Bella Matos – California Nomination by Rosemary Matos Photography by Alicia Crosson Photography Issue 66 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Bella Matos is one of the most dedicated and hard-working teens I know. She puts 110% into everything that she does. She excels in leadership positions and has held various offices past and present. Currently she is the freshman class president, and is in FFA leadership all while holding an A+ average GPA. She’s extremely dedicated to FFA participating in speaking competitions as well as raising her pig for fair. She is also a six year cheerleader and participates in a cultural dance group!
What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover? Being so involved in many different aspects of life over the years has taught me many lessons and made me grow into someone who anyone can count on no matter what. This is a big part of being a leader because a leader should be someone you can count on, and in any aspect of life, whether it be FFA, cheerleading, school, I’m always willing to lend a helping hand or share advice!
What else would you like to talk about? In the past few years I’ve really taken up an interest in health and fitness. Sometimes social media can really demonize what “health and fitness” means and looks like, so over the years I’ve tried to learn how to live a happy and healthy life through balance. Balance is so important in life, not only in the food you eat or the way you move, but in everything. Take being a student for example: it’s super important to take your education seriously, but it’s just as important to have fun and live life to the fullest!
If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be and why? I’d present what it means to embrace and share your culture. Not everyone embraces their culture, and some people don’t even know or appreciate where they come from! Growing up in a Portuguese family, constantly surrounded by Portuguese friends and family, I’ve learned that no one will even know the beauty of my culture unless I share it. Whenever I get the chance, I like to tell people about the special things that make my beautiful Portuguese culture so special because I know what it means to value where I come from.
