Sidney Mercer – Kentucky Nomination by Audrey Mercer Photography by Scarlet Moon Photography Issue 49 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Sidney Mercer is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. When she was 3 1/2 she became a big sister. Not just a normal sister, but one to her special needs brother Noah. Because of Dr. appointments, hospital visits, therapy sessions, etc. she had to become very adaptable to any circumstances that came our way. Through those 14 years she has excelled in sports, multiple clubs, youth group, and working part time. She has inspired me by doing these things with love and dignity even though our situations weren’t always ideal.
What should we definitely know about you? I believe that I am a very independent and strong girl. I strive to have a good work ethic and I strive to be the best version of myself possible. Having a special needs brother has also taught me so much over the past 14 years and I believe he has taught me more than I’ve taught him. He is a very happy person and loves everyone just as Jesus did and I long to be as good as he is one day. He inspires me more than he will ever know.
What inspiring things about you does your nomination not cover? I am pretty exceptional in school. I strive to do the best I can and to make good grades and I study hard. I have played tennis for what is about to be my 6th year and it is my passion. I can always rely on the tennis court to take away all my worries.
If you were to present a topic to a group of your peers, what would it be on and why? I could definitely talk a lot about the effects that social media has on young women and even young men and well. We are given this unrealistic standard of what our appearance should be or what our life should look like, and it really leads to the downfall of a lot of peoples mental health.
