Alana Greene - Florida Nomination by Nichole Greene Photography by Alana Greene Issue 53 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Alana has overcome fear and adversity through her final years of high school and first year of college. She pushed past bullying and stereotypes to become successful and strong. She has maintained a 3.5 GPA, joined a sorority even though she was uncertain, signed a modeling contract with a top agency in Miami, and has stayed an amazing daughter, big sister, and role model. She pushes past her struggles every day to work hard in class and the gym, staying healthy both physically and mentally. She is always there for friends, even when she’s having a bad day and makes sure to keep family a priority even though she lives out of town and has a busy schedule.
What we know about you? During high school I changed a lot, figuring out who I am and whom I want to surround myself with. It was hard though and was mentally taxing, Sports was a big help in helping me manage the ups and downs. It build my confidence so much that I became interested in going to college further away from home. However, once I moved away (not far only Orlando) things were still hard but then I joined a sorority and started modeling. Both to these things have really boosted my confidence and helped me really started loving college.
What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover? When I started high school, I decided to switch from over 12 years of dancing to be an athlete. I joined the basketball team and the track team. I wasn't very good at either but I worked hard and trained in the offseason and was able to not only play basketball all four years, both JV and Varsity, but I made the Varsity track team my sophomore year and advanced to become one of the top female sprinters by my senior year. I won a lot of races, won many metals, and several team awards.
If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why? I think I'm most passionate about sports and working hard to achieve your goals. I feel like working out, training, and being healthy is very important and playing sports helps you achieve this. Sports are also one of my favorite things to both participate in and watch. I think they're not only good for your physical health, but also for your mental health.
