Samantha Williams – Tennessee Nomination & Photography by Cindy B Thymius Photography Issue 66 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Samantha Williams is currently a junior at Collierville High School. She enjoys hanging out with friends and spending time with her family and pets. At school, she is in the National Honor Society and Beta Club. Samantha is enrolled in honors and dual classes. She enjoys volunteering at her church whenever she can, which includes pit orchestra, living nativity, and youth group. Samantha also enjoys playing music. During fall, she is involved in marching band, and in the winter/spring, she is involved in concert band and indoor percussion.
What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover? I have been a part of the leadership team as percussion captain in my school’s band program. This has provided me with the amazing opportunity to not only lead, but inspire younger members of this program.
What else would you like to talk about? As a young child, I wore an eye patch to strengthen my eye from a congenital cataract. Through the years, I had to overcome looking different, bullying, and vision problems in general. I’ve come a long way from where I was and am grateful for the change of perspective.
If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be? I have a personal connection to those who have been bullied for looking different. Since I grew up with an eye patch, no one else looked like me. I am able to empathize with those who have gone through or are going through the same experiences as me.
