Nomination: AnneMarie Dorr Having an impact on the world in which we live begins with character, and character begins with core values. AnneMarie is kind, dependable and trustworthy, and she would like to make a difference. The drive and focus she has when it comes to her studies, her faith and community, is unwavering. She views the world as it should be, then proceeds to make it so. She has been an inspiration to many and will continue on this same path for many years to come.

​Which of your core values is most important to you and why?
I would say that my core value that is most important to me is being genuine. Not only do you get to be your true self when you’re genuine, but because of this other people feel like they can be their true selves around you. Being genuine is a great way to help other people feel like they can be themselves and encourage positive relationships.

Why is your education important to you?
I look at education as a way to better yourself, your mind, and your opportunities in life, which is why I think it’s so important. Learning gives a person the opportunity to expand their ideas and perspective, which equips them to come in contact with other people. When this contact with others is used for good, it allows people to help each other and provides us with a more connected and engaging life.

What subject is your favorite in your senior year and why?
So far this year, my favorite subject has been AP English. I think some of the reason why I like it is because I didn’t take an english during the school year last year, so I was excited to be able to learn about the subject face-to-face and catch up on what I’ve missed, but I think the other reason why I like it so much is because I see it as an opportunity for growth. Going into this year without taking an English class my previous year was intimidating for me, so it pushed me to work harder than I normally would. This paid off, and because I ended up enjoying the actual subject matter on top of the extra work put in, the work in the class felt rewarding. As well as this, my teacher this year for AP English was great and I really liked the way she taught the class.


What is the most interesting thing you've learned so far this year?
The most interesting thing I’ve learned this year has been something called the Domino Effect. This theory has been a thing for a long time and I’ve always kind of known about it, but I’ve never consciously believed that it happens until recently. Basically the Domino Effect describes how each of your individual actions, no matter how small they may seem at the time, can build into larger events or circumstances that shape your life, kind of like knocking over a domino then more dominos falling because of it. It’s so cool to think that something I do right now can drastically change the course of my life, and learning about the reality of this effect has caused me to be more intentional with my actions and think about how I can tip a domino in the ‘positive’ direction.

How did you find and why did you choose Angie Read Photography for your photographer?
I found Angie Read through Instagram. A couple of the girls I followed had her as their senior photographer last year, so one day I went to her account and looked at all of her photos (and absolutely loved them!). I went straight to her website after that and saw all of the activities and photo sessions she had planned for her senior reps, and immediately knew that it was something I wanted to do.

What was your first photo experience like with her?
My first photo experience with Angie Read was taking birthday and senior rep announcement shots at her house in front of a backdrop she had set up. When I first arrived, she was so welcoming and nice, and she had all the girls play icebreakers to meet each other, which helped ease us into taking photos. Overall, it was great and got me excited for the rest of the year.

What did you love most about being on her senior team?
I love Mrs. Angie’s kindness and the positive attitude she brings to every shoot. She’s such a light to not only her reps but everyone she works with, which makes the shoots enjoyable and less stressful. As well as this, the community that has been built through shared photo shoots, group hangouts, and senior rep volunteer projects has been so fun to be a part of. All of the girls are so nice and it’s been wonderful experiencing part of my senior year with them.

Tell us about your school and what you'll miss most about it.
I go to Klein Collins High School (Go Tigers) where I’ve been at for four years now. My school is a part of the Klein district and has been a great place to spend my time and grow throughout my last four years as not only a student but a person. I’ll probably miss the sense of community and the memories that have been made there the most. The communities that I’ve been able to be a part of because of Klein Collins have shaped me into the person I am today and have allowed me to grow with people I care for and look up to. Being in such close proximity to these communities has made bonds that will hopefully last for years to come. As well as this, I’ve made so many fond memories with my friends and classmates that I will cherish forever.

Where do you fit in and where do you stand out?
I’ve found that I typically fit in with people who have the same values that I do, or that carry the same interests as me. I would say I stand out in the leadership positions I hold in a few of my extracurricular activities, which is mostly because of their leadership demands.

What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover?
Some things about me that aren’t included in my nomination are my academic achievements, like graduating as an honors student and my perseverance through hard classes, my involvement in extracurricular activities such as my school’s yearbook as a staffer and editor, student council as a member and officer, and National Honors Society, and my involvement in my church as a camp counselor. As well as this, I’m a member of an organization that allows high school girls to volunteer with their moms outside of school called Legacy League, which I’ve been a part of all throughout high school!

What is your favorite memory from being on the yearbook team?
I would say my favorite memories from my years on Yearbook would be our distribution days. Every year we create a theme for the day when we hand out the completed yearbooks, which has been the best possible way to celebrate finishing the book as well as get it to the people who have bought it. The costumes and decorations make an otherwise small event for someone who’s picking up their yearbook more special, and give someone who’s celebrating the completion of the yearbook a chance to recognize their hard work.

What is your favorite accomplishment as a student council member and officer?
I’d say my favorite accomplishment as a Student Council officer would be making the football and winter dress up days. My position in Student Council this year is to spread school spirit by making dress up days, and successfully completing the dress up days that occurred about every week then every day for about a month felt like a huge accomplishment.

What was your favorite service project on the student council?
My favorite service project for Student Council was making veterans thank you cards. Getting to recognize people that, unless you were related, would be hard to seek out or find a way to thank personally, was nice to do.

Tell us about your time as a camp counselor.
I was a camp counselor last summer at both my church and a summer camp organization! Being a counselor was an amazing experience, and I learned a lot about helping others and being a positive influence to others from the people I was surrounded by. Not only does counseling at a summer camp positively impact the campers, but you also grow as a person!

What has been your favorite part of being a member of Legacy League?
My favorite part about Legacy League has been serving alongside like-minded and kind people who want to make an impact on others. As well as this, getting to volunteer with my mom has given us the chance to grow our relationship.

If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be?
I would talk about how people's worldviews are strongly influenced by the type of books that they read as a child. I think it's so interesting that a perspective can be so shaped and expanded by literature, and that everyone who has gotten the opportunity to read as a child is affected by the books that they read.
