Tabitha Johnson – Georgia Nomination and Photography by Robin Chance Issue 46 of Inspiring Teens Magazine
Nomination: Tabitha Johnson has worked really hard and will obtain her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse from our local college in a couple of months. She chose the health industry because she loves to help others and has a passion to learn. When she is not attending school and working, she loves to draw, run, write, bake and do research as well as spending time with family and friends. She plans to work for a short season at a local hospital and continue her education to become a registered nurse and specialize in cardiology. Tabitha is very positive and is eager to make her mark in this world and after working with her, I know that she will attain her dreams and impact those around her.

Tell us more about your nursing career. Why did you choose that path and what is your biggest goal? I chose nursing so I could get answers. My mom has fibromyalgia and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). More so when I was younger, she would go into what are called Fibro-flares. I didn’t know at the time that GAD caused her Fibro-flares, so I clustered her symptoms to research what disease could be the culprit. My search resulted in many different possible answers but no solution. I wanted to find a reason behind the pain and distress she was in. By becoming a nurse, I believed that I could help others find a reason and solution for their pain.
What have you done so far to help you in your nursing career? Recently I have applied and gotten a job as a nurse extern in a hospital. This job has allowed me to assist and work alongside other nurses. So far, it’s been an amazing experience. Extremely tiring, but truly amazing. It has allowed me to gain even more experience than I have in a clinical setting. I have rubbed shoulders with some of the best nurses, I believe, in the world. I hope to one day be as knowledgeable and perceptive as they are in my nursing career
Tell us more about your drawings. What do you love to draw the most and with what type of medium? We would love to see a picture! I love drawing cartoon characters. I love the exaggerated features and the relatable expressions they possess. My siblings and I have had little to no art lessons. We pretty much learned from each other’s mistakes to form our own unique drawing styles. My go-to drawing medium is a mechanical pencil and a thin-tipped Sharpie. I usually use sketchbooks to house my artwork, but there’s nothing wrong with notebook or printer paper every once in a while. I just enjoy expressing myself through drawing. It helps me decompress and regroup.
Share with us your running experience. Do you run for fun or do you have higher and higher goals? For example, have you ever run a 5K or more? I actually used to run track and cross country in high school. Because there were so many races, I didn’t enjoy track that much. With cross-country, you only have one race to get ready for; one race to give your all. I enjoyed cross country not only because of the one race but also because of the long bus rides and the new people I met. During the summer, I ran 5ks with my older sister and my dad. It was a good way to stay in shape for the next season and a good time to hang with my dad.

What do you like to write about and what has been your favorite plot? I enjoy writing about different life experiences in my blog, journaling to express the things on my mind, and writing short stories. Writing short stories is so much fun. Forming the different characters and brainstorming the different plots is quite invigorating. Only one of my books is typed, waiting to be proofread. The other needs lots of proofreading, plot changing, and overall help. When I write, I want it to mean something; I want to inspire people to think. I believe many can write books, but only a few can make you think about the topic at hand.
