The outpour of support we have received from our community has been overwhelming.

How has serving as Miss Teen Kentucky Festivals shaped your confidence and strengthened your sense of purpose?
Serving as Miss Teen Kentucky Festivals strengthened my confidence by pushing me to use my voice with purpose. I learned that confidence comes from preparation, authenticity and service. This role has challenged me, in more ways than one, to step outside my comfort zone. It also clarified my sense of purpose, to use my platform to advocate for children and to turn my empathy into action. Wearing the crown is more than an honor, it is a responsibility that helps shape my leadership, deepen my commitment to service and inspires me to make a meaningful impact in my community.

As a young entrepreneur with KS Sugar Express, what have you learned about responsibility, creativity, and believing in yourself?
As a young entrepreneur with KS Sugar Express, I’ve learned that responsibility means showing up consistently, managing my time and finances and delivering quality even when it’s challenging. I love the ability to be creative, it has taught me how to stand out, adapt and turn ideas into something incredible and delicious. Most importantly, running my own business has taught me to believe in myself, to trust my abilities, take risks and grow from my mistakes. Building KS Sugar Express showed me that confidence is created through action and that when you pair passion with hard work, you’re capable of more that you ever imagined.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
I also have a passion for volleyball. It has taught me discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. Unfortunately, due to an injury, I had to set it aside. That experience was difficult, but it helped me learn resilience and the importance of finding new ways to grow and pursue my dreams. I hope my story shows that with support, perseverance, and a passion for helping others, we can all make a difference.

How did volleyball shape who you are, both on and off the court?
Volleyball taught me discipline, teamwork, and resilience. On the court, I learned the importance of trust, communication and pushing through. Off the court, those lessons carried into my everyday life, helping me handle setbacks, stay committed to my goals and support others. Even after stepping away from the sport due to injury, volleyball continues to shape me by showing me how to adapt, persevere and find new ways to grow. The port has taught me that strength isn’t just physical, its mental, emotional and rooted in determination.

What was the hardest part of stepping away from something you loved, and how did you find strength during that transition?
The hardest part of stepping away from something I loved was letting go of a piece of my identity and the future I had imagined. Volleyball was such a constant in my life for so many years, so walking away was emotionally challenging. However, I found strength by allowing myself to grieve the loss, then choosing to redirect that passion into new purpose. Through service, leadership and advocacy, I learned setbacks don’t end our story, they refine it. That transition taught me resilience, self-belief and the courage to grow beyond what I thought defined me.

How has your injury changed the way you approach challenges and setbacks in other areas of your life?
My injury changed the way I approach challenges by teaching me patience, adaptability and resilience. Instead of seeing setbacks as endings, I now view them as redirections that require growth and perseverance. I’ve learned to listen to my body, give myself grace and focus on what I can control. That mindset has been carried into every area of my life. Reminding me that strength isn’t about never falling, but about rising with greater clarity, purpose and determination.

What advice would you give to other teens who are facing unexpected obstacles or changes in their plans?
I would tell other teens that unexpected obstacles don’t mean your dreams are over, they mean your path may look different than you imagined. Allow yourself to feel disappointment, but don’t let it define you. Trust that growth often comes from challenges and believe in your ability to adapt. Setbacks can reveal strengths you didn’t know you had. Keep moving forward with faith in yourself and confidence in what’s still possible.

What else would you like to talk about?
My current goal is increasing The EBF Project. To focus on partnering with more first responders and hospitals to provide comfort kits—stuffed bears and blankets—to children experiencing trauma. These items offer immediate emotional support, helping children feel safer during medical emergencies, accidents, or crisis situations.

Why was it important to you to focus the EBF Project on children experiencing trauma?
It was important to me to focus on the EBF Project, Embracing Babies Forever, on children experiencing trauma because they often feel scared, powerless and forgotten in their hardest moments. I want to provide something that brings comfort when words aren’t enough words. A simple bear or blanket can provide a sense of safety, normalcy and reassurance during overwhelming situations. By focusing on children, the EBF Project reminds them that they are seen, loved and not alone. It allows compassion to meet them exactly where they are, when they need it most.

What do you hope partnerships with first responders and hospitals will accomplish in the long term?
I hope partnerships with first responders and hospitals will create a lasting network of support for children experiencing trauma. By working together, we can ensure that every child who faces a difficult moment receives comfort, care and a reminder that they are not alone. In the long ter, I hope these partnerships raise awareness about the emotional needs of children, inspire more community involvement and build systems that prioritize kindness and healing alongside medical care. Ultimately, I want these connections to leave a lasting impact on both the children and the communities that serve them.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
My community outreach. The EBF Project has that rare combination of heart, purpose, and real-world impact. Providing bears and blanket kits for children in trauma, right at the moment they need comfort most, is powerful. You’re meeting kids where they are—often scared, overwhelmed, and surrounded by unfamiliar faces—and offering something that says, “you’re not alone, you’re safe, you’re cared for.”

Why do you believe comfort and compassion are just as important as physical care during traumatic moments?
I believe comfort and compassion are just as important as physical care during traumatic moments because emotional healing is a crucial part of recovery. A child who feels seen, safe and cred for is more likely to cope with fear, pain and uncertainty. Physical care addresses immediate needs, but compassion helps build trust, resilience and hope. Small gestures, like a bear, blanket or kind word, can leave a lasting impact, reminding a child that they are not alone and that someone cares. In moments of trauma, empathy can be just as life changing as medicine.

How has giving back through community outreach shaped your identity and future goals?
Giving back through community outreach has shaped my identity by teaching me empathy, leadership and purpose. Serving others helped me realize that my voice and actions can make a real difference, no matter my age. It’s shown me the importance of using my experiences to uplift others and lead with compassion. These experiences have also influenced my future goals by inspiring me to pursue paths rooted in service, advocacy and impact. Community outreach didn’t just help others; it helped me discover who I am and the kind of leader I want to become.

Looking ahead, how do you hope your leadership, service, and passion for helping others will continue to grow and inspire change?
Looking ahead, I hope my leadership, service and passion for helping others continue to grow by taking on bigger challenges, learning from every experience and finding new ways to make a meaningful impact. I want to inspire change by showing others, especially young people, that even small acts of kindness and dedication can create tipple effects in their communities. My goal is to lead with compassion, empower others to use their voices and build projects that not only address immediate needs but also leave a lasting, positive impact for years to come.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
I met Keisha during my eighth-grade year. She took my snowball pictures and we immediately clicked. She has taken ALL of my milestone pictures and then some ever since. These most recent pictures are to celebrate the new year in an old Hollywood glam setting. I absolutely LOVED the whole experience. From the set up to the lighting. It was simply PHENOMENAL!

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
When my mother nominated me for Inspiring Teens Magazine, I felt everything at once — proud, surprised, and deeply emotional. It wasn’t just the recognition that mattered. It was knowing that someone who knows me better than anyone else truly believed in me. That belief has stayed with me ever since. There are so many memories it would take days to cover, but she has always been my biggest supporter, in everything. I honestly wouldn't be where I am today without her.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
Wanting to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine isn’t about attention — it’s about impact I want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine because I believe stories have power. When someone reads about a real person making a difference, it reminds them that they can too. If my story can encourage even one person to keep going or to help someone else, then it’s worth sharing.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
Winning the Inspiring Teens Magazine scholarship would mean the opportunity to further my education in cosmetology. It would help me invest in my future and continue working toward a career that allows me to build confidence in others.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
I would like to thank my family, especially my mom, who has been my biggest supporter and constant source of encouragement. I’m also grateful to my mentors, coaches and community members who believed in me, pushed me to grow and supported me through challenges and transitions. Their guidance, faith in me and unwavering support helped shape my confidence, resilience and passion for service. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the love, sacrifices and belief of those who have walked alongside me on the journey.

What does leadership mean to you, and how do you intentionally lead with both confidence and kindness in your everyday life?
Leadership to me means all kinds of things; it means not being afraid to go first when others hesitate, it means being someone to look to when people need answers, and it means guiding others to succeed as I have. I’ve always been told that I am a natural-born leader, so sometimes leading is just something that happens, not something I go out of my way to do. In my everyday life, I lead by being a mentor to younger students, by speaking up in class, and by even just being a friendly face in the hallway.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
Outside of my nomination, I am a leader within my community. I am the salutatorian of my class, the FIRST Robotics team captain, and the Treasurer for both the National Honor Society and Business Professionals of America. Overall, throughout my school years, I have become a major leader for other young women looking at STEM-related jobs, and have inspired them to follow their passions as I have done.

As a FIRST Robotics team captain, what leadership lessons have surprised you the most while working with your team?
I have learned so much about leadership just from being the team captain. I am one of 3 girls, currently on the team. I have learned that making connections is extremely important for success and that teenage boys are not as scary as they can seem. I feel like that, honestly, is the most surprising thing that I learned while working with this team. Another lesson I learned about leadership from this team is that just communication can bring a team together so much more than any sort of team bonding activity can.

Can you describe a moment when you realized your voice or actions inspired someone else to step outside their comfort zone?
One of the main times when I realized that I influenced someone to step out of their comfort zone and try something new was when I was talking about Business Professionals of America with a friend, and it influenced her to try it. She thought the club was all public speaking, but then I mentioned that there are accounting tests and design challenge events too, and she was hooked. This kind of thing was very out of her comfort zone, but she ended up getting first in her event at regionals and made it to the state level.

What else would you like to talk about?
A current project that I am working on is a bridge design for the state and national high school bridge building competition. I am one of 2 girls at my high school to do this, and we have to design a half-through arch bridge that weighs the lightest and holds the most weight out of balsa wood, string, and wood glue. My team currently holds the class record for the highest weight held on the lightest bridge. In this project, I have shown that even though it’s a male-dominated competition, I can thrive and succeed.

Your bridge-building project is highly competitive—what challenges pushed you the hardest, and how did you overcome them?
I feel like my team has had to overcome a challenge of patience and persistence. Sometimes it's easy to just give up when your design doesn’t work how you want it to, and my team has had to overcome that; we push each other to keep going. I’m not afraid of public speaking; I am a chatterbox if anything, but my teammates have had to get past this struggle, and I've helped them persevere.

Being one of only two girls at your school in a male-dominated competition takes courage—how has that experience strengthened your confidence?
I feel like being a girl in a male-dominated competition has strengthened my confidence in many ways. I have become less intimidated by larger crowds and tend to speak up more when I have something to add. Overall, this challenge has made me more certain that I can succeed as an electrical engineer (a male-dominated field), which is what I want to do in and after college.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I am very passionate about leading to show others that they can do it too. I have done this in many settings, whether it be in peer mentoring programs or being successful in STEM-related fields as a young woman. I hope to continue to inspire others to go outside their comfort zones and try new things so that maybe it will spark a new passion for them, too.

What does success look like to you beyond awards, titles, or records?
Success looks like many things to me, beyond recognition, but generally, I feel that success looks like being proud of what you have done and where you have ended up. I feel like it is also seen as feeling accomplished and happy with the results of the effort you put in to get to where you are.

How do humor and positivity play a role in your leadership style, especially during stressful or high-pressure moments?
I’ve been told that I am the kind of person who works very well under pressure and stress. I am a very empathetic person, and I bring this into the way I lead. I am able to tell when others are getting overwhelmed or stressed out, and I usually am able to stay positive through this, which makes others feel better during these times, too. Bring positivity and humor into leadership, doesn't make you a bad leader or seen as less important; it makes others willing to act under your guidance and comfortable to be themselves around you.

How did you find your photographer, and what did you love most about the experience?
My photographer is very well known in my area. Last spring, I was looking to book with her for a senior photo session and saw that she had this opportunity to become a senior representative for her studio. I applied, and got accepted, and so far we have done 4 photo shoots together, and we have become friends this way. We have had many laughs and amazing photos, and we always have a good time together.
Tell us more about being a senior representative.
My photographer has this program called the “senior representatives,” and it’s pretty much like a modeling team that I am a part of. We do all of these fun photoshoots with each other and have grown close over our senior year so far.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
The person who nominated me is my photographer. In my personal senior session, we went to the beach for a few pictures at sunset. The water was freezing, but my photographer went right into the water, in jeans, to get the right angle for the picture, and it turned out phenomenal. We were laughing so hard that she ended up having to stay in the water for a few minutes to get the right picture.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine because it is something I never thought I would get the opportunity to do. I also want to be in the magazine to build up my confidence and get more comfortable with being featured in a public setting. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be in a magazine and am excited for all that is yet to come.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
Next year, I am planning to attend college for at least a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. I would put the scholarship money towards this degree, so that I can get out of college with as little debt as I possibly can.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
I’d like to thank my mom for helping me get where I have gotten today. She has always been my number one supporter, encouraging me to try new things and always cheering me on from the sidelines. She has always told me that I can do anything I put my mind to, and she is the one who inspires me to keep striving for better.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
You would definitely find me on a beach somewhere. I love soaking up the sun and getting tan!

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
In general, the spring is very busy for me, with many competitions for many clubs, but I am excited for another year of competing and making more friends through it.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
I would tell them that you have to work for everything you want, and that's how I've gotten where I am. No one is just going to walk up to you and give you everything; you need the drive and passion to pursue it.

What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination?
My favorite pastime that hasn’t been mentioned yet is cooking. I love making food for my family and friends.

3 Things on your bucket list
See the ancient architecture in Greece and Italy
Travel the world as much as possible
Become rich (hopefully someday in the future!)

Who do you find inspiring?
I feel like my biggest inspiration throughout high school has been my older sister. She's a grade ahead of me, and I’ve been following in he footsteps.

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?
I am very grateful for this wonderful opportunity, and good luck to everyone!!

Nomination & Photography by Capture Life Photography by Davinda
Issue 98 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Kelsey Dillon embodies true grit, grace, and—most importantly—intention. She pours love, encouragement, and positivity into everyone around her. Kelsey has also learned to pour that same love back into herself—a strength earned through some of her hardest moments. Her determination to persevere—and keep lifting others—is what makes her genuinely inspiring.
Photography by Capture Life Photography by Davinda
What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
When I was nine, I was diagnosed with a chronic pain disorder called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) in my shoulders, arms, wrists, and hands. At that time, I was a competitive gymnast. One of the first things you’re told when diagnosed with CRPS is to keep moving, so when gymnastics was no longer possible, I redirected my passion and became a dancer. After an accident last year caused CRPS to develop in my back, I now face even greater challenges, but I will never stop moving forward.

How did being diagnosed with CRPS at such a young age shape the way you view resilience and self-belief today?
Being diagnosed with it at a young age forced me to confront challenges that I never expected to face so early in life. It reshaped my understanding of resilience - not as pushing through pain blindly, but as learning how to adapt, advocate for myself, and keep moving forward even when it hurts. I learned that self-belief isn’t about ignoring limitations, it’s about trusting myself to find new ways to succeed despite them. Today, that experience gives me a deep sense of empathy, patience, and confidence in my ability to overcome obstacles, even when the path isn’t clear.

When gymnastics was no longer an option, what lessons did dance teach you about adapting your dreams without letting go of your identity?
When gymnastics was no longer an option, dance became a way for me to adapt my dream without losing who I was. It taught me that letting go of one path doesn’t mean letting go of passion, discipline, or self-expression. Dance allowed me to honor my love for intentional movement and music while listening to my body in a new way. Through that transition, I learned that identity isn’t tied to a single activity, it’s shaped by the values and passion we carry with us, even as our dreams evolve.

What does “never stop moving forward” look like for you on days when pain or setbacks feel overwhelming?
On days when pain or setbacks feel overwhelming, “never stop moving forward” means slowing down without feeling like I’ve failed. I’ve learned that I don’t have to push past my limits to make progress because slow progress is still progress. Sometimes I need to pause, listen to my body, and give myself time to get through tough days. It’s so important to avoid burnout because with CRPS, if you’re not moving forward, you’re moving backward. By respecting my limits, I remind myself that it’s okay to take the time I need, as long as I keep moving forward.

How have your experiences with chronic pain changed the way you show empathy and encouragement to others?
Since my CRPS is invisible, nobody I meet would know that I have it unless I told them. Even with most of my friends and family knowing that I have CRPS, it often gets forgotten about because they don’t have a visual reminder. Because of my CRPS, something that I often remind myself and others of is that you truly do not know what anybody else is going through. This has taught me to approach everyone with patience, compassion, and understanding, and to offer support without judgment, knowing that even struggles we can’t see are real.

What else would you like to talk about?
This year, I established a Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) Promise Club at my school. I’ve always been an advocate for kindness, and being in my senior year, I wanted to leave something bigger than me behind when I graduate. SAVE Promise Club is a program from the Sandy Hook Promise, and its goal is to spread kindness and create a positive and welcoming school environment. Through this club, we’re building a school that encourages inclusion, peer support, and awareness, while empowering students to look out for one another and use their voices to create positive change.

What inspired you to start a SAVE Promise Club at your school, and what impact do you hope it will have long after you graduate?
I’ve wanted to start a club like SAVE since eighth grade, but I wasn’t able to get it off the ground until this year. I wanted to create something bigger than myself and bring a more positive, kind, and welcoming environment to my school. I’ve seen how small actions can brighten someone’s day, and I wanted to give students the tools to make those actions intentional. I hope the club continues to foster empathy and understanding long after I graduate, empowering future students to embrace kindness and make a lasting, positive impact.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I am endlessly passionate about occupational therapy (OT) because it truly gave me my independence back. When I was first diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), I had lost the ability to do many of my daily activities by myself - I wasn’t even opening doors. By the time I had finished OT, I was functioning almost normally. I can even go bowling or rock climbing now. Occupational therapy gave me my life back, and I’ve realized that I want to do that for others who are struggling. I plan to pursue a career in OT when I graduate.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?

My photographer is Davinda Baldasare. She owns Capture Life Photography, and I first met her when I was about ten years old. My mom wanted to get pictures of my sister and I, and Davinda was the perfect match. When I got into high school, I joined her Teen Team. Throughout high school, Davinda digitally documented my growth, and I think that’s my favorite thing about our relationship. Davinda has captured my growth from the time I was in elementary school, to now, when I’m getting ready to graduate High School.

Tell us more about the Teen Team.
Throughout high school, I was on a model team that promoted kindness and positivity among teens in my community, called Teen Team. From freshman year to junior year, we had group photoshoots, birthday photoshoots, bonding events, and even times when we did outings for local charities. Teen Team helped me grow my confidence and meet other people my age, at a time that is often isolating and lonely. Additionally, as one of Davinda’s seniors, we get to participate in her Senior Team, which is essentially the same as Teen Team, but for Seniors!

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
My photographer, Davinda Baldasare, nominated me, and I’ve known her for many years. Davinda was the photographer who took my senior pictures, and when my family was at my image reveal, my mom recalled something that I said earlier this year. I had said, “Davinda takes pictures of me the way that I see myself.” Nobody else captures me quite like Davinda does. In our sessions, she brings out my personality, and it really shows in the pictures she takes of me.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine to share my story in hopes that it encourages other teens facing challenges to keep going. Living with chronic pain has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of kindness - lessons that I want others to see reflected in themselves. Being in Inspiring Teens Magazine would allow me to use my voice to inspire confidence, perseverance, and hope, while also showing that setbacks do NOT define you. I want to remind others that they are capable of more than they think.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I win a scholarship, I will use the money to help fund my education in occupational therapy. It would ease the financial burden of tuition, textbooks, and living expenses, allowing me to focus fully on my learning. This scholarship would not only support my academic goals but also help me continue my journey toward becoming an occupational therapist who empowers others to regain independence and confidence.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
First, I’d like to thank Inspiring Teens Magazine for giving me this opportunity. I’m grateful for my parents, who have been supportive of my crazy ideas and dreams since I was little. I’m lucky that my sister, Kristen, has been there when I needed to vent or talk through something stressful. I would also like to thank my boyfriend, Brice, for believing in me even when I don’t, and for teaching me to be brave and do hard or scary things. Finally, I’d like to thank anybody who has voted for me, shared my story, or supported me in any way.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
I’ve been involved in my school’s Drama Club since eighth grade, and I’ve recently been inducted into the International Thespian Society. Throughout my time in Drama Club, I’ve played some of the most fun characters, including a lead in one of our one-act plays, Meg March in Little Women, and the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. This year, I get to play Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, a role I’ve loved since I was little. Performing Dorothy for my senior year feels like a full-circle moment, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
One of the most important things I’ve learned is how to make lemonade out of lemons. Learning to work with what you’re given can change how hard challenges feel. Living with CRPS has forced me to keep going even when I don’t feel like it, and I carry that mindset into other situations. For example, when my boyfriend was in Air Force basic training during Homecoming, it was hard not being able to go with him. My best friend (hi Riley!) and I decided to run for Homecoming Court as best friends and we both won, becoming Homecoming Queens.

Nomination by Shannon Cinicola
Photography by Jessica Coulson Photography
Issue 98 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Jaley is an inspiring teen because of her character, volunteerism, and service to others and her community. She is an excellent student and athlete who gives to others unselfishly. She has received countless awards for her volunteerism and leadership skills.
Photography by Jessica Coulson Photography

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
I was incredibly proud to be named the 2025 Overall American Heart Association Teen of Impact Winner for West TN. One of the most meaningful moments of my life was receiving the Presidential Volunteer Service Award in 2022, 2023, 2024. I’ve also had the privilege of playing soccer for the past eleven years, and being named an All-District Player for my high school this year. I currently maintain a 3.98 GPA, and I’ve enjoyed being involved in several clubs, including National Honor Society for four years and a member of Student Council.

What else would you like to talk about?
My future goals are deeply rooted in my desire to help others. I aspire to become a clinical psychologist so I can work with children who have experienced trauma. Currently, I am honored to serve as a Lights, Camera, Fashion Model, raising funds for St. Jude and supporting their mission. I am also the reigning Miss Golden Circle Iris Teen and am preparing to compete at the state level for Miss Tennessee Volunteer Iris Teen. My platform is child abuse awareness, a cause that is very close to my heart. Through fundraising efforts and volunteering at my local Center.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I am deeply passionate about volunteering and community service, especially when it comes to advocating for children. I have dedicated more than 1,000 volunteer hours to the Carl Perkins Center, an experience that has been incredibly meaningful to me. I am currently completing an internship with the organization, allowing me to further my involvement and understanding of the important work they do. In addition, I am currently raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as a Lights, Camera, Fashion Model. Fundraising is something I truly enjoy, as it allows me to focus on caring for others and making a real difference.

What values or experiences do you think shaped your strong commitment to service and leadership at such a young age?
My commitment to service and leadership is deeply rooted in my faith. From a young age, I was taught that servant leadership is most important and leadership should be centered around serving others with humility, love, and integrity. My faith showed me that every person has worth and that we are called to care for one another, especially in moments of need. Serving others became a way for me to live out my faith, not just through words, but through actions. At a young age, I experienced trauma and knew that helping others was a form of therapy.

How did it feel to be named the 2025 American Heart Association Teen of Impact Winner, and what did that recognition mean to you personally?
I was very honored to be named the West TN Teen of Impact and also honored to represent West TN Healthcare. I enjoyed working with the Director, Ms. Amy Morris and appreciated her support throughout the program. I am excited to be able to mentor those who are working to be the winner for 2026.

Receiving the Presidential Volunteer Service Award multiple years in a row is a huge accomplishment—what motivates you to continue giving so much of your time to others?
Receiving the Presidential Volunteer Service Award was truly humbling. Every community service hour reminds me that my presence, time, and effort mattered to someone. Building relationships and knowing that my actions have made even the slightest impact in someone’s life makes the commitment feel worthwhile. Service has become part of who I am— gives me purpose beyond myself.

How has being a student-athlete for over a decade, especially playing soccer at a competitive level, influenced your discipline and work ethic?
Being a student-athlete for over a decade, especially playing competitive soccer as a goalkeeper, has strongly shaped my discipline and work ethic. As a goalkeeper, I learned that dedication to the team and consistency in my actions matter every single day, even when recognition never came. One mistake as a goalkeeper can change the outcome of a game. The game and position have taught me accountability, mental endurance, and the importance of staying composed under pressure. The pressure of the game helped me become a stronger person who found confidence in myself. Balancing practice, games, and academics required structure and self-discipline, and it pushed me to hold myself to high standards at all times. Over time, I developed a strong love for the game that became a source of strength and purpose.

With such a demanding schedule, how do you balance academics, athletics, leadership roles, and volunteer commitments while maintaining a 3.98 GPA?
I believe the key word is balance. You have to set goals for yourself and push yourself to reach those goals. I can say that the most important key to managing all these important areas in life is having the best support system. I have the best family and friends who are always rooting for me and there if I am need them.

What inspired your goal of becoming a clinical psychologist, particularly working with children who have experienced trauma?
My interest in becoming a clinical psychologist, particularly working with children who have experienced trauma, developed from my own trauma I experienced at a young age. The trauma I experienced shaped my emotional, behavioral, and cognitive development. Children are often deeply affected by trauma but may lack the voice or resources to process it on their own. I am motivated by my own experiences to be able to understand where they are in life and how to help them cope with their situation and understand they are not alone.

Your platform of child abuse awareness is deeply meaningful—what led you to choose this cause, and why is it so important for teens to speak up about it?
My platform with child abuse awareness is so meaningful to me because my passion is to be a voice for others. I experienced child abuse as a young child by my biological father. At the time. I felt alone and I chose to advocate for child abuse awareness because too many children grow up believing their pain doesn’t matter or that no one will listen. Abuse often brings silence, fear, and shame, and that silence can last a lifetime. I care about this cause because every child deserves to feel safe, believed, and protected. Speaking up isn’t always easy, but it can be life-changing—for someone who has been waiting to be seen and heard

Can you share a moment from your work with the Carl Perkins Center that truly changed your perspective or reaffirmed your passion for advocacy?
There are several moments that come to mind, but my most touching memory involves what are called the “Cubbies.” The Cubbies are sponsored by individuals or businesses and include a book and a teddy bear those children receive during their initial visit with a social worker. Something as simple as a small gift can help a child feel safer, calmer, and less alone during an incredibly difficult moment. Because these Cubbies are so meaningful, I always choose to sponsor one. In one particular case, a teenage girl came into the Center and specifically asked for my cubbie. She shared that it made her feel more relaxed being there because she knew me and we were friends at school. In that moment, everything came full circle for me. I realized I had been able to bring comfort to someone who was experiencing the same kind of pain I had gone through years before. It reminded me that even small acts of kindness can create powerful moments of healing.

As a Lights, Camera, Fashion Model raising funds for St. Jude, what have you learned about the power of fundraising and community support?
As a Lights, Camera, Fashion Model raising funds for St. Jude, I’ve learned that fundraising is about so much more than money—it’s about my community coming together for something bigger than themselves. I’ve seen how every donation, no matter the size, represents hope, compassion, and belief in children and families who are fighting battles they never chose. Community support has shown me that when people unite with a shared purpose, real change happens. It’s taught me that even one person’s voice can spark collective action—and together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. LCF has also helped me build relationships with girls all across West TN and make new friendships with them. I am also very grateful to Ms. Jenna King for leading all the girls, making LCF possible for the St. Jude children, and supporting me through this entire event. These are relationships I will always treasure.

Looking ahead, how do you hope your leadership, volunteerism, and advocacy will continue to grow as you move into college and beyond?
College will allow me to expand my understanding through education, research, and hands-on experience, helping me become a more informed and effective advocate. Beyond college, I hope to use my voice and leadership to create safer spaces for children, influence positive change in my community, and support those who need someone to stand up for them. My goal is to continue learning, serving, and leading with empathy—making a difference wherever I am.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
I found my photographer online and immediately knew I wanted her to take my senior pictures after seeing her work. Jessica was incredibly fun to work with and had wonderful ideas for locations and poses that made the experience enjoyable and natural. She made me feel completely comfortable, which allowed me to trust her and feel confident that she would capture the best moments. Jessica took the time to understand me and my expectations. These images mean so much to me and will be cherished forever—not only by me, but by my family as well

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
The person who nominated me was my mom, who has always been my biggest supporter. Together, we have faced many challenges, including difficult experiences that shaped who I am today. Through it all, she has shown me the importance of perseverance and the strength to keep moving forward no matter the situation. Because of her example, I strive to treat others the way I want to be treated and to approach every opportunity with grace and gratitude. The verse that comes to my mind that she has instilled in me is - "God is within her, she will not fall" - Psalm 46:5

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I would be honored to share my story. I hope to remind others that it is okay to be yourself, to chase your dreams, and to keep moving forward even when challenges arise. I am hopeful that my experiences will resonate with someone who may need encouragement. Having overcome obstacles in my own life, I want other teens to know that no matter what they face, they are not alone. With courage, faith, and support, it is possible to rise above difficulties and find success while staying true to themselves.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I were to win the scholarship, I would use the money for college. I will be graduating in May of this year, and I am excited about beginning my college experience. I would be excited to have additional funding to begin my education.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
As I have shared before, I am incredibly blessed to have a strong support system made up of my family and friends. I would like to thank my parents for their unwavering support and for always encouraging me to be the best version of myself. My mom is my biggest cheerleader, and she has instilled values in me that have shaped who I am today. She has taught me to have courage and faith in every situation. I am also deeply grateful for my stepdad, who raised me with patience, encouragement, and love. He stepped into my life during a very difficult time and offered guidance and care when I needed it most—even when I may not have been ready to receive it. He supports me in everything I do and loves me wholeheartedly, even when he didn’t have to.

Bailey L’Hommedieu

Bailey L’Hommedieu - Florida
Nomination by Laurel Barber
Photography by Alyssa Chappell Photography
Issue 98 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Bailey is a senior at Newberry High School in Newberry, Florida. She’s been a K-pop fan since before it was cool (her love of BTS started in 1st grade!) She’s always had a passion for exploring creativity through dance and drawing. With plans to attend Santa Fe College for her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Bailey’s goal is to touch the lives of as many children as possible in their most formative years, and inspire them to dance through their own challenges in life.
Photography by Alyssa Chappell Photography

What role do dance and drawing play in how you express emotions or work through challenges?

Dance and movement helps me lift my mood when I am feeling anxious or stressed or even mad. I can always turn music on, move to it, and immediately feel better. When I draw, it relaxes me and helps me find focus in my every day life. Both of these activities help center me on a stressful or especially hard day.

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
I moved in with my aunt and uncle when I was 12, and learning how to navigate life in a new home and new city as a young child is a challenge I’ll always be proud of thriving through. Getting my license and purchasing my first car was also huge for me. I started working and saving money at 16 because financial responsibility is important to me, and I’m very proud of that. My next big milestone I’m excited about is graduating from high school. I’m so close!

You’ve navigated a major life change by moving to a new home and city at 12. What did that experience teach you about resilience and adapting to change?
I learned that change is going to happen in life no matter what, whether that’s when you’re 12, 22, or 60. Somehow, you have to find the right mindset and try and find the positives in your situation. I also learned that it’s really important for adults to be 100% honest with kids about what is going on in their lives. You’d be amazed at how smart children really are and what they pick up on, so finding age-appropriate ways to tell them the truth is something all adults should continue to strive to do.

You started working and saving at 16 and even bought your first car. How has financial responsibility influenced the way you approach your future goals?
It makes my goals possible, because if the money is not there I’m really just dreaming, not setting goals. Financial instability is scary, and not a place I ever want to be. When I am saving money, I can see the visual growth and that motivates me to keep going. When I see the savings climb, I know I am closer and closer to the goal I want to achieve, and that feeling is really motivating.

What else would you like to talk about?
Becoming an educator for young kids is something that I love to talk about, because it’s a huge focus for me right now. I also love to travel. I’m going to Greece this summer. It will be my first European adventure, and I am so excited! Lastly, moving into student housing this summer and navigating life on my own is something I’m really looking forward to and proud of achieving.

What inspired your decision to pursue Early Childhood Education, and what kind of educator do you hope to be for young children?
For as far back as I can remember, when I was in school I always wanted to be on the other side. I thought it would be so cool to be in the teacher’s chair and loved playing “school!” I was always also the babysitter at family events, and it seems like kids have always gravitated toward me, so it just felt natural to be a role model for them. I hope to work with young kids ages 1-4, maybe as a preschool director or head teacher.

As someone who wants to impact children during their most formative years, what values or lessons do you hope they remember most from you?
I want them to know that you’re not going to get everything on the first try, and that’s ok. I want them to own their mistakes and learn to grow from them. I really want kids to know that it is always ok to ask for help. I want them to always feel safe with and be curious all the time.

Traveling to Greece will be your first European adventure. What are you most excited to experience, and how do you think travel shapes personal growth?
I am excited about experiencing a whole different culture and seeing how others live outside the US. I honestly don’t know much about Greece, so getting educated as we prepare is a huge part of the excitement. I am really looking forward to just walking around and soaking everything up. I think travel shapes personal growth by opening your eyes to other ways of life, and it helps you be a more open-minded person. It can also be scary to travel, so it always feels like overcoming a challenge and facing your fears in a way.

Moving into student housing and becoming more independent is a big step. What are you most proud of as you prepare for this next chapter?
Being able to afford it is a huge point of pride for me. I have the option to stay home because my college is local, but I really wanted the college experience of living with my friends near campus. I’m also really proud of making lasting friendships with my roommates, too. It’s really special to have good friends to go on this journey with.

If you could give one piece of advice to other teens who are navigating big transitions in life, what would you tell them?
Find something that you really love, whether it be music, art, movies, or whatever your thing is, and turn to it to help you through the tough times. As teens, we go through so many changes and challenges, and sometimes it can feel so overwhelming. Try not to give into the peer pressure just because “everyone else is doing it.” Stay focused on your goals and what’s important to you, keep working at it, and it will happen!

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I feel passionate about music, and I could DEFINITELY talk about it forever! Whether I’m just listening to it, going to concerts, or analyzing it like crazy, music has played a huge role in my life since I was a baby. It has been there for me through everything, and it never fails to put a smile on my face. You can always count on music to help you through anything. It helps me feel like I have complete control over a situation too, and I find that fascinating.

Music has clearly been a constant in your life. Can you describe a moment when music helped you through a difficult situation or gave you a sense of control?
I can’t think of one specific moment right now, but as an only child, I felt lonely at times. When I felt that loneliness, I turned on music and it always made me feel so seen and understood. I feel like I have more control over the situation because I can use it to escape to whatever world I want to at that moment.

How did discovering K-pop at such a young age shape your creativity and confidence as you grew up?
It helped me learn so much about a whole new culture, and it was so different than anything I’d ever heard which really fascinated me. When K-pop first came out, a lot of kids at my school made fun of it. Choosing to love it anyway and not care what others thought about me helped me gain confidence and just like what I like, regardless of what others think. When those songs come on, I automatically feel more confident and ready to take on my day.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
We found Alyssa Chappell by googling senior photographers in our area. We knew the experience we were looking for, saw her page, and knew immediately she was the woman for the job. It’s hard to say what I love most because from the first consultation to the image reveal, my entire experience was amazing. Alyssa made me feel so confident, and we had the best day ever at my photo-shoot. My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw my photos. Alyssa is incredible at her job...she really knows how to work it!

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
My favorite memory with my Aunt Laurel is being a bridesmaid in her wedding. I was so excited when she asked me to be part of it, because that was my first time being in a wedding party. She was such a beautiful bride, and everything was just magical. We danced the night away and there was so much happiness in the air. I was definitely taking notes for my future wedding someday!

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to be someone who teens can look up to. I want girls like me to see that they can be themselves. I want them to know they can have fun and achieve their goals at the same time, even if life has thrown them challenges that feel impossible. As a child I really needed that person, so being that for someone else who may feel lost or is seeking someone to look up to is something I’m really passionate about.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I win a scholarship, the funds will be used to support my goal of obtaining my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. I am relying solely on financial aid, scholarships, and my own income from Chili’s to pay my way through college, so every penny helps!

Are you a part of a model team with your photographer, and if so, tell us about it.
No, I am not part of a model team, but I certainly felt like a model on the day of my photo-shoot!

What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?
I think I would say a traveling makeup artist, because it would combine my love of art and travel. I’ve considered doing that one day in the future too, but for now I am focusing on my calling, which is educating the kids!

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
One thing that wasn’t highlighted is how committed I am to using my platform to uplift others my age. I’m proud of the holiday drive I initiated this year, where I help collect toys, clothes, and essentials for families in need. I also serve as a role model to younger kids in modeling, reminding them to stay confident and kind. Whether I’m on set, at school, or online, I try to show that you can chase your dreams and still make space to help others.

What else would you like to talk about?
Right now I’m focused on growing as an actress, model, and creator. I’m working on new photo shoots, communicating with donors for the Niyah Starlight Holiday Drive, and preparing for upcoming brand collaborations. My biggest goal is to inspire other teens to stay true to themselves and keep going even when things get hard. I also hope to continue expanding my holiday drive so it reaches more families each year. I love learning, trying new things, and using my voice in positive ways.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
I’m most passionate about encouraging other kids and teens to believe in themselves. I’ve been through moments where I had to find my own confidence, so I love reminding others that they’re stronger than they think. My friends often come to me when they’re stressed or dealing with mental health challenges, and I really value being someone they can trust. Listening to them has taught me how important kindness and patience are. Whether I'm modeling, acting, or just being a friend, I want people my age to feel supported and know they’re never alone.

What inspired you to start the Niyah Starlight Holiday Drive, and what has been the most meaningful part of helping families in need?
I wanted to help families who might not have enough during the holidays. The most meaningful part has been seeing how grateful kids and parents are and knowing that something I started can bring them happiness and relief. It’s taught me that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

How do you balance being a model, actor, influencer, and student while still making time to uplift the people around you?
I stay organized and set priorities. I make sure to dedicate time each week to my holiday drive and helping friends while also keeping up with schoolwork and my projects. Planning ahead and staying focused lets me do everything I love without feeling overwhelmed. Having a manager also helps keep me on track and focused.

What does it mean to you to use your platform as a space for positivity, confidence, and kindness for other teens?
It means I have a responsibility to be real, supportive, and encouraging. I want my platform to be a place where teens feel seen, inspired, and reminded that they can chase their dreams while being kind to themselves and others.

Can you share a moment when you realized your influence was making a real difference for someone your age?
When people my age started telling me that my kindness inspired them to give back too. They see a role model in me. Reading my community’s comments about having a big heart, especially during the holiday drive, showed me what I do matters.

What are you most excited about as you continue growing in acting, modeling, and creating new content?
I’m excited about exploring new roles, trying creative concepts in photo shoots, and collaborating with brands that share positive messages. Each project is a chance to learn, grow, and inspire others.

How has being a role model for younger kids in the modeling world changed the way you see your own journey?
Being a role model has made me more aware that other kids are watching me. I now see my journey not just as my own, but as something that can teach, motivate, and uplift others who look up to me.

What are some goals you have for expanding the Niyah Starlight Holiday Drive in the future?
I want to reach more families, partner with more donors, and create programs that provide essentials year-round, not just during the holidays. I hope the drive becomes a lasting way to support kids and families in need.

You mentioned helping friends who face stress or mental health challenges—what have those conversations taught you about empathy and leadership?
They’ve taught me to listen without judgment, be patient, and offer support in ways that really help. Leadership isn’t just about guiding others—it’s also about being present and understanding what someone might be going through.

What advice would you give to another teen who wants to pursue modeling or acting but struggles with self-confidence?
Believe in yourself and keep practicing. Everyone starts somewhere, and confidence grows when you push through fear and celebrate small wins. Surround yourself with people who encourage you and never give up.

What do you hope other teens feel when they see your work, your voice, or the impact you're making in your community?
I hope they feel inspired, encouraged, and reminded that they can achieve their dreams while being kind, helping others, and staying true to themselves.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
My grandmother, who is also my manager, found my photographer Kobe Levi. She had worked with him before through some of her other clients and knew he was really good at bringing out someone’s true personality. I really enjoyed working with him because he made me feel comfortable right away. His coaching helped me relax, pose naturally, and bring out my best expressions. We focused on both headshots and digitals, and I loved how professional and fun the entire experience felt. My second photographer, Valerie, we found online because she photographed someone we follow.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
My favorite memory with my grandmother and manager is our very first New York Fashion Week show. We shared every moment together, from getting ready to stepping backstage. She calmed my nerves, celebrated each step, and showed me how much she believes in me. That day made us even closer.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to share my story to encourage other teens. Even small accomplishments can inspire someone else to believe in themselves. This magazine is a chance to show that you can work hard, stay kind, and make your dreams real.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
I would use it to grow my career and give back. I’d invest in creating higher-quality content, taking more classes, attending youth career fairs, and expanding my holiday drive to help more families.

What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?
My dream job would be a professional model who work high end campaigns and actress who is a series regular, but who also creates content to inspire teens. I want to use my work to entertain, educate, and help others believe in themselves.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
I want to thank my grandmother, my parents ( James and Tierra), my uncle (Matt), my extended family, especially my cousin, Chris, who supports all of my shows, my friends, the designers, the brands, and my photographers. They’ve supported me, guided me, and encouraged me to always do my best and believe in myself.

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?
I hope my story shows that even at a young age, you can make a positive impact. Dreams take work, but kindness and perseverance make every step worthwhile.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
I would be in my basement making soaps.

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
I’m excited for new photo shoots, new auditions, and upcoming brand collaborations.

What is the hardest thing you have ever accomplished, and how did you do it?
Starting my holiday drive was hard because it required organizing donations and reaching out to families, but I stayed focused, made calls, and kept believing people will give. I was hoping for more gifts, but this was my first year. Hoping for more next year.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
Work hard, stay kind, and never be afraid to try new things. Believe in yourself and keep going, even when it feels hard.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
I see myself growing as an actress, model, and creator, while continuing to inspire teens. I might be just starting college.

What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination?
I love making soaps and selling it, I am also teaching myself to crochet. It’s a way for me express myself creatively.

3 Things on your bucket list:
1. Walk in Paris and Milan Fashion Week
2. Book more films
3. Attend a major industry event as a featured teen influencer

Who do you find inspiring?
Zendaya is inspiring because she’s talented, classy, and versatile. I like Salish Matter for her positivity and the way she encourages kids to be themselves.

What about you inspires others/why do you think you are inspiring?
I inspire others by showing that hard work, kindness, and confidence can help you chase your dreams. Also, no matter your age, you can make a difference.

Lacey Scott – Indiana
Nomination by Brandi Jordan
Photography by lifebylaceyphotography
Issue 97 of Inspiring Teens Magazine

Nomination: Lacey Scott is the most sincere teen I know. She worries about everyone's feelings and puts her worries and feelings off to the side. She lost her father due to suicide at a critical time in her life, starting junior high, and she has just excelled. She is studying to be an elementary school teacher, so she can reach more kids and make an impact in their lives.
Photography by lifebylaceyphotography

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments weren’t highlighted in your nomination?
I am a back to back All American in cheer. I got invited to a private IUS cheer practice. This past semester in school, I’ve been doing internships in a 3rd grade classroom. In the future I am planning on becoming a Kindergarten teacher.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
How excited I am to change children’s lives. I’m passionate about knowing that I will make an impact on my future students. Everyday when they walk into my room, they will feel loved and welcomed.

How has overcoming the loss of your father shaped the way you approach life, school, and supporting the people around you?
After losing my dad, it changed my perspective on life. Never take anything for granted. My mindset changed a lot. It has make me a much stronger person and has taught me that I can do anything and everything. Mental health is now something I can forever understand and help others know they are never alone. I believe I have become a more impactful person.

What does being a back-to-back All American cheerleader mean to you, and how has cheer helped you grow personally?
To me it means that for two years I have no held the title of being an All American Cheerleader. Cheer has mentally and physically changed my life. It has taught me that I cannot get in my head if I don’t hit a certain skill. Instead like in life, I have to get back up and try again. After doing cheer for so long, I have realized I don’t give up easy.

Can you describe what it felt like to be invited to a private IUS cheer practice and what you took away from that experience?
It felt amazing. I have done cheer practically my whole life. When I read that email, it made me smile so huge. Someone besides my coaches or family seen the potential I have.

You’re known for caring deeply about others—how do you balance supporting people you love while also taking care of yourself?
I have learnt that in order for a healthy relationship and friendships, I need to put myself first. If I’m not taking care of myself all things around me suffer. Things that I enjoy to take care of myself are going to get my nails done, open gyms for cheer, getting my hair done anything that involves having a reset. With resetting my mind, that allows me to be the best friend/support that people around me may need.

What inspired you to want to become a kindergarten teacher, and what impact do you hope to make in the classroom?
Ever since I was younger, I have always wanted to be the one in charge. I have little cousins who I have helped take care of since they were born. I love nothing more than being around children and helping them grow. The impact I was to have on my future students is that they know they are so loved and have a purpose. I want to push my students to be the best they know they can be.

How do you stay motivated and positive, even when navigating difficult moments or challenges?
I have learned in the past years everything happens for a reason. I always have my eyes set on the end goal. Not the storms that are being pushed towards me.

What qualities do you admire most in the teachers who shaped your life, and how do you hope to bring those qualities into your future teaching?
My math teacher Sophomore and Junior year, never let me give up even when I felt the need too. When I felt like I was having a rough day or needed someone to hear my thoughts, I knew she would always be ready to listen. Also the teacher that I am interning for, gives me many opportunities to work with her students. She has also given me the best guidance to prepare me for my future education.

How has cheerleading taught you lessons that you believe will help you as an educator someday?
Mistakes are progress not the definition of who you are. Cheer has also taught me you can’t have no mistakes every time, you have to work for it. You also can’t give up because you’re not getting it. You keep trying until you get it.

When you imagine your future students, what do you hope they feel when they walk into your classroom each day?
Every morning when my students walk in, I hope they feel loved instantly. I hope they know I care so deeply for them. I want them to be able to talk to me about their day or what’s happening in their life. My biggest goal is for them to feel comfortable and safe in my room.

What excites you most about the opportunity to change children’s lives, and how do you hope to make each child feel seen, supported, and valued?

I hope to make a lasting impact on my students just like some of my past teacher have on me. Overall I want my students to feel like their voice matters and is not ignored.

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
My friend had recommended me to Lacey. Lacey made me feel so welcomed and appreciated during our session.

Are you a part of a model team with your photographer, and if so, tell us about it.
Yes. I have met new people. I have been able to have conversations with them during photo shoots. It’s been nice meeting other seniors from different schools.

What is a favorite memory with or thoughts of the person who nominated you?
When we did our 4th of July photo shoot. We had some pretty amazing memories.

How did your mom participate with the 4th of July shoot to make it your favorite memory with her?
She helped me pick out my outfit.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I want to be recognized with my kindness to others. I want others to see the way I love others and the way I love God.I want everyone to know the type of person I am. I want to have an impact on other lives.

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
I will use it all towards my schooling at IUS for the next 4 years.

What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?
Kindergarten Teacher.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
My momma. If I didn’t have her consent support and love, I wouldn’t be where I am today. She always pushes me to be the best I can possibly be. Giving up isn’t an option.

She excels academically —ranked in the top 8% of her class and a 4.4GPA—and will graduate a Bright Futures Scholar, with a college certificate in Sustainability and the Seal of Biliteracy in American Sign Language. Photography by Stacey Johnson Photography

What inspiring qualities or accomplishments were not highlighted in your nomination?

Other accomplishments include MVP Varsity and 2x Scholar Athlete of the Year in both golf and softball. I also completed the Ducks Unlimited Ecology & Conservation Management certification. I have also been ranked nationally for softball, #45 infielder in the nation by Line Drive and #78 by Extra Innings. While softball has been a huge passion of mine, I pride myself in being the kind of teammate I look for in others. I lead my teams in prayer, and I am always staying positive and picking up my teammates.

What would you most like to talk about?
I am currently in the middle of the recruitment process to play college in softball. Once committing to the school which I will be attending, I will look forward to pursuing a degree in biology. My career goals are either to become an orthodontics or anesthesia assistant. For this school year, I am also very excited to play high school ball in the Spring where we will look to defend our FHSAA Class 5A State title. I am also currently active as a student Fellowship of Chistian Athletes at my high school and host weekly lunch meetings to spread the word and bring fellowship to campus.  either to become an orthodontics or anesthesia assistant.

What do you feel passionate about or could talk about forever?
GOD- I am a faith-filled student athlete who loves Jesus. I am always happy to spread the word and share that with my friends! Not only do I try to share it, but I always try to live it, and lead by example, not always easily to do as a teenager. This is exactly why I wanted to include my bible in my senior photo shoot, because HE is with me every step of the way.

What drives you to maintain such a high level of excellence both on the field and in the classroom, especially while competing in multiple sports?
As an athlete it is in my nature to love a challenge and try to overcome it so I always set goals and set a path for overcoming them.

How has your leadership in FCA shaped the way you approach being a teammate, competitor, and role model at your school?
I have just recently been inspired to become an FCA student leader. However, I have for a long time been a spiritual leader for my teammates, and those around me. I lead my teams in prayer and always try to keep him the center of what I do. Stepping into this new role has allowed me to be more of a vocal witness of Christ and to lead by example. Only successes that are achieved with him, and for him will last.

Can you share a moment from your softball career—big or small—that taught you something meaningful about who you are as an athlete?
The biggest and proudest moment of my softball career was our recent FHSAA State Championship. This was an extremely rewarding moment because it was years in the making! From making varsity as a freshman, my team and I worked towards that moment, every game got us closer to that goal! Wins are fun but truthfully it’s the losses that teach you more about who you are as a player and a team! Softball is a game of failure so learning to overcome the occasional hitting slump or errors on the field is what it’s all about.

You mentioned the importance of being the kind of teammate you hope to have. What does that look like in action during tough games or pressure moments?
I always bring a positive attitude to the game. I have learned over the years that pressure is a privilege and being able to stay focused and remember the goal during high-pressure situations is key. As far as striving to be the kind of teammate I hope to have, you can always find me cheering for my teammates or picking them up when they are down. I am equally as excited to celebrate their successes as I am my own. As a primary infielder, my role is to have my pitcher’s back. On the field you will hear me pumping up my pitcher and keeping her mentally in the game.

What has the college recruitment process taught you so far, and what qualities are you hoping to find in the program you ultimately choose?
The recruiting process has been extremely challenging but I know that it is all part of God‘s plan, and that I will find my perfect fit on His timeline. I have learned that you cannot compare your recruiting journey to any others and to trust the process.

With your interest in biology and future goals in orthodontics or anesthesia assisting, what first sparked your passion for the medical field?
I am probably one of the only kids in the world that loved having braces. I had the most amazing young woman orthodontist, who also happened to be a new mom. She made it such a fun and painless experience and she also showed me that you can have a rewarding career and be a mom and wife. My mom is also a biology professor so science has always been something we were exposed to growing up.

You’ve achieved national rankings in softball—what do you feel sets you apart as an infielder and competitor at that level?
I think one of the things that sets me apart is constancy and being coachable. My coaches know exactly what they can expect from me day in and day out, not perfection, but consistency and dependability to execute and get a job done. I do whatever my team needs when my team needs- no questions asked, no complaints.

How do you stay grounded and connected to your faith while balancing academics, athletics, leadership roles, and community service?
I read my Bible every night. It’s just as much a part of my routine as homework or practice. Making it a priority keeps me connected and grounded in the word. I also actually like to draw and have found journaling in my Bible a creative outlet that is spiritually connected too.

You volunteer with Special Olympics and youth softball programs—what impact has giving back had on you personally?
Volunteering is so rewarding! I began working with Special Olympics with my travel softball team back in middle school. I love seeing all the athletes out there giving their best and having fun. It inspires me to play with heart, despite the challenges. I have also volunteered with local Babe Ruth softball leagues in our town, and this allows me to give back where it all started for me. I won my first Babe Ruth All Star State Championship at 4 years old and even made it to the World Series multiple times over the years. So, to help younng athletes who are just beginning their first season is awesome. I remember all of the older softball siblings I have spent time with over the years, and how I always use to look up to them and I hope to be that for someone else.

Why was it important to you to include your Bible in your senior photos, and what message do you hope other teens take from that choice?
I wanted to include my Bible because my faith is so important to me and I wanted to send a message to other young people that it’s okay to be bold in your love of Jesus!

How did you find your photographer and what did you love most about the experience?
My photographer has been a close friend of my mom since I was very little, probably 3 or 4 years old. Our families quickly bonded and had so much in common! One of the things our family loves most about Stacey is that she truly has a Servant's heart and is always willing to go above and beyond for anyone. What I loved most about the experience, my first every professional session by the way, is that she made if fun and silly and made me feel comfortable, when I was clearly not. She has an eye for beauty!

Are you a part of a model team with your photographer, and if so, tell us about it.
No I am not. This was my first professional photo shoot actually.

What is a favorite memory you have with the person who nominated you?
My favorite memories with my mom probably involve just the normal girl days, spent shopping at Target and Starbucks. I also love all of the family memories we have made at Disney over the years! She is one of my biggest role models and my biggest fan. Her support driving me to practices or tournaments or flying me to college camps over the years has meant the world to me.

Why do you want to be in Inspiring Teens Magazine?
I would like to be in the magazine to encourage others to be bold- perhaps other teens who may be more of the humble, quiet leader type like myself. Step outside your comfort zone and to grow -take opportunities to step into the light (or camera lens in this case) and grow!

If you win a scholarship, what will you do with the money?
If I win the scholarship money, I will be using it for college!

What is your ideal dream job if it were offered to you today?
My ideal dream job is to become an orthodontist and maybe one day start my own company.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you to get where you are today?
Above all, my God and savior! He is the key to all my success. My parents are my biggest supporters doing whatever it takes to help me get closer to my goals.

If you had nothing to do and all day to do it, where would we find you?
Hanging out with friends or watching new shows!

What is up next for you that you are super excited about?
I’m super excited about college and starting that new chapter in my life. I’m also looking forward to taking the field and defending our State title this Spring!

What is the hardest thing you have ever accomplished, and how did you do it?
I don’t know if it was the hardest thing I have ever accomplished, but learning American Sign Language was certainly challenging. I was inspired to take classes because I have a cousin who is deaf and used sign language to communicate prior to receiving cochlear implants. Learning about deaf culture, and learning to sign was very different from the way we communicate with words. It’s a skill that has proved useful. I once helped communicate with a young fan who got hit with a foul ball at one of our games and I also have fun playing Silent Go Fish with my younger cousins.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today?
Start small and dream big!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans?
In dental school!

What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination?
Pickleball

Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
I can fold my tongue in 3 places like a W!

3 Things on your bucket list
See snow
Go to New York
Go to Paris

What about you inspires others/why do you think you are inspiring?
I hope I inspire others to turn to God and to live for Him!
