Delaney Baniukiewicz - Massachusetts Nomination by Erin Baniukiewicz Photography by Olesja Mueller Issue 58 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Delaney Baniukiewicz is so inspiring because every day she strives to be better in everything she does. She excels in school but always looks for ways to improve. Her biggest passion by far is dance. She has been dancing for 10 years, competing for 6. Her mantra is always progress over perfection. Delaney also decided to get back into Modeling this past January and has signed with MMG and has already had several amazing opportunities. Delaney credits her drive and passion to having an incredibly supportive network of family and friends.
Tell us about your passion for dance. I love everything about dance! At 3 years old it became my first passion! What I love he most about dance is the family atmosphere it has. At my studio, Rhythm Dance Company, we are all there for each other. We push each other to be the best we can be. It’s what I look forward to all day.
Which types of dances do you study, and which is your favorite? Why? At Rhythm Dance Company I do Ballet, Tap, Lyrical Contemporary, Hip Hop, Musical Theater and Production. I love everything, truly! If I had to pick it would be Contemporary because I love the fluidity of the movement as opposed to focusing on technique.
What has been your favorite competition? Why? Showstopper’s is my favorite Competition. They always go above and beyond making every experience at the competitions positive and filled with great energy. I love that they always say at awards, “Listen, this is subjective, based on the judges we have today. Feel good about what you’ve accomplished no matter what score you get.”
If you could perform on any dance show, which would it be, what would you wear, what style of dance would you do, what song would you dance to, and anything else you can tell us about this. I would love to be on Dancing with The Stars because there is always so much talent and positive energy among all the dancers. For a costume I would love a beautiful black and gray Leotard with stone detailing around the rims, subtle but sophisticated. I would chose a Contemporary style. It’s always so difficult to pick out a song but it would have to be powerful and filled with emotion. It would be a performance that would leave all who watched it speechless.(In a good way)
What have you learned about yourself through all these years of dance? My parents have always stressed the importance of school and academics. They basically told me if I was not doing well in school I would have to start cutting back on dance. This made me very quickly learn about prioritizing. I know, for me, the only way I can be successful in school and dance is to be organized. I’ve also learned to cut myself some slack. I can be really hard on myself, and I realize that does not help me in any way.
How did you decide to pursue modeling? What experiences have you had? My Mom got me involved when I was 6 years old. I was represented by Dynasty Modeling Agency in Boston. I have done lots of print work and a few online commercials. I also attended events that helped me, and my mom learn about the industry like East Coast Starz, which I still remember having so much fun at.
What is the hardest part of modeling? For me the hardest thing is acting out the look the photographer is going for. Luckily, I’m getting better at it, but I always feel like that it’s a challenge.
What tips would you give others trying to get into modeling? Go after it and Don’t give up! Make sure you do your research and surround yourself with the best people.
What do you love most about modeling? All the fun experiences I’ve had. I’ve met so many amazing people! My family and I adore our photographer, Olesja Mueller! She is like family now!
How did you find and why did you choose Olesja Mueller for your photographer? When I was 6 my mom and I went to a weekend long East Coast Starz event. There were several photographers there doing Mini Sessions. Olesja was one of them. Unfortunately, she was booked solid. My Mom got all her information in hopes to work with her in the near future. Well, it took another 6 years as I was 12 at our shoot but the Stars finally aligned to allow that to happen.
What was your experience like? What did you love most about it? Amazing! I loved everything about it! Olesja is so incredibly talented! She made me feel so comfortable and special! The outfits she put together for me were stunning! After the photoshoot we had plans to go to a NYFW after party. The best part was Olesja let me wear one of the gorgeous outfits she styled me in to the party - which she has never done. The entire weekend felt like “meant to be” moments.
