Allie Plaugher – Ohio Nomination by Alison Parker Photography by Lauren Day Photography Issue 66 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Allie Plaugher is an inspirational figure because she is full of enduring passion. Ever since she was little girl, she has always adored music and participating in band. Her favorite instrument is the piano, and she often expresses her musical skills at her beloved church. After she graduates high school, she plans to major in music education to become a band director, with a minor in photography. It is my hope that her ambition will rub off on her future students like it constantly does to me!

Tell us more about your band career. My school doesn't offer band until 6th grade, so I started then, but my musical career started a long time before then! I was born into a very musical family! I started playing piano when I was 8, so I have been playing for about 10 years, and I started playing my clarinet in band when I was 11, so I have been playing clarinet for 7 years! I fell in love with music so much that I am going to college with a major in Music Education so I can be a band director!
What is your favorite genre of music to play? My favorite genre of music to play will forever be jazz/classical depending on what instrument I am playing. If I am playing my clarinet, jazz all the way!! If I am playing piano, classical is my favorite.
What is your go-to song when someone asks you to play? When someone requests me to play something on piano, my go-to is the prologue from Beauty and the Beast! I was very proud of learning this piece, I taught it to myself during quarantine. If someone asks me to play my clarinet, I usually improvise something, so it is never the same thing.
If you could play in any band anywhere, which one would it be and why? I ADORE movie music!! I have an entire playlist on spotify dedicated to my favorite soundtracks that is well over 30 hours long. So, if I could play in any band anywhere, I would probably say a band or orchestra somewhere that records soundtracks for movies! I would want to be part of such an important project!!!
What have you learned about yourself playing music? When I think about the lessons that I have learned while playing music, the one that sticks out to me the most is that I have learned resilience! The thing about music is you are going to fail. It takes time to get something perfect so working hard and learning to try again when you fail is essential when learning something new!
What has been a favorite accomplishment in music? My favorite accomplishment in music is probably playing at Disney World in marching band! That was something that we had to audition for and got to march in the parade in front of the castle in the Magic Kingdom!
Tell us about your church and what you love most about it? Oh my goodness!! I love my church so so much. I go to Covenant of Peace in my hometown. Everyone there is so welcoming, loving and kind. My church is very involved with world missions, which I love very much! They are so loving towards others and want to give to others instead of giving to themselves. I have seen God do some incredible things there and move in ways I have never seen before!! They truly live their lives to glorify God and work his purpose, not their own!! It truly is such a spirit filled church, and we love it there!

What is your favorite thing to do at church? My favorite thing to do there is probably to worship with my family and friends! Unity is very important in churches, and this church is very unified! We all worship together, and it is amazing to be able to worship with your friends and family. I truly have made some of the most impactful and amazing friends that will last a lifetime!
Why is God such a huge part of your life? God is such a huge part of my life for a lot of reasons, but the biggest reason is because of everything he has done. I have seen God work in a lot of ways, from performing miracles to giving people happiness and joy they haven't felt in a long time. He provided a way for people to have a eternal life in heaven with him, and to me that is so amazing. How can someone just pass that up?
What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover? I’m a STICKLER on positivity!! I always want to make sure that people can feel open to talking to me and always want to make sure that I am there for people when they need me! And, ALWAYS sharing God’s love!
How did you find and why did you choose Lauren Day Photography for your photographer? One of my friends had her do her senior pictures and I felt like they really captured her personality through the photos!! Her style of photography was exactly what I was looking for, and she was such an amazing and sweet person!! She is such a ray of sunshine! I am so glad that I picked her.
What was your experience like? What did you love most about it? My experience was amazing!! She had me laughing a lot during the shoot, and she was such a sweet person. I ADORED the spots that we picked for the shoots! They were so pretty!
What do you like taking pictures of most? I personally enjoy taking pictures of people! I love capturing life and emotion through a lens. It is truly amazing! A picture really is worth a thousand words!
Tell us the story behind a favorite image you've taken. We'd love to see it! My favorite photo that I have taken is probably a picture of one of my close friends Chloe! She is such an amazing person. The dress that you will see in the photo was actually a dress of mine that I gave to her for the shoot! We have been friends since we were little when her mom babysat my sister and I, and we have been friends ever since!
If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be? Bullying!!! I know it’s a topic that is already well discussed, but I feel like there are some things that are left unsaid, especially coming from someone who has been through it. I would definitely like to share the effects of it that not many people see!
What is the hardest thing you have ever accomplished, and how did you do it? It's not huge, but honestly stepping out of my comfort zone in sports! I played volleyball, and that was huge for me. I used to be a very shy kid who didn't like being in front of people at all, so playing in front of others was a big deal for me. I went from not being able to get the ball over the net to becoming a server. I went from being an incredibly shy kid to becoming team captain!!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be where you are today? I would probably say to work hard and stay positive. I have been through some pretty rough things in my life that I wouldn't want anyone to go through, but overall, they made me stronger and a better person. I would just say to keep your head up and let God take control!!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans? In 5 years I will be out of college, so that is exciting! Hopefully I will have been on a missions trip or two, and have my degree and be teaching! I am very excited!
What is your favorite activity or pastime that was not in your nomination? Graphic Design/ Working with youth and children!! I love doing graphic design, it is really fun to create new designs and share them. I also enjoy working with children and youth! They are amazing!!
3 Things on your bucket list - I would love to travel!! - Go on a missions trip - Go see a live orchestra!
Who do you find inspiring? I have a hard time picking just one person, so I have narrowed it down to three. My mom, one of my friends mom (I call her Mama Amy) and My pastors wife, Angel! They are all so incredibly strong women and they are such Godly, humble, and inspiring women! I hope that I can be as inspiring as they are to me someday!
What about you inspires others/why do you think you are inspiring? - I hope that people see my faith as something that is inspiring. I hope that people see the love of Jesus through me. and see how much strength he gives me!
Is there anything else you would like to tell us? I would just say THANK YOU for the opportunity to be in this magazine! I hope that I have made a difference in others’ lives!
