Makayla Guilbeau – Florida Nomination by Sara Denmon Photography by Crowned Collective Studios Issue 63 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Makayla Guilbeau is a dedicated and self-motivated individual. She is “Miss Gulf Breeze Florida,” and was selected to compete in the Teen Miss Florida USA pageant in May 2023. She serves on the teen board of directors for Magdalene’s, LLC, a nonprofit corporation established for the purpose of helping women survivors of trafficking, prostitution, abuse and addiction. Makayla has volunteered hundreds of hours to the Gulf Breeze Sports Association training children in cheerleading and lacrosse. She serves as varsity cheer captain. Makayla has earned the status of top 10% of her class while maintaining a rigorous course load of subjects.
What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover? My nomination does not cover how much time is spent doing each thing I do. I spend countless hours each week at cheer practices and games, studying, and volunteering while providing leadership. Balancing all these things is not easy, but it is worth it in the end. Currently, I am balancing these things while maintaining a 4.7 gpa, going to various volunteer events, and working with Magdalene's, LLC.
What else would you like to talk about? In my interview, I would love to talk about the volunteer work I do. I love cheerleading and have spent hundreds of hours with young cheerleaders by coaching them. I love seeing the girls have the same love for cheerleading that I do. I have grown up cheering in the same organization so it's neat to come full circle. I also volunteer my time with a nonprofit that supports women who have experienced sexual abuse and helps them to get back on their feet.
If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be? If I were to present a topic it would be sexual abuse and trafficking awareness. I want people to understand the severity of the issue and to create awareness of the issue. Sexual abuse and trafficking are real issues that happen in our own communities, more than a lot of people realize, and spreading awareness is extremely important.
