Samantha Zank – Pennsylvania Nomination by Mark Corey Photography by Candi Benek Photography Issue 65 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination Samantha Zank is a leader, model student athlete, and a hard working teen. Samantha is absolutely amazing in every way. Not surprisingly, Samantha has such a warm heart and compassion for her friends and teammates. I often refer to Samantha as an angel walking on this earth. Last summer one of my girls tragically lost her mother after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. My only senior, Samantha, decided to organize a purple out home basketball game and selected the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation as the beneficiary. Samantha accepted donations for purple noses which she distributed to friends and fans at the game. In total this benefit event generated $8,086. Samantha brings such a competitive spirit and leads by example attitude to the team each day and makes all of us better by demanding our best efforts. Samantha is a blessing to be around and touches the hearts of all those she encounters, including mine.

What do you love about being in a leadership position? I love having a standard that I have to live up too. It reminds me to hold myself accountable each and every day. It means so much to see my younger teammates following in my example and reflecting in my actions. This helps me strive to be the best version of myself and I hope that I can impact their lives in a positive way by my actions.
What sports do you play and which is your favorite? I play basketball, volleyball and run track. My favorite sport is basketball. I have been playing this since I was a young girl and have a love for the sport that will never die. Stepping on the court puts me into a different world and all my problems go away. It is my happy place all the time that is so physically and mentally rewarding. I love being a part of a team sport and being surrounded by so many loving people. My basketball teammates have become my family and I am forever thankful for them.
What is a favorite memory with your teammates? My favorite memories with my teammates range from singing and dancing before all of our games, team sleepovers or just joking around every day at practice. They are so fun to be around all the time and I am forever thankful for them! Everyday there is a new funny surprise that makes me laugh until my stomach hurts. Leaving my second family will make me cherish these memories forever.
What is a favorite accomplishment in sports? My favorite accomplishment in sports is hosting our pancreatic cancer awareness game. It raised so much more money than I expected and brought all the community together. It was an amazing feeling to be a part of something larger than basketball and seeing the smiles on the faces of the lives I affected. That was such a truly rewarding experience that I am very thankful for.
What will you miss most about your senior year? There are so many things that I will miss, but the main thing is the people. The people I am surrounded with everyday make all the experiences worth it. I have so many memories that I will carry with me through life. Also friendships that I hope to never lose.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years/what are your plans? In five years I hope to be a travel registered nurse and graduating with my masters in nursing. I hope my occupation takes me all around the world and lets me visit many places. I am very excited to meet new people and open up my horizons!
Who do you find inspiring? The person that I am inspired by the most is my father. He is my best friend and my number one supporter in my life. He single handedly raised my brother and I while owning his own business and making it to all of my athletic games. I hope one day I can be as close with my children as we are. He taught me the most amazing life lessons I will share with my family, and that a smile is the best thing a person can wear!
