Dasha Derkach - Arizona Interview by Olivia Bush Nomination by Natalie Derkach Photography by Dasha Derkach Issue 34 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
The Nomination: Dasha Derkach is an aspiring ballerina, but she wasn’t born any of the natural ballet body type things! (flexibility, feet, strength, etc.) Dasha has a passion for ballet and she started working hard and figured out some ways to improve everything she doesn’t have! After figuring out ways to improve these things, she realizes how there are some kids out there which want to learn ballet, but unfortunately can’t afford it! She now has a YouTube channel where she makes videos for everyone where she teaches the basics of ballet, ballet classes, and all of her tips and tricks which she uses to improve the things that Dasha didn’t naturally have!
How old were you when you started ballet and why do you love it so much? I started ballet at the age of 5 and I have been dancing now for 8 years! My favorite thing about ballet is performing on stage. I love to perform in front of audiences and entertain them with the beauty of ballet!
You were not born with natural ballet dancer abilities. How did you push through this? No, I wasn’t born with any natural ballet/dancer talent and I did 2 simple steps to push through this major obstacle. First I found different exercises and stretches which focus on the muscle or joints that I needed to improve! Second is consistency, I continued to do these exercises and stretches over a long period of time!
How did you get the idea to start a YouTube channel for kids who cannot afford ballet lessons? The idea to start my YouTube channel mainly came from my dad. He asked me how easy it was to create a channel and then gave me the idea for it! I knew that his idea for creating lessons for aspiring dancers who can’t afford to take regular classes was going to help and impact a lot of kids and adults!
What advice would you give kids who are struggling with dance and ballet? Keep on trying, working hard, failing, and then getting back up and try it again! Over time all your hard work will show up, I promise! Keep on striving for your goals! If you continue to work hard then you will accomplish them!
Is ballet something that you would like to continue as you get older and maybe have a career out of? What is the end goal? My end goal is to be able to get into a professional ballet company, and dance and perform in front of bigger audiences, while still impacting kids and adult lives with my lessons on my YouTube channel!
How do you keep yourself organized with everything you have on your plate? I keep myself organized by planning out my days by the hours! In the morning I spend 15 minutes writing out my whole plan for the day and the exact time it needs to be done.
Dasha will be featured in issue 34 of Inspiring Teens Magazine!
