Mackenzie Revels – Florida Nomination & Photography by Alyssa Chappell Photography Issue 53 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Mackenzie Revels is inspiring because this young lady has a big heart, and she loves hard! Mackenzie would absolutely do anything to help a friend in a time of need and make sure they have a smile on their face. I have absolutely loved getting to know her throughout the process of her senior portrait experience and I am so thankful for having her in my life!
Why did you choose Alyssa Chappell Photography for your photographer? What was your experience like/where did you go, how did you plan, the whole work? What did you love most about it? This year is my senior year; I knew exactly who I wanted to photograph my senior pictures just from seeing her amazing work. I love Alyssa, not just for her beautiful talent but for her love and dedication to everyone she works with. We started our day at 6 am for makeup and hair. She stayed right by my side the whole time. When we started our journey to get all 20 outfits and 3 different locations into one day before we were out of daylight it was very stressful, but we were able to get it done just a couple of minutes before sunset. Not once did she seem stressed out or worried, she took over 2,000 pictures, and overall, it was an amazing experience! I will never forget the experience and will always love her.
What would you most like to be interviewed about? I would like to get interviewed about my love and passion for modeling. Since I was a young girl I have always pretended I was on the runway. My family always used to joke because no matter the weather I always made sure I looked fashionable. I have the great determination that I will succeed in my dreams and I will be successful one day!
What made you want to start modeling? Who is your inspiration and why? I wanted to be a model/actress ever since I was a little girl. My family always said I Should try modeling, especially my grandma. She is now passed, and I would want nothing more than to make her happy and show her that I will be successful with modeling. My inspiration isn’t a particular person. It would be all the girls who have set their minds on their goals and worked for what they achieved!
What is the hardest thing about modeling that people who don't model may not realize? One of the hardest things for me about modeling would be the mental block that can get inside your head. A Lot of people don’t see the mental part of something and how much it can affect a person and their purpose.
What do you think is the best part about modeling/what do you love most about it? I think the best part of modeling is that I get to show my true beauty and emotion just from a picture. A picture of yourself can show a lot about you. I love being able to show my family and friends my pictures.
What is your favorite memory and / or accomplishment with modeling? My favorite memory involved with modeling is going to New York. I loved walking around the city and seeing all the different types of styles. I would love to go model there one day.
What are your goals with it? My future goal with modeling is to make it into many more magazines. I would love to model for any big company and make it to Miami swim week or New York fashion week one day. Overall, I would love to make a career out of modeling and hopefully make a great impact on the world.
What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover? Something inspiring about me is the love I give to my family and friendships despite the troubles and losses I have faced that could've slowed me down. Losing someone you love knocks you down harder than anything in life, but that's when you choose to get back up and live for that someone. That can be difficult when you're so young. After losing my mema at a young age I decided I will step up and achieve my dreams!
Family is so important. What is a favorite tradition you have with your family? My family and I spend a lot of holidays together and we also try to get together as much we can. My favorite tradition with my family is our annual trip. Every year my parents and all my siblings take a trip to a different state each time. It is so much fun seeing all the new stuff we have never seen before, and we always have the best time.
What things do you love doing with your family when spending time with them? During the weekends or on holidays my family usually will come over and we will all go outside and eat. We always try to do fun activities and try new family games. We always have so much fun and laugh the whole night!
What will you miss most about high school and your friends there when you graduate? I have always loved school and especially coming and being with all my friends. I think the thing I will miss the most is all my friends I see at lunch and in the class. I also will miss all my favorite teachers I have seen every day for the past four years. This is a bittersweet time, and I will always be grateful for the time this high school has given me but now it’s time for the next chapter.
What is a favorite fun time you have had with your friends that you feel like you'll never forget? My friends and I always have so much fun together no matter where we go so it's so hard to pick one particular place. A very fun time my friends and I had was when we went to Daytona during the summer. We had so much fun and ate amazing food. I love going on trips with my friends it’s always the best time!
If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why? I could talk about body image on social media all day. I have always tried to maintain the perfect image for social media because that's just what it seemed everyone wanted. More and more people started to look perfect on social media. As I got older, I realized it wasn't about the image put online, it’s about how I am as a person on the inside. I know at the end of the day it doesn't matter how beautiful your body and face look. It's about how beautiful and pure I am from the inside.
What are the best and worst parts of social media and how do you find a balance somewhere in the middle? Social media definitely has its ups and downsides. I have always struggled with what is real and what is fake. Although social media is such a great way to show off the talent and a great way to communicate with people, it can be super dangerous physically and mentally. One way I say I balance social media is by not believing everything I see; anyone can post anything. The social media world can be very discouraging when it comes to body image and beauty in general. I like to follow the positive accounts to keep the positive post going through my feed.
