Lauren Pye – Georgia Nomination & Photography by Ride the Sky Equine Photography Issue 63 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Lauren Pye is a high school senior, who enjoys horseback, riding, musical theater, dance, and marching band. Shortly before her junior year began, Lauren was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). This condition made it difficult to do the activities she loves and took a toll on her mental health. However, Lauren has persevered and continues to show how having a disability doesn’t need to define who you are. Lauren was recently cast as the lead in her school spring musical. In the fall of 2023, Lauren will be attending SCAD to study film acting.
What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover? In addition to Lauren’s physical disability, she also struggles with mental illness such as anxiety and depression. This made it difficult for her to attend school and remain active. However, Lauren joined a mental health group that helped her learn coping strategies that helped pull her out of the worst of her depression and allow her to continue doing the things she loves.
What else would you like to talk about? I could elaborate on struggles with social anxiety, loneliness, marching band, horse riding, musical theater.
If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be? I’m fascinated by the ocean and nature and could go on sharing cool facts about it forever.
